How your self esteem plummets when you have to walk around with super baggy clothes because you cannot keep affording to buy new clothes for your forever shrinking waistline.
I just bought new jeans a month ago and they're already baggy in spots that aren't cute.
I'm wearing a size 16 with a belt to work when I wear a 10 and I feel so unprofessional.
I shop at thrift stores for this very reason- I got into and out of two pairs of jeans from there and they only cost me $3.50 each (name brand too). I've already donated them back.17 -
3. How even though I don't see a whole lot of change yet, I can vividly see my success. And how much that actually means (if anyone would have told me at the beginning I'd spend 6 months barely loosing 18 lbs and still not look a whole lot different, I may not have even done this! Now I say, BRING IT!)
This is exactly what I needed to read this morning. Thanks for posting.7 -
Sunflowerhippi: I know exactly how you feel about the loose skin! I've lost 100 pounds already and there is nowhere there isn't hanging skin! My arms, my stomach, my thighs, my butt....everything hangs! I'm sure I'll be looking at skin surgery at some point in time

This is a thing I've been trying to do but it's a little bit harder for me as I'm 4'11 so need to find pants that aren't too long. It's hard finding things in regular stores as sometimes the short is too long but in thrift stores it's nearly impossible! haha. I can do the tops though3 -

If you find thrift shop pants that fit you well most places, but are too long, try taking them to a tailor. My local tailor charges $10 to shorten pants. She does a nice job, has them done in just a few days, and if you paid thrift store price in the first place they will still be a bargain even with the cost of tailoring (as compared to new pants).11 -
I can actually cross my legs! Hahaha9

How frumpy you might feel when you're in transition. Yes, you are physically smaller, but it all kind of sits "funny" now and nothing fits quite right. I thought I'd be stoked about getting halfway to my goal but now I just want to hurry up and get there so I can relearn how to dress myself!30

My shoulders are wider than my hips! Yeah!12

Something else that I struggle with is using up the excess energy without irritating others.
Bonus to my friends, since I'm a lightweight I offer to be DD.
So true! I sit at my desk in work and get up just to walk around to burn off some energy, and wereas before I'd find that sitting down for long periods was a pretty brilliant hobby, these days I want to be out and about, just walking my dogs and enjoying the great outdoors.
HA! That's me! Who'd have thought I would actually look forward to exercising and not really caring what the weather is! I used to despise sweating. Now I know sweating means its working. Bring it on!11 -

I remember finding a few new 'friends' who all of a sudden would talk to me, or notice me, or remember my name next time I visited their establishment when I had been going there for years or had mutual friends etc....
Some people obviously let vanity cloud their judgement.
Or maybe I just had a better attitude after and was more approachable?
Nah..I was always jolly
Yes! To be honest though, those that couldn't give me the time of day as a heavier person really are not worth my time. It shows to me their true character. Maybe that sounds mean and I should be more forgiving?3 -
This thread is amazing oh my gosh !
When you pass your goal weight but still want to be smaller and then start looking at those body fat percentage pictures6 -
Best. Thread. Ever.
Your back, knees, and feet will start to feel better. Not so sore after a long day at work.
I get bored easier. No more sitting at the computer or tv at home, I want to get out and do something.
I miss bread.
Connecting with people in the same boat. I had a lengthy conversation with a stranger in the yogurt section as we were both trying to find the best yogurt with the right amount of protein, calories, sodium and carbs we wanted.
This! I didn't even think about it until I just read this. I cannot just sit in my chair all night and watch TV like I used to. When it's not a gym day, I'll take an evening stroll around my neighborhood because I just want to be DOING something. If it's not that, I'm scrubbing the tile, cleaning the bathtub, starting a pinterest project, etc.7 -
@sandrachis
Very cool. And yes, treat yourself on essentials.
@acorsaut89
Seeing the different ways people treat you makes those true friends even more valued, no? I'm sure you've told them, too.
@tatirod
Great attitude, gal! You can do it.
There will always be some people who turn you down. You have to learn to do what you're doing: pay attention to it for yourownself.
@NealNH - You'll get there. When I made goal, I kept seeing my mother walking toward me from mirrors. Which was strange enough, since she died in 1970, just shy of her 52nd b'day and I'm just turned 64 ... but we also had a rocky relationship. (I know she did the best she could, and went through many trials.) I kept telling myself that I'm not her, and much happier than she was. I've gotten used to my reflection. Mostly.
@tomteboda - you go, girl! What an accomplishment!
@rbfdac - There is definitely some vanity sizing. When I was in high school, I swam competitively, weighed a maternally-enforced 125 lbs, and wore size 12 pants. At age 64 and 140-145 lbs, I'm now wearing size 10 and 8, and was able to zip up a 6, though it showed every wrinkle in my underwear.
BUT. (And this is a BUT as big as mine used to be.) Vanity sizing does NOT negate the super job you've done for yourself. It's not so much about the specific size number: What matters is that you're, what - three or four sizes smaller than you were, using current sizing. I bet those lovely cheekbones in your photo didn't show up 59 pounds ago, either. Way to go!
@1stgardengirl - what I just said - same for you. Congratulations!
@carriejglenn -- Excellent!
@NewMEEE2016 -
>>scary change.
ayup.
@sunflowerhippi -- you look fat?? that looks like an hourglass figure to me.
@Doit4theOMG - wow. beautiful photo and great realizations.
@MimiOfTheLusciousLawn - re "just not as wide" - do you feel you have more to lose? Whether or no, the "not as wide" should feel great.
@chel325
about those size 16 jeans -
I was going to ask about thrift stores, but see later in the thread. But if you want to send me a PM, I've got a pair of almost unworn size 12 gray slacks I could send you. Not size 10, but closer. I'd been meaning to bring them to chorus and ask if anyone wants them, but you now have priority. (Yeah, they might need hemming, but can't beat the price.) )
@vherreere123 - I've also had people tell me that what I was eating wasn't on my diet. I just said, "Yes it is - I have the calories for it today."
@2012retiree - Great loss! I'm even wearing shorts at home ... though not outdoors.
@peggymenard - yeah, maintenance takes work, too. You've lost; you can beat the yoyos.
@valente347 -
>>Now I'm always surprised at how much room there is everywhere I go.
Great! Which is, by the way, how you're looking.
@OfficialDSXIII and @cglouie @chelseyperry _ great attitude!
@dramaqueen45 - great loss, and great thinking.

You don't worry about how much space your going to take up in a car full of people or on a plane or movie theater.
You can start looking at clothes on a rack and know without trying it on that it will look good on you.
You notice the difference in the way people treat even people you may have known most of your life.
You get a lot more attention than you used to, it's not so easy to go out without being notice anymore.
You don't feel like people are judging you when your eating in public16 -

Why not just buy yourself a couple nice, but inexpensive things while you're transitioning (you could even get them in a thrift shop) ? I think it is REALLY important for motivation. You'll feel a LOT better, and get compliments, which will spur you on to reach your goal (when you're still wearing big clothes, no one will notice you've lost weight). I've cleaned out my closet and packed the old clothes away (some very nice- waiting for someone deserving to donate them to) and bought myself a couple pair of SKINNY JEANS and a couple cute tops I think it's important to BE GOOD TO OURSELVES **NOW** and not wait until we are "perfect". It's a process to be embraced & enjoyed.21 -

This is why I've slowed down my weight loss, purposely, to about a lb a week. It was a downer, b/c I was all set to keep going at 2lbs per week- it was easy & really motivating. But the skin thing started to worry me.4 -
