Well I'm not ever taking my kid outside ever again...the potential to come across a rude person is just too much.

There is the potential for them to see that kind of treatment in any public place, but the odds are higher in a place that many people go to just to objectify women.

If you want your kid to learn to think of women as objects, sure. o.O

The women chose to work there and seem to be coping with their job, I think most of them are just having fun ;)

There's nothing wrong with working there or going there, but with society the way it is I think taking kids there might be sending the wrong message. *Shrug*
I'd pretty much delay taking them there until they're old enough to have explained to them that while the women there are free in their self-expression and showing their bodies, they aren't sex objects and should still be treated with respect.

I think if they're too young to have that explained to them then they're probably too young to give a **** about how the women are dressed. Not many 4 year olds who dont think that "girls are yucky".

Kids are smart, they can learn a lot from the people around them and the way they treat women. So if there are people there who are being disrespectful of the women that can be problematic and the kid might learn those behaviors. I'm not saying it's a horrible thing to take kids there, just that one needs to be mindful of the potential things they might be exposed to.

Actually, children are highly sensitive to social influence at this age. Values are learnt very early on.

I don't think there's anything wrong with kids seeing women scantily-clad, per se, but the fact that the business is actually centered on the objectification of women is concerning and I wouldn't want my children seeing that. I mean, I wouldn't want my daughter to learn so bluntly, and at an early age, that her body is a commodity. Society already does a bad enough of a job forcing girls to feel that way, as it is.

    This.

When I go, it's with adults and we have a good time on a Sunday afternoon at the "Church of the Orange Buttocks". My 85 year old grandmother loves it - chicken wings and beer.... but I have not and would not take my 13 year old daughter.

For starters, Hooters is a family restaurant. I've seen families with children there. I went there with my brother and nephew once. Being that I work in a school, parents let their daughters dress worse to go to school than the waitresses.

oh come on people....Hooters isnt a place for children and we all know it. There is nothing wrong with Hooters for adults but it aint for kids. I dont go there anymore, mainly because the food isnt really something I desire anymore....if I want to get high calorie chicken, I go to Popeye's and get the spicy fried...yum...but there isnt much sense in exposing children to that atmosphere. Sure, the kids will see stuff at the beach and all that argument, but why force the issue around drinking and push up bras.

Lol! People disrespecting waitresses? You don't need to go to hooters for that, I guess I should never take my kids to a restaurant.

I was at a Hooters in the middle of hickville, nowhere the other day. Two of the waitresses were very pregnant.

I took a pregnant woman to eat at Hooters! Their pickle chips are amazing . . . .

In any event, both times I went, it was mostly middle-aged women eating there.

    1. Most of their customer base, so far as I can tell, it middle-aged women.
    2. Hooters actually makes a point of providing assistance for their waitresses to be able to afford college.

Depends on the age of the children. My nephews loved it when they were 13.

Didn't read the whole thread but Hooters is harmless as far as dress goes. It is a family restaurant with crappy food where the women wear big orange shorts over leggings and a t-shirt with a high neck lol. You will see more skin at any female sporting event.

I wouldn't be caught dead there.

Exactly. I won't give my money to a place that puts women on display.

I dated two Hooters girls, one became a doctor and the other needs to see a doctor. There is nothing wrong with Hooters, great wings. I would be more worried about the crap on tv.

I would be willing to guess that the majority of people that are offended by Hooters have never been in one and talked to the waitresses to really find out about it. They just see the orange shorts and tank top and immediately believe that Hooters is a bad place and objectifying women. Most of the Hooters Girls are there because they are going to school, and need money...how awful.

Are there men that go into Hooters that don't have respect for women...yes, but that isn't the result of Hooters, they're just idiots. Those are the same men that would go into Olive Garden and not have respect for the waitress. It isn't about the location, it is about the individual.

There is more objectifying of women on tv and in magazines...using them to sell everything from toothpaste to website domains. The problem isn't Hooters.

Hooters is fine for kids...not every day (mostly because there are probably more healthy things you can feed kids), but to go in occasionally isn't going to go in and turn them into anything that they would not have become as a result of parenting anyway. The waitresses make a big fuss about the kids and make them feel special. They have coloring, balloons and hula hoops to play with. It is fine for an occasional night out.

One of my best friends from high school is a Hooters girl, and she's doing a Ph.D. in electrical engineering.

Love it. The US makes such a huge deal about nudity and sexuality, to the point of making it dirty and nasty. We were all born naked, afterall. Granted I would not want someone pushing porn at me, or would not want to witness people having sex in a public place, but the naked body and sex are both natural.
