Hi everyone,
It has been a very busy weekend and I didn't even get to log my calories but I think I did OK.
Congratulations to all for so many accomplishments...weight loss, inches lost, and miles gained! running??? Pinbot chick that is awesome! and personally if I could do it I think running under Christmas lights would rock! Maybe next year for me.
Booboo...I am doing my carpets this week, too!
About HRM...I do believe that the more you pay probably the more accurate but the thing to remember with HRM is that they only tell part of the picture. A HRM is designed to monitor your heart but not your muscles. Sooo... if you are doing an aerobic workout like running, walking, or eliptical, it will give you a good idea of how many calories you burned. But...if you are doing a more "calisthenic" work out you are not getting your heart rate up there but you are really working those muscles. The calorie count on the HRM will not be as high but it doesn't detract from the intensity of the work out or the value!!! Building muscle is our key! This is how we will enter into our 50's, 60's, and 70+ strong and healthy!!! We want to be fit women, not hunched over complaining about our arthritis etc.! Both types of work outs are sooooo important! If I do 30 minutes on the eliptical I burn about 225 calories. If I do 30 minutes of weight lifting I only burn about 100. However, without the weight training I would just be turning into a flabby mass. Osteoporosis runs in our family and I am determined to do what I can to avoid it!
Also, the heavier that you are the more calories that you will burn. When I started 30 minutes of eliptical would burn about 350 calories. HRM that have a setting for your age, weight, and height are a bit more accurate.

Hello Ladies....how out of touch I feel!!...our internet was down this weekend and I was un able to log...chat...check on everyone...my gosh, I just about did not survive!
Glad to hear you are all doing well....
Pinbot chick...You Go....that's super news!
booboogroom...Yum, Yum..Yum!!!!! and great news with your daughter!:flowerforyou:
ItsBella....Pinbot, I was going to suggest the same thing...I also hit the buttons by accident and caused it to lock, then I couldn't use it...thought something was wrong, panic set in...scrambled and started pushing buttons like crazy and ended up
re-setting...LOL My calories are coming in at about a third under, what MFP says or the elliptical, but as I said before, the heart rate has been right on and that is helping a lot!
I took a friend to lunch yesterday, my favorite mexican place...so I really need to get some tough exercise in today, and I'm also wrapping gifts....that Christmas mood is setting in:bigsmile:
At first I thought I missed the registration on the Dash in the snow, 5K under the lights, but the gal called this morning and I'm all set to go. My husband is going to run it with me and it is this Friday evening..looks the the temp will be around 32*, I think I can handle that! I want to try to beat my time. I ran a 5k in September in 30:43...so that is my goal. We'll see,
my Christmas family parties start on Saturday and keep going! I will try to sneak on here when I can...just incase our internet gets crazy again....I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
Dominque.. I hope you had the best time ever..can't wait to hear all about it!0 -
Well! I don't know if I can keep up with all of you girls, but I did go to Yoga this morning and shovel some deep snow so I could take my garbage can roadside. So now I guess I'd better eat breakfast and do some on the elliptical before lunch! I was able to sing in the Messiah last night with 100+ other voices, and Wow was that fun! I'm going to practice more this year, so I can try out for a solo part next year..... I think that is a worthy goal to set for myself.....! Best to everyone I may have gone down one pound this past week, not weigh day yet, but at least I don't think I've gone up any! The parties are closer than a week apart, makes for a little more planning on the managing end of things! Fun and Great Workouts for everyone!!!0

Hello everyone!!! I'm back!!!
My vacations were amazing. I was on deck 5 and the breakfast buffet was on deck 14. You have to know that there is no deck 13 also. I was always in the stairs, walking a lot on the ship. I wanted to move a lot more on the islands, but my knee was not cooperating  I also went to see the personal trainer on board to have a body composition test. I am very satisfied with the results. I have 25.6% of body fat and the ultimate rating is between 15 and 20%. I only need to lose between 5 and 10%. My metabolic rate is 1623 calories a day. That means that my body uses 1623 calories to function. To do some exercises, my body will burn even more calories. If I don't take enough calories during the day, my body will be in starvation mode and that is when I can become sick more easily.
My husband who thought was in better shape than I, had a wake up call. He was not able to go up the 8 decks as I could.
Tomorrow, I am seeing my orthopedist about my knee. I hope something can be done quickly. I'll tell you about it.
For now, it is time to get ready for diner and after, I will go on the Gazelle. I want to lose the 6 pounds I gained as quickly as possible!!!0 -
Good Evening Ladies! What calcium supplement do you take?0
-
Missou I'm so glad :flowerforyou: you had a wonderful time. Makeitallsue I know what you mean one of our computers is down:grumble: so were all fighting to get on line. I have the watch HRM, its pretty accurate. I got it from Walmart for about $30. I need to start my workouts up again, I'm just glad I haven't gained anything. But now I have Bronchitis, :grumble: I had no idea it was Contagious in the first 24 hours. I told my son and daughter I was going to put a note on the door telling all who are sick TO STAY AWAY NO ENTRANCE:laugh: . I have a can of Lysol by the front door now:laugh: . Hell I'm tired of catching everyones crap  . I just barely got over my sinus infection and now this. But I'm going to try to workout on my elliptical tonight .

Hi gals! I too am finally having that Christmas feeling. We got dumped on over the weekend and my son is home from college. We went downhill skiing for the first time today. BLISS!
booboogroom: sorry you are not feeling well. I think a sign at your door should get the message across. Somethings are just not meant to be shared. Top of the list is GERMS! If you don't mind I would like to make a reservation for four. Your menu sounds terrific.:flowerforyou:
itsbella: I don't take a supplement. Mostly because I have had two bone density tests over the years as a result of tyroid issues and my bones are great.
Have a good night.:flowerforyou:0 -
booboo - I feel bad for you. Bronchitis is never fun. I always seem to get it following a bad cold. Good luck with all your cooking when you don't feel well.
itbella - I don't take a special calcium supplement but often do take a daily multi vitamin that has calcium in it - the GNC women's vitamin.
missou - welcome back. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. Good luck with your ortho doc.
shariguymon - you keep up just fine. I need to do more yoga.
snowflakes - doesn't a good dumping of snow feel great. We got 2 ft in about 3 days and the world is beautiful. Another 4 inches came down today - I love the way it makes the world look fresh and clean. I saw 2 wild elk on my drive home and was wishing that I'd had my camera.
makeitallsue - I'm impressed your husband is going to run with you. I will be thinking about you Friday night. Have fun.0 -
Good morning!!!
I don't take any calcium suppplement, but I take a lot of milk.
Booboo, I wouldn't go on the elliptical with a bronchitis if I were you. I had many when Hubby was smoking and was caughing a lot when I was doing exercises. Take it easy for a while and give your body a chance to recuperate.
I am not in the Christmas feeling. To much doctors appointments this week :grumble:
I didn't go on the Gazelle yesterday. I when out to do some snow removal and I had to go in the attick because our roof was leaking and there was water in my room :explode: This morning, my back is in real bad shape :ohwell:
I guess I won't do much exersise until Friday evening, Hubby will never be around at night until then0 -
I don't take a calcium supplement either but a lady at work suggested it to prevent bone loss. I'm so bad with taking anything!0
-
Missou: I'm so sorry you had to come home to a leaky roof. Good luck with your Dr. appointments, I hope they can pin point the problem quickly. Hang in there!0
-
Thanks Snowflakes. My knee is still swollen and the doctors order are to do some bicycle and to put some ice on the knee after to help evacuate the fluids.
I will have to get myself a stationnary bicycle since there is snow outside  Hubby can also help me. I should be ok pretty soon!!! Nest appointment in 3 months.0 -
oh me, oh my 2 days of no real exercise :ohwell: I did spend most of today shopping which does burn calories but doesn't get your heart rate up. On the up side, my Christmas shopping is done and I now own an iphone. I can't wait to get the MFP app onto the phone
missou - sorry to hear that you didn't get a diagnosis for you knee right away.0 -
Hi ladies!
Today was spent in town and I am happy to say that we are (all most) ready for Christmas. Now I have got to get busy wrapping. On the shopping list was three wedding gifts as well. It feels like I did very little shopping and a whole lot of standing in line.:noway: When I find the shortest line it always is the slowest to checkout. Anybody else have that kind of luck?
It has been very quiet around here. Hope everyone is doing well.
pinbotchick: wishing you an early MERRY CHRISTMAS!:bigsmile:0 -
Hello Ladies.....  Hope everyone's day is starting out great!
Missou, so sorry to hear of your troubles, with the roof and your knee....hope you can get back to normal quickly!
Pinbotchick...I'm glad to hear I am not the only one behind on exercising, I didn't log all weekend and then I didn't exercise Sunday or Monday.  , not for lack of trying...I just went from one thing to the next.....I hear ya on the shopping, no heart rate spikes...LOL, and you would think it would happen as the cashier rings up my totals!!!!
I did end up getting my daughter the camera...she should be excited. I am having trouble finishing up my 11 year old son though... I'm going to have to get finished soon!
Snowflakes...I had a 2-day wrapping marathon...I am glad to say, I just have to finish my oldest daughter and my Grandkids today and then woo-hoo, I'm finished with the wrapping too...
I did a pretty good indoor workout yesterday, upper body with weights, abs, a good stretch and 5 miles on the elliptical. I want to get outdoors for a run today, but boo-hoo it's only 15* right now and a high of only 28* today....on the upside, this Friday it is suppose to be 45*, so our 5K will be bearable! I feel horrible for my husband though, he has to work 12 hours today and 12 tomorrow at work, they are behind on orders or something like that....good thing he is in good shape cus, he's just going to show up on Friday and go for it! (I'm sure he'll get a good time too....I'm secretly jealous of that!!)
Have a great Wednesday everyone....the weeks half over!0 -
Hello ladies!!
Guess what!! I lost 4.2 pounds since Monday morning!! ! It has got to be all water 3 more pounds and I'll be back to my pre-cruise weight
I wanted to know how are you going to make Christmas healthier for everyone. Here, instead of having chips, we serve clementines pealed and separated. It is a great success and it is more hydrating than a bowl of chips!!! We also have the traditionnal veggies and dip. This year, I'll use fat free sour cream. I think it is available. If not, I'll use fat free yogurt!!
Since I shoveled the snow, my neck hurts a lot and I haven't done any exercises. I will go back in my stairs today. It is not hard on the neck and it is a good cardio workout. The doctor didn't tell me what was wrong with my knee, but he did let me know that there was nothing serious enough to stop me from working out. He even told me that bicycling was the best thing for me. That is all I wanted to know. I looked on the net and I found an exercycle combined with a rower second hand
http://quebec.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=172134656
I think I will go and get it. It looks like a good workout for my knee and my heart.
Take care of yourselves and have a super day!!0 -
Hi ladies,
Have been cooking and freezeing things for later. How is it that containers with mysterious contents end up at the back of the fridge time and time again? eeww... Tonight we have a Christmas party at Church. It will be an interesting night of guesstimating calories. Take Care0 -
So the MFP iphone app worked good for logging calories during the day today. I was kind of bummed that it doesn't include the community topics. I will have to play with the internet portion to see if I can bring it up. Can someone please send a kick in the a@@ my way - I am on day 3 of no exercise. I just cant seem to get motivated - it doesn't help that I woke up with a sore throat that hasn't gone away. So I thought I was done shopping but DH doesn't like what I got his dad :noway: So I am putting DH in charge of getting a replacement gift - I guess that means we will get down state and have to do last min shopping :grumble:
makeitallsue - I am still laughing about your heart rate spiking with shopping at the cash register   I hope you got an afternoon run in.
snowflakes - I grow mold on my back of the fridge things. It's amazing how containers just disappear for days then show up nice and colorful. Have fun at the party.
missou - the bike/rower looks neat. The bike will be excellent for you knee. The rower part if using legs may put some pressure on knee but you could get a great upper body workout with the rowing. I am glad the water weight is coming off. I haven't decided how to make Christmas healthier. I think I am at others Mercy.0 -
I am a mother of 2- Girl 13 1/2 and a boy almost 12. I started April 1st and am almost down 60 pounds. This site has been great for me. All you mothers out there- do this for YOU!0

Welcome to our group!!!0

Hello everyone, just a quick catch up and then I am finishing up a Christmas gift for a friend, I'm making her a quilted pillow with a picture of her grandsons on it. I am using faux suede and silk...and since they are boys I'm trying to have it be a bit more masculine, I top stitched on some chunky yarns to frame out the photo...I'm liking the way it is turning out.:drinker: I would love to finish this evening and get it in the mail tomorrow, she lives a state over.
Missou....4.2 since Monday...You rock girlfriend!:flowerforyou:
I'm doing the fruit tray with my family, I'm planning on picking up different types and experimenting with at least 3 that we have not tried before. Angel food cake, with lots of fresh strawberries. I always make cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning, but I have been working all year on a lighter version and my son was just asking me yesterday if I was going to be starting them...he's in the mood!
Snowflakes....a little weird, but we usually do the same things during our days...I was also putting things in the freezer! I have been doing so much better this year with the mystery bowls....it was a new years resolution, only make enough servings for the meal, so there are no leftovers and it helps us with over eating and the second was to use coupons every time I shop. I'm proud to say it got easier and I still have been doing it....I should tally up the totals here soon and see how I did for the year!
PInbotchick....the Christmas season is in full swing,(so give yourself a tiny break) but you'll feel so much better when you do something for yourself:bigsmile: , start frailing those arms around....or put on your snow shoes....or just do some jumping jacks and maybe some push ups...get that heart rate moving girl, you so deserve it:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
I did get a run in, the sun was shining so brightly that I didn't even notice the cold:laugh: , have to share ....as I was coming up on mile three, I decided to turn around and I was going to go back another half mile and then home, to add an extra mile to my run.....that Bella girl of mine...she turned the corner and ran straight for home...I ran a little way, then turned around and made sure she was going home....I scolded her and then made her stay and I ran down to the next half mile and back.....so I ended up running I'm sure a little over 4 miles today without stopping, it felt great! I tired out my dog....now that's a boost! She's only 1 1/2 years and a Choc lab/australian shepard mix with tons of energy....not today, Momma tired her out:laugh:
la4et...Welcome and super great job on that loss of 60 pounds, that is a nice steady loss. What types of exercise to you enjoy?
Well I better get busy, talk to you all later!!0 -
Good morning girls!!
I love the fruit tray idea Debra. I just might be temped in preparing one also. I'll have to look into it.
I am getting my new gym equipment tomorrow evening. I can't wait to try it!! I hope to get rid of my knee pain as quickly as possible.
Have a nice day and be good to yourselves!!0 -
Wow it is quiet around here again. I enjoy reading your posts so I hope it is just because of the holidays that so many aren't posting. I would like to see this group continue. I don't carry on a interesting conversation with myself, and I fear of being committed to the psych ward if I start answering myself. Okay so I do think out loud and answer myself at times, but I try to limit it in public. My days have been consumed with my oldest being home from college. No routine so I am anxious to see what the scales say tomorrow for my weekly weigh-in. Have a good evening.0
-
Tomorrow, Hubby will go and get my cycle rower!!! He just finished massaging my neck and it feels good.
You are not alone Snowflakes, I am still around!
Good night and take care!!0 -
Hello everyone - so l am feeling better and did manage to workout yesterday. The scale likes me this week and I am down 3 more pounds. I feel like the butter is just melting off - I am kind of scared that this has been too easy to lose the weight. I tend to forget about all of the hard workouts, extra time at grocery store reading food labels and time to cook better.
I took yesterday off and spent the evening with DH. We decided not to turn the computers on - I think he has been feeling neglected.
makeitallsue - good luck with your run tonight.0 -
Good Morning Pinbotchick!! We are up and online early today!
Debra, nice job on the run! 4 miles, that's my goal tomorrow. Today is weight training and elliptical.
Missou, Congrats on the new equipment and Welcome to our group! These ladies have welcomed me with open arms!
Anyhow, Tom is on his way and I'm feeling fat. I ate Thai last night and not my usual meal (veggies and chicken) I had the fried rice with chicken and it through my calories up the f'in roof...it was soooo good though and now I'm feeling the guilty pleasure. So that why today I'm hitting the exercise pretty hard. Somehow, I feel better confesing??? Does this happen to you ladies??? Feeling better after confesing????0 -
Missou: Thanks for chiming in. Hoping that your new machine agrees with you and that you will not have any pain. The body is an amazing thing the way it can heal. Hope you are 100% soon.
makeitallsue: Hope that your run tonight is enjoyable. I love that you get to run with your husband. Christmas lights are so magical and what a great way to spend some time for the holidays.
pinbotchick: WOO HOO on three more pounds down. It really is melting off of you. Glad that you are feeling better.
itsbella: Part of the great thing about sharing with each other, it keeps you accountable. Yes I think we all can relate. Just an update for you on Missou. If you look below her ticker you will see that she was on a cruise for her 20th Wedding Anniversary when you joined on with us. Not to be confused with the cruise she will yet be going on with her family. I feel sorry for her being gone so much hee hee but I think she is managing just fine.
Today I weighed in at 201.4 that is down 2 pounds from last week and it is 2 pounds away from being under 200! Hopefully by New Years... Everyone have a great day.0 -
Hello ladies!!!
Itsbella, I have been on this thread since the first day. I was on vacation from November 26 to December 13th. That is why you haven't seen much of me until last Monday. I want to welcome you and tell you to make yourself at home. I was on a 14 nights cruise and I always have used the stairs while on the ship except for 3 times. In the dining room and at the buffet, I always tried to make wise food choice, they were always delicious!!
I can't wait to have my cycle-rower tonight. I have got some things to take out of my training room so the exerciseur can fit in it. After that, nothing else will fit!!! Today, I will go in my stairs, I will finish to clean up my kitchen, I will finish to arrange my training room and I will go on my treadmill. Hubby did give me a good massage last night and I am still sore. I most take it easy for a day or 2.
I am preparing myself for a colonoscopy next Monday. I will not eat for a little more than 24 hours, all I can take are some clear liquids on Sunday. I will make the most of it and make wise food choices afterwards. If this can help me lose a pound or 2, I will be very happy
Next Monday and Tuesday, I won't be so strong, but I will try to do a few things such as the stairs, some cycle and some treadmill. I am not making any promises...
Take care everyone and have a super day!!!!0 -
Congradulations Pinbotchick on your lose!!! I hope you had a nice evening yesterday. It is nice to have an evening off with Hubby sometimes, makes them feel important
Come on Snowflkes, I know you can reach 199 by December 31st!!! You can do it!!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:  By the way, thanks for your kind words, I most agree that being on cruises so much can be so hard The hardest part is the sacrifices I must make at home to be able to do them. My flooring is not done and I have a few things that would need my financial attention... But I prefer to go out at sea. It is a choice that my mother-in-law can not comprehend... Too bad for her!!   I also choose to be in an inside cabin to same money, something a lot of people do not understand. They prefer to have a balcony or a suite and to cruise once a year only. Their lose!!!0 -
Sorry for the confusion ladies.
Pinbotchick, Congrats on the loss!:flowerforyou:
I just finished 60 mins on the elliptical and abs, arms, chest and back! I feel good!!0
