Oddly, the best thing I've taken away from this thread is the visual of a speckled dog *kitten* blowing kisses with each bark...

I play hockey on a women's recreational team and one of the women brings her son to the games with her (I assume she can't get a sitter) and during the first week she had her son in the changeroom with us while we were getting ready to play. I didn't actually notice him until one of the other women made a comment to me.

I found out that her son is 7 years old! I had to pull her aside and let her know that he can't be in the changeroom with us before or after games - personally I strip down to nothing to change my bra/underwear. I could understand if it was a little girl under the age of 4 or so, but by the time a child is 7 years old, I think he realizes what he's seeing.

Think of the irony of the fact that due to Google rules for accepting ad revenue you can`t even post a clothed picture of a butt here on MFP as it is considered sexual in nature.

His name was Pierre, a white Bichon Frise/Schnauzer mix.

Here's a pic of a similar dog, so that you can get a better mental image:

RIP, speckle-assed Pierre. You continue to bring joy to the world, even though you were kind of an ornery douche.

Yeah, people don't need others' kids seeing them strip down.

my girls are 4 and 5, and for the first few years of their lives there were no "clothes on" rules in the house (unless we had company of course). the kids used to shower with us, it was sooo much easier. we stopped that when my oldest was drawing a picture of the family, and she drew a penis on daddy (i think she was 3?) - its really kind of cute, but only showers with mommy from then on :)
when my inlaws moved in with us we started making the kids have clothes on around the house because the inlaws were uncomfortable with naked kids i guess...
hubby still walks around in his boxer briefs from time to time..but they see me naked when im bathing/showering, etc and come in to talk or ask a question. i dont think its anything to be ashamed of - they know the difference between girls and boys and that there are private parts and all that. i dont see the big deal of it. its not like we're sitting around watching porn together - we're just not hiding our bodies.

I was in the mens room at the Orlando airport in November and as I was washing my hands a guy came in with his 5 or 6 year old daughter.
I can understand the dilemma if traveling alone with her but did kind of make me do a double take.

First of all, his safety comes before what people may or may not feel is taboo. If i had a little one, i'd rather he end up seeing me in the middle of dressing or something than him not be able to get to me if he has some other emergency.

I'd think at his age he still isn't really aware of "nudity" per se anyway

and if you think it's an issue, as he gets older simply teach him to knock - i remember my mom would leave the doors unlocked, but my brother and i would knock or yell "MOMMY!!!" through the door.

I reckon you cause more body image issues by trying to hide from your kids - I am not saying bound around starkers regardless of the age of your kids, but *IF* they walk in on your in the bathroom or getting changed, its not a big deal really.

I am shyer now - mainly because of scarring and some loose skin, but at the end of the day its just me :)... goodness knows I used to be totally happy showering in communal showers and I am still not exactly too worried about being seen, just more self conscious!

I am LMAO at the dog image...... thats just beautiful hahaha

Well, I think there is nothing wrong with the human body and it's pretty sad when people equate nudity to sex. When I see a woman breast feeding I don't automatically think "Hmmm, can't you put that away since it's a sexual part of your body!"...no she's feeding her child! I do think it is okay for kids to know that adults are just larger versions of themselves. In our home nudity isn't something that is taboo, it's discussed sensibly and not laughed or mocked. My children know that I don't have parts like them or their father...big deal! I don't prance around nude but if they step into the bathroom I don't scream at them to get out.

As a true daddys girl daughter of a motorsport fanatic, I used to go to races a lot with my dad, and I assure you that little girl will not remember! To this day I don't recall what the inside of a men's loo looks like and its not like I had my eyes covered. It was either that, or if my dad could spot a nice looking lady taking her own girls to the loo and ask if she'd watch out for me :') not that anyone would probably do that these days! Although I'm sure my dad was very relieved when I got to the age I could be trusted to just go in the ladies!! Xx

I've never hidden my nudity from my kids. I sleep naked, shower naked, was born naked. Neither of my kids are shy about my body or their own. My ex shares the same principle on this.

I saw my father naked once. I was it was traumatic for me. I was about 7.

    Just sayin'

My mother was very open. Still is. But lets say as a child I didnt learn to shut the door when I went to the restroom because I was so used to my mother keeping it open so she could chit chat and what not while using the restroom.

That is not something I've passed on to my children.

I'm pretty open with my son. I'm pretty liberal about things with him but I've started to shut the door only because he's made comments about how my chest looks like his now:grumble:
Effing brat. It's like hey kid, I lost weight!
