I LOL at the "I lift a bit" part. You are one of my role models for lifting heavy!

Wow, you are a poster girl for weights, fantastic work :) Super impressed

Yes, I lift heavy, and yes, I am bulky... but that's just because I started out even bulkier! I bike ~1 hour a day because cycling is my main form of transportation, and since the beginning of January I've been lifting heavy three days a week.

This was taken after I'd been lifting for about a month (I also did 5 weeks of kettlebell classes in November)
    FNBnIqn.png

    I'm doing NRL4W. Today I deadlifted 3x8 150lbs, and the other day I squatted 3x8 135lbs.

    RIght back at ya!
  • I like to think I lift heavy but that is all relative. I'm 5'5", weigh about 120-125 lbs and can lift the following:
    squats: 125lbs
    deads: 120lbs
    chest press: 70lbs
    shoulder press: 30lbs dumbells*2 = 60 lbs.

I dont have a pic to post here but my main profile pic is recent! taken only about 2 weeks ago. I should note that I haven't been lifting for very long (about 3 months) and that the weights I mentioned above are goals that I only just recently attained!

    Show me.

I've seen a random increase in the "Lift low weights, high reps to avoid bulky" posts. I would like to perform a quick survey of women.

Do you "lift heavy", meaning 4-10 reps as heavy as you can for 3-5 sets? (4-6 reps is good for strength, 8-10 for size, by the way). I'd like to see pictures in "street clothes" without flexing. Some people get confused thinking flexing and/or muscle definition = bulk. Also, I'd like some examples of how much weight you lift.

    I'll go first:

This is my husband and I on Halloween.
    425850_4906050212934_109376580_n.jpg

    I can squat 135lbs for 4 reps, bench 110lbs also for 4.

i want to bench 110... i'm only at like 65

    Squat: 135
    Bench: 65
    Row: 70
    Deadlift: 135
    OHP: 65

I have been circuit training with a personal trainer 3 days a week for 8 weeks now for an hour and haven't lost a single pound. I am devastated! I have been eating around 1200 - 1800 calories per day (before factoring in the exercise). My trainer will not let me measure to see if I have lost inches until 3 months but I don't feel like I've lost anything and the scale isn' t budging. Very confused about this whole calorie vs net calorie thing. I ONLY eat 1200- 1800(on a bad day, not often) and that is BEFORE figuring in calories burned from JUST the circuit training. I feel cheated. I have put in so much hard work and eaten good unprocessed food with no results. Advice please? I will add that I am overweight and have over 50 lbs to lose so I don't understand why the changes I have made aren't working, or are they?

I would make your trainer let you measure. 8 weeks is enough time. I didn't lose a single lb the first 6 weeks but I lost inches everywhere (except my legs- they took longer). Also 1200-1800 is kind of a big range, unless you're zig-zagging it might help to pick a target and be a nit more consistent. I lost my weight at 1650 before exercise, and ate all my exercise cals.

I'd venture to say a lot of us didn't "lose pounds" (at least probably not a lot) from lifting, either. Here's a link to a group where they answer questions like yours if you are interested in what they have to say. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/10118-eat-train-progress

I agree with Bean though, big calorie window.

Only about a 10 pound difference... So stick with it!!! You should be noticing changes but it takes time. If your trainer just isnt cutting it for you after a few months, then get a new one. :)

    Yes, I lift heavy.

I am not even close to being considered bulky. I'm the furthest thing from it!!!
