Well, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. This past week has been a whirlwind. We had so many problems with the closing of the sale that I actually had to take some TUMS (never even had to do that when I was pregnant!). But it's all done now and I hope the new owners love my home. It was my dream home and it was hard to leave (until I was paying rent plus the mortgage each month  )

While I said I was going to try to be good over Christmas, I actually wasn't all that great. I gained 4 pounds in the past week. Not terribly out of whack, but 4 pounds I have to lose again. My sister and I did hit the gym on Tuesday before it closed. Won't call it the best lifting session I've ever had, but I did it.

@Mel...ice storms are yucky. We were very lucky to come out of last spring's one with only some tree damage (and only one tree). I agree it's beautiful, but I remember seeing pictures of Sioux Falls after it and it was so sad to see that trees down and houses wrecked. Glad everyone is okay and it sounds like you will still have a great Christmas. Hope the damage is minimal.
@Laurie...Glad you are getting some "book" time in. When I lived in Sioux Falls, that was my treat after I got the house clean on a winter day...I'd light a fire, grab a blanket and sit and read. Now my books have become my retreat from my cramped apartment...I grab a book, head to my room and read to avoid the clutter of a cramped apartment. :embarassed: I'm also so happy that you were able to have your Dad for Christmas, even if it was just a few hours.
@Karen...I ordered delivery Chinese on the 20th and it was delivered 1 1/2 hours after I ordered it. Glad I had ordered a pizza for my kids and my two nephews as they would not have handled the wait well.
@Kaye...glad you got out for a bit. We've had temps in the 20's for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and it felt like heaven. Today and tomorrow it's going to reach the 30s even!!! We needed a reprieve from the single digits and below zeros we've been having. The only problem is we've had sporadic snow and you can't tell my van is blue at all. Maybe a car wash in my near future.
@Robin...I'm so glad your whole family can be together. What a wonderful Christmas for you!
    @Alupinsk...congrats on teh 16!!!

Today I am thankful for games. My family has always spent time around a table playing games and yesterday was no different. We played some Yahtzee Turbo and Sorry with the kids and just to sit back and listen to the giggles makes me happy. I also want to tell you quickly about my gift from Emma. Michael apparently doesn't give her as much direction as I do. She wrapped her present by herself (lovely) and was so proud. I opened it up and it's a figurine of a mother holding a baby that reads -- NEW MOM. HA! My baby is 7 1/2 years old!!

My wish for all of us is that we get back on track (if you fell off the wagon this holiday season) and that we end the year 2013 in a great fashion and we all look forward to an awesome 2014.

I heard from my Dr. about my MRI results bright and early this morning. That is NOT good. He is referring me to a neurologist for further interpretation and wouldn't tell me anything other than the sphenoid sinus did not get clear from the antibiotics. It still looks full on the MRI .So it could be a tumor. Plus the MRI showed "other abnormalities". I can't get in with the neurologist til Jan. 17. So it goes on and on for me. Still have the tongue pain problem and fatigue problem too. Can't wait til this is solved. Could use more prayers.

@Robin - SOOO many good and positive vibes going your way!

Thursday thanks - I'm so thankful I got to spend yesterday with my family. My mom filled my stocking with oranges, a squash, and pomegranate instead of candy. I'm so happy my family is starting to realize I'm serious about this weight loss, and it looks like mom's finally getting on board with helping me. I'm so excited about that!

@robin--sorry you have to wait longer for the word on your test results--sending warm thoughts and good vibes your way. :flowerforyou:

@tracy--glad the house sale is finally complete! :drinker: I bet those 4 lbs come right off once you are back on track with food and exercise. The gift from emma is hilarious--I guess she still views herself as your baby.

    Thursday Truth:
I've been sporadically smoking for over a month now. Need to get back on the e-cig and quit again. At least I know I can do it since I did it before. I know from experience I'll have one bad day of nicotine withdrawal (headache, nausea, fever), so I want to get past that before I have to go back to work on Jan. 6th.

Today, I am cleaning a bit--dishes and laundry, but also need to run a broom through the house. Gunner's fur is everywhere--it gathers like tumbleweeds along the baseboards. After that I will head to starbucks to grade for a bit. I want to get started on the AP essays. I'm wavering about whether or not I want to go to the gym first.
  • Thursday - Truth (got anything you need to fess up to or get off your chest?)

Truth: Today I weigh more than I have in many many many moons. Maybe as many as 10 years ago. I am not mad at me. I am tired of me not fixing this. But to be a total hypocrite. I am tired of viewing myself as the problem. I am not a problem. I am the solution. --Now i just need to believe it. Because without believing that I am the solution to all that is kiddywompus in my life. I am hopeless.

DH has been sick for a week. He finally admitted he was sick enough to go to the Dr. He has a pretty bad case of bronchitis. They did a chest xray and there is no pneumonia. Today I am thankful for antibiotics. He should be back to normal soon.
Robin, I'm sorry that your MRI was so scary. I wish you could see the neurologist sooner.
Thursday truth: The holidays have not been good to me. Today I am up 5# from my previous low. On January 1st I am going to update my ticker and hit this with vengeance again.
It sounds like Christmas was good for everyone.
    Have a good day. Kaye

Good Morning everyone. Happy to hear everyone seems to have had a good Christmas. Ours was wonderful.Had a great time with the family. My family spoiled me. My son got me some new Bose speakers for my computer, the daughter got me the waffle maker I have been wanting and hubby got my the food saver system I have been hinting about for the last six months:tongue: All in all a great day. Now for the fun of cleaning up and getting the house put back together. I am going to take my time this year though and try to be organized so next year it will be easier to find.
Robin I hope you get answers and relief soon. I am sending you waves of good thoughts and positive energy.:flowerforyou:

Hope everyone had a great holiday and you probably won't see me till the New Year.

Good mojos heading your way my friend!
Ok, and I'm going to let you in on a secret... at least in Arizona (and lots of other places too) they have figured out that a large percentage of persistent sinus infections are FUNGAL... which means that antibiotics won't do squat. Plus the simple fact that oral antibiotics have a lot of trouble clearing sinus infections in the first place, as the infection is INSIDE the sinus cavity, which isn't terribly vascular. Aaaannnd.... sinus pressure can cause all sorts of cranial nerve symptoms....

So, decent chance that it isn't anything horrible... and you probably have mold growing in your nose
(sounds gross, but a lot less scary than the 'other things', right?... except, GROSS....)

    BIG HUGS!

Robin- Sending prayers your ways. Are you close to a Mayo clinic? If so, maybe you can have them check you out. They really helped get to the bottom of my aunt's problem and my uncles swears by them. They are about 2 hours away from one but they go anyway. Hope you get an answer soon and that it is better news.

Truth- I have been enjoying a few to many cookies and pieces of candy this week. The good news is I am working it off during my workouts. With that said, I need to careful not to overindulge in those treats.

I did have a good workout today a strong cardio workout with biking, ARC trainer and running. As I was debating if I was going to run or not, a "friend" I have known at the gym for the past three years caught up with me. After catching up for a few laps, he wanted to run so I ran with him. It was a good run but I ran faster than I should have but it felt good. It was easier with this person running next to me. He is older than me, married and has a family but I always enjoy our conversations when I see him during the summer and on breaks. I think we are going out to lunch next weekend but I will see what happens, we may not see each other again before next weekend.

    12/22 to 12/28
    Sunday- Swim DONE
    Monday- Trainer workout DONE
    Tuesday- Gym DONE
    Wednesday- Christmas no workout DONE
    Thursday- Gym DONE
    Friday-Climbing
    Saturday- Swim

Kaye- Thank you for suggesting this challenge, it has really made me realize the number of blessings in my life.

My Dad may be coming home on Saturday. We are meeting with the rehab center tomorrow to learn the status and see where we go next (home or longer stay). I must admit I have mixed emotions about my dad coming home right now. He still needs to build his muscles and learn to get himself up and out of chairs on a more consistent basis especially at night. He will have therapy at home. The main issue I have is that when he does come home it will be more nerve racking as he moves from the car into the house and back again.

I wish that my dad would be able to walk better and consistently have the strength to get himself up and to take care of his own needs.

@laurie--I can completely understand the mixed feelings you have. I'm sure you want your dad home, but you want to be sure he won't hurt himself either. Tough situation--I hope it all works out for your family.

@vickie & robin--am I remembering right that your original diagnosis was fungal, robin?

@p1xy--glad you enjoyed your holiday, and I bet at least some of that weight is water. Happy New Year to you too!

@tammy--sounds like you got some great gifts! Another bonus of my decision to NOT decorate (since no one comes over for the holidays anyways) is that I don't have to take it all down and put it away!

@kaye--glad the DH's diagnosis showed no pneumonia--not that bronchitis is fun, but much less scary.

@bee--what alupinsk said & welcome!! :flowerforyou:

@alupinsk--glad your family is on board with the healthy treats. I  pomegranates!

@gwen--great job getting through the holidays!:drinker:

AFM--I went to starbucks and graded ONE paper. However, I did an inventory and my AP student who is failing didn't turn one in, so I'm actually down 2. Didn't make it to the gym b/c I decided to shovel instead--got a decent calorie burn out of it. Also took gunner on a nice walk. Smoked my last cigarette about an hour ago, so I'm back on the e-cig.

    Grading goals:
    1. 1/72 AP essays
    2. x/26 Scarlet Letter essays
    3. 17/17 AP analysis activities DONE
    4. x/11 "Lottery" analysis activities
    5. x/52 Scarlet Letter annotations

    Exercise goals:
    Mon--walk gunner NOT DONE
Tues--walk gunner DONE + gym (lift and HIIT) DONE
    Wed--walk gunner NOT DONE
Thurs--walk gunner DONE + gym (cardio) NOT DONE (shoveled instead)
Fri--walk gunner + gym (lift and HIIT)
    Sat--walk gunner + gym (cardio)
Sun--walk gunner + gym (lift and HIIT)

    Exercise & Weight:
    Bench press = 85
    Dead lift = 90

Hello everyone. Sorry I did not get on here the past two days to post. :frown: I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was really nice. We had a nice time Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. My dad scolded me for buying him too much for Christmas. He always scolds me for buying him gifts. When I spoke to my mom yesterday she told me that my dad (who is in a wheelchair due to his MS) asked her to bring him the stuff I bought him. He ended up using the things I bought! (Adaptive equipment to make things a bit easier for him)

I am super excited, my husband bought me a new TV for my art/workout room. My tv in there was so old that when I put my workout dvds in I was lucky if I got a picture. When I did get a picture it was extremely distorted. I did my workouts based mostly on verbal cuing rather than visual. It was so nice actually being able to see the dvd last night when I was working out. I noticed I was doing one exercise a bit different than Gilad was doing so I changed that. Brian also got me my set of hand weights. So now I can increase my weights!

I have not been overly concerned about calories for Christmas. I ate but tried to eat in moderation. I logged Christmas eve but didn't log Christmas day. I didn't know how to log all I ate because I didn't count/ measure how much I was eating. I also didn't get a chance to work out Christmas day. I got up and began cooking some stuff to bring to my parents house. Before I knew it the morning was almost over and we had to get going. Yesterday I spent the day organizing and getting ready for our post-Christmas party tomorrow. I didn't log my cleaning but I logged my food. I saw that I went over by 150 calories so I decided to get in a Gilad workout. Today I stepped on the scale and saw I was down to 234.6!!! I saw this number towards the end of last week a few times. I was really excited to see it again so I updated my weight on here. When I did a MFP message popped up suggesting to recalculate my goals because I lost a significant amount of weight. I decided it was a good idea so I did it. I changed my activity level from sedentary to lightly active (or whatever the next level up is). I still have my goal to lose 1.5 lbs per week. It bumped me up to 1650 calories per day. I will try it out and see how it goes.

Due to tomorrow's festivities I probably will not get on here to check-in.

Mel - sorry to hear about the damage caused by the ice. You have a good way of looking at it. It does sound beautiful.

Robin - Sorry to hear you didn't get the results you were hoping for. I am keeping you in my prayers.
Glad to hear your color came out good. Mine did too. It's a bit darker than what I usually have but I like it. It is a nice change. I did my entire get in the shower routine to color it. I like your idea of covering the counter with newspaper.
That is nice that you were getting together with your siblings! I hope you had a great time.

Toots - My husband never bought me the peppermint bark but he did buy me a peppermint bark candle. Not exactly the same thing but I love it all the same. Good thing I snuck a bag of bark into the shopping cart the other day when we were out and about.

    Jane - Welcome!

Skinnyjeanz- I know what you mean about the roots and gray. My gray was terrible. Yum to the asparagus. I will have to try that, I love asparagus. Wahoo for being down 2 papers and back on the e-cig!

Laurie - Wahoo to the starter being fixed! I understand exactly what you mean about the mixed feelings with your dad coming home. I felt the same way when I went through it with my dad. My dad was apprehensive about coming home too for the same reasons. Ironically, he has made more progress since coming home than he did in rehab. The therapy he received at home was better. Then he began going 2x a week to the local hospital for therapy. That is really where he made the most progress. I wish all the best for your dad!

Alupinsk - Congrats to the 16's! That is wonderful that your mom is finally on board with helping you through this process. I am happy for you!

Beeyourown - Just take it one day at a time and make one small change at a time. Before you know it things will get easier and you will be amazed at so much you have accomplished. You can do this!

Kaye - I hope DH feels better soon. I have been fluctuating all week too. I know things will even out once the holiday passes and I get back on track. Hang in there!

Jtconst - I got a waffle maker too! I love waffles and have been talking about having some for the past month or so. My husband surprised me with one. We made waffles yesterday and they were so yummy!!!!

Robin, Hang in there. I know how intimidating the neurologist's office can be. I'm thinking only the best for you. I'm glad you spent Christmas with your family. I agree, that is what it's all about.

Thanks to all for your concerns about the ice storm. Well, I'm really lucky, had a warm Christmas where there are still thousands ( about 50,000) others nearby who still don't have heat and it's been almost a week! We have 'refugees' (from the city), who came to live with my neighbour as they don't have heat and he does. and Yes, all the photographers are out taking pictures, but there is a lot of damage. It breaks my heart to see the trees split and broken. Most of the ice is still there and hasn't melted. My house the damage isn't too bad, but they won't start to repair it yet. They had to pull down the ceiling in the bathroom , and also tear out a wall in my living room. WE have to be sure to shovel the snow (on a deck) away from the house. It has been snowing off and on every day. WE think we solved the ice damming problem by having heated wired put up on the roof and down the eavestrough into the ground. They won't freeze as long as we have power.
I've always loved the winter time....I hope I continue to feel this way as today is only the 7th day of winter

I am so stiff and sore and need to go to the gym, but lately have a lot of excuses not to get there. I need to figure out a better routine to get to the gym. Many of you are still getting in your exercise over the holidays and I'm inspired.

well I survived christmas with no gain and no loss. Considering that i have ZERO self control when treats are around i am happy with this. I have been working out every day except christmas and drinking 12-14 glasses of water every day. Seems to be doing the trick. Now to get the eating back in control.
My daughter has gone to ireland for 10 days so thankfully there will be no more baking!!

Good morning ladies and whatever gents might be lurking about. Today is going to be a good day. Got up and putzed around for awhile and then took the dogs for a nice long walk. I officially added another lap to the route. That puts me at three. My eventual goal is four or five but boy am I pooped at three right now though I can feel that energy bubbling under the surface so I just will sit here and catch my breath. I got a start on the house yesterday but i knew the hubby had to go into the shipyard to work today so I waited for most of it so I could workout my new speakers:laugh: Got some more rubbermaid containers and a giant sharpie so ready to take this all down in an organized manner. Of course first I have to clean the kitchen I have been avoiding. I dont know why but I am kinda ocd about the kitchen having to be the first room done when I clean. Well I hope you all have a great day. Cya all later:flowerforyou:  :drinker:

Set your personal monthly challenge and share it with us.

January: Personal challenge is going to be to get into the lower 220s. I'm running roughly 10 pounds lost each month, which is fine by me. :) It's weird to think how far I've come in the last 5 months. I have no fitness resolutions for the new year....only to continue getting more fit and more happy. :) When I weighed myself today I "hit" my 70 pound mark, but Sundays are my weigh in day, so we'll see if that fluctuates any.

30 pounds away from having lost 100 just seems so surreal...I still feel like I'm over 300, but my body feels so much better. I'm hoping by the end of February I'm close to 200. It'll be the first time since high school I've weighed that little. It's definitely attainable. Just have to keep plugging away. :) I decided when I hit 100 lost, I am going to buy myself a piece of jewelry. I've never bought myself "real" jewelry before, but this is the time to do it. :) I'm also trying to figure out if I can financially swing taking a cruise or a big trip down to the SC/GA/FL area in late September. According to my calculations, if I continue losing roughly 10 pounds each month, I will be in the 150s by that time, which is my ultimate goal weight. I want to celebrate my loss and go big on it! :) I've never weighed under 175 pounds in my teenage or adult life, so I'm very excited to see what I'll look like when that happens.
  • Hi!

I'm new to the whole message board thing, but I really would love some support and accountibility! I have had several friends kind of jump on and off the fitness bandwagon this year who have been supportive, but I would love a more steady and dependable group that I can share my struggles and journey with. I began focusing on my fitness on January 1st of 2013. When I started I weighed in at 361 pounds. I am now 245 lbs and have lost 116 lbs this year! I have done this soley by calorie tracking and exercise.

My goal is to finish this year strong, and to stay motivated in reaching my goals. My major focus for 2014 will be to lose 100 more pounds and make it to my goal weight. It's going to be tough, but I know that I can do it.

Friday- I just spent a ton of time yesterday entering the schedules for classes at my gym I want to try. My goal for this weekend is to try at least one class, and spend time doing yoga and getting my fitbit steps in. I don't have any specific eating plans for the weekend other than to stay within my daily calorie goal. I do plan on grocery shopping (ugh), so I can cook at home and make healthier choices than I would if I were to go for food.

Thanks in advance for letting me join the discussion!
