Lifting heavy...before i started....
during and currently....i am now 5'11" and these pics after between 175 and 185 pounds

This thread (and all others like it) IS awesome - wayyy too awesome - because it really demonstrates to those quietly lurking how important it is TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT in the forums. Sometimes these people get labeled forum bullies because they have little patience for nonsense. But these ladies can back up their advice with RESULTS!!
We all started somewhere and most of us have been, at some point in our lives, scared to lift weights because of the perpetuating bullchit that circulates. The women in this thread were brave enough to say HMMM, IMMA TRY THIS! As opposed to trying raspberry keytones and no/low-carb diets, we tried some iron "supplements" and protein....and you can see where that got us. And we're only gonna get better. SO COME JOIN US!!! STOP LURKING!!! Any one of the ladies pictured in this thread is more than willing to help you get started!!!
And to all who have posted - seriously, I would go through and comment all of your pics - (and annoy the crap outta ya with my quotes) but you girls look phenomenal!!! I am so motivated to kick some butt today at the gym and keep going hard. :flowerforyou: Much love to the lady lifters!0 -

What Dizzle said... I didn't join here with any exercise goal beyond "be able to run a 5k." I didn't even think I'd lose weight. I thought, "This is my body at 38 (at the time), and it's not so bad." Weight lifting was never on my radar. I wasn't afraid of bulking, because I knew that it takes a LOT more than anything I'm willing to do to end up like, for instance, Chyna Doll. But I didn't think weight lifting would make that much of a difference for me. I wasn't afraid I'd look manly, but as someone without much boobage, I was afraid I'd look boyish.
Well, the weight loss happened. (Hey, look... normal clothes for a change!)
And I don't think I'm in danger of being mistaken for a boy. Even without boobies. (Same weight in both photos!)

It is never to late to start. I am 45 and only started lifting in the strength rep range about 10 months ago. No matter what rep range however, strength training of some kind is very important, especially to women, and especially as you get older due to risks of osteoporosis - plus, it makes you feel like a bad@ss.0 -

These pictures are from a few weeks ago. I'm currently nursing a pulled rib muscle so on a lifting break but as of a few weeks ago I was doing:
squats - 4x5 @ 120
deadlifts - 4x5 @ 125
OHP - 4x5 @ 60
chest press - 4x5 @ 75
So not really all that "heavy" but was steadily increasing. No leg pics yet.

This is very true! The feeling I get from lifting weights can't be described! Especially when I am leg pressing 250 with ease and the guy after me does only 100....So many other examples like this. I wish more women would get into weight lifting. It really changed the composition of my body.0 -

Yep, Maria. it's a cheap thrill but...oh such a thrill. I asked some dudes who were taking turns curling one day if they were going to use 2 45 lb plates that were near them but not in use yet and they looked at the leg press I already had loaded with 180 lbs and said "You need more than that??" It was one of the best things ever.0 -

I lift, though I wouldn't say I lift "heavy" - I do weekly progression, starting new weight at 7 reps and working up to 15 for 3 sets, and an alternating up/ low split (currently squatting about 275, if my math is right, after several months of a routine through which I lost a lot of strength, I'm just getting back to my weights. My deadlifts and bent rows and stuff are depressing now. BOO)
I do a little cardio (not a focus).
I'm 5'8", and around 140.
And that's me in my profile pic. I don't think I'm bulky. In fact, I lost a bunch of pants sizes when I started lifting.

I missed giving some "you look amazing" comments last night! Every gal in here is looking fantastic and is a mad testament to the fact that lifting more than 8 lbs will not make you grow a weenie.

I don't have any recent pics in street clothes, but here is before heavy lifting and last month's progress picture. I am due to take new pics this weekend, but wanted to go ahead and throw this in the thread. I do compound barbell lifts as heavy as I can, three times a week, walk on the treadmill for "cardio" a couple times a week. I am 5'6.5, I am so "bulky" that my co-workers think I weight about 15lbs less than I actually do.
All you ladies are super inspiring! A thread like this is what got me into lifting weights last year!0
