    Well when I was married.... Because Valentine's Day fell right after all the holiday spending and 3 weeks before our anniversary, we made it a $10 challenge - that was the cap on what we could spend on each other, and we would have dinner at home. Balloons, lottery tickets, candy bars, chips n salsa, cards, were some of the things we came up with. It was fun while it lasted....

    It is very sweet of you to ask. For me, no chocolates (though I love them - but I am trying to lose weight!) or flowers (allergies, besides they're dead in a week). A really great gift is a spa gift certificate. There is nothing like getting a few hours of pampering to make me feel relaxed and loving. I also love to go out for dinner somewhere nice (employees don't wear paper hats and name tags!)

    Something which shows that he's put a lot of thought and effort into choosing. We've agreed not to spend much as we're trying to save for a car + house, and it's not an important holiday for us (we show love all year round), so it gives us the opportunity to be a bit more creative. To think outside of the usual valentines gifts, and find or create something maybe quite simple but shows how much he listens. That's the sort of thing I've got him anyway.

    Attention. Acting like I know what I'm doing. Thinking I am special. If I had a choice between a platinum ring with diamonds in it, and a guarantee of a year where at least every week he'd say "Tell me about X" (when "X" is something I love, care about, or do well) and he'd be interested in the answer, I'd pick that second one in a New York minute.

    God, that sounds so pathetic.

    one year, my bf drew on the walls of the bedroom... a window with eiffel tower outside. He played french music, candle lit the room, got me flowers and chocolates..... told me he knew I wanted to go to paris but he couldnt' afford it so he brought paris to me.

    That was my favorite valentines ever.

    A card and a single flower would be nice. Kind of hard to get out to a "romantic" dinner with 2 kids in tow even though they are a little older now.

    Surprise her with a couples massage. Or if you go out for dinner, you make dessert and have it waiting at home. Or consider an activity that you do together. Perhaps make some chocolate covered strawberries and then feed them to each other.

    This is SOOOO cute! I'd never heard of it before but that would be such an awesome gift!!!

    I have been begging hubs to write something romantic for the past 5 years - I want to know how he truly feels and he has a hard time putting it into words. He finally did for my birthday. He's in Greece and sent me flowers with a love note. It was the single BEST gift I've ever gotten from him (he's gotten me Tiffany's before, and as much as I love my bracelet, this topped it for sure!).
