Get one. They are not as big of a deal as people make them out to be. They are becoming more normal and more accepted. People who have a lot of tattoos don't like at least one of them. They remind me of a time in my life. It doesn't matter if it was a stupid idea, it was what I wanted at the time and I always have that to remember. I have many visible tattoos and I have a very good job. Then there are people that say "How will you feel about that when your 70." I will be 70, who gives a crap. That is just my opinion. A lot of conservative people don't like them, but I love them. It is a way to express yourself. You will have people giving you totally different opinions, but do what you want. It isn't going to ruin your life.

Yes - if it has some type of meaning....
No - if its a picture of the girl you beat to a pulp....

Tattoos are awesome, especially when they have significant meaning. Is there a way to post photos in a topic reply? Itd be cool to see everyone's work

    Do it!!!!!!!!
  • Small and meaningful, yes. For the sake of it, or something you'll grow out of, no. Really it depends on the person for me. I have a few I would like to get but not the guts to sit through being stabbed with a needle (or it must be said, the funds) but I love some of the beautiful ones my friends have.

Something to consider is that not all jobs allow visible tattoos. I work for a company like that. You can't have visible piercings or tattoos - even on the ankle/wrist. I work in a hospital, and sometimes you have to have your hair up, but still can't show tattoos. You would need to cover them with bandages. So that's something to think to about. If you ever want to join the corporate world and move up, then visible tattoos could be a disadvantage.

I think that view is changing. I have 8 and working on the 9th one (is started, but not completed) and I work in Corporate Information Technology.

I have only worked for 1 company where I had to wear 3/4 length or long sleeves and could not show any tattoos. Working where I work now is very lenient and I show mine all the time.

It's all about personal preference. I have tattoo's and some people love them. Some people...like my dad hates them because he doesn't get it. lol.

If you like it, go for it!!

If you REALLY think you can live with it, get it! I have one and I love it! It's been almost 10 years and I'm not sorry. In fact, I want a couple more. But, it's not visible to the general public, so that may make a difference as well. IF you get one, make sure you can stand to live with it.

I'm not a fan of tattoos minus the few who can really pull it off. However, I am considering a small one myself, I just don't know where I'd put it. I should be easy to show, but hideable for special events.
  • I have two and they're definitely not the last. They both represent something significant to me so I am very proud to have them. I did get them in places I can hide them though. It's just fun to know you have something fun or sexy when others don't.

I've been wanting one for a long time, but never really been able do decide on something I'd feel comfortable having on my body permanently. I'm seriously considering getting one if--WHEN--I pull of my weight-loss!

Mos def. Just get them placed in areas which can be easily hidden so you can have a professional career if desired. Thus, hands, lower arm/legs/hands (primarily women), neck, etc. should be avoided. I have 9 and practice law.
  • no they are so trashy. don't do it.

Do what you want, as getting a tattoo is a personal decision. I personally have 3 of them, one one the top of my right foot, one on the inside above the instep of my left foot and one on my left wrist.

All can be hidden if need be, but all three are significant to me.

I am planning a 4th one, as all my other tattoos have some sort of writing in them, I just want one that is a picture description of something meaningful.
  • Tattoos are a beautiful thing, I got my first one last year and am about to get my second one soon. Trust me, if your tattoo means something, you will never regret it.
  • When we were children we drew on ourselves. Now that we're adults......
  • I love em. I have 4 and working on saving up for my fifth. My first one is on my stomach, its an orange lily with a tribal. It came off the wall though and has no meaning, I will probably get it covered eventually. I have a heart I designed and "Love" on my wrists, respectively. I got those for my dad, who committed suicide. And on my left chest/shoulder area I got 9 birds, for my cousin who died this past spring. My next one I'm getting is lyrics from my husband and I's song, on my left side/rib area.

Don't get something you will regret, it needs to have meaning. Go to a reputable shop. And make sure you're job allows them, if it is to be seen. You can see 3 of my 4 and although it's in the government sector, they don't care. Some more professional places require them to be covered so you might think about that as well. I love all mine though and don't regret any of them. Even my first one, it's what I wanted at the time and I knew i could always cover it up with something in the future.
  • no they are so trashy. don't do it.

To some maybe, but to each is own. They can look tasteful too. So I would speak for yourself.

I love the way they look but don't have any of my own because my husband doesn't like how they look on women and I want him to keep eyeballing me when I show some skin.

Personally I believe that if it's something you want you should go for it. However, my company was hiring a new person in the office and in checking her background they found a picture on Facebook of her posing showing her tattoos. She was no longer considered for the position based on that one picture, even though they never saw them when she was professionally dressed for the interviews. Moral of the story is to be sure you can live with them if you get them.

I have been a mortgage banker and now an account executive. I have 9 different tats and honestly most people I know whether they practice law, doctors, preachers have them. It's a personal preference. If you want it go for it. A tat doesn't define you..unless it's on your face..lol

My picture is out dated, that's from 10 years ago, I now have a full sleeve, a half sleeve and some smaller pieces. If anyone asks "should I get a tattoo" i say "no" simply because if you have to ask then you are not sold on the idea. A tattoo is something that is on you FOREVER if you don't know exactly what you want or feel you might regret it then don't do it. If you are worried about what other people think then definitely don't get one because there will always be haters.

The choice is yours, no one else can make it for you but think it through first and make sure it's something you really want not just a passing trend.

I say go for it. I have 9 tattoos, one on my ankle (best friend has the same one), love on my wrist, butterfly on the back of my neck (for my daughter), my maiden name down my spine, 2 dragons on my ribs (I love dragons), a phoenix on my left wrist, his/her skull with flames lower back (for my husband and I), and my daughters name going down my upper left arm with pictures to represent the 4 elements of life. I've wanted tattoos since I was 16 and didn't get my first one until I was 28 or so. I realized I've always wanted them and once I got the first one, I couldn't stop. I work in the medical field and there the only one I have to keep hidden is the phoenix, which I just use an ace bandage wrap for now, but might buy some bracletts or something. I'm able to show the other one on my other wrist because it's smaller, just over a 1/2 dollar in size. I don't have any regrets and I will eventually get more. If you truely want one, especailly if you've wanted one for a while, then go for it. Make sure you do your research too.

I have one and Yes, in my opinion. Depends what it is... and the meaning behind it.
