Unexpected results of weight loss

Well done everybody this is by far my Fav thread1

I've lost about 38 lbs so far and have 12 more to go but I already noticed some changes:
- I never thought I'd enjoy working out so much that now, whenever I can't, I get restless and itchy
- I never thought it was possible to freeze even more
- it hurts when I'm lying on my side because less fat around my knees
- I get tipsy pretty fast
- I never thought I'd see my collarbones
- I'm surprised that shaving my legs takes way less time
- I never thought I'd say no to sweet things. Before changing my diet I was able to eat a whole bar of my favorite chocolate in one sitting. Now sometimes I can only eat a tiny square of it because it just seems to be too sweet
- I still can't believe that I'm down 3 pant sizes and pick up the wrong size over and over again3 -
I have hot flashes (I'm 52, need I say more) BUT they are balanced out by the fact that I an cold most of the time!2

I often walk the high school track. Yesterday there was a girl's soccer match but I still walked 6 miles while watching the game. I never would have done that before, too self conscious, so that's NSV #1.
There were a couple of mom's from the other team that kept watching me and we would smile at each other as I passed by.
Our team was winning and I wish the ladies team better luck next game and told them I only had one more lap to do. As I came around for the last lap, they stood up and applauded me! That's NSV #2
I received more encouragement from a couple of strangers than I've gotten from some of my "friends".21 -

OK, let's be clear: I don't think this is an important thing, or even desirable thing. I wouldn't post it on the NSV thread, for example, because I don't think of it as a victory. But it is one heck of a big frickin' surprise, so I'm going for it on the "unexpected" thread.
I've laughingly said in the past that the only way to get a thigh gap is with Photoshop. Guess what? At goal weight, this (very non-appearance-conscious) li'l ol' lady has a thigh gap, even with healthily muscular quads from my rowing hobby.
And the universe says "Ha!".18 -
It takes much more hot water to fill the bath to a reasonable height now I am displacing so much less of it.
Bonier legs are harder to shave.

Different body shapes/genetics? Funny that you got it without purposely working for it and some people want it so badly.0 -
I have been maintaining for abot a year now but a few of the things I noticed on the journey:
1. my daughter can clasp her hands together behind me when she hugs me now
2. I am definitely in the cold camp (never used to wear coats unless it was raining)
3. Had to get my wedding ring re-sized
4. had to buy a belt one day at lunch because when I stood up my jeans didn't
5. I hate missing workouts
6. I can outlast/out walk/out exercise my kids and grandkids!5 -

I always say if a woman doesn't have friends who are slimmer, richer, more happily married and/or more successful then there is something wrong with her. But apparently we (obese, overweight) are good friends because not matter what we are otherwise, we can't compete on appearance. You'll see who your real friends are4 -

Yes, thanks for your input joinn68. I'm very sad to realize that some "friends" aren't truly supportive, they just were glad I used to make them look better by comparison. Just wow. Shake my head.2 -

At dinner with a friend, I clasped my hands on the table and jumped because I thought I was holding someone else's hand! WEIRD! I hadn't realized how bony my hands had become despite my rings all falling off my fingers.
Selfies! I've always hid from the camera - ALWAYS. But I even took a shot of my tush post-workout and shared to a group this morning
Wrinkles around my eyes, not a positive, but definitely an effect of weight loss. I'm sure they were always there, but they are more visible now that they're not filled with fat.2 -

My mantra last spring when I first started running was, "I'm coming for you, clavicles!" And I got them! Now my mantra is, "Die, belly fat, die!" :-) After 3 pregnancies and a c-section, it may never happen, but it's still a motivating goal.

Yes!! I live in California, where our water bill is outrageous since we're in a record drought, and needing to run the dishwasher sometimes 2-3 times a day does not make the boyfriend happy! hahaha0 -

Some things I have noticed after being morbidly obese and losing a little over 10% of my body mass in the past year.
1. I was in denial about being in 4XL clothing. I kept thinking 3XL is not a good place to be in but at least I don't have to wear 4XL shirts. The "3XL" shirts I was wearing were vanity sized and much bigger than the average. I tried to transition to 2X stuff too early and got bummed out they didn't look good on me. Now I know in about 5-10 pounds they will fit AND look good because I am in between sizes!
2. Scale fluctuations do not affect me as much. It is much more normal for me to weigh the same 5 days in a row, gain a pound, then drop 2 pounds than lose 1/3 pounds per day. But oh I wish the process was more linear. I also have the self awareness to think about the previous days sodium and water intake to judge how much that changed the number.
3. I am vain about my face. It is one of the last places fat likes to accumulate on me. It was very disheartening when I lost it and started to look like a smiling bowling ball. Now it is coming back! Cheeks and underchin areas are much smaller.
4. My bed feels much more comfortable and laying on my back doesn't make me feel short of breath because of too much fat pushing on my rib cage.
5. My car is roomier since it stretched out from me being so large.
6. The most unexpected change for me was rocking in my wife's glider chair the other day and realizing the wood isn't making the little creaking noises of distress it used to.13 -
My standards are getting higher and higher. 4 months ago I was happy just to be off my blood pressure medicine. Today I was disappointed at 121/69 which is 2 points into PRE-hypertension.2

Love reading all of these! Congratulations all. For me it was self confidence, self esteem, and feeling like there isn't anything I couldn't do. It did take me several years for my brain to accept that I was a fit athletic looking guy after being 318. I remember when this picture was taken (2 years after meeting my goal) feeling like I didn't belong with this running group of lifelong athletes. Back row first on the left....
