The guy's an ugly douche, but this doesn't bother me one bit. It's HIS COMPANY, he can do or say whatever the f*** he wants. Don't like it? Don't shop there. I agree with everyone else saying that Lane Bryant only sells plus-sized clothing. Big + Tall only sells clothing for larger men. I agree his attitude and approach could have been explained better, but that's not my problem. He's doing nothing wrong.
I work in a cosmetics store that primarily focuses on high-end makeup. It's in your job description to have nice makeup on at all times and feel comfortable applying it on other people. Every brand or company has an "image", an image of a certain consumer they want to target. Where I work, it's your responsibility to represent the 'brand' by looking chic and trendy and glamorous every day. That means hair, nails, and makeup done because that is what sells. They want these types of people to shop their store. If you don't look the part, nobody is going to want to buy your products.
Abercrombie + Fitch wants thin, slim, and preppy people to shop their stores. As part of that, they only hire THIN, SLIM and PREPPY people to work there. That's it. Do I agree with his 'cool' vs 'uncool' comments? No. But I won't go and walk into a Lululemon and complain that their ATHLETIC sports clothes only go up to a size 12. Or walk into Hot Topic store and complain that all they sell is band t-shirts and gothic looking pants with chains and skulls and crossbones on them. I just won't shop there! PROBLEM SOLVED!0 -

I was going to post something like this as well... I don't shop at A&F anyway, but stores like Fashion Bug and the like have basically been doing the same thing for years.0 -

Abercrombie and Fitch has decided that anyone over a size 10 jean isn’t sexy enough for their clothing line, and doesn’t want them shopping in their stores and sullying their clothes. They decided to only hire good looking people so that only good looking people will come into their store.

What about the Foundry that caters to the big and tall man? Should regular joes's be ticked they can't shop there?
The list of designers and brands that refuse to cater or even include sizes over 12 is staggering.

I agree. If they choose to ignore a good portion of the population then so be it. They obviously do pretty well if they're still in business yet I don't see people wearing their clothing.
I second this - who gives a crap? Certainly not I. Unless you work there and are being fired for not being the right size, this shouldn't effect you. Everyone is going to do something you don't like. If you complain about it, life passes you by. Private company means they can do whatever they want.

The fact that more and more stores are going "plus-sized" because of society as a whole becoming more and more overweight. When I couldn't find a pair of jeans that fit me at my favorite clothing store it was my wake up call...
They now carry that size and label it three sizes below what it's supposed to be.

I can agree with that. My wake up call was similar...they carried my size, but I had jumped 3 sizes in the span of a few months. Many tears were shed that day!

I shop at thrift stores Goodwill industries and ESPECIALLY Salvation Army stores -- where I go, they do ALL clothing designer included... only $1 jeans, jackets, coats anything and everything. - old clothing materials is usually better than new clothing materials -- as an added bonus, as I lose weight, I donate back and buy more. Thrift Shop song.

Meh......personally I couldn't afford it as a kid, so now as a 24 year old, why am i going to go and pay an outlandish price for a pair of jeans or shirt? :huh:
Also, yes we know he is exclusionary......but he is also entitled to his opinion....no matter how stupid it might sound. I don't shop at their store, so it doesn't hurt me any. :ohwell:0 -

My niece loves shopping at Hot Topic. Frankly it makes this 40 something old broad feel like a poser to go in there.
Saks caters to people with more money than me.
Lane Bryant only sells clothes size 14 and above.
Could he have worded his statement better? Sure. But I guarantee he sees a boost in sales, because bad publicity is just as good for business.
I don't get why overweight people (and yes, I'm overweight) get so up in arms when others in society express a distaste in obesity. It's not like this is a new concept folks.0 -
This is the dumbest thing they could possibly do. First of all, way to insult almost every adult who now will never shop at your store, or let their kids. Second of all, I remember when Tommy Hilfiger made a remark about only wanting certain people to wear his clothes, and it almost killed his clothing line (what a jerk). Let's all just hope they go out of business. Their clothes suck anyways.0

I was thinking this! Some stores cater for smaller sizes some for bigger. The bigger stores talk about cutting for 'real women with real curves' which I think is offensive to say a thin woman isn't a real woman. And Abercrombie and Fitch clearly cut for thin people, although I would ask the A&B CEO how he has lumped together thin-ness with attractiveness (so often not the case.
Point is, whether you're big, small, petite or tall there's always going to be a shop that doesn't cater for your size.0 -

What gets me is he point blank says he won't HIRE anyone overweight or not-attractive. He wouldn't even be able to work there. their sizes run 2 sizes smaller than they actually are and are DEF geared towards 13 to 18 year old twigs....let them have at it...such a waste of money.
I'm just glad the parent company who owns them, also owns A & E and Hollister and doesn't have idiots heading those up.
No publicity is bad publicity tho, so this right here just adds to the hype unfortunately.0
