Age difference in relationships

I'm 41 and my husband is 52 (although he could easily pass for 42). I don't notice a big difference unless he's talking about high school and then I think about how I was in kindergarten. Ew.
LMAO supahstar!! As long as you are happy now.0 -
I am currently dating a man that is 10 years older than me - I am 38 and he is 48. I see no problem in it!0
-
im 28. I have dated 3 years younger and 21 years older.
on reflection, whilst 21 years older was great you do have to think about wanting children etc. a 49 year old woman is probably not looking to have a child, so maybe that one was always doomed from the start. still, the love making was the most intense i've ever experienced.
older women FTW!0 -
6 years between me and my boyfriend. Started dating at 16, shrug. That's legal in the UK though, and although my parents hated him with a passion, they have an identical age gap themselves, and Mum was married at my age.0

~ If I were 2 do it again,....I'd wanna date older.(hubby & I r 4days apart)...0

Cougarita checking in....everyone's the same age laying down.....ha ha ha ...over 18 that is...lol0
-
I've always ended up with guys 3-5 years older, including my fiance. Obviously not a huge difference at this point, and it works well for us - I honestly don't think I could imagine dating someone my age or younger. Just never felt right for me.0

Our age difference didn't matter much to me.
Until we thought we might have gone to the same camp when we were younger.
He was a counselor at 21 years old, and it was my first time at camp. I was 4.
None the less, I wouldn't trade him :drinker:0 -
I have dated 5 years younger, and 2 years older. Never mattered much to me. Its all about the person.0

My husband is 9 years younger than me (at my age now, that makes me a cougar lol).
He was 19 when I met him...I was 28. I swear I thought he was older and then after a year of dating, I saw his drivers license for some reason. Well, by that time I was hooked and had to decide whether or not we should keep seeing each other (I say he lied to me about his age but he swears up and down he didn't...he just never mentioned it).
We've been together now for 17 years....the age difference didn't mean a thing. He is the love of my life....I doubt there will be anyone else for me.
This is similar for me. I've always been attracted to younger guys but I've dated guys same age to 5 years older. But I've been married a year to my husband and we are about 9 years apart. We met online when he was a month shy of turning 18 and I was 26, within weeks of turning 27. (His bday is Aug 24, mine is July 30). Now I'm 29, he is 20 and it was the fastest growing relationship I've ever been in.
I won't go into all the details but after a year, it feels like we've known eachother forever. We are just so in sync and I can't imagine my life without him.0 -
I was 22 and dating a guy that was 39. We were together for 5 years. Mostly it was a good relationship. Sadly though, I wanted kids and he could have anymore (he already has 2 and they are HORRIBLE). We split on good terms and are still friends. Now I am married to a man that is almost 7 years younger than me. We have been married 3 1/2 years and have a 1 1/2 yr old and are expecting our 2nd. I feel that everything happens for a reason and if you are meant to be in a relationship with someone regardless of age, gender, race, ect then it will happen, even if it isn't meant to be forever but for the time being. Maybe to help you learn something or get through a specific time in your life.0

When I was 19 I dated a man 7 years older than me. Now I am married to a man who is 7 years younger.0

Hello, I am Monica, there is nothing wrong with age difference in relationships, I am 15 years older than a guy I just started dating it and have never been happier....... I never thought I would say this but he is understanding, more mature....the whole nine yards....... making me feel like a lil girl again......0

Let me run this by Legal Counsel before I respond.0

Biggest difference...I was 20, he was 52. Didn't last.
My man is 7 years older than I am and I think it's perfect for us. I don't feel the difference at all.0 -
http://xkcd.com/314/ so according to this, if your the oldest, half your age then add 7, if your the younger, take off seven then double it. Kinda makes sense....0
-
I think in and around 10yrs personally is the max I would consider, but then again if you really click and love the person, and it's legal. Age is just a number.0
-
You have totally made me feel better! My name is Monica, I have been single for 5 years... met the man of my dreams, totally mature but I am 15 years older than him, why am I worried about what other people think? MY goodness.0
-
My husband is 9 years older than me. I was 33 when we met, he was 42. We hit it off, and have been married almost 8 years... at some point, age doesn't make a big difference... he acts like a kid most of the time anyway :-)0
-
When I was born, my mom was 18 and my dad was 48. So, yeah, I have nothing against the age difference thing seeing as it's why I'm alive today. lol0
-
I've dated 4 years younger up to 10 years older. I prefer older.0
-
I was 8 years older than my last boyfriend. It didn't work, because I had kids of my own (who he loved and adored) and couldn't have more and he wanted kids of his own. This was not discussed upfront. Current age difference - my husband is a year and a half older. It has nothing to do with age....0

In sociology in college we learned that there is a "rule' persay, about age gaps. Take your age, divide it by two, and then add seven, and that's the youngest person you should consider dating. So a 22 year old should never date someone younger than 18, and a 60 year old could date a 37 year old.
It means that when you're a young 22 you shouldn't be dating people that are that much older or younger than yourself because one year can change a lot of things in a person, but when you're sixty, it's not that much of a different because of relativity of time.
Obviously this isn't a hard and fast rule, but I think that the concepts in general make sense. I'm currently seeing a guy who is 29 while I'm 22, so we're at the end of the spectrum, but I crave maturity, so there you have it.0 -
I'm 14 years older than my wife...she's the youngest of 5, her oldest sister is two years younger than me...we think that's why we never notice a difference.
Plus I'm surprisingly immature and she usually keeps me in check...
P.S. That's our daughter, not my wife in my profile pic...0 -
I have a similar situation....as the woman you speak of. I was 41 when I met my future husband - he was 28 but he never told me. We got along amazingly and our relationship was outstanding and then I found out he was only 28. I nearly lost my mind over that. I didn't want to be with someone so young...yet I already had strong feelings for him. We ended up staying together and some months later I became pregnant with our daughter and gave birth to her at 42.... I am now a happy healthy 53 year old Mom of a 10 year old daughter and he is one proud Papa about to turn 40 .....I can't say that there were all easy times...but It has so been worth it. Married now 10 years and wonder where I would be today if I had rejected the relationship because of his age! My mom and dad were 11 years apart so I grew up with this all of my younger years. My father lived to be 91, my mother is 84 now still living. You have and she has a lot of living to do....Worry never ever got me anywhere .....but you know what did??? Love...it is the greatest thing in life that ever happens to us. I will say a prayer for you....your asking everyone there advice because this is bothering you. I pray God shows you the answer and either opens or shuts the door regarding the relationship!! I send my thoughts and a hug!!0

When I was around 20, I dated a guy who was around 40, but had a long term thing with a guy who was 13 years older.
My husband is 6 1/2 years younger than me...first younger guy I ever went out with...go figure! :ohwell:0 -
The biggest age difference was 7 years for me. I was 23 and he was 30. We felt the age difference pretty badly. We were both geeks but we were geeky about different things and just couldn't connect very well.
I don't believe that was actually caused by our age difference though. It was definitely more of a maturity level. Sadly, I was vastly more mature than he was.
The man I'm with now is 4 years older than me. We're perfect together.
I don't like dating men younger than me. I've only actually been out on one date with a younger man. It was a disaster. I'm pretty sure it was his first date ever and all I could think was that I would wind up eating him alive.0 -
I think you should stand by your decision. Can a 40 give birth to a perfectly healthy child? Of course, but the FACTS show that many risk increase for mother and child once a mother is 30 years or older. Same reason why my husband and I have said that how ever many children we want, we have to have before 30. Not just due to this, but because my husband has seen what its like 1st hand to have older parents and the things they miss out on, and their lower energy levels. I think if your older and can pop those bad boys out, all the power to ya, but facts are facts.0

My boyfriend was 5.5 years older than me. We started dating when I was 19 and he was 24. It worked, but I think the younger you are, the more noticeable an age difference is.0
-
The largest age gap in one of my relationships was almost 10yrs. (When I was almost 21 she was 30). Prolly the best relationship I have ever experienced. We are the best of friends though post breakup. I can count on her for anything.0
