Hey guys and gals! I'm starting Insanity today, and am pretty nervous. I added a few of you guys, but if anybody wants an accountability partner feel free to add me . I have a question.. I was already really sore after doing just the fit test, so I'm assuming I will be REALLy sore after doing the regular sessions. How do you get through the session the day after when you can barely squat to use the restroom you're so sore? Does anyone else have this problem? I'm just anticipating much soreness and not sure how to get through each subsequent session when I'm still super sore from the previous one. Thanks guys and good luck!0

Welcome to the next 60 kick *kitten* days of your life!
I too was VERY sore for the entire 1st week. I'm happy to say I felt less so in week 2 and even better starting out week 3 so it does get better as you get used to the movements, pace, and cardio level. I took ibuprofen and made sure to eat a banana every day but honestly there's not much you can do to prevent it until your body adjusts to the physical demand. What you're feeling is higher levels of lactic acid buildup in your muscles which is 100% normal when you first start an intense program like Insanity. You'll need to push through the pain and modify the moves when you're too uncomfortable. You may also need to take more frequent breaks during the workouts. The good news is that I promise the pain eventually subsides and the soreness goes away as you get further into the program.
I'm going to friend you so we can stay in touch! Good luck!

I wish there was some secret to tell you, but mostly you just have to suck it up the first week. The first three days it hurt just to go through the movements to sit on the sofa. I got to the point where I mostly just let myself fall rather than sit. But just like telo said it does get better. After day 3 I really felt things start to get better and it stopped being so much of a hurt and more of a feeling that I had worked out.
Your other option is to pace yourself a little bit so that you don't feel so bad. You should always be pushing yourself, but if pushing yourself as hard as you did is going to make you not push play the next day then it wasn't worth it. Another day of working out is always going to be better for you than a few more reps the day before.
Just stick with it...it does get better. I'll friend you so we can push through this together.0 -
Im on week 4 of insanity and must I say its AWESOME!!! Just one more week & ill be on month 2 cant wait!!0

Week 2 Fit Test Results
Switch Kicks (55) 60
Power Jacks (63) 64
Power Knees (116) 129
Power Jumps (40) 45
Globe Jumps (12) 12
Suicide Jumps (17) 22
Push Up Jacks (25) 30
*Low Plank Oblique (35) 41
*How do you count low plank obliques? Do you count the same as switch kicks or do you count each oblique?
Tomorrow is weigh day0 -
GettingBack - I count each side as a rep for low plank obliques. I believe that's how Shaun T demonstrates the move. Bottom line, it doesn't really matter how you count as long as you do it consistently to gauge progress. Higher numbers motivate me more so I prefer to count each side...but that's just my opinion!0

Week 3 Day 2 Plyo Cardio Circuit
Owww I'm sore after this morning's session. I must have pushed a bit harder because my HRM showed an increased calorie burn (438) compared to the last time I did this workout (411) so good for me! I was certainly sweating buckets when it was all over!0 -
Week 3 Day 3 Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs
Ok I was really sore after yesterday's workout so the thought of waking up at 4:30 am this morning to get to a combo like PC and CA was not exactly thrilling me but I forced myself to get up and get to it. I definitely burned more calories this time (522) than last time (503) which was great. I must be getting stronger and continued progress in my calorie burn results seems to show that.
I am really looking forward (as always) to Cardio Recovery tomorrow.0 -
Week 3 Day 4 Cardio Recovery
Surprisingly this workout was much harder to get through today than I expected. I wasn't able to hold the squats and lunges for the duration and some of the stretches I actually had to stop/start in the middle. Weird. Anyway, I'm looking foward to my real rest day on Sunday. CP&E tomorrow...should be a sweat fest!!!0 -
Week 3 Day 5 Cardio Power & Resistance
Personal victory...I did more real pushups today than knee pushups! Still can't do a traveling pushup but I'm working on it.
The end of week 3 is finally in sight!0 -
Week 3 Day 6 Plyo Cardio Circuit
Yay last workout of the week is done! I'm looking forward to getting to the end of Month 1 next week. Hope to see some good measurement results at that time and I plan to take another set of pictures.
I'm turning 44 on Monday and I don't plan to be a creaky old woman just yet!!!0 -
Week 4 Day 1 Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs
Feeling a little under the weather today from TOM so I knew my intensity level was going to be less than optimal. Burned about 22 calories less this time around compared to the last time. I feel great though because I pushed through and made it to the end.0 -
Week 4 Day 2 Cardio Power & Endurance
Ugh woke up over an hour late and had to force myself to still work out even though doing so threw my routine out of whack. I'm so proud that I did it and I know it's because I am 100% commited to finishing the entire Insanity program to the best of my ability. I will not fail this time and I will not quit before the 60 days are over.0 -
I just ordered Insanity today. I am very excited to start the workouts. I am usually a high-impact exerciser and have included P90X videos in my routine for quite a while now. Unfortunately, I broke my ankle in May and am still recovering. I can exercise to max intensity, but need to keep everything low-impact. Are there options in the Insanity workout to modify the moves to be low-impact? I'm hoping to start right away but may have to stare longingly at the box for another couple of months if modifications aren't available.0
-
Do you think someone with 100+ to lose can try this, or is it more for people who are lighter? Hubby got it for me, but I'm really big with bad knees...0

Unlike Turbo Fire where there is a modifier on the stage with Chalene, Insanity doesn't include modifications; however, Shaun is adamant that it's better to hold form than maintain speed so you should feel comfortable doing what your body will allow and work from there. There is quite a bit of jumping and running/sprints though in the workouts so if your ankle can't support your weight just yet then you may want to wait a bit longer. Sorry to bear bad news :frown:
Take a look at the workouts before you get going. Perhaps you could start off doing some of the workout and skip the parts your ankle won't allow you to do so you're able to get started. Good luck whatever you decide to do!

You can absolutely do Insanity if you're not afraid to try. Do as much as you can each day (even if it's just some of the warm up). The best part about Insanity is that you build on your cardio endurance and stamina each time you go through a workout. I'm in my 4th week and I still can't do it 100% all the way through but I've definitely gotten better. When you watch the videos you'll see the people stopping frequently, running off set to grab water, etc. The hardest thing for me to get was that I didn't have to keep up with the people on screen as long as I kept moving to the best of my ability. I won't lie, this is a hard program. You may feel like you're going to die from just doing the warm up. Most people, starting weight is irrelevant, feel this way. If you want it bad enough you will find a way to do it. Just keep plugging away and never let yourself feel bad for what you can and can't do because just trying Insanity puts you in a different category than a lot of people. Feel free to friend me if you want an Insanity buddy. There are a lot of us on MFP doing this program so there will be a lot of support if you want it.
Good luck whatever you decide.

Week 4 Day 3 Plyo Cardio Circuit
As usual I'm looking forward to tomorrow's Cardio Recovery session, especially after all that jumping in Plyo! I can't believe the end of week 4 is in sight and that I will soon be done with Month 1. I told my husband last night that I was so proud of myself for doing my workout yesterday even though I overslept and could have skipped it. I really feel like my commitment level is at an all time high and I am confident I will complete Month 2 and earn my shirt.
Can't wait!!!0 -
Week 4 Day 4 Cardio Recovery
Love this workout! I'm now psyched to tackle days 5 and 6 and finish the 1st month of this craziness!!!0 -
Week 4 Day 5 Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs
Well I only have 1 more workout tomorrow to complete to finish my first month of Insanity. Wow the time really flew! I definitely feel stronger and preliminary measurements show I've lost about 0.5" off my chest, 1" off my waist, and 1" off my hips plus I'm close to 5 lbs gone on the scale. My official weigh in and measurement day is Sunday so I won't actually log my progress until then.
I am so ready for Week 5 Recovery Week. I'm hoping Month 2 goes as well as Month 1 did. I'm already thinking about what I want to do once the first round of Insanity is over and I think I'm going to do a second round and then a hybrid of Insanity/ChaLEAN Extreme. My ultimate goal is to fit comfortably into all of the size 10 clothes that are hanging in my closet and I think that is definitely achievable by the end of the year.0 -
wow telcochick you are an inspiration! Ive just read through all this thread and you are amazing!
Today was day 16 for me, im loving it so far, only lost a few lbs to date but feeling so much better in myself and my fitness. Starting to get some tightening just above my knee the last few days, maybe i pushed too hard on my last fit test!
I too must admit to not feeling like it some days but keep pushing on and getting through it! Shaun T might have a few words said to him at times and i usually ask why the heck i started this lol but the feeling you get when you have finished each day is great!0 -
Week 4 Day 6 Plyo Cardio Circuit
Wow I can't believe I completed my first month of Insanity. Tomorrow is my official weigh in day and I will be taking measurements and pictures. I already know I've made some huge progress since this craziness began because I'm now completing a greater percentage of each workout and my calorie burns continue to increase. Today I achieved my highest burn on Plyo so I'm incredibly proud of that accomplishment.
I plan to buy a regular Insanity tee shirt today to celebrate this milestone but I am really FOCUSED on earning the official one at the end of the program. Can't wait to see what Month 2 brings! Onto Recovery Week....0 -
Just started Insanity on Aug.10 did the fit test and this morning did my first workout...plyometric cardio circuit!0
