    I spot like this
    hilarious_gym_moments_caught_on_camera_640_41.jpg

How you know you are a lifter he is benching 235 LBs.

    Looks more like a plate, 25, 5, 2.5 so I would say it's actually 200. If it's a 35 not a 25 then it's 220.

    I'm pretty sure that's a 45, 35, 10, and 5 a side...so that's 235. (First thing I did when I saw that pic was to add it up.)

Regardless of the number, the guy looks stapled...although it could just be timing of the pic...and even more likely, is completely staged.

Oh, staged I'm sure. I also don't understand why someone wouldn't just do the 2 plates and a 5 if they are doing 235 -- unless you are at my gym and all the plates have wandered off that is.

I can never post a pic of my barbell loaded then. To add weight to my standard set of no more than a pair of everything (and for my oly db handles), I bought a couple hundred pounds of 10s...so instead of a Devo hat, I often end up with a top hat. Besides, sometimes it's just easier to keep ramping up with the nickels and dimes instead of stripping just to put on a big boy wheel.

This is something I struggle with at lower weights- I ramp up on my bench- and I usually go 95- 115-135-145/155-160... at 95- it's silly to take off the 95- add the 35- then take that off and add the wheel...

except- I HATE putting on 95 + 10's. How fricking silly does that look?

    very I say. very.

But it technically is faster. I've had to give up worrying about it- I do some weird weights- and sometimes it's not worth it ego wise to upgrade to a bigger plate- b/c sometimes- I gotta go back down- and it's much easier to take off a set of 5's than replace the whole plate with a serious of small plates.

Now I'm starting to wonder if I have a specific form of OCD lol.

To be fair- and in the interest of complete transparency- that's not a federation legal press- just straight down- to chest and up to lock out. No pause- I have bad elbows- pausing for me is an injury waiting to happen- but was a clean lift all the way down to lockout.

    Re: spotters:
I'm mixed, I much prefer using the power cage these days if I'm not with my trainer. The cage will not help with lift off, which sucks, but it won't take a rep I'm grinding out. Also, I don't have to slap its *kitten* when I'm done.

Regarding getting gloved. Rings at the gym + freeweights = wtf bro, you dumb? At least, in my opinion.

If you lift with a ring you're likely to at least damage the ring or get it caught and risk serious injury. I've seen a guy get seriously injured when his ring got caught on a cable once. That will make you take notice!

I've lifted with a simple wedding band for most of my adult life. Never had a problem with it. That said, if I could take it off, I would...because it makes a weird callous on my hand.

    gold?

we looked a the heavier metals- but tungsten requires finger removal if something goes wrong- and we, as motorcyclist, didn't like that idea.

There are cuttable tungsten rings that are more expensive. I wouldn't want to get a ring that couldn't be cut off.

The 2 plate club has always been elusive for me. My bench sucks but not bad @170. So anytime I get a chance to getting two biggies, I'm all for it.

We should though right? More time under tension no momentum. Question but I do not think or maybe they do. Competitive lifters do you all lift with federation rules and if so do you have more gains lifting that way?

    a) As has been mentioned, bench shirts;
    b) They don't "say" they've done it - those are from PL competitions. They've been witnessed and judged. So, whether you believe them or not, it's verified that they bench that much.
    c) Ok...? So you aren't as strong as them.

I find it a little disturbing that a certified personal trainer is doubting the results from an official powerlifting competition. One thing that anyone that has lifting for any amount of time is this. There are some really strong people and they don't always look big. There's always someone faster, stronger, taller, better looking etc...

No one is questioning results, troll.

I am stating those are WORLD records. Don't believe you're gonna find a world record holder on my fitness pal.

ETA and 200 is hardly record level for senior women even without a shirt.

Sara is a record holder and is on this forum. uscamp is also a very advanced powerlifter and might be a record holder.

I had a woman on my FL HERE that weighed approx. 150lbs but her raw bench was 185lbs.

Just because you were on your high horse and someone just burst your bubble doesn't mean it's not true. There are some pretty impressive people here on this site. They lift more than you and me. That's the truth. Don't hate, appreciate.

It should be credited to whoever owns the lats on my rather robust backside. I'm not sure they are the 16 year old boys- but yeah- it is what it is.

To be fair- and in the interest of complete transparency- that's not a federation legal press- just straight down- to chest and up to lock out. No pause- I have bad elbows- pausing for me is an injury waiting to happen- but was a clean lift all the way down to lockout.

I highly doubt many us of are pressing per a federation standard.

Many of the guys in my gym would be lucky to get a half rep let alone a full rep on some of their heavier benches. I'm not sure if they are listening to people that say a full bench will destroy your shoulders or just have no idea how to actually bench.

Many guys hardly bench at all it seems. This is the soup de -jour that many prefer to use.

I have never used this machine. I think guys like it because you can stick a bunch of weight on it and look impressive. I'd only use it after my presses to extend the work on them if I was so incline to use this piece of equipment.

Anyway, I'm a full rep guy myself but I am not really sure how just fed standard I am - never trained for a comp.

Oh, when I stated "many us" I didn't mean "us" on this forum specifically. Language fail.

My old gym had that machine but my new one only had the seated version. I guess it's better than nothing but I love BB bench.

    Yeah..... right.

My 1RP is my bodyweight 162.

    :|

    a) As has been mentioned, bench shirts;
    b) They don't "say" they've done it - those are from PL competitions.

Umm, talk to Iron_Miss_Canada after she sets a few next week in Raw.

ETA and 200 is hardly record level for senior women even without a shirt.

I knew my ears were burning! Seriously not looking forward to the last little bit of this cut though to make weight.

Oh and Jo - tungsten can be frozen and shattered off.

    Yeah..... right.

My 1RP is my bodyweight 162.

I can press 185- I have it on video.

You don't have to believe me. I know I can do it. Tough titties for you that you can't press more.

But I want to know if that was you or the 16-year old boy inside you that did that. ;)

    Impressive just the same.

Language fail.

    nah- I got ya.

I don't like said machine either- but it's because I'm smaller- and well- don't fit as well. LOL

My Wed/Thurs gym has the incline too. That's always in use, which leaves the inline bb bench all to myselfsum.

Yeah i hate machines just like a lot of lifters at my gym. They are just usually newer lifters so weight wise there not to much for intermediate lifters. I would call no one I seeing at my gym an advance lifter. My views on those are a little skew though.

I've never even seen that machine, quite something.

I did see a lot of folks doing a vertically seated version of that when I was at the Y.

    hey I missed lifting discussion.

    Stupid bourbon.

Nah. I have a tungsten wedding ring. Tungsten is very strong but brittle. They can broken with a simple pair of vice grips. Plus any hospital will have the correct ring-cutting tools for cutting off the nastier metal rings (like titanium). It's not a problem at all, it's all myths and old wives tales.

Suppine bench. I actually like it. It decreases ROM.
