I dont think its a big deal it is natural, however with society being the way it is just expect people to be iffy about it or have issues thats just the way some people are.

Oh and I'm sure it would be considered criminal to get boobs out in some places.
Not sure about in the UK/US. Actually, a quick look on google suggests that in some places in some circumstances it certainly is illegal in the US.

Breastfeeding in public is not illegal anywhere in the United States. It is not *protected* everywhere, but it is not expressly prohibited anywhere.

Getting your boobs out to indecently expose yourself is illegal, getting your boobs out to do what they're intended to do and feed your child, of whom is MUCH more important than any tosser on the street, is not.
Google suggests that is not the case for all areas. Didn't look in to it in a massive amount of detail.

the breast is not a breast anymore, its just a food source. Period !!!
That may be how you view it. But I'm afraid writing 'period' with full stops after it does not make it any more true.
Obviously it is still 'a breast'. And for one reason or another, a lot of people in society don't like that.

Oh and yes; in various cases I have found that I have HAD to urinate in a fairly public place. I'll generally find somewhere out of the way to do it, because I know some people are offended by it - for instance the other week in a car park in Manchester I went around to some bushes where nobody could easily see rather than just by the wall.
(Big bottle of drink in the car and previously being sat in traffic bored not a great combination.)
I'm not debating and I don't really care about your feelings. I'm not trying to win any hearts and minds. Until you have offspring that are being breastfed by their mother, you're not going to understand and I don't expect you to. Breastfeeding moms involuntarily lactate when they hear a baby cry. They have zero control over it. Fathers have an instinctual need to protect their family. If you want to be a master debator or an e-thug on the internet that's fine, just don't do that in person, or if you do make sure the husband isn't around. I couldn't hold back the urge to beat your *kitten* anymore than I could hold back getting a boner watching porn. With as many people around with CWP's these days, you could very likely get a gun in your face.

My kids ate on demand, wherever we were. Neither of my girls ever had formula...so this went on until they were each at least 1 year of age.

People need to get over it already and yay for her for posting a pic. I am now tempted to post one of my little one sucking away on boobie friday

Thinking of comparing breastfeeding to sex? bad move. ..... which is criminal sexual conduct, in a public place makes it indecent exposure.
QFT! Anyone who compares nursing in public to screwing in public needs therapy.....seriously.
Any two things can be compared.
Though, I wasn't specifically comparing the things, it's others that are trying to do that.
Just that if you use the answer for one question, then you can for another question. If you don't think that justifies the other question, then it very much puts the basis of the answer in question it's self.

Oh and I'm sure it would be considered criminal to get boobs out in some places.

Just because you compare two things doesn't mean that the comparison makes any sense. It's like saying I'd rather drive a porche than a skyscraper. See . . . doesn't make sense.

I'm not nursing anymore, but I will when I have my next one and I'll start feeding my kid in the ****ter at a restaurant when you start taking your meals there as well.

And, nursing in public is not considered indecent exposure and persecuting those that do has great recourse.

I don't think there is anything wrong with posting a pic of her feeding her baby. I personally wouldn't do it. But it's her choice.

Peeps just need to relax. If you want to be ultra conservative and religious, "We are fearfully and wonderfully made", so why are you getting your knickers in a twist? Breastfeeding is how God designed that we should take care of our progeny, it's not dirty, it's not sexual, and it certainly is has nothing in common with excreting waste... A) No smell. B) no mess. C) you my friend need therapy.

If you don't want to be ultra conservative and religious about it, gimme a break, its a natural biological function that is completely clean and does not have any ties to anything lewd or inappropriate. Again, untwist the knickers and move along.

That being said, for my own modesty, I would likely through a blanket over my shoulder should I be nursing in public, not because I feel like it is the proper thing to do, but because of my own sense of modesty.

In a world where girls walk around with half their *kitten* cheeks hanging out of their shorts and that is perfectly okay, I can't believe people have issue with this. Boggles my mind really.

I think exposing yourself in public is kinda gross, even if there is a cute baby involved. If you think about it, a lot of things are natural but you shouldn't do it in front of the world. Would you change the baby's diaper on the table at a restaurant? NO So why are you whipping out your breasts?....Just common decency to me....

Yes, breastfeeding is private. But unfortunately for everyone who doesn't like "seeing it" in public, sometimes babies GET hungry in PUBLIC. At any rate, I bottle feed mine, even though I wanted to breastfeed, I couldn't. No one creates a ruckus of fuss over her eating from her bottle in public. To me, it's just a baby eating. If we let our kids go hungry we get turned in for neglect, don't we? And Mom's can't stay hidden in their homes 24/7.

It falls under the "I don't give a ****" category. I don't want to see it, but I can skip on by as well.

My personal comfort level was to go in another room to feed my baby. I wasn't even comfortable with a blanket or cover.

The only time I've been uncomfortable in public was when I had my 13 year old son at dinner, and a patron in the next table was feeding a child that could easily eat table food (and walk and talk!), and he kept popping his head off to sit up and look around, and my son just gawked.

I breastfed my son for 7 months.... while I totally get that its natural and needs to be done and there is nothing shameful in it --- I wouldn't post it for all the world to see. Why? Same reason that I covered us up when in public with a blanket. Just because its natural and beautiful blah, blah, blah the whole world doed need to see my ta-tas.

Not to mention when my son is older I doubt very much he will appreciate pix of his mouth clamped down on my girls floating around on the internet.

    Just sayin...

I do understand your discomfort with that situation. A teenage boy, an exposed breast, it's expected that he would be interested. But that could have been a great learning tool for you and your son. For one, he could learn that it's bad manners to stare. And for another thing, it would be a good time to talk about nursing, what breasts are made for, the health benefits of breastfeeding, etc. That way, if he grows up and gets married and has children, he has a frame of reference for that. It could be a good thing instead of a shameful thing.

Lots of people put up photos of their babies eating. Not seeing the issue.

I'm not saying it's an ISSUE. I'm asking for opinions on it because I'm curious.

And I gave my opinion. It's a photo of a baby eating. No big deal.

agreed, especially if its not gratuiyous(sp)

Providing said people don't have a problem with other similarly naked breasts appearing in similar positions, I have no problem with it.
If they do, I reserve the right to shout 'hypocrite' and 'get real' :).

Yes! Couldn't have said it better myself.

there will always be ingorance in the world. period.

and for those that are ignorant to knowing whom I'm referring to...it's the ignorance of thinking that a woman feeding her child is equal to any other act that should be kept behind closed doors. I see more skin on facebook and on MFP profile pics than anyone ever sees while I bf my child. I will bf my child at ANY dinner table whether it is in my home or in a restaurant, if you think she should eat in a bathroom, then you will be joining us. I personally don't like to watch slovenly people shoving nasty food into their mouths at the restaurants, but I can't do anything about that. As a NICU nurse, certified lactation consultant and mother, I am constantly battling the stigma attached to doing THE BEST THING you can do for your child!!! Americans are soooo far behind in the normalcy of this simple thing.

How could it be "gratutious?" Baby is eating. I have yet to see a woman just sitting around naked while nursing her baby and posting pictures of it. And I've seen a LOT of nursing women, in public and on Facebook. I have a lot of "crunchy" friends.
