I've only done mine on the treadmill! When I get done with C25K I plan on starting C210K and doing some of the running outside, since the weather will be cooler!

I have gone from 375 pounds down to 298 - and I am now considering this...but not sure if I am too heavy. I do not want to set myself up for failure....I know that T25 and Insanity are beyond my abilities at the moment. Also - I have knee issues.

What are your thoughts? Can I just jog it really slow? I would not be doing it to actually run a 5k...but just to get some extra movement and have another goal to work towards.

My advice would be to stick to walking til you're a good bit lighter, then work up your time jogging gently and progressing MUCH slower than on the standard c25k. I'm out with a knackered knee that's only just improving after several weeks - brought on by running (and I'd finished week 8!!   ).
I hope to start c25k again from the beginning in a month or so, but do each level for AT LEAST 2 weeks before moving on.

Running/ jogging puts a heck of a lot more stress on your knees than walking does, and if you can get your walking speed up you can burn almost as many calories as slow jogging. Good luck!!

I'm doing it on the treadmill... I know everyone thinks treadmills suck but it's too hot outside and I just like doing it in the gym that way I can do it right after weights. I set the incline to 1. I just finished week 3, except I did week 3 day 3 twice because I didn't feel like I was ready for week 4 yet.

I've also been doing this program on a treadmill. It's just way too hot out. Today I finished week 4 day 2. Amazing how much "easier" it felt today versus day 1. I love how fast I am seeing differences in myself. Looking forward to wrapping up this week and moving on to week 5!

ok. I'm actually looking forward to W5 D3 tomorrow morning where I will run 2 miles..... well that's the idea anyway lol.

I am mad - I work in a school and it's the first day of term tomorrow, first day back also for my daughter (Starting G2/year 3) and need to (well want to so I look decent) wash and straighten my hair before we leave in the morning and want to/need to get into work early, so leave before 7am....

So.... I've made our lunches already and put them in the fridge and plan to by up at 5 and out the door by 5.15 so I can be back home by 6 leaving an hour to sort me and my daughter out lol

But I thought better to start as I mean to go on and hopefully the feeling of doing 2 miles will leave a smile on my face all day ;)

    Have a good one all...

Two weeks under my belt, and I'm starting to feel the motor get stronger. I can accelerate up hills and simply feel more power in my stride. I'm really glad I decided to do the C25K so that I build up slowly and avoid knee pain.

Ran two miles this morning!!! Had to slow to walk twice (but only for 10-15 seconds) and kept a good steady 10.5 min mile pace. So proud :)

Today is going to be Week 3, Day 3. Have been doing most of the workouts on the treadmill, but since the Y is closed today I'm going to have to do it outside. (Last 2 of 3 workouts have been outside due to being on vacation).

Personally, I prefer the treadmill because I'm forcing myself to run until it's time to lower the speed.

Running at snail-like pace, but on the treadmill doing it on a 2.0 incline to compensate. lol

I finished Week 7 yesterday - I can't believe I can run for 25 minutes! my total distance was 2.5 miles/4K. I actually got under a ten minutes mile.

It's funny, I keep thinking, "is it really me that is doing this????"

I really want to encourage everyone on this board to keep going. This is a great program. Running is helping me stick to my food plan, because I feel good, and, as a bonus, it has really improved my mood. There IS such a thing as a runner's high!

Completed day 1 week 6 this morning - seems easy doing the intervals now I've done 2 miles lol.

I now have a achy pain in my left lower side/hip area though. Hoping I've just pulled it a bit and it's nothing more.

I'm in week 3 and did day 2 today. It seems to be getting a little easier! I'm a little nervous about the weeks to come with the longer runs! I've tried to run in the past but I think I always overdid it so I burned out. I'm glad to have come across this board to help with some encouragement to keep going!

 Haven't run since last Friday (w5d2). I am going out at lunch to do w5d3 today. I will not talk myself out of it!!! I have a 5K in 4 weeks and I was really hoping that I would have an extra week or two to help build up my speed. Probably won't happen now. I really need to get myself out of bed in the morning. I have been running outside, but it is too dark at 5 and I can't go any later in the morning. I will do it today!!!!!!! Even in the rain!!!

Great job to everyone so far!!

You can do it! It is hard to run in the dark or rain. I'm willing myself to have to start doing that since I live where it rains a lot!

Finished week 4 today! Can't believe how much easier run 3 of this week was than week 1. This program is actually becoming "fun" for me as I'm seeing progress so quickly. I will take a rest day then Monday it's on to week 5. Love this forum you are all awesome for sharing your experiences!

I will be starting week 5 on Monday. I am ready and can't wait.
  • This is my first week at c25k... I started it last April but never properly finished it. I'm going to follow it properly this time!
  • This is my 1st day starting the c25k.....I was able to complete it and look forward to the change. A co-worker has done REALLY well using the c25k and has lost 31 Lbs in 3 weeks

I ran yesterday but pain in side was really bad after - I think I have a strain so having to take some time off. Hoping maybe by mid-week I might be ok again but don't want to aggrivate it. If I have to take long off will probably have to jump a week back to build myself up again?

    Nyk :(

Hey everyone! Did w6d3 yesterday, and I'm still alive! I had to restart w6 because I was sick for a week and a half.

Nyk, I had to stop after w6d2, and I had 1.5 weeks off. When I got better, I did w6d1. It was hard, but the second day was easier. Hope that helps.

I just finished my W3D3 run today.

I'm loving it this time. This is probably the 7th time I've started and I usually hate it by this point.

    I'm running a little more, 4-5 days a week.

This morning I did W5D1. I did great. no problems. I will be doing D2 on Wednesday and then hopefully the big D3 on Friday. I may wait until Saturday to give myself an extra day of rest for it. We will see, 20 minutes of running just seems so long. It may take 2-3 attempts at D3.

I finished week 4 day 1 today! I did it! Though there were times when I was praying my running time was up because I wasn't sure I was going to make it but I did! Hoping day 2 & 3 will be a little easier. Really liking the program though because in the past I would get burned out and quit. So far so good!

Forgot to post last week. I completed w5d3 on Thursday and completed w6d1 yesterday. Hoping to get w6d2 tomorrow. Going to shoot to do every other day until I complete the program now. I have a 5K 3 weeks from this Saturday. Every other day would give me just over a week before that. If I have to add an extra day in once or twice I should still have a week.

Great job everyone for completing the next day and moving to the next week. Awesome!!!

I'm on week 8 and still feeling like it's so hard. I started in April; have had to repeat some weeks, take time off for an ankle injury, and then there was a heat wave and well, it was hot. Considering I started the program by running around in my house, then moved to running around in my yard, and then took the big leap to running the streets, that is progress. Still, so hard. I'll be following along here.

    This is my first post!

Is there a group or is it just messaging on here? I'd like to join in!! My dad used to be a marathon runner (he's 63) and stopped running about 5 yrs ago due to an ATV accident that broke his collar bone and the jolting from the running hurt him, and he never picked it up. He handed me a flyer a week ago about a 5K run in our area (we live in booney land) and I had tried c25K before but never with a goal 5K in mind, just wanted to try the program. Well, I brought it up to my fiance and he's pretty out of shape too and while I've been working out with Turbo Fire and he sees I'm getting results and eating better and getting more energy, he has decided he wants to get healthy, too, but he's not a DVD workout person, so we decided we were going to use this C25K program to get us ready for this 5K and have a goal together to complete the 5K, even if we are the slowest joggers, we want to complete it. :)

So, we started Sunday with week 1 day 1 (for some reason we just really wanted to start that day) and today did week 1 day 2. Our kids joined us today, who are in much better shape than us because of being in sports up until this past summer. It was awesome doing this with the family today and I hope they will see us parents doing it and want to keep going with us! :)

Anyway, that's kind of our little background! I'm a plus size girlie. The main reason I stopped back when I first started was this woman neighbor (we have to pass her house to get home) made a comment that really made me SELF CONSCIOUS about getting out there and jogging. I was only on week 2 day 2 of C25K and I had my dog with me (who is a pug, they snort a lot) and she made a comment in front of my fiance and her kids about she saw me out jogging the other day and said "I don't know who was worse off, you or the dog" and she was laughing about it, but it really REALLY made me self-conscious, and I pretty much stopped doing it after that day.

But, having my whole family with me, well I felt better doing it, and we even passed her house today as a family and she said "You're looking good!" so I know she was just joking, but it was still one of those things that a girl like me who has 50 MORE pounds to lose doesn't want to hear, ya know?

Anyway, thanks for reading if you're still reading, lol.

@mimiteh35, I know what you mean by being self conscious when running. I was running on the treadmill one day and my husband came running down the basement because it sounded like the treadmill was breaking. Now I won't run on it unless he is out of the house or sleeping, even though he had no idea I was running on it and he didn't really mean anything by it. Some day I will get over it.

Today I did W5D2. I felt like I could have done another 8 minutes. I think I am ready for D3 on Friday.
