Monday check in- Just your normal, blah kind of day. Hard to get going after not really sleeping alot this weekend. I kind of shared all the things that have been going on with me on the previous thread.

MFP has now dropped me to 1420 calories, which is ok I guess. I'll try it and see. It's onl 20 less than what I'm eating now, so hopefully its not a big deal for me.

I have to go and act like I'm working LOL

    xoxo
    Rachael

20 cal will not make much difference. You are looking awesome so keep up the great work! and act like you are working now!

Hi everyone! I'm new here so this is my first post! I'm glad to see others who have as much to lose as I do. Is anyone here also vegetarian? (Don't worry, I'm not preachy nor judgmental - I know how good bacon tastes!!)

I am excited by this process and it seems to be working for me. I've kept up on my logging, but I need to start exercising.

I just spent a four-day weekend in Tucson Arizona for a women's choral festival. It was great fun and hard work (for those of you who don't think it's cardio - you are so wrong! :-) ) I am proud that I stayed on track for the most part, very close to my calorie goal. I only went significantly over my calories for one cheat day! So I still managed to lose weight, whew!

    Hi Everyone!

I am a little behind from the weekend so I will catch up tonight while the snow is falling....Yes more snow ugh!

I wanted to share this tho...someone put it on my profile but I think it fits everyone in this group so I am sharing it with everyone.

BEAUTIFUL PERSON AWARD! Once you have been given this award, you are supposed to paste it on the wall of other people who also deserve it. If you break the chain you nothing will happen because it's just for pure fun, but it’s always sweet to know that someone thinks you’re beautiful inside and out!

Welcome to all the new people. You'll find this is an excellent thread to make new friends and find support. I suggest you stop by frequently and participate as much as you can. Also logging your foods is an essential part of learning your new lifestyle change. Once you get good at logging your food you will learn so much about yourself, your eating habits, and where you need to cut back.

MowMow - so sorry your furbaby is being a brat. Don't let him win the battle. Put the carriage out of sight and re=assert a spot by a window as his only option for seeing outside. Don't take him for a walk until he STOPS complaining. Then it would be OK to take him out again, I think.

Karen - so sorry you're having problems with stress eating. I've recently taken up chewing gum. Trident Orange is my go to gum these days, its helpful, and keeps my jaw busy. Also, I'm finding my big breakfast of eggs, bacon and potatoes is so filling, I'm just not hungry and so don't fall prey to snacking.... I'm proud of you for continuing the FIGHT when your pooped and don't have 100% to give!

Well good morning everyone. I hope we are all starting the week off with a bang. Welcome to all the new people I saw. This a great thread for support and motivation. I Made it to Zumba gold class this morning. I am really enjoying myself. My new long term goal is to be able to move my hips like my instructor:laugh: My husbands eyes would fall out of his head. My weekend was pretty good. I had a small loss this morning but I did measurements and have lost 4.5 inches overall so am pretty happy. We finally are getting a break from the rain so the plan is to get some much needed yard work done the next couple of days. Well have a great day everyone and remember to drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

@tammy - so good to see you enjoying your new fitness routines!
@tom - I went to two mudhens games while I was visiting my parents, and thought of you! they lost both - off to a bad start this year - but it was still so much fun!
    @robin - how's the golfing going?
@kris - I like robin's advice for mowmow... he probably just needs to settle into the idea that you will take him out on your schedule... it would be so sad to lose your hiking buddy.
@kaye - so sorry about your left knee. hoping you can get some relief while you wait for the doc. :flowerforyou: maybe try glucosamine and lots of water in addition to the ice and cane?
@kelley - you've been kicking my rear on the fitbit steps, but i'm going to try to catch you now that i'm home and back into my routine,

Ok, so I officially love spring! Please don't despair, midwestern friends, it will come your way soon, with its glorious colors and endless possibilities! My scale moved up a half pound this week, but I am ignoring it for now! I went on two major hikes this weekend - ayers mountain and soapstone mountain, both only about two-mile loop trails, but the fitbit registered 30 floors and 47 floors, respectively! I needed a few breaks on the way up, but not nearly as many as I needed on my Pacific Crest Trail section-hike last September. I've also been out kayaking and biking and am sooooo looking forward to getting back to my greatest love, swimming, in only a couple months! Now I'm off for another (much flatter) hike with the doggies on the trail by my house! Keep on keepin' on!

@beth--welcome back! It makes me laugh to recall my complaining about some tiny WI hills this weekend when I read about your mountain hikes, but I can't help it--I'm a true flatlander!

@tammy--congrats on your inches lost and good luck with your hips!

@holly--I'm sorry about your snow--we've had lots of rain but at least it's starting to warm up a bit here. Today is downright gorgeous! Too bad it's supposed to cool off and rain some more this week. But beth is right--it will get here eventually. :ohwell:

@alecia--welcome! I'm not vegetarian, but I often eat meals and snacks that don't contain any meat. You're welcome to friend me and then you will be able to peek at my food diary.

@karenleona--sorry you are struggling. :flowerforyou: I liked robin's gum suggestion or maybe some sort of sugar free hard candies would help.

@helena--glad to hear deputy is doing well in puppy school. As a teacher, I always appreciate a good student!

@kvan & rachel--good to see you both back in the thread! :flowerforyou:

@kris--sorry mowmow is being a pain in the butt! I have zero experience training cats, so not sure how I would approach it. With dogs, you can just set up a normal walking routine, and they learn that crying won't help at other times. However, with a child I wouldn't give in until the whining stopped. Not sure if cats are more like dogs or kids...

@tracy--good for you for enlisting the hubs help to make your fitness class. One thing I've found many of us have in common, is we tend to have a hard time putting ourselves first--sounds like you are learning to do that.

@kaye--sorry about the knee--I don't have any new advice over that already given, but I hope the pain subsides soon.

    Monday Check-in:
Had a pretty good day at work (even though it's Monday!), and after work I walked gunner and gave blood. As I mentioned above the weather is really nice today (finally!). Tomorrow and Wed. is state testing, so I don't have to teach. Just lots of meetings and proctoring exams. Will have to be careful with calories b/c we tend to go out for lunch on these days. Need to head home (I'm at starbucks), so I will finish checking in later tonight.

Monday Check In:: Had a productive weekend. I did end up going to a chinese buffet yesterday. I logged as best I could.
Today was a better day food wise.

I logged 2hrs of walking for while I was at clinicals because usually I am sitting at a desk. Then after I got home my daughter and I took a 35min walk. So nice day :)

Going to weigh tomorrow morning and see if I had a loss.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Jtconst- It feels so good to get rid of clothes that are too big, even if they are comfy.

Kaye-, So sorry to hear about your knee and how it gave out on you. In the meantime, slack off on the walks or make them shorter. You may want to ask the PT about exercises you can do to strengthen the knee. Hope you get better soon. Great NSV with the new clothes and that are showing off your weight loss. Glad to hear that the knee is going down. Do you have a pool near your house? If so, you can walk at the pool or swim some laps using a gentle stroke-no butterfly kicks or breast stroke kicks. The water helps to take the weight off the knees. A pool is also a great place to rehab a knee- I know from experience.

Robin- Thanks for the article. The article was very informative and validates what my trainer has me doing during our workouts.

Tlh- I also enjoy water aerobic and that is a great workout. Good idea to plan the time to attend the class. I also mark off workout appointments so that nothing else interferes with my time to workout. I just need to find some more time during the week to workout.

Jack_yve-, Welcome to the group. Keep us posted on how the juicing goes.

Caramel, Welcome to the group. Combat 60 sounds like a major challenge but an interesting workout. It is good to know that your sweet tooth has left the building.

MowMow- Cats just love being outside. Do you have a porch that you can create a screened in area for him to be outside? Otherwise you may be taking more walks than planned.

    Kvandeest, Welcome back.

karenL- One day at a time and there are times that we need to take a step back and regroup mentally and physically.

AleciaG, Welcome to the thread and congrats on losing weight while at the festival. You are off to a great start.

WalkingQueen- We must have the same friend in common since the Beautiful Person Award was recently posted on my page as well. I agree that everyone on this thread deserves this award. Enjoy the snow.

To everyone on this thread- You are truly beautiful and you give so much to others in terms of friendship, understanding, sympathy, and the unconditional love that friends have for each other. Thank you for all you do to provide support.

beth- Congrats on the hike they both sound like fun.

Karen- Good luck with state testing. I usually enjoy going out to lunch with other teachers but it can be dangerous with calories.

Monday- I am feeling great today and had a wonderful workout with my trainer. The last week my weight has been dropping steadily and I hope it continues. I am concerned since TOM will be making an appearance in the next week or two and then my weight goes back up. This has been a pattern for the past year so hopefully, this month it won't happen or at least my weight will stay down. My knees felt good today which enabled me to accomplish more with my trainer during our workout.

NSV- I believe that I mentioned a couple of months ago that my trainer and I had a bet going on- the bet was that if I could run past people on the track then he would go rock climbing with me. Well- drum roll please:bigsmile:    - tonight I did just that-ran past 6 people at a 200m sprint:bigsmile:   . This was after doing a full workout including shoulder presses and lat pull downs plus a 1000 meter row in 4 min. 30 seconds. After I finished the run, I proceeded to do 31 sit ups in 1 minute. This was great workout tonight and I fully enjoyed it. It was a great challenge:smokin: :smokin: :smokin: . Mike will be climbing with me in 2 weeks, then he will discover what type of workout I do on Friday nights while climbing.

    Have a great week everyone.
Now, my goal is to exercise this week while going to after work meetings and to avoid the fast food places that mean dinner on those nights.

Hi everyone. I just found this post tonight and I am so happy to find a group of people in the same boat as I am.

I spent the weekend with my parents for their 55th wedding anniversary which was terrific, and I stayed within my calorie goals which was amazing considering my sister and mother are both chefs and neither one of them knows the meaning of low-fat. My Monday was pretty good. I got in a great workout this morning, I can walk a little longer and a little faster every day. The best part of today was running into an old family friend who I haven't seen since I started losing; she actually started crying when she saw me. She also told me that my pants were not flattering, that my shirt was too tight and it was too bad that my "boobs" were the first to go. I think she only said so things so that we would laugh and she would stop crying.

Overall it was a really good day.

Back home from Cancun and a visit with my sister (year 5 with Altzheimer's) and b-i-l. As their time share expires this year, this was my last trip there. Certainly not an exciting week for me, and a bit trying, but I was with my sis, and that's what counts. With the news from the states so grim, we spent a fair amount of time watching CNN when we weren't watching the sea..

Managed to get exercise even if food choices were less than ideal--plenty of seafood.

I had a good day today and managed a trip to the gym before heading out to work. Craving chocolate, but after weighing in, I decided willpower and not candy was called for. :grumble:

I've noticed a few new photos on this forum--your losses are showing! Congrats!

Kaye: I can identify with the knee ordeal. Sorry you've had to cut back or modify your walks. Using an elliptical and recumbent bike are probably still within your capability though. That's what I do most. Do you have access to a gym or a pool?

Lauriek: Loved your NS victory! Someday I want to do what you did, but I'm only up to a slow trot.

    Good week, all!

Welcome to all of the newlings! :flowerforyou: As others said--come back often and you will get a lot of support and motivation from this wonderful group!

@kris--that's awesome that you are making progress toward your goal! :drinker:

@marsha--nice that you got to spend time with your sister, though I'm sure it must be tough with the Alzheimer's. Are any medications working to control her symptoms? I hope you've gotten to spend a lot of quality time with her before the disease progression.

@laurie--Congrats on your NSV!! That's so awesome! I'll be curious to see if your trainer makes any adjustments to his sessions with you once he experiences the climbing workout. Lunch shouldn't be too bad. A colleague and I have already agreed on a restaurant where I know I can get a grilled chicken sandwich, but I will also splurge and get some onion rings.

@tina--I know what you mean about logging "as best you could" for the buffet. I actually skipped logging this weekend b/c there was just too much restaurant food to try to figure out the calories. Do you have your activity level set at sedentary? If so, I would definitely continue to log some exercise for the clinicals. The other option would be to change your activity level to account for the increased movement in your life.

AFM--I'm at 318 miles on my Virtual TransAmerica trail. Can't believe I've gone that far and I'm STILL in Virginia! :grumble:

On the Hobbit trail I'm on Day 33--nearing The Last Bridge and capture by the Trolls. On the LOTR trail I'm on Day 18--it's the 4th day from Weathertop and nothing exciting happening at the moment.

I'm still using the e-cig--made it through a whole weekend with my friend who still smokes. Not even tempted to have a "real" cigarette, but I probably used the e-cig a bit more while with her.

Hello! This is my first post. This is my third week trying to lose weight. Something just clicked in my head telling me it was time to change. That and a very beautiful dress I was dying for but way to big for. I was lethargic today. I went to a 13 his rock concert and didn't get to work out beside the obvious jumping and stuff. I did 45 minutes on the elliptical today and burned A lot of calories. I took a break this weekend and was allowed to eat some small portion of Chinese food. I'm trying to be able to eat the same things I usually would just in small portions. I'm trying to lose over a hundred pounds 140 would be ideal by next summer for a trip I plan on making. I have to keep telling myself to be consistent. :)

Monday check-in -- I've stayed the same this week (I'm down very slightly but not enough to register!). I'm pretty pleased with that given we had visitors, trips out and so on. Nothing stopping this week being a wonderful one.

Tuesday goal -- I am going to lose a pound this week. There, that's a nice, simple, straightforward goal. And I'm going to tidy up and progress all this paperwork. And the weather should be nice all week so I want to get down to the Lido for a long swim. That's not so many.

So, how's the fitness been going?

    Saturday: parkrun - DONE
    Sunday: badminton - er no..
    Monday: morris - DONE
Tuesday: running or Zumba -- running DONE
Wednesday: badminton -- nope glued to physics but did step while watching lectures
Thursday: running -- lots of walking
    Friday: badminton --DONE

This week has lots of morris practice as we get ready for our busiest time of the year, around St George's Day and May Day. I grabbed a black skirt from my pals' discard pile, but it needs new elastic really. I'm using my old shirt at the moment but I think I need to replace that too.

    Saturday: parkrun DONE
    Sunday: morris dancing DONE
    Monday: morris dancing DONE
Tuesday: morris dancing (it's St George's Day)
    Wednesday: badminton
    Thursday: running
    Friday: badminton

My house guests have gone home, everyone's at school and work and I have the house to myself for the first time in a month. Feels fantastic.

@Karen: I realise I haven't checked out Rivendell for *ages*. I'll catch up this week by looking at my old posts and work out where I should be. I agree with you about people at the gym who don't raise a sweat, and also those people in the pool who swim very slowly up and down while chatting. I always wonder what they think they're accomplishing.
@Tammy: Isn't it great when things you got with a plan to 'slim into' them suddenly look brilliant? And don't worry about being the most graceful person at Zumba -- everyone's just thinking about how they look like a dancing hippo while the person next to them is so much more elegant. Just rock out to the music! I think iPhones have a magnetic attraction for bodies of water. My daughter managed to drop one down the loo while *outside the bathroom* -- she tripped and it just flew in a really unfortunate trajectory.
@Kris: I saw the Dove video, and I agree that we're our own worst critics, but I also agree with the criticisms that there's a lot of both anti-fat sentiment expressed in the video, and a fair amount of cultural judgment about what 'good-looking' consists of too. None of it's intentional, it just slips out under the radar.
@Lin: Let us know how the strength training goes!
@Susan: Do please focus on what you've already achieved, and try not to beat yourself up. Starting a new job is always a really hard time for weight loss.
@tlh0407: I've been talking about a 'plateau' recently, but honestly, it's not a plateau. I've been eating a bit more and exercising a bit less, and behold! The scale does not move.
@Kelley: I can limit myself to one glass of wine as long as it's a very, very big glass.
@Robin: The first car we had looked so battered when we eventually traded it in that the dealer asked us if we'd been rallying... There's something about living in London that means you don't get every scrape fixed; your insurance would go through the roof. But the *next* car, we had from nearly-new and then sold when it was 11 years old. But we got a top of the end valeting before we sold it privately; and it looked *amazing* when we sold it; a lot of those little scrapes and bumps were very amenable to whatever magic it is they do on them.
@eBailey: are you doing a 5k in July, or something longer? If it's a 5k then you don't need to start training till mid-May, which will give you longer to get used to Insanity. If you get into the practice of taking a 30 minute brisk walk on your Insanity days off, that will set you up well for starting C25k. If it's a longer race then I'd get started now, and just don't do Insanity on your running days.
@Rachael: Really good to see an update from you! And *how brilliant* is that profile photo? You're doing so well. One of the things we have here that I love is parkrun and the Sweatshop run club -- both do weekly (or even more often) 5k runs that are *free* to enter. parkrun is global but I don't think there's much in the US yet, and Sweatshop is a British shop. But there may be similar things near you.
@Kaye: Hope your knee is on the mend.
@Laurie: I always think I've done well with the exercise, but I get tired just hearing about your workouts!

Welcome to all of the newlings! This is a wonderful thread full of wonderful people and we're all on this great, long, journey together.

    Good Morning.

@Alison~LOL, one very large glass of wine – maybe that will work.
@lmackbeth~You pulled ahead of me! I forgot to wear my Fitbit on Sunday, so my steps are really low right now.
@Laurie~Way to go with the running, great NSV! Now show off for your trainer when y’all go climbing!
@Karen~You are doing great with the e-cig. When I quit smoking (before the days of the e-cig) the hardest part for me was drinking, I don’t know what it is but whiskey and cigs just go together (there are times I still want a smoke when I drink whiskey).
@Tammy~Awesome on the inches lost, that’s better than weight lost!
@Kris~I’m sorry kitty is being such a stinker, hopefully he’ll come around. Zoe gets all worked up when I won’t let her in the garage, she just meows at that door hoping it will miraculously open.
@Holly~Are you snowed in? I heard this morning, Minneapolis got another 9” yesterday. I hope spring finds its way to MN soon!

Tuesday Goals~I have set a weight loss goal (something I don’t really do). June 23rd will mark one year since I started with my trainer, my goal is to be down 10# by then and that will mark 60# lost in a year – an average of 5# a month, which is the pace he wants me losing. Other goals remain the same, just try and eat all of my calories (with the new higher goal) and keep challenging myself. Good news is that Netflix was working better on my phone yesterday so got an episode of The Walking Dead in while on elliptical.

    Activity goals this week:

    Monday~HIIT on Elliptical DONE!
    Tuesday~Rest Day
    Wednesday~Training
    Thursday~Rest Day
Friday~Maybe none, need to get car inspected
    Saturday~Long workout bike/ellip/row or swim
    Sunday~Training

    Have a great day!

Good Morning, My knee feels pretty good this morning, but I haven't done anything yet. Yesterday I didn't try to go for a walk. I iced it a lot, too. Today I think that I will try a short walk and see what happens. I don't have access to a pool or a gym. The city pool is an outdoor pool and only open from Memorial Day until school starts in mid-August. I am hydrophobic anyway, so I don't swim. They do offer an early morning water aerobics class during the summer. I may have to get a suit and try doing that. To be honest though, if the dr. thinks I need another new knee, I will get it as soon as he can do it. That will put me down for most of the summer, but I would be ready to take the baby by the time school starts up in the fall.
The sleep specialist was very impressed with the weight I have lost. Last night I slept with an oximeter to see if I can get rid of the oxygen at night.
There are so many things that I would like to comment on, but I haven't mastered the art of remembering who did what. Know that I am reading daily and am so inspired by the successes and the perseverance through the rough patches. Karen, good job on the quitting smoking. I have never smoked, but I know that it is very addictive, and it takes real dedication to quit.
Tuesday goal: To figure how to get some exercise without irritating my knee too much.
    Have a good day. Kaye

@ Skinny- Yeah, it was the only time we went out to eat this weekend, which we usually eat out more. But my husbands friend came over and they both wanted Chinese..so Chinese it was.
Yes I have my activity level set at sedentary. I only have clinicals 2 days a week, so not going to change my activity level. I have clinicals for 6.5 hrs but usually log 2-2.5 hrs of walking. Think that's close enough? The only time I sit down is to feed the residents at breakfast and lunch.

Tuesday Goal: My goal is to keep losing and keep logging and keep exercising! I went to bed and woke up not feeling well, upset stomach. So I stayed home today. So hopefully start feeling better soon.

    Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!
