What nobody tells you about losing weight

That you may reach a day when you will be scared to lose more- b/c you no longer recognize yourself. (I felt that way for a week- but it has passed). Change- even when SO good- can be scary as well as exciting.10

Loose skin is the biggest thing. I knew I would happen but how I still look fat because of the skin.7

-the major confidence boost
-loving how you're starting to look in clothes
-how emotional it can be
-the feeling when you see an old picture of yourself and see how far you've come
-shoe size goes down... This was something I didn't expect hahaha
-feeling guilty sometimes for eating more than you should but should learn to have a healthy relationship with food
-being happy with what you see in the mirror
It's an emotional roller coaster but I love it8 -
GaleHawkins: Congratulations on doing a great job.
MimiOfTheLusciousLawn: Wow, super job and so close to your goal. It definitely feels better being lighter and I am so glad I have done it but it is going to take some getting used to. I was put on a diet by a doctor when I was in the 6th grade because I weighed 160 pounds as best I can remember so this is a life long problem. In high school and most of my adult life I was around 260 to 290 and when I dieted I would get down to 180 but not for long. When I reach my goal I will weigh slightly less than I did in the 6th grade.
@NealNH, I was standing in the lunch line in 6th grade when another student jeered at me "you're so fat, you must weigh 200 pounds!" Little did he know that I had weighed myself that very morning and tipped the scale at 201. I was devastated. Hopefully, another few months and I'll be under my 6th grade weight, too!13 -
How your new, smaller body is still shaped nearly the same, just not as wide.8

After losing 82 lbs. to date, I've discovered jeans can be comfortable and keep me more aware of changes in body. Before always wore sweats at home.

It takes a lot of will power and you just don't get over the discipline needed to continue your maintenance. I have noticed that I don't crave certain foods anymore and have reduced portion sizes. People look at you differently, in a good way. Am trying to get over the yoyo weight problem.

I became overweight beginning in the third grade and your story definitely reminded me of how it felt to be the wrong size growing up. I remember trying to squeeze my knees as close as possible when I sat on a bench with my peers because I was painfully aware that I took up a lot more space than they did. Now I'm always surprised at how much room there is everywhere I go.15 -
What no one told me... Was how much less space my clothes would take in drawers and the closet. It makes sense, but to actually see the changes? I'm using 3 drawer baby dressernow and it has space... (down to a 10 from a 22)
Same goes for packing for a trip. I can fit WAY more in my suitcase - more than I need really. I think I need smaller luggage now, too!
I've noticed this too - even realised how much lighter my new clothes are compared to the old ones!6 -

I notice the same thing. No more piles of clothes. I can even have my winter clothes in my closet at the same time.7 -
I lost 27 pounds in three months. I have noticed people treat me differently either better or they make comments on what I eat. I have had people tell that the pizza I eat is not diet food or that some food is bad. I have hip bones that I never had before. My butt is firmer and I love my toned thighs. I LOVE getting new clothes. I went from a size 10 to a 6 which I just found out this week when I bought new pants. I was looking at 6 thinking there is no way and then it happened again. My brain hasn't caught up to my new body.11

You look great!
I'll second that! x1 -
Best. Thread. Ever.
Your back, knees, and feet will start to feel better. Not so sore after a long day at work.
I get bored easier. No more sitting at the computer or tv at home, I want to get out and do something.
I miss bread.
Connecting with people in the same boat. I had a lengthy conversation with a stranger in the yogurt section as we were both trying to find the best yogurt with the right amount of protein, calories, sodium and carbs we wanted.14 -
How your self esteem plummets when you have to walk around with super baggy clothes because you cannot keep affording to buy new clothes for your forever shrinking waistline.
I just bought new jeans a month ago and they're already baggy in spots that aren't cute.
I'm wearing a size 16 with a belt to work when I wear a 10 and I feel so unprofessional.12 -

I remember being nearly 50 pounds heavier and wishing I was around the weight I am now. Now don't get me wrong, it's amazing how much better I feel and how much stronger I am, but back then I never would have thought I would still be not happy with my physique at this weight.
I still want lower bodyfat and more muscle gains.
I know what you mean! I passed my original goal weight already and I'm ecstatic with the progress, but I can't believe that I'm not satisfied with my body yet. I haven't been this light in over 25 years, but I find that now I'm greedy...I don't just want to be thinner, I want my ideal body which mean looking strong and fit8 -

Same here. Two pregnancies and 56 lbs weight loss = lots of saggy bits. It's no fun.
FWIW, I think you look great though.2 -

I know what you mean. I had to buy three wardrobes in a school year because I couldn't run around with my elementary special education students in poorly fitting clothes. I bought things on eBay in order to afford it. There was no way I could have gone into the multiple parent meetings I had in super messed up clothes.1
