I was told as long as I used 42, my answer would be right. That's why I eat everything as either 42 calories, grams, or ounces, and try to eat 42 total servings a day of things. I figure the means I'll reach the correct weight. Is that not how it works?

    Do you count calories?
    How thoroughly?
Does it seem to correlate well with weight loss / gain?
I've heard from one or two people that this might actually be how to lose weight.

You bet I do. I count all calories I consume and log them too.

Surprisingly, calorie counting does confirm whether I'm eating too little (lose weight), eating too much (gain weight) or eating just the right amount (maintain weight).

Those people you heard from on this....are spot on. :)

I did for 18 months, and because of what that taught me, I don't have to anymore.

That is so neat that you have chosen to not literally count anymore. I am hoping one day to intuitively know what a serving looks like. I am not there yet, though.

You have to detox with clean carbs to loose weight. Counting calories only works if you set your calorie goal to 1200 per day and then do 3 hours of HIIT cardio at midnight while drinking banana juice.

    I like the humor! :D

I've lost about 50lbs since starting to track calories on this site. I did lose about 40lbs before that by eating smaller portions (sadly, to pay back student loans while working as a post doc; I wasn't even trying to lose weight).

Me! I count calories! 20-ish lbs gone and still going. I've blocked out all the woo, eat what I like, and exercise for my beer calories.

    It's working like a charm.

    I like you

I started out counting, lost 20 pounds, hung out a maintenance for a while, then lost fifteen more. Now been at maintenance for two years. Counted the entire time. I will always weigh, count, and log. It takes very little time and I'll always be sure of maintaining without worrying.
