The SWaT Walking Team has been inactive for a few weeks and I've decided to give it another go. Hope no one minds that I am using the old team name. It originally stood for Sansone Walking Team and I just like the name that was set by the original founder of the team.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I have lost 51 lbs by using the Walk Away the Pounds workout videos. I thought I was ready to move on to other workouts but I haven't really found one that I really like and can do very well or one that has kept my interest for very long. As a result I have ended up doing mostly nothing, so I have come to the conclusion that I should stick with what is working for me.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Walk Away the Pounds they are walking workouts by Leslie Sansone. They are easy to do for someone who is uncoordinated (like me) or older (also like me) or that just can't handle the more strenous workouts for whatever reason. They can be done in your livingroom right in front of your TV or computer. They are easy to find at Wal-mart, Target, Best Buy, online and lots of other sources. They can be rented from Netflix and downloaded from the internet.

The Walk Away the Pounds is "my" walking choice. The group is open to anyone that wants to do any form of walking. Indoors, outdoors, it's up to you. Anid if you want to mix in some other stuff thats okay too. I hope to do a little strength training here and there myself.

So if you would like to join me in my walking just jump right in. You set your own goal as we are all at different levels and all have our own schedules and other interests. Just check in whenever you would like, daily, weekly, whatever works for you. The first phase will last until October 31st to get us past the Halloween candy temptations (I love candy corn). If everyone wants to keep going beyond that we'll do a November and December walk to keep us motivated through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

I am going to set my goal for October 31st at 50 miles. I've been slacking lately and need to get re-motivated.

I still have to buy her DVD but am going to try it again. I still have hip pain so I'd rather have hip pain and be skinny!! So I am not going to set a goal, but just do as much as I can I will try a mile per day but may have to go to every other day. :)
  • Ok Sandy Im in too. I've been in the group a couple times and miss it. I've had to sit out for a month or so to recover from a ruptured appendix.

    Im ready!!!

My goal is going to 50 miles by Oct. 31.

OK Sandy, I'm going for 40 miles by October 31st. I'm on a cruise for a week in October but I'll try to keep track of my mileage. Thanks for starting this again. I think it really makes me keep exercising. I'm looking for a new Leslie DVD. Leslie talks and talks and talks. I can repeat her lines because I've heard them so many times! LOL I saw that you liked "Punch Up Your Walk Kit" so I'm looking on Amazon for that one. I tried Richard Simmons "Sweatin to the Oldies" but I laugh at some of the moves. I'm so uncoordinated that I can't "tip the hat" or "twirl the rope". Thank goodness it's only the cats watching me!

I'll start my 40 miles tomorrow morning! Thanks again!

LOL I've thought the same thing when I exercise. I am uncoordinated too. I glad animals can't laugh.

I'm so glad to see everyone joining in. I've really missed this group. Good to see the old faces coming back and new ones joining us.

Luney, You should take a pedometer on your cruise! You will walk and walk and walk. The punch up your walk kit is a little hard to find but it really is a good one. Another good one is the 5 day slim down. It has 5 miles on it, one for each day. I started out with it and did one mile a day at first and then added a mile every so often and sometimes now I'll do the whole 5 miles. But she has lots of good ones. The 3 mile boot camp is still pretty easy to find at Wal-mart. It has walking, boosted walking and strength training intervals.

Maynard, sorry about the ruptured appendix but I'm glad your able to join us now.

Iluvwdw - just go at your own pace, you don't have to walk every day and I usually skip a day or 2 during the week myself.

Buccinator - glad to have you with us.

    :flowerforyou:

    Happy Walking!

I am all in!!!! I am determined to finish my 100 miles from 2 months ago which leaves me 19.5 (I walked 2 miles today). But I am going to raise my 19.5 to meet the 100 goal by an additional 10.5 So I WILL COMMITT to walking a total of 30 miles for the month!!!! Thanks Sandy for doing this you are not the only one who needs the group:drinker: :flowerforyou:

Hey Queenie! Glad your back. I just got home from work and better get walking or I won't tonight. I don't know what posessed us to stay up so late last night knowing we had to work today.
  • It IS great to see the team getting back together!

And WELCOME to all the new walkers! :flowerforyou:

Well I had a good 1st day. I was really happy with my morning exercise I jogged 1 1/2 miles on Wii. Then I did another 1 mile with my Leslie Sanson tape. I was going to leave it at that. But my husband came home from work and decided he wanted chocolate chip cookies and pulled out the tub of dough and baked a couple dozen. The house smelled soooo good I couldn't stand it, so I took a big drink of water, popped some gum in my mouth and went for another walk of 1 1/2 miles. So Im kind of proud of myself for that. The house still smells like cookies though. :grumble: Gonna go open some windows now!

Oh, I am glad you started this up again, Sandy. I have added some strength training into my routine but I find I always do the walking for my cardio! I don't want to change my ticker so I'm just going to note my starting mile in my signature and see how far I get.

Luney--you can get the Punch Up Your Walk Kit from Target.com or Amazon (it still comes from Target, though!). It doesn't appear to be available in any stores that i can find. I have it bookmarked and hope to get it soon myself!

Okay this group is already helping because there is no way I would have walked my 3 miles tonight if it weren't for this being the first day of the challenge. :blushing:

Maynard - way to stay strong during the cookie caper. For that you should make some of those black bean brownies that were posted on another thread and not tell him what they are. They really sound weird but I might have to try them just to see.

And I'm not sure if this is good or bad but I tried some new sugar free chewing gum today. Dessert sensations in mint chocolate chip flavor. Reminded me of the girl scout thin mint cookies.

I tried them--they weren't bad. My son took some to work with him to see if they could tell they weren't really broenies--some could, some couldn't.

What store did you find them at? I haven't seen then yet. The gum flavors are all 5 calories a piece. (I love the Girl Scout Thin Mints so I HAD to lok this up!)

I forgot about those black bean brownies. I just might have to try them too. I don't think I could keep a straight face if my husband tried them. I've been at home all day with the cookies on the counter and didn't eat one. Yea Me!!!

Hey definately going to try that gum though. Sounds yummy!

Another 3 miles for me today. The scales are really giving me a hard time. Jumping up and down and up again. I'm just gonna keep going though. Need to get back to my water more too.

Maynard, I know what you mean about keeping a straight face. I would try them on my husband (sweet junkie) but he's already heard me talking about them. I'll have to wait a while before I sneak them in on him.

    Keep on walking everybody!

Got in 2.5 miles today, although I am sick I was sicker being couped up in the house and not being able to talk. But being in that air probably wasn't the brightest idea:noway:

Hope your feeling better today Queenie!

I did the 2-mile Big burn dvd. It's a pretty good shorter workout. It has intervals of walking and the boosted walking and only takes about 30 minutes but you can still feel it.

    Happy Wednesday Everybody!

:drinker: Hi everyone! I'm still walking and have been getting quite a few miles in. I THOUGHT I'd found a walking buddy but after a couple of messages back and forth through meetup.com she just kind of disappeared.:ohwell: Oh well, maybe she's just busy but you'd think she could at least let me know!

The weather here is gloomy and rainy again:grumble: --going to do some videos soon. At least it will give me some energy for the rest of the day--works better than a cup of coffee and won't keep me from sleeping tonight. (I do love my morning coffee, though!)

I hope everyone is doing well.:flowerforyou:

    Great walking everybody!

Welcome to the group Kizzy & Willimh! Always glad to have more walkers join us. I think Kizzy is right. It's about 2000 steps for one mile according to the websites I saw.

I did the 2 mile power walk with friends today. It uses small hand weights. Not one of her best but still a decent workout.

I'll be taking the day off tomorrow from my walking DVD's but I"m sure I'll get in plenty of walking just the same. We're going to to a large flea market and walk around for a bit. I'll try to remember my pedometer just to see how many steps.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

I'd love to join if it's not too late. I'm a big WATP fan. I did Fast Four Miles today and can I tell you I didn't think I'd make it through all 5 boosts, but I did

I'm aiming for 75 miles in September and then upping the stakes a bit and will be going for 80 in October.

Everyone is doing so well! I love walking--outside AND to my videos.

kizzy_muss and anyone else who is interested--I have a list of Leslie's videos that are available online--as well as lots of other routines. I was unemployed (and am still 'poor'!) when I started losing weight so I searched online for workouts and I found a LOT of them.

Here is my list of Leslie Sansone workouts you can do:

    Leslie Sansone Videos Online

Here are some videos from youtube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M9fV8QYoVc&feature=PlayList&p=3276123ADD7730EE&playnext_from=PL&index=0

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68NaX-7v2DQ&feature=PlayList&p=3276123ADD7730EE&playnext_from=PL

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XWRZcvAZys&feature=PlayList&p=3276123ADD7730EE&playnext_from=PL

These 3 equal her 2 mile Walk Away the Pounds for Abs.

    Also:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndVjwkaLGDk&feature=PlayList&p=3276123ADD7730EE&playnext_from=PL

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8b4P57jNsQ&feature=PlayList&p=3276123ADD7730EE&playnext_from=PL

These 2 are 1 mile each. You can create a playlist if you have an account and then you can play them all consecutively. (I have also recently discovered that I can put them on my RealPlayer (free download) and not download the commercials! This is a much smoother transition even than as a youtube playlist.)

This is a 15 minute 1 mile walk with the California raisin!:

    http://www.calraisins.org/healthy-lifestyle/smart-steps-for-good-health/

Scroll down the page and click on the Web video link to the right of the picture.

And finally, here's a link to her 1, 2, and 3 mile Start Walking workouts:

    http://www.exercisetv.tv/startwalking/default.aspx?=aha_link_startwalking_april09

All these links can be watched and done on line.

These links were all still good a week ago so they should be good now.
