Looking forward to getting my "hallow"4 -
That I would (still) have no idea how to dress myself.
I've always tried to just blend in and find things that fit decently or were loose. It didn't really matter what they looked like or if I liked them because there often wasn't much choice involved. So now I have no idea what my style is or where I want to buy clothes because there are so many stores I just never fit into before.
I'm really excited that I can fit into clothes that aren't plus-sized and that I've been able to clear out a lot of my closet, but I don't know what I want to get as replacements. I'm still buying basic black trouser pants and ugly shirts or shapeless dresses for work, but at some point I'll probably want some cute fitted skirts and jackets. Do I want to keep wearing cheap t-shirts and jeans when I'm casual, or should I go crazy with prints and accessories? And this will probably happen at least two more times (to some degree), since I'm still planning on losing another 50 pounds. It's a weird new stress to have.19 -
That I would get almost embarrassed about the amount of compliments that I'm getting on how good I'm looking and how much weight I've lost!20

Staring at my forearms because they're so much smaller17

I felt the same way for a long time, I ended up taking a good friend of mine that is into fashion shopping with me. I went to the dressing room and one store and she just kept bringing me stuff to try on. She was way honest with me on what looked good, which helped. It also helped that she brought me stuff to try on that I would have looked right past in the store. It taught me to try on things even when I don't think they will look good on me or were out of my old comfort zone.13 -

That's not a bad idea. I need to find a willing friend who actually likes to shop!5 -
My hips bones and bum bones are sometimes uncomfortable when I'm lying or sitting down. I've also stopped waking my boyfriend up snoring all the time6

And that liberating feeling when you manage to wear those pants/trousers that doesn't fit you back then.
That's when the realization hits me! 'I've lost weight!' Lol9 -

I've finally gotten back to somewhat "normal" periods after almost 5 years of struggling. I never thought I would actually be excited to get a period!
Are you also in your 50's? The average age of menopause is 52. It is defined as going 12 months without any bleeding. If a woman then spots or has a period, she needs to be seen by a doctor. It could be normal and due to hormonal changes, but it could also be a sign of cancer.
No, I'm actually 39 and I had a non-stop period for about 18 months. Doctors couldn't figure it out and birth control didn't work (we tried many). They wanted to do a hysterectomy but I refused, given my age. I also knew that our bodies are miraculous and can fix themselves when they're treated right. That's when I changed my lifestyle completely. I'm living proof that we can get our health back under control.-1 -
How truly wonderful it feels to go down in sizes ...you feel great and people sense your confidence.

I do, yes. I'm willing to travel, but I should probably save that money for the new clothes!5 -
*sighs* the loose skin. When you start at 367 lbs - there is simply NO WAY to avoid it... I lost 100 lbs in my early forties, and now at 51 it is still there... I took a LONG break... but, I didn't gain the weight back!
And, I am learning to LOVE the loose skin... the saggier my belly, the more I know I am doing the right thing. I have a collection of girdles and I never leave the house without one on... and the silhouette is getting better. When I get down to 180, I am going to find a way to get the funds together and get it removed. I don't care if I have Frankenstein scars - I will be happy to look good in clothes.
It's not like my career as a swimsuit model is going to be over... lol
But, it is somewhat awful to realize, after 40 years of trying every crazy diet on earth, that the only thing that REALLY works, is burning more calories than you take in... How much money could I have saved, by now, if I had skipped all those crazy pills, creams and gadgets?
The motivating factor, at 40, was that my knees and ankles burned when I put my feet on the floor in the morning... losing a 100 lbs stopped that... but, age is bringing it back - so... back on plan, again...
The elliptical machine is my friend.... The elliptical machine is my friend....60 -
LOVE this thread!
Seeing my knee again-sounds weird but when I am in the bath tub I can now see an actual knee!
Being able to cross my legs
Not getting out of breath when using the stairs
How it feels wonderful when people compliment you but yet somewhat embarrassing (hard to describe)
The special feeling you have when getting measured for a bra and the sales girl says you are a 34DDD (This is from 40DD)
and comments about your "small" frame when you have never in your life had anything be called small!
Eating lunch with a coworker and genuinely only wanting one piece of pizza because you had a good breakfast and not feeling pressured to take more because of your progress!
Knowing your family and friends are so proud of your efforts!
Getting compliments on a dress you have worn multiple times when larger (it still fits because it is the all purpose wrap!) but yet it looks different to others because you are smaller! (Go figure!)
Being able to be a role model of health for your children25 -

Buy new clothes that show your confidence. You worked hard for this new body, don't hide it ❤️

I'm at the before. I've been to the "after" but then I gained a bunch with my daughter. When I was in shape I looked SO good but I didn't realize it. Now looking back I see that I still saw myself as big, even when I looked amazing. This time will be different. In shape for life this time, and confidence is my goal.20

Regardless of weight loss, any post-menopausal bleeding, whether a suspected period or just spotting, needs to be checked out. Please make an appointment with your doctor.
I do!0 -

I know what you mean - I thought menopause was taking over and it's sad to know I may have been too overweight for my body to behave normally.1 -

I'd go with you but even with also being in America, 1300 miles or so is a long way to travel to shop!
I love this thread so much! I've only lost 20 pounds so far but I've noticed:
1) Things in my closet fit better and in tops I've even been able to go down a bit already. I have the feeling my stomach/butt are going to stay the same size as long as they can.
2) I NEED my workout, especially at the end of a long day (can't wait to go work out tonight after work).
3) Like someone said earlier, it's easier when you are actually ready. I'm not sure why, it just is.
4) I'm not starving all the time like I thought I would be. Your body adjusts.
5) You need to celebrate the little wins. I've never done that before and I think it's so important now. I've lost weight previously but still saw myself as "Fat", even when I was in a healthy range because nothing short of the number on the scale that I saw as acceptable was good enough. Needless to say, I gained it all back and then some.
6) Also been mentioned but you have to do it for you. People won't necessarily be there to build you up all the time. You have to be there for yourself and cheer for yourself. Having awesome MFP friends doesn't hurt either!
7) SO much more energy already! I didn't think I would have noticeable changes that fast.
I'm sure there are more but I'm loving all the positive things on this thread and can't wait to experience a lot of them!

What the fat was covering up... I found a lump on my thyroid and told the doctor it had sprung up out of nowhere. He was like, well, did you lose weight recently? Sometimes the fat obscures the growth of nodules. (Just got the biopsy results, BTW, it's not cancer.)
Also, the f-ing bra thing. Nothing fits, and they're too expensive, especially in my crazy size, to buy new ones every time my boobs shrink.21 -

This is so very true. Every time I meet somebody new I am left dazed by the realization that, unlike all my long-time friends, this person doesn't know me as the one who was fat, or the one who lost weight. They know me as someone "normal", as someone new.21 -

You will see someone you havent seen in a while and the first thing they blurt out is "you've lost weight". A Doctor in the family grilled me on the spot (at a bbq my wife was throwing) on what am I doing. I gave him a very detailed response while holding a heavy bag of charcoal (basically stop what your doing and explain yourself right now- it had been a looong while since they saw me).

How much happier life seems
Being able to go into amusement parks without worrying you are too big for the rides
Going to the doctors and not having to hear a lecture about how I am killing myself with food
How much racing becomes addicted14 -
Your "shape" might not even be close to the shape you were when you weighed less. I had chubby legs as a teen but more of an hourglass shape on top. NOW i have ZERO butt (yes I know squats but my knees are gross so I hate doing them) My boobs are about as small as ever and my belly is a strange shape. Things I kept from long ago don't fit "right" even though they fit.
Bathing suit shopping wasn't any easier but I kept in mind I was a 22 two years ago and I just bought a 10/12 in the REGULAR SECTION. I have a hard time remembering not to go straight to the plus sized section of any store. I've shopped in the plus size for the last 20 years.....23 -

Very, very true. I work in a hospital and we get new residents every year, so the last group didn't catch me as a morbidly obese person. I forget that until I make a remark about being fat or big and get a funny look. I've actually ended up showing a few my profile pic here just to see the reactions of someone who didn't see the gradual losses.
