i was pretty certain the only kind of book i like is one made of paper haha i'm so addicted. i use it multiple times every day. for all sorts of things that don't even involve books. but now i can collect as many books as i want and no one can tell i'm a hoarder!
Exactly! I kept about 3 (short) bookshelves worth out of the 17 (HUGE) bookshelves I had when I moved to Oregon from the East Coast. The ones I brought with me were my favorite books(many of them very very old first editions), but I MISSED the rest of them. Until I got my Nook! :smokin: Now I have THOUSANDS of books to chose from but if I want the feel (and smell) of a reall book I can pick up one of my old favorite off a bookshelf and sit down to read it.

I love the portablity of the E Reader. Tires being rotated? I can read a chapter while I wait. Waiting at the gas station for a fill... I can get through at least 10 pages. I can have 5 or 6 or 10 books going at the same time (usually 2 or 3 is my limit, but you get the idea) and easily pick up where I left off on any one of them.

I also love that most of the classics (which is what i usually read over and over and over) are either free or super cheap.

that is definitely true. lots of free jane austin too. i could never read ten books at once. (see ADHD meds comment above  ) i would forget what they were about. but i definitely read two or three at a time. we actually have a library. the room was meant to be an office but we made it into a library. and the other day my sister called us book hoarders. and then she said, 'if you read one of those books every day until you die you'd still never be able to read them all'. and instead of the reaction she was looking for, i just found it horribly depressing. i can't ever read all the books i want to read. and imagine all the books that haven't even been written yet? or the ones i don't know about? what about those books? i'm going to want to read some of those books too. nightmarish idea lol

@toots--I would have the same exact response to your sister's comment. I have a little notebook where I used to write down all of the books I wanted to read, but the list was getting too long and I just didn't have time to read them all. I quit adding books to it about 4 years ago. :ohwell: I used to spend my summers taking grad school classes. Now that I'm done with all of my schooling, I have a bit more time to read. I still have to devote some of that time to reading or re-reading texts that I teach or that are on my students' summer reading list, but I also try to read at least 1 or 2 books that are purely for pleasure.

This summer I'm reading Catch-22 b/c I've always wanted to read it and some of my students read it as an independent novel. I'm also reading 2 books of poetry that a friend of mine published. One is from a few years ago and the other she just recently published. Her name is Shaindel Beers--the 1st book is called A Brief History of Time (like the Stephen Hawking book), and the 2nd is called The Children's War--both are through Salt Publishing. I really loved the 1st one--of course, I'm biased b/c she's my friend and I recognize some of the people and places in the poetry. I just started the 2nd one today and it seems to be a collection of poems that are each responses to visual art. So far I really like it as well, though it's very different from the 1st collection. These are both for pleasure but also as possible material for my AP class.

My "purely for pleasure" book is supposed to be the 3rd Hunger Games book, but I haven't quite gotten around to that yet.

The Kindle works! I'm live from my recliner! Looks like I'll be able to log my food while on vacation. You will probably be able to tell by the typos when l use it instead of the puter. I keep missing the space bar. It will take a little while to get used to it. Amy just gave me a stylus and now I'm hitting the ones l want.

Just had a super busy day and got stuck at work late trying to figure out a problem, still haven' figured it out - hopefully I'll find it with fresh eyes/brain in the morning.

@Tom~Salad sounds delish! Have a terrific vacation and don't forget your Fitbit.
@Karen~Let the countdown begin! I'm so glad you figured out your travel dilemma, so glad you'll be able to see some of the TDF - I think Albertville will be interesting, I'm sure lots to see there since Olympics were held there.
@Kaye~Hooray for making such progress and getting discharged on Independence Day!
@Susan~So glad to see you - are your travels over for a bit?

I've been trying to decide on a Kindle or other tablet/iPad - just can't decide. I have an iPhone, so the iPad just seems logical - so on the fence.

Right now perusing 2014 cruise brochures, trying to decide on 2nd cruise for next year - think it will be back to Alaska but different ports. Haven't even taken the next cruise yet (March) but early bird gets the good cabins!

Corymomma - welcome back. You have set yourself some serious challenges for the month - I'm duly impressed! Congrats on finishing your 5K - that's brilliant and your so close to reaching your weight goals don't get discouraged that your 2 friends have dropped off MFP - we're here for you! :flowerforyou:

Angelika - welcome back also - still playing pentaque? did I spell that right? I don't think so! I'm glad to see you drop in!

Tom - I'm sure you'll enjoy the Arches and the rest of your vacation - I hope the weather cools off for you! Its beautiful country and theres bound to be a/c in your rooms to cool down at night. Take water bottles everywhere you go, and lots of pictures. The Arches takes lots of hours to go through so get there early in the day!

MowMow and Toots - I love old and new books and always dreamed of having a "proper" library. My favorite library is Harry Truman's personal home library in Missouri. Its small and quaint and perfect in every way. With my allergies, these kindles and nooks are the perfect answer to the dust mites and problems old books carry with them.

Kaye - that's super progress you're making with your knee, and great that the therapists are going to work with your other knee too.

Kris - good to see ya - come more often if you feel like it!

Skinny - double squee with you for your rail pass - its really happening !!! We need more emoticons! Glad your clothes and shoes and luggage are all coming together for you !!!! Seeing the race up close is going to be breathtaking for you and your friend. Check one for the bucket list!

Kah - oh you sound like you are having fun deciding on another cruise - whoo boy - Alaska must have impressed you plenty! smart to book so early !

It's 8 pm and I still haven't had dinner yet. I've got to figure something out. Tuna or soup or a combination. Out of bread, or I'd make creamed tuna on toast, good old comfort food. Out of everything actually but the darned tuna and soup. Oh. Crackers. A meal fit for a queen!

Hi all!!! I have a loaner computer for a few days so thought I would try to catch up a bit!!!! Sadly my computer seems to have bit the dust and there are more pressing financial needs that take precedence. My Kindle has kept me logging and exercising but has no capabilities for the message boards..... But sticking to healthy habits is the most important thing!!! I will try to get somewhat caught up on posts later!!!

Question for the Ladies- What types of Sport Bra do you like? I am not considering buying one but I tried a few on today but I did not like the fit completely so not sure what I am looking for. It needs to be cotton because the nylon/silky ones might cause me to itch.

The only one that works for me is Enell and I order online. They are not cheap that's for sure, but they hold these triplets in - DDD. It's not pretty. This is the same one that Oprah wears. She mentioned it years ago and I figured with all of her ups and downs she would know. Sure enough it's the only one I found that truly holds them in and doesn't give me a uniboob either. LOL!!!

I just finished Emma's birthday cake. My first experience with fondant (other than a big fail trying to make my own). I think it turned out cute. I'm so excited to show her in the morning!!!

Super cute!!! Awesome job. I use to read that fish book to my son all the time, but I can't remember the name. Is this about giving away his scales? I love the story.

Rainbow Fish...I read it to my kids and I used it for my team at work. Great story for every age!!

Yes!! Rainbow Fish. I loved those books and they had such a wonderful lesson behind them. Thank you for the memory.

Boy, where to start? Thanks for welcoming me back. I was a tad bit MIA, but missed you guys terribly. The job is keeping me super busy. I've had bread issues in Iowa. Bones in chicken in 4 states. Out of stock products in Dallas. We have 90 restaurants in 10 states and I seem to be putting out fires every where. I'm still so thankful for the new job and glad I left the casino world, but I'm responsible for all the purchasing and it's keeping me swamped. I can't make excuses though and derail my weight loss efforts. I'm barely holding on. I haven't gained it all back, but its not been pretty either.

With the 4th, I've got the long weekend ahead. Unfortunately, I've got another business trip Monday to Wednesday to Minneapolis and Sioux Falls. Vacation the last week of July with Cyrus to Sarasota and Atlanta. I started back to the gym this week and looking to start with a trainer after I get back next week. I really need that extra push. It will be an expense, but I'll just need to readjust some things.

Robin - Once again, I can't thank you enough for being a constant. Even when I venture away, I come back and your here with the group. It's the one constant that has kept me going. I'm forever thankful. Sorry to read about your skin woes, but it sounds like things are trying to heal. Awesome job on the squats though.

Tom - Enjoy your vacation!! Hopefully, you'll get a drop in temps up in UT. This weather has been nuts!! Last year was my first official summer in Vegas and I didn't think it was too bad, but this past week - sizzling!!!!

Tina - No update needed. We stay in touch so I know how your doing. With that said, I've been so proud of your commitment to exercise, but now we just need to figure out how to manage the food side. I know we can do this and stick to it!!

MowMow - Loved the shelves. Very creative. Also, step away from the chips and dip. You know that's our downfall. LOL!! I have a Nook too and love it!! I'm the same way and never thought I would get away from paper, but I really do enjoy it. I keep it in my purse at all times and pull it out everywhere.

Toots - I have to chuckle at your ADHD comments. I can't tell you how often I want to steal my son's ADD medicine. I've heard it does wonders to curb cravings. LOL!!

Skinny - Woo Hoo on the pass! I'm so excited for you. I was in Germany and Switzerland, but it was years ago. I wish I could give you some advice. With any travel, packing light is key. Keep making your lists. Having laundry will be huge. I lay everything out on my bed for each day. You can then add a few pieces that can extend your days. Layering is also key. You're going to have a blast!!!

Kaye & Karen - Hope you both continue to heal. I know it's so tough to stay down, but proper healing is needed too. Hang in there!!!

Corymomma - I'm probably new to you, but I love this group and started last August following them. Congrats on the 5K! I did 4 last year and really enjoyed each one of them. I walked the majority of them, but did add a little run along the way. Keep it up!

Angelika - Good to see you again!

Kah - I was thinking about a 2014 cruise as well. Cyrus has been begging for us to go on another one. A friend of mine is going on the Duck Dynasty cruise in July. The show cracks me up, but it's in Miami and a quick Carnival weekend cruise. Carnival is not my favorite. Plus, by the time we fly from Vegas to Miami, I don't want a little weekend trip, but a full week. Alaska has always been on my list though. Greece too is very high on my list. Thanks for checking in on me. I'll let you know how the trainer works out. The guy who signed me up has someone in mind so we'll see.

Laurie - I'm always in awe of your climbing. I think it's awesome and it's great to watch your progress. I'll have to touch base with you on the trainer thing as well. I'm going to talk to the gym probably this weekend about setting it up and go from there.

It's good to be back and I'm really going to try to log in daily. We've been doing a lot of tastings lately. In the past month, I've had 5 soup suppliers and have 3 more to go. Today was tasting new brownies. I've got 3 pastrami suppliers we need to sample as well. I have to do a lot of tasting and spitting out to save on my calories. Working in the food industry is NOT easy.

Well it's almost the 4th, just ting to figure out what to do food wise. I finished my last research paper for one of my online classes so I only have one left to work on over the weekend. It's always a lonely holiday for me because I'm not fond of fireworks nd my husband can't seem to do without them. So I sit here by myself while he and the kids go out. I have enough to do around here to keep me busy.

Skinny sounds like a great trp is coming together
Susan- work stress and traveling do me in. It's really hard to eat healthy in an airport
Robin- good job on exercise. I really need to exercise more. I always feel better.

Hope everyone else is hanging in there and has a safe 4th of July!

My Wednesday Wish is that I could just feel good about myself. I'm having a really hard time lately. I'm not looking for pity or comments, just venting on how I feel.
I cant even look in the mirror and like what I see. At all. Even with working out, I'm not really feeling better. I feel uncomfortable in everything I wear. And it feels like there is no point in really getting myself ready for work or for the day. I put on basically work out clothes everyday. I'm just not sure what is going to change the way I am thinking right now. Maybe, hopefully soon I will start feeling a change.

Today I completed Level 3 Day 4 of 30DS, 6 more days! Then I go on vacation and then I start Rockin' Body by Shaun T! I am excited about that. Shaun T's videos get great results, so hoping this one does too!

    Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

    Good Morning.

Started my day with a hot flash, that was nice (sorry if that’s TMI, Tom). I hadn’t had one of those in a while!

@Tina~I’m sorry you’re struggling right now, try to focus on the positives. Your vacation is almost here, hope you come back feeling refreshed and energetic. Hang in there!

@Robin~I loved Alaska!!! I could easily live there (in the summer  ). Way to go on those squats, how is your arm? Is it all healed?

@Susan~I bet that Duck Dynasty cruise would be fun! I’m not a fan of Carnival either, I mostly sail with Princess. We’re doing Panama Canal in March – partial transit, 11-days, tacking on 2 days on both sides to spend in Ft. Lauderdale. We’re thinking of doing Alaska again next August – R/T out of Seattle, spending a few days in Victoria beforehand. Greece is definitely on my bucket list too – as is Iceland, we’re talking of it for 2015 (it is $$$ though). Princess is having good sales right now, esp if you have sailed with them before (our cabin for Panama just got upgraded as a result). I also heard that Disney is having some fabulous deals out of Galveston, through November – then they move to Houston port I think. FYI, Disney goes to Alaska now - might be fun for Cyrus!

Wednesday Wish~That everyone have a fabulous Independence Day tomorrow! :flowerforyou:

@Tina- sorry to hear you are stuck in a bit of a rut, I hate it when it happens. But keep at it and eventually you will get out. Maybe change up your workout intensity tog et some extra endorphins? Or extra sunshine? Sometimes the victory is simply that we persevere and keep at it.

I love the idea of posting the week's plan for working out so I am going to include mine
Monday- run and jazzercise Run didn't happen but jazzercise did
    Tuesday- jazzercise- Done
    Wed- Jazzercise- Done
Thursday- 4th of July 10K, yoga in the evening
    Friday- Jazzercise
    Saturday- Run and jazzercise

WEdnesday wish- mine is that my children would go to sleep earlier. They have all adapted far too easily to summer hours and I just can't keep up. I have been running on about 5 hours of sleep average and I know I'm going to crash but can't seem to avoid it. Part of the problem is that with all the extra daylight once their dad gets home from work he takesthem to the playground or pool or something, they don't get home until after 9 and are so would up they won't go to sleep until 11 or later. Hubby owns his own business and doesn't get much time with the kids during the school year- I am an admitted schedule Nazi and bedtime is 8:30 no ifs and or buts. So if he's late he may not spend more than 30 min with the kids before bed, so I feel guilty tryign to curtail his Daddy daughter time in the summer when he can spend the extra time with them but I have got to figure out a way to make this work for me as well. Because right now it isn't. Normally I woudl go run at 5am, to avoid the heat and humidity but I may just have to deal with it and go later in the morning. Oldest is 11 and can watch her sisters while I finish a run. And I keep my phone with me and they all have it memorized. Think I will give that a try this next week and see how it goes, just running a little later so I can get some sleep.

Hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July! Drink up!!

@sherrie--good luck switching up your schedule--hope the later run time works for you! I was going to suggest running in the evening while hubs has the kids, but if you're used to running at 5am, I'm guessing that would be tough.

@kelley--Iceland is at the top of my travel bucket list (though I don't plan to do a cruise). My parents did Greece a couple of years ago and said it was one of the best cruises they've ever done.

@tina--I think that once we've lost a significant amount of weight, gaining even a little bit back leads to serious body image issues. Surely you still look and feel (physically) better than you did at your highest weight, but b/c you've experienced an even healthier weight than where you are right now, it feels (emotionally) worse. I know even at 8-10 lbs above my lowest weight, I'm feeling like a blob. When I'm feeling really fat, I try to think about how I felt and looked at my highest weight rather than comparing to where I was when I was 10 lbs lighter. It helps. A bit. :ohwell:

@suzee--I wish I disliked fireworks b/c ever since we got gunner, we are forced to miss them in order to baby-sit our crazy dog. You can actually see the fireworks from my front lawn, but DH and I can't even take turns going outside b/c gunner gets more anxious if we aren't BOTH in the house with him. :grumble:

@susan--yes, I know that packing light is the key and that's the problem--I like to bring way too much! :blushing: I'm going to do exactly what you suggested--lay it all out on the bed. Just waiting for the DH to leave for work and then I will get started.

@robin--great job with the exercise!! you are doing so great! :drinker: Tuna on crackers is one of my favorite meals!

@tom--I would need the stylus for sure. There's something "wrong" with my fingertips when it comes to touchpads. I'm not sure what it is, but even my friend noticed her ipad wouldn't work for me when I was up at her house last week. It's another reason I haven't gotten a smartphone.

    Wed. Wish:
Well, so far my neighbors haven't been setting off a bunch of pre-holiday fireworks. This is great b/c it's all of the little unpredictable "pops" and "booms" that put gunner on edge prior to the big show on the 4th. So my wish is that the peace continues up until tomorrow evening when I can just blast our stereo for a couple of hours to drown out the noise.

    Exercise Goals:
Sat--Dirty Girl Mud Run (5k) DONE
Sun--swimming DONE + walk gunner DONE
    Mon--walk gunner DONE + 30DS DONE + run DONE
    Tues--walk gunner DONE + 30DS DONE
Wed--walk gunner + gym or run
    Thurs--walk gunner + gym or run + 30DS
    Fri--walk gunner + 30DS

Skinny, this really makes a lot of sense. And I am going to start working on looking at it that way.
But for me sadly it hasn't been just a 10lb gain, it's been a lot more. BUT I am still working out and working on my food so eventually I will start feeling better. Thank you for that though, it has helped and I needed that.
