I live on it and couldn't live without it. I love the food from it most too! Atlantic Canadian lobster, clams, mussels....whew! Almost talked myself into a food fix just there!

Wow, it's hard to believe that there are people who have never seen the ocean - but of course I know that lots of people live far inland and just don't have the resources to get there. I grew up a few hours drive away from the ocean and going to the beach was always a holiday treat. The best place I've ever lived was a little townhouse just 1 house away from the beach - coming home from work and putting on bathers and a sarong (no shoes!) and runnings straight to the ocean was wonderful (except for midsummer when the gulf was still and the seaweed banked up until the water closest to the beach looked like murky tea - that was a bummer!)

What amazes me is not people who haven't seen the ocean (or the snow, or been outside their state or their country) but the people who just have no interest in those things. To me, the world is an exciting place with such incredible diversity and I've been really priveleged to have visited a lot of different countries in 4 continents. I don't think there will ever be a time when I'm not interested in learning more about the world and wishing to see something and/or somewhere different.

I live a block from the atlantic, but I'm never seen the pacific.
  • The first time I saw the ocean was in 1974, when I traveled to Panama City. I was in awe at all the water and the beauty of the water and sand along the edges.

Lots of different ones, been to BC, UK, Greece etc nothing better than lots of salty water.
We've got two huge *kitten* lakes in our province (Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg) but floating effortless in the sea especially the super blue Mediterranean is something out of a dream. My hubby and I are looking at get our open water certs this year, and doing some more scubaing!
  • I grew up 4 hours from the Gulf of Mexico and now live 3 hours from the Atlantic. I have had the blessing of being able to "frolick" on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world down in the Turks and Caicos Islands a few times being that my fiance is from the caribbean (if anyone gets a chance to go to TCI, I highly recommend it!!!) I would live right on the beach if I could!! And moving to the caribbean at some point is definitely not out of question! =)

I live in Florida, minutes from the beach, and can honestly say I've only been to the ocean about 2-3 times. Maybe I'll go more often sooner or later, I don't know.

  • Does this answer your question? ;-) (Shot taken in December 2011 in Palau)

I grew up by the Atlantic and now live by the Pacific. In fact, during my nightly exercise yesterday I watched the stars set into Pacific--it never ceases to amaze me.

Grew up in SC, lived 45 minutes from Myrtle Beach. Then as an adult I lived 30 minutes away. Spent nearly every summer at the beach. I have been in Texas for 10 years now, and the Gulf is great and all, it just doesn't compare to the beauty of miles and miles of nothing but sand, surf, and horizon! Guess living on the East Coast for 2/3 of my life spoiled me. The ocean is what I miss the most about SC.
  • it's about 20 minutes from my house...atlantic ocean

First saw the ocean at the age of 49. I've always had a fear of open water but living on Guam for over a year got me over it. Learned how to go snorkeling. Loved it, I miss that place. I'd sit on my balcony for hours just watching the ocean (Philippine Sea).

I grew up on the west coast of Scotland and the furthest I've lived inland was when I lived in Maastricht, in the very south of the Netherlands.

I now live 6miles from the North Sea coast.
  • I live about 10 minutes from Baltic sea if that counts. :D And I've seen Mediterranean sea too!

I used to live in a coastal town in California. I have seen the Pacific from the coast of California and Hawaii and the Atlantic at Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Several, as a matter of fact! 8]
  • I've seen the Atlantic, Pacific, Carribean, & the Sea of Cortez... maybe someday I'll get to the Mediterrainian or the Adriatic.
I have been in the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and all of the Great Lakes.

    Great Lakes are oceans??

No, but the sunset on Lake Michigan looks like an ocean, it so large you cannot see the other coast! Its truely lovely.

I am in awe of the Great Lakes everytime I fly over one... I don't understand why they are not considered seas

because seas are saltwater. the great lakes are fresh water.

LOL. Great answer. Made me laugh.
