    We really don't have a protocol on here Saleemah, all we ask is that posters are trying to lose a significant amount of weight. The thread says 100 pounds, but there are a lot of folks on here who have much less than that left to lose and we want to continue supporting one another all the way to the final goal and even into maintenance if they want to post on here.

    As a group, we try to encourage one another and we share our goals here. We also like to do joint challenges to keep us focused on the path. If you go to page 1 you will read that we often use a daily motif if we want, and along the way many of us joined in to establishing a motto that we 'live by'.

    If you want to continue, post often enough so we get to know you and you get to know us. Many of us have been here from the beginning of the thread, I joined it in 2014. You can bookmark this thread so you can find it again quickly. ... just click the star at the top of the page across from the name of the thread.     @RobinsEgg (Ellen)~I'm here, not posting much because I haven't been feeling well (headaches/migraines). I appreciate you reaching out to us "old-timers" though. :heart: :wink:

    @Karen ~Glad you are able to take this afternoon and tomorrow off work to be there for your friend, I know she appreciate the love/support.

    @SaleemahR ~Welcome to the thread. @Nikion901 did a great job filling you in on the happenings around here. The best advice I can give is that you stop back often to receive the most support/motivation.

    AFM~Not much to report, scale moving downward albeit as a snails pace. But as long as its a downward trend, that's all I care about. :wink: As I stated to Robin above, still dealing with headaches/migraines which has left me with zero appetite--hope to hear back from doc today/tomorrow with lab results (he's been crazy busy) and see what next steps are. He may send me for full work up with endocrinologist re hormones/thyroid.

    Thursday Truth ... I have not worked on that additional goal yet so far this week. Instead, I got caught up in a thread on the Nutition Debate forum. Now I'm trying to catch up on the work I have to do. However, eating wise, I have been doing really well.

    Lately I haven't been feeling very hungry and wonder about it ... not just not feeling very hungry, but ... more importantly ... not feeling cravings for comfort foods. I need to take a look back into my diary to see if I can identify any thing specific that is affecting me. I'm certainly not worried about it ... with 70 pounds still to lose to just get into the 'overweight' category (my present goal) it certainly is a God-send when I don't want to keep stuffing my mouth. I have a suspicion it's because I've been staying on the lower side of carbs by not eating bread (or other baked goods), and I'm only allowing myself 2 servings of fruit a day ... small servings. Or maybe it's the increase in protein.

    Anyone else ever figured it out for themselves why sometimes you had big-time cravings and other times not? Was it what you ate, how much you ate, or something else?

    @skinnyjeanzbound ... I know this will be a difficult few days as you support your friend with her dad's funeral. Looking forward to hearing how you did through these days when you can post again.

    @RobinsEgg ... Glad you are back into the thread on a regular basis. Hope your health allows you to keep dieting and working out with us.

    ... reminds me that this is the approach I have slowly modified myself into; thinking of food as medicine, cause I sure used it as poison in the past!

    @Kah68 ... I hope you find out what is triggering those migraines. Have you added any particular food recently? I know that sounds silly, that it could be food related. I used to suffer from migraines when I was a young girl and into adulthood but they stopped after I went through menopause. Glad not to have them anymore. I used to take a tiny little pill that had to be taken before I lifted my head up from my pillow when I awoke in the morning. It didn't stop a migraine, but it blocked the pain. It was weird, because I would wake up feeling fine but as soon as I lifted my head up, or sat up, the pain would start. I'd be very sick from the migraine and went through a period where I had one every day for over 6 months. Sure hope that's not what is going on with you.

    That is kind of what's been going on since early January. I actually wake up okay in the morning, but just about the time I leave for work the headache starts--I very often go to bed at night with a migraine. I'm nauseated throughout the day too. I know I'm perimenopausal but still several years away from being on the other side of menopause. So it could definitely be related to hormones. My doc did prescribe a migraine preventative medication that he wanted me to take before bed, but it was causing dizziness and some other unpleasant side effects so I had to quit taking it. Not sure what next steps are but hope we figure it out soon. As luck would have it, my annual eye exam is today--so at least we'll see if its vision related.

    @Nikion901 Thanks for the help!! Seems like a great group already.

    I've been away from MFP for 2-3 years and would give anything to get back to that weight. I'm 5'11 and 273lbs. MFP says my weight should be 150 but I have a picture when I was 180 and I looked great so I'm staying between 170-180. I love working out, its just the getting started part that I hate. I want to lose weight for myself {my husband and I got married and he couldn't carry be over the threshold :( }

    Thursday truth: Hmmm... I had my ice sandwich last night and ate it too.... x2! :) lol i logged it in my diary and stayed within my calories for the day though. i was a little over on protein and a little over on fat. BUT, I was honest about it. It was an almond milk mini ice cream sandwich, probably should've only ate 1, but i indulged. ;)

    Confession: I bought a second fitness tracker yesterday because I've read so many good reviews for the Fitbit Charge HR and I wanted the continuous heart rate monitoring. But I'm still wearing my original Jawbone UP3 because it has a better sleep tracker. I'm addicted to stats!!!!

    @robin I'm still here. Just lurking because I am completely off track most days right now. I just haven't been able to get my head around things again.
    DH is improving a lot right now. He has been able to do a lot of the demolition for the new bathroom and I'm pretty confident that he will be be able to do a lot of the sheetrocking and mudding as we proceed to put things back together. The shower base is in 60" x 35". It looks really big. When we get too old and weak to stand in the shower, there is plenty of room for a chair. We had make some changes in the walls in both bedrooms so that will take some doing to get everything back together. It will be a lot of painting and I HATE to paint.
    The scale is still hovering around 195#. Not good as I was down to 175# last year at this time. Here's to working harder and being more dedicated to my health.

    Robin- I am still here just trying to get back to checking the boards daily. Thank you for the prayers.

    Kelley- I hope the migrants go away and that the doctors can figure out the cause.

    Karen- I am so happy that you can be with your friend. The hardest day for me was the day after the funeral when everything started to settle down and it was quiet at home. Your friend will need you after the the funeral and in the weeks to come.

    Kaye-Happy to hear that your DH is improving and back to working on the house. That is great news.

    I must say that I am happy to be back to work but it is also hard dealing with the expressions of sympathy. I am fine if it is quick but when it drags out, I need to stop myself from getting emotional. I know that once I start crying it won't stop. Otherwise I am doing fine and getting caught up at work.

    I am back to making better food choices and trying to eat a salad at least once a day.

    @SaleemahR - hi and welcome! Some of us may "friend" you but this is more of a place where you should return and continue to post both those successful weight losses - congrats on that 6 lb. loss you've had btw - but you can also come here if your discouraged - then we are extra helpful! We all spend more time here than on our home pages, I think.... so come back, we'd love to see you again :smiley: And I agree with your assessment, at your height you would look great at 180, and probably too skinny at 150!

    @Kah (Kelley) My sincerest sympathies for you - ugh long term migraines I've had them too and still take medication for them. I ended up after seeing several specialists being seen by a neurolgist and having some studies done an he decided for some reason that the medicine Topirimate would work for me. He had to adjust the dose but it ended up working and I've been on it for 2 decades. I take it before bed. I have had a migraine only when I've missed a few doses in a row, and then paid for that mistake. Best of luck to you getting your answer swiftly.
    Also, how bad is your tension (not neck) but inner tension - stress over not being able to heal that heel faster. That carries tons of weight against all blood vessels - constricting the tiniest blood vessels in the brain; also the scalp, so consider a massage of the scalp, neck and shoulders.

    @Niki - If it was me, I would put my money on the increase in protein for causing the decrease in appetite and that's led to the decrease in eating those bits of bread thus less carbs in. Higher protein always results in a decrease in appetite for me. Its almost like the golden rule for how to curb the munchies for me. I couldn't believe myself tonight. I fixed 2 brats, ate both in 1 bun, then didn't have any treat tonight ( very rare) until I ate one tiny lil clementine. Tomorrow is a tangerine day :smile:

    @rachelmarie - your tiny icecream sandwich -almond milk - what was the brand name - it sounds like a Good treat.

    @Mikaiten - good to see you. Statistics often help keep a person in line. - do you find they help you? So do you think you'll ever use the other tracker to track the current tracker, hee hee?

    @Kaye - didn't mean to shake you out of your renovation but it is nice to see you posting ! Gosh, its neat to see how much work your dear hubby is up and about and responsible for - and you, Missy - that painting! It isn't the roller part, is it - its that darned edging and trim work. So this bathroom has big windows? Nice breeze? When do you expect to have it finished - ah the end date - that's when the fun starts, and that nice hot shower, new towels all come together.

    @RobinsEgg - The stats are definitely helping to keep me active. I like to see how moving more or working out affects my sleep, and trying to make sure I hit 7,000 steps each day is a big motivation for me right now. I'm aiming for 10,000 daily, eventually. And yes, I am totally tracking them against each other. ^_^ I wore both yesterday and was constantly comparing the step count. It looks like they are about 50 steps apart, which isn't too bad. I'm using the lower number to be safe with the calorie count.

    @rachelmarie1 - Those mini ice cream bars sound really yummy. I wonder if they sell something like that near me... I think it would make a nice treat for the end of a long busy day.

    Friday Fitness: I'm heading to the gym for the second time this week. I'm feeling more confident in going there, and I have my whole workout routine mapped out in my head so the anxiety doesn't stop me from going. I think I might do a bit more cardio today because I'm supposed to go out with a friend later tonight and we always have a couple drinks with our dinners. We are going to a new place that I'm not sure has the healthiest food, but I'm going to try to find something that won't send my calories through the roof.

    @Laurie ~I’m glad to hear you are trying to get back into a routine; it will help you through this transition. You and your mom have been through a lot with your dad over the last few years, so it will be a hard adjustment to the new “normal.” Just take it one day at a time and be there for each other. :heart:

    @RobinsEgg (Ellen)~Thanks. Yes, there is quite a bit of stress in my life right now—grad school and preparing for a software certification exam in May, so I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself. I may think about a trip to the spa for a mani/pedi and massage. My doc does have me on an rx NSAID to help relieve some of that tension and is starting me on a different migraine prophylaxis that he wants me to take before bed—it’s an old medication but he’s hopeful it will work (he’s just concerned about it causing drowsiness the next day). He wants to send me for an MRI, too, I’ve been resistant but looked this morning and the last one I had was over a year ago so I’ll probably give in.

    When I had surgery last year I put these slip resistant pads, that were clear and looked like stones, in my tub that had little suction cups on the bottom—I liked them because they weren’t permanent. I found them at Bed, Bath and Beyond if there is one in your neck of the woods—there were 5 or 6 in the package for around $6 I think.

    @rachelmarie1 ~Ooh, I need to look for almond milk ice cream sandwiches! I’ve tried almond milk ice cream by So Delicious and it was delicious! :lol:

    @mikaiten ~Kudos to you for not letting gym anxiety get to you. I promise everyone there is just into their own thing—it will get easier and easier to go. Once you make it a routine, you’ll find you miss it if you don’t go. :smile:

    AFM~Its Friday! It’s been a really busy week, tonight I intend to relax and catch up on my DVR—maybe with a glass of wine or two. Going to be a beautiful day too, around 80!

    Friday - Fitness (what are you doing to get fit? How are you preparing for weekend eating?

    Hmmm, I honestly haven't been working out. Been getting into the routine of logging again and watching what I eat. My goal is to go for a nice long walk tonight with my kid and my dog though. :)

    @rachelmarie1 - I plan on enjoying a nice salad with all the works. I think I earned it this week with my workouts and counting calories.

    Going shopping for a trip with my family! Going on a 16hr bus ride to Michigan!! My plan is to bring some carrots and dip, some boiled eggs, and I found a good recipe for granola bars. Thinking about bringing some fruit cups and rice cakes depending on how many calories is in each. Would love some feedback on whether you think it's a good idea, and whether I should omit or add anything. Unfortunately I won't be too active but I brought a fitbit so I can track the calories that I burn throughout the day.

    Hi all, Just stopping by for a quick check in. My husband informed me last evening that he had accepted an invitation to a semi-formal party this Saturday evening. It is a retirement celebration for someone he works with. I'm happy to go, but my brain went in to minor panic mode when it got to the "what am I going to wear" part. Luckily the last time I purged my closet, I did NOT give away the fancy dresses purchased for various fund raisers and galas over the years, even if they didn't quite fit. I immediately went to the bedroom and started going through my options. All but one of the dresses now fit, one was too big, and I was able to find one that I really like for tomorrow! I do need to go find shoes, but at least I have a dress!

    I've been trying to step things up at the gym a little - kicking up the mph on the treadmill and sticking around to do some weights afterwards. I'm hoping to finish the 5k in March a bit closer to 45 minutes than my usual hour. And I've got to shave off at least two more minutes per mile by October in order to keep up with the rest of my team in the half marathon. Looking forward to a nice five mile walk outside tomorrow since the weather man is promising near 60 degrees and sunny!

    That's a long bus ride, even if you have a cooler I'm not sure I would bring any snacks that require refrigeration. The granola bars are a good idea, along with carrots (maybe minus the dip). For additional protein snacks bring stuff like turkey jerky or smoked turkey sausage sticks (like the kind by Butterball), almonds, pistachios and/or cashews. Bring some fruit like apples or the Halo's mandarin oranges, both will travel well. If you decide against making your own bars, ThinkThin has some high protein bars (20g).

    @Robin Your description of my bathroom made me smile. We live in an old house that has been added onto and remodeled many times. It has been a project house since we bought it 35 years ago. The bathroom in question is actually 9'x5' with a very small window. In order to make room for the 5'x3' shower, we have had to move a part of a wall in our bedroom 8" and change a wall in the guest room on the other side of the bathroom. It is the "master bathroom", but nothing like the ones on HG TV. I hate the mess of painting so rolling really isn't any better than the rest of it. Some of my kids don't mind painting so maybe we can get a little help. I am excited about some new accessories and decorating.

    I did a 24 hour bus trip once, and another time a 12 hour train ride. On both those trips I packed a small cooler, like the kind you put a six-pack of soda pop into, and put stuff in there along with a frozen ice pack and bottles of water to keep it cool. I too used hard boiled eggs as part of my food for the trip. Also, I made a couple of sandwiches at home and put them into zip bags and into the cooler ... salami and cheese with lettuce. A couple of small tomatoes and, because I like them, a couple of pickles. That way, the water bottles they kept the pack cool and slowly melted on the trip providing me with water. Then, I also made up a small package of stuff that didn't need to be kept cool ... like the fruit that @kah68 mentioned. For me, snack bars make me want to eat too many of them because they are too much like a cookie or a candy bar.

    Have fun on your trip. Walk a lot doing that shopping!

    That's one thing I am looking forward to ... to fit back into the dress I work at my sons' wedding back in 1993. The real final size I want to wear no longer has any clothes in storage as I finally gave them all away thinking that by the time I ever got there that they would no longer be in fashion ... and now those fashions are making a come back!

    Now that's the kind of remodel I would love to undertake at my house. My bathroom is 5x7 so I cannot even fit a decent sized sink cabinet in there! ... It's definitely built for 1.

    I have never been "regular" sized. I went straight from kid's sizes to a woman's 14 somewhere around 6th grade. I lost some weight my senior year of high school and got down to 150-160, wore a size 12 or 14 for a few months either side of graduation, but then I went to college where I discovered my abiding love of beer and pizza. If I could get back to that place now, I would be happy. That was 30 years ago!

    I'm currently fascinated by the possibility that I might soon be able to shop in some of those stores at the mall I've never entered because the only things they sell in my size are socks and earrings.

    Hi everyone. Just popping in real quick. Sorry I havent been very active this week. My cold turned into full fledged bronchitis so doing much of anything just sends me into coughing fits. I have been spending a lot of time lying down with my head over a vaporizer. Today was the first day I have left the house and just a couple short errands has left me completley tuckered. Luckily I work for my dad now so the one day I tried to say I was going to work he said if I showed up he would fire me until I was better lol. My sympathies for those who are dealing with losses right now and congrats for everyone trucking along and getting things done. Hopefully I will be able to get back to the gym next week sometime. My eating is fine but it really does take both for me to see any kind of real results. Take care all and I will ttyl. :):)

    @celtikgirl Since your post is last I can still see it and comment. I chuckled about your comment at the end about only socks and earrings fitting in most stores. I know that feeling well; just never put it that way. I love it and will remember that....UNTIL it is no longer true.
    @Kaye We once had a house with a big shower and I absolutely loved it! Now the shower in this house is MUCH smaller. I KNOW that is going to be a great renovation when it is done....but I sure get it about WHEN as I am sure it can't be soon enough. I am sure getting rid of that stress will help you be on track here. Hang in there!

    @Karen I would love to have a friend like you, actually I probably do, but never had the need to be supported in that way fortunately.
    I know I missed many of you, but I can't remember exactly who said what. Personals always work better when I bring up a "word" document and then paste it back in here. I didn't do that this time.

    AFM: I am having good days, then bad days. Half a day I am like gold then I "blow" it and eat anything that isn't nailed down. Doing okay so far today. It sort of has my weight stuck this week. There are things that are a bit stressful going on here that I won't be airing out here, but they sure aren't helping. My ankle is still sore so between that, the arthritis and the weather (northern Wisconsin) it is a bit tough to just "walk it off". Icy walks just terrify me, so I don't even walk to the mailbox unless the driveway is totally clean. (that said, we do have a treadmill, but climbing the stairs is not always easy either) Okay, maybe that is an excuse for being lazy.
    I guess I have ranted enough. I am a bit frustrated just now and on re-reading this it does seem to show. Sorry.

    PS I totally agree that keeping the protein up prevents the "hungries". I think that was a really good challenge this month, so thanks to whoever brought it up. I have been trying and on the days I meet the protein requirement I get into fewer problems. I always thought I got plenty of protein; little did I know that sometimes I was a wee bit short....never been short on carbs though oddly enough!
    Also, LaurieK mentioned earlier she is trying to get a salad in every day. I think that is another really good thing. I so often get so involved I don't quite get a salad made and then wind up eating more and too much of everything else.

    Okay, I will be quiet now.

    Hi everyone-
    I just caught up on 30 posts I missed while away for 2 days. No personals tonight, but I did want to welcome the newlings.

    Thanks for all the warm thoughts over the past couple of days. My friend's father's services were lovely with lots of people who loved him all gathered together. Needless to say they were two very long, very emotional days. They were also days with very little exercise and way too much "comfort" eating. Yesterday was snacking on sandwiches and cookies throughout the day. Today, was a full funeral lunch of delicious Polish fare like pierogis and kluski followed by leftover pasta for dinner. Oh, and more cookies. :blush:

    I agree with those who say less carbs and more protein keep the cravings at bay--at least that's true for me. Given my food choices over the past two days, all I want are more carbs right now. Tomorrow will be a fresh start and a long run. Sixty degrees here, so maybe it will be outside.

    @Barb - I'm totally sympathetic to your ankle problem...if the base is broken the statue is no good. Same for us. And you feel worthless. I'm often in the same boat. Currently I'm wearing ankle braces on both feet. It does help tremendously, but they are also fatiguing and the end of the day can't come quick enough for me, when I get to take them off.
