I'd rather be complimented on the type of person I am than how I look in panties. Seems a little more meaningful.

I'm thinking that doesn't happen too much...

OP, will you please take a pic of yourself in the mirror using a cell phone? It would make this thread so much more entertaining.

That's me in a jiu jitsu gi. It kinda looks like a "bathrobe." That's the best I can do when it comes to "bathroom pics."

OP....I want to thank you...you've been responsible for improving the scenery here. Many of my guy friends work very hard for their bodies and choose to show their progress in pics.

I stay taking bathroom pics. Until I read this post, I thought I was being pretty hardcore.

Speaking of pineapple...how about the ol Pineapple upside down cake. Awesomeness right there!

Not a fan. Pineapple in a dessert is unnatural.

clearly you have never had pineapple in marshmallow fluff...
by all means engage MAN engage!!!

pineapple cut it up.. marshmallow fluff , pour it in a bowl... nuke it for like a few seconds and dip .. dip .. we dip I dip you dip..

    its amazing. nommmmmnommy.

You must divulge this creation. Where does one attain this??

For me, losing pounds is important because I don't want to weigh what I do and be all muscle. Being a 5'2" woman that look just wouldn't be me. But, even though losing pounds is important, my motivation is to feel good about myself . . . having the energy to play with my kids and so I don't continue, or teach my kids about, being a couch potato. To be able to explore the world - be it hiking, traveling etc. - with my husband when my kiddos grow up. Not feeling shame when I'm naked in front of my husband. Yes, he loves me for me and I know that I'm the one that has the issue but I don't want to settle with feeling uncomfortable all the time. Losing pounds will help me get there but if I'm comfortable at a different weight then my goal weight, then great!

    Is this a "guy thing?"

Possibly but I think it's a context specific thing in reality.

The biggest selling point of this forum is the usability of the calorie counter. The cc and tracking functions are probably the reason most people initially found this site or gravitated towards it. Therefore it's not exactly rocket science to conclude that the primary concern of the greatest number of users would be weight loss / fat loss and that will be what most of the discussion centres around. In addition one clear marker of success is how you look naked if that is the case so obviously posters will put up pictures where they are not wearing much. It stands to reason.

If this were a forum dedicated to specific sports then you would get more users interested in more athletic goals with little talk of weight loss other on how it impacts on training goals.

Shirtless pics don't really bother me, I just usually pass them off as people who are fishing for compliments.
Obviously they worked hard to get where they are, I just don't understand what the need is to show the progress they made to people they don't know. I don't see the benefit. In essence, I'm calling BS on the whole "I'm showing my progress" line. Just say you want the compliment, it's fine and acceptable to want to hear good things being said about you, it doesn't make you a bad person, just don't hide behind the bs reasoning.

Ok...like I said before, I have decided that I want to tone my body instead of nearly stomp the crap out of my scales every other week. Anybody have and good advice, low fat recipes, exercise routines, I would love to hear it!

How do you "tone" your body? Tanning bed? Self tanner? I'm interested. Tell me more.

It doesn't. I do it because I'm proud of what I've accomplished. Rarely do I actually use it as my main photo because of threads like this and people like yourself who, ON A FITNESS WEBSITE, think no one should show off what they've worked for.

One of the things I hate most about MFP is all the people who try to make you feel bad for reaching your goal. It's ridiculous.

And the only reason I'd ask the OP what his goal is is because he was so ready to trash mine. I sure hope he's got a good one...

So, you got healthier, lost weight, got ripped, improved your self-esteem... for others to see? Hmm.

This was you. Assuming you knew something about me from my pic. Assuming you had a much better reason to want to get in shape, that's the entire point of your post after all.

So I'd love to know what your goal is that you think is so much superior to everyone else's.

Thank you for that post.. That is soo true. Its society and MEN who put the pressure on women to be thin, glamorous, look like movie stars or porn stars while we love them unconditionally. I think all women want to be fit healthy and leaner and thats why everyone is here..

I never said people shouldn't show it off, I just said be real about the motive is all. If you understood my post, I said there was nothing wrong with posting a pic such as yours, just don't say it's because you want to show your progress as the only reason.

People like to get complimented, and there is nothing wrong with that, as I already said.

All the OP did was poke a bit of fun at people and now people like yourself are all butt hurt. This actually proves my point of the reasoning behind the pics-confirmation. Because someone had something negative to say instead of posting a  behind some innuendo or "you look hot" at the end of their post in regards to how good you or others look, your world had been shaken a bit.

Of course it's to show my progress. I lost nearly 90lbs! I went from being a fat tub to a guy in pretty good shape. I'm proud of that and I won't feel bad about it because of you or anyone else.

Why would anyone have something negative to say about success pics on a site for fitness? I know the reason, you don't need to answer.

Yes. That was me. And the only thing I "assumed" from your pic, as well as your previous post (from what I recall), was that you worked hard to get healthier, lose weight, get ripped and improve your self-esteem.

My question was... for whom did you do all that? Yourself? Or random strangers and weirdos on the Internet?

It was a rhetorical question. Not an insult. Not a "bash."
So I'd love to know what your goal is that you think is so much superior to everyone else's.

Where exactly did I post anything even remotely along the lines of me "being superior to anyone else?"

Again, I'm not saying anything negative about the pics. And you are not telling me why it's necessary to show progress to total strangers. What does that do for you other than give you a bit of an ego boost. Again, there is nothing wrong with showing off what you earned, just be real about why you're doing it is what I'm saying. You obviously were not in shape at one time and didn't get much attention, so this is a way to make up for that-it's cool, I'm not mad at you for that, nor do I fault you for it.

As far as your suggestion that I'm insecure myself, go ahead and think that. I'm not an overweight person, and I've never had a problem with meeting women when I was single, or telling them I'm taken now that I'm married.
