    Good morning everyone.

Happy Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk Day
    When : Always February 11th
Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk Day is in recognition that everyone spills a little milk now and then. It's a day to be optimistic, think positive, look on the bright side, and to find something good in everything that happens. As the song says: Don't Worry, be Happy!
Today is a day to recognize that s_ _ _ happens. And, when it does, Don't worry, or fret, or cry over it. Rather, take a positive attitude and fix it, or get past it.
We all know the concept of the question: Is the glass half full or half empty? The pessimist sees it as half empty. The optimist sees it as half full. It's all an attitude towards life.
You should participate in "Don't Cry over Spilled Milk Day" with an optimistic attitude and a smile on your face.!

“Our food should be our medicine and our medicine should be our food.” ~Hippocrates

    Happy Tuesday everyone!

@texasmom2013 - Happy Birthday!! I hope you have a great day! Oh my goodness! I can't believe the doctor told you this on the way out the door! I am glad that you found someone that you trust. I bet your baby girl will be walking in no time!

@jtconst - Congratulations on reaching your 10,000 steps already in day!

@mnwalkingqueen - It sounds like you are making some good strides! As for the co-worker who keeps dropping the ball, I would definitely talk to your boss about it. Explain that you have everything on a schedule so that projects are completed on time and things run smoothly. When your co-worker doesn't hold up his end of the project then it causes you to lose much-needed support personnel and then your project becomes derailed. In my opinion, it's all about efficiency. Everyone has to do their part to make sure that the company runs as smoothly as possible. If someone continually drops the ball, it is not good for anyone.

@cblue315 - (((HUGS))) It sounds like troubles are coming in 3s. Here is to hoping that life can ease up on you soon. It's great that you are staying on track despite all of the stress.

I am having a good week so far. I've been trying to stay on track food-wise. I've recognized that despite being stressed out (welcome to life, right?), I have a duty to take care of myself. I've been making time for activity with a purpose -- meaning cardio. Lots of dancing around in my living room lately with Dance Central Spotlight. It makes me feel productive.

I've been trying to stay within my calorie limits. I even opted to have a green smoothie for dinner on Monday night, when I knew that dinner would be late because of after-school and after-work activities.

My Goals for the rest of this week:

~ Stay within my calorie range.
~ Dance for 20 minutes every day. (we all gotta start somewhere, right?)

I struggle with if I am using this site correctly in photo below I am given 1790 calories a day to eat. I am wondering is no matter how much I exercise I should always stay at 1790 or less to lose weight correct?

@mnwalkingqueen ... here is an article from a nutritionist that is on MFP HealthyNow blog ...

    http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/ask-the-dietitian-should-i-eat-back-my-exercise-calories/

There really isn't any hard and fast rule about eating back calories from exercise. A lot of weight lifters and others were do intense workouts do eat back at least some of their burn calories.

It really, at least partially, depends on how you set up your goals.

The important thing is to not go below your resting metabolic rate, which is based on no physical activity at all.

    follow-through,
    Niki

@mnwalkingqueen... I tried to reply to your post, but got all confused with the numbers. Maybe someone else will have the correct info. But in a nutshell, you still ended up with a deficit for the day.

I made it back tonight so that is a plus. A good day at work but now I have a headache and sinus congestion. So my goal is to kick the sinus/cold before it gets me.

Sorry no personals today. Wednesday wish- that I get over this sinus infection.

    @txmom & tom--happy birthday!!!

@holly--as niki said, it somewhat depends on your goals. Is the 1790 based on losing 1 lb/week? If so, then you are at a daily deficit of 500 calories which would make your maintenance calorie allowance 2290/day. So technically, as long as you stay under that amount NET, you are in a deficit and should lose weight.

@lori--sorry for all you're dealing with right now. Hugs to you as you work through it.

@kaye--I'm not sure I understand your question about the sets and reps. If you are talking about an exercise that is the same intensity each set, then it doesn't really matter--you're doing the exercise 30 times total either way. Now if you are talking about doing different intensity levels (for example increasing weights) for each set, then it it would make a difference. In that case, it would depend upon your goals. Generally more reps at lighter weights results in increased calorie burn and building more endurance while fewer reps at heavier weights results in building strength. However, all of this is a pretty simplified explanation.

@renae--as a self-proclaimed gym rat, I would always choose convenience over the bells and whistles. The fancy equipment does me no good if I don't get my butt into the gym in the first place.

    @hansea--enjoy your 5-day weekend--I'm jealous!

@goinstd--I am the one in the middle of bargaining our teacher contract--thanks for the well-wishes. I've never heard of the procedure you described; however, I also suffer from disproportionately large upper arms. The good news is that the size of them decreased quite a bit through the weight loss (I'm down 60 lbs). They are still relatively large, but at least they no longer inhibit my ability to buy shirts with tailored sleeves. Also, weight lifting helped firm them up and diminish my "bat wings" but I think only surgery would make them ideal.

@erin--the balance routine is one my last PT put together when I was rehabbing my torn meniscus. Basically, stand with both feet together weight on the left. Tap the right toe out forward, bring it back to starting point; tap to the side, bring to start; tap to the rear, bring back to start. I repeat that on one side 15 reps and then switch sides. The other moves are various yoga and pilates moves. I think I have a link to the video that demonstrates them saved in my inbox. I will try to find it and post it for you.

    Wednesday Wish:
Well, I got some terrible news about my friend who fought through breast cancer last year. After being diagnosed last Feb, going through chemo, and having a double mastectomy plus reconstruction, we thought she could finally put this nightmare behind her. I mentioned last week that they saw a spot on her liver and had to do follow-up testing.

Turns out the spot is cancer AND they found bone cancer in her shoulder. It's an even worse scenario than they imagined b/c the bone cancer means a whole-body approach to treatment, and a much less optimistic prognosis than if it was just on the liver. She's in the process of going for various opinions about her options, so no word yet on how they will proceed.

She's only 27. I'm just beside myself with sadness for her and her family. I have no idea what to do or say--will just try to be there for her. My Wed Wish is that she gets some good news from the various specialist she's meeting with over the next few weeks.

    February Challenge:
Under weekly calorie goal: 1/4 weeks
    All-in strength challenge=balance exercises 3 x/week; PT 1-2 x/week; run 2 x/week:
Week 1: 2/3 balance; PT completed; 2/2 runs
    Week 2: 1/3 balance; PT; 1/2 runs
    Week 3: x/3 balance; PT; x/2 runs
    Week 4: x/3 balance; PT; x/2 runs
    8k at end of month (not sure what day) in 55 minutes (Thanksgiving 8k = 56:49, NYE 8k = 57:47,1/25 = 55:41)

    Grading Goals:
    1. 60/60 JRP journals DONE
    2. x/12 poem analyses
    3. 15/15 Godot analyses DONE
    4. x/60 Gatsby journals

Hey all. Kind of a wash for me today. I think my brain and my body both needed a day off after several very busy/productive days in a row. Skipped the gym today (I'll go tomorrow instead), didn't eat great but stayed within 100 calories of my goal. I did get some work done, mostly prep for writing tomorrow, and bought some new workout gear to replace my ratty sweats.

    Onward!

Thanks everyone for the feedback on replying to posts. I Hv a smartphone (even though I feel it's not always smart) & there are SOOOOO many posts I want to reply to,but its not easy with this phone. I will try to figure something out in time with replies, but for now I'm just going to read, read, read & read!

Ended up having to work 12 hrs today, just got home at 8pm, took a shower, grabbed some dinner & I'm ready for bed. No walk tonight, but I did hit my 10,000 steps!

I wish losing weight wasn't so hard, I'm looking forward to craving exercise & eating right!

    Sorry, that's all for now.

@skinny Thanks for the simple answer to my question. I am doing resistance bands at a very basic level, so your answer was just what I needed.
Met goals and walked 7.5 miles today.

Wednesday wish- that my fiancé would really hear me when I say stop bringing me food. I was raised in the "finish your plate" era and it's difficult to turn down or not finish food meant for me- it's far easier not to have it in the first place, but everyday is another restaurant he stopped at on his way home or candy he picked up just for me :-/. I just want him to really hear me when I say stop.

@mnwalkingqueen - I would try sleeping on it with the coworker problem. After you've had a day to process, then write out what you want to say. That helps me soften things or package my ideas in a presentable fashion when I want to make a point about something without offending. You can write out some of the blunt things you might say when you go in unprepared. Then don't actually use those blunt words! :)

@skinnyjeanzbound - So sorry to hear the bad news about your friend. I hope that whatever direction they take with her treatment is helpful.

AFM- I'm done with work for several days! Someone walked by my lab tonight and asked if I was living here at the clinic now because she's seen me staying late so much lately! I'm going to enjoy my time off, because I know there will be a lot of work to tackle when I get back. There are several vacancies and FMLA again throughout our system, so I'll be working with the other schedulers to get things covered, and I will be covering for my technical manager while she is away on a two-week vacation. So, even though I promised myself I'm purging this house, I do need to make sure I relax over the next several days.
I already spent two hours talking and laughing with a friend tonight on the phone. Haven't gabbed that long in a while, but her mother is getting married for the third time and is putting her through a hellish wedding dress shopping torture, so there was much to discuss! Ha!
I'm doing well this week on calorie goal, and I was able to get out for a walk over my lunch hour, so I got some (cold!) fresh air and exercise in today.

    February:
    Calorie Goal- 4/11
    Exercise Goal- 4/12
    Lift Goal:
    Leg Press-180/200
    Squats-180/200
    Abs- 150/165
    Back- 150/165
    Triceps- 80/90
    Biceps- 80/90

@skinnyjeanzbound‌ - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend-I was hoping for better news. My prayers are with her and her family. I was sweating bullets when it came time for my 1st mammogram after my Cancer treatment, afraid of recurrence in the other breast. That was on 1/31 and I'm still waiting for that call even tho I know that if the results were hinky I would have heard right away. God bless her and help her get through this.

The area that's bothering me isn't my arms, tho they ARE big, it's the side boobage that's driving me nuts. I might as well have 4 boobs! I need to do more research on this I-lipo procedure before I commit.

Wednesday wish- I wish my hubs was healthier so he could do the things he wants to do and used to be able to do. <sigh>!

Did great today, training a new hire at her desk, sat right next to a big jar full of my favorite mini chocolates with her eating them, and never was tempted to sneak one. Then my new manager waived a bag of powdered donuts under my nose and I told her "NO". Then a coworker offered cookies and I didn't even look at them! I feel pretty strong right now! Also, got out and walked on both my breaks, felt good even tho I'm appalled at how weak my legs have gotten. Baby steps, for sure!

    Good morning all.
Thursday Truth - I am teetering on the edge. Food is still OK, not great but OK. I am in this Spring weight Loss Challenge at the gym and was hoping for great things but will have to be patient. I am dealing with too many personal issues right now. Son is home, doing pretty well. He wants to go back to work today so I think that is really good. Hubby is the same. I just want to shout at him that "If it is important to you, you will find a way, if not then you will find an excuse." Right now he has nothing but excuses.

@GOINGSTD12 - Yea! On the land mines. (That is what I call those jars of treats)
Also - What helped me greatly with the side boobage was the correct fitting bra. There must be a lingerie store near you that has a certified bra fitter. When I was at my heaviest I paid about $130.00 each for the best bras I ever owned. Too bad I can't take them in, they are so very pretty.

@hansea47‌ - 5 days off sounds like heaven to me. Make them what you need for you.

@kah68 - Did the car make it home?

@mnwalkingqueen‌ - Great success comes from small efforts repeated over time. It sounds to me like you are doing all you can on the money front. You managed to pay for the car repairs without a credit card or borrowing money. You will be able to refinance in time.

@yasin12‌ - The boyfriend will get it, hopefully sooner than later. My husband does the same thing. I make him take the food down to the family room then the containers out to the garbage. I tell him "I do not want to smell it, taste it or look at it. Get it out." Be consistent and he will learn you are serious about your food plan.

Something strange happened yesterday. I updated my goals with my current weight and MFP set my calories as 980. What?!? They've been at 1200 for a LONG time (since I have 2 lbs set as my weekly weight loss goal) and I was under the impression that 1200 was supposed to be as low as MFP would set calories. I had to go into Goals and manually set my calories back to 1200. But, does that mean 980 is the number of calories I would actually have to eat in order to lose 2 lbs per week? Not gonna happen, but if that's right it's really depressing to say the least.

On another subject, I decided to start noting my calories, miles walked and weight in my calendar every day. I can find this info on MFP and Map My Walk, but I like the visual of seeing it when I open the calendar every morning. I also added a section in my calendar notes with a weekly weigh in number and pounds to go to my next goal. I also noted some of the reasons why I want to lose weight and some important upcoming events that I want to enjoy a bit thinner. I like to review this page whenever the desire to snack hits me.

Hope everyone has a great day!

    Good morning everyone.

    Happy Lincoln's Birthday
Lincoln's Birthday is a legal holiday in some U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, New Jersey, and New York. On September 29, 2008, the Senate and General Assembly of New Jersey enacted The Public Employee Pension and Benefits Reform Act of 2008 (Section 36 of P.L.1995, c.259 (C.52:14-17.31a)) eliminating Lincoln's Birthday as a public holiday for the purposes of conducting State government business, an act which also amended and supplemented various parts of retirement and other benefits for certain public employees. It is observed on the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth on February 12, 1809.
In other states, a celebration of Lincoln's birthday is combined with a celebration of Washington's Birthday or as part of Presidents' Day. These celebrations occur on the same day as the Federal holiday, the third Monday of February, and not on Washington's or Lincoln's actual birthday.

@cblue- I am sorry for how down life has got you feeling. I will say this though as a single parent of an 18yr old who is doing things I don’t approve of (smoking pot). I have used your son’s story as an example of the consequences of one’s actions on everyone in their life. Assured I haven’t used anyone’s name when talking to my son. I shared it in hopes that he would see I am not just a nagging more and he is not invincible. I will keep you in my prayers.
@Kelmomto3- I like your statement of activity with a purpose
@LaurieK- hope you feel better soon
@Karen- I am so sorry to hear the sad news about your friend. I will keep her in my prayers along with her family. Yes, 1790 is based on 1lb per week. Still a little confused….when looking at the home page should that net total match the goal to lose or as long as the net total is in the green I am fine? Sorry you all know math is hard for me, so I am trying to understand through visual. I always assumed as long as the net was the color green I was in the good but I am not sure that was accurate.
@Hansea- Glad you and your friend had good conversation
    @Goinstd- Congrats on resisting temptation

AFM: Thursday truth for me is realizing I need to grow more of back bone with my recently adult son. I tend to walk on egg shells with him because I don’t want him to storm out and leave being he can’t take care of himself in any way right now. He has no clue because he doesn’t listen on how hard life would be without my help.

It sounds like your fiance's love language is gifts, while yours is...not. At least not gifts of food! You might try telling him that you love that he's constantly thinking of you and suggest another way to "gift" you than by bringing food. Going for a walk together? Bringing you flowers? Taking out the trash?

@skinnyjeanzbound - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just be there for someone going through such a difficult time.

@mnwalkingqueen‌ - I go by the "net = green = good" visual as well, but am starting to think that's not the best approach for me because I'm eating back all of my exercise calories. My calorie goal is set to my TDEE, which I believe already takes my activity level, including exercise, into account. I've decided to aim for my TDEE calorie goal for a while, not eating back exercise calories, and see what happens.

@holly--on your home page the total that says "net" underneath should be as close to 1790 as possible. Red or green doesn't really matter. For example, 1791 would be red, but would still be great. On the other hand 850 would be green and would be terrible for your body if it happened consistently.
