Janetr okc
Griffin is my heart walking around outside of my body.
10 y.o grandson - my son's son.
He has a 7 y.o sister Jillian who is with me right now. She is a dog whisperer. I will post pic of her later.
DJ The white fluffy dog (Bailey) in the picture I posted a page or two back is the Coton du Tulear. He was supposed to be a therapy dog but he was expelled from therapy dog school because he started screaming bloody murder every time he was brushed. Sensitive soul. All I know about Cotons is that they originated in Madagascar and were domesticated by pirates to serve as sources of entertainment on their ships. They are clowns, very very smart, love to learn tricks, and would rather perform than eat. They vocalize hilariously and understand dozens of words; sometimes I think Bailey is actually trying to talk to me. He weighs 12 lbs and his fur is like, well, ... cotton.
My poor Griffin says he is just like Bailey. He doesn't scream when you brush him, but he did get expelled from school, and he is a sensitive soul. The private school he attended the last 2 years expelled him for dropping the F-bomb. It's a long story, but he had used the F-word earlier this year, not knowing what it meant. Nobody would tell the poor kid what it meant and why it wasn't appropriate to use, so I finally did. Everybody else assumed he knew. Like Bailey, Griffin is way way smart, but has social adjustment challenges which leave him miserable and feeling shame and anger. He is getting good help with all of that, but at the age of 10, he is reading on a 9th grade level and not as good at socializing as his 7 year old sister. He has made great strides in all of his problem areas, but what finally got him expelled was really so unfortunate. He was outside at recess time reading in a gazebo when 4 classmates, 2 boys & 2 girls, came into the gazebo and started talking inappropriately about another classmate who happens to be a friend of Griffin's. They were using the F-word and also saying some things that 10 year olds should not be discussing about Griffin's friend and his friend's girlfriend, all of which was a made up story. Griffin tried to ignore them, but finally got really mad and confronted them, asking, "Wait a minute, did you just say (and then repeated what had just been said which included the F-word)". He was completely aware that another little girl had been lurking around outside the gazebo, eavesdropping and really just waiting for something to tattle on, but his anger took over. So she triumphantly ran to tattle to the teacher, because Griffin had raised his voice enough that she was able to make out what he had said, and so he was expelled because of a zero tolerance probation they had put him on after previous incidents. He cried for hours. He is such a gentle soul, and he was defending his friend, but it didn't matter. So he has been spending a lot of time with me the last week. We looked up 10 people who were expelled from school and went on to accomplish great things. Then we flew kites and picked up trash, slept in a tent, played with the dogs, made an omelette, looked up Greek & Latin word roots of dinosaur names, watched Jurassic World, looked at the baby geese on the pond, sat for a long time without saying anything...

Can you explain this just a little bit, Mary? I am going to start lifting heavy so I want to familiarize myself with the nomenclature. Thanks!

Walked non-stop in the pool this afternoon. Felt wonderful! The past 2 days I have craved spaghetti with dressing on it. Maybe my carbs have been low or something. Good thing I have exercised like I have for the past 3 days.
Beautiful sunset; looks like you have an uninstructed view. I could sit in the spa with a glass of wine every night, if this is the show you get.

Ready to leave for my vacation. Only sad part is I will not be able to log in at all while gone and will kill my 170+ days streak. I know others have many more days in a row but this is the highest I've ever gotten! lol
The flooding is still continuing in Houston. It is down south of the city, Angelton, Lake Jackson, etc etc. I have a good friend who is on the "right" side of a hwy and she has all her valuable never can be replaced items in the back of her car ready to flee if that river crosses that highway. This video shows where she lives.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q9H8MepGt4&feature=youtu.be
At around the 1:45 mark you see a highway with cars going down it. Her how is right next to that highway on the dry side. The water just keeps rising. And it keeps raining. While we haven't had much rain in our part of the woods they are still getting daily downpours. Thousands of people have been flooded now. I feel blessed with the small problems I have from the water.

Ketone Karen - 10 years old is a 'hard' age; for boys AND girls. Our 10-year-old DYGD came home and repeated the word, she had heard the boys says. Her mother about 'stroked'; and, told her that it was an 'ugly' word and not one that anybody should say, and she better NOT say it again, especially in the presence of other people. Mother is very modest; so an explanation was not forthcoming. By the time DOS had come home too much time had passed for him to 'bring it up' and then be expected to punish her for it. They were always brought up with 'swift, immediate punishment, and appropriate for what had been done or said'. I was a stay-at-home mother until my youngest one was put into daycare; but, I did take a week off when 'something' was going 'on' at the daycare that made him 'not want to go'. DOS had been saying he did not want to go for several weeks. So, I dropped in one day after watching a girl cling to DOS the second she came in. When I walked in, the owner was 'forcing' DYS to hit others for misbehaving. He turned around and saw me; and, acted like he was getting on to him for 'hitting' others. I 'know' what I heard and that was not what was happening. I called my DS and asked if she could keep them for me for a week so I'd have time to find another place. Started calling around about daycare centers to friends; several of them had taken their children out and moved them to another one. Went to visit them, unannounced; and the kids all seemed very happy. I told her that I was 'unhappy' at the other place, something just wasn't right. DYS never gave me a moment's trouble about going to daycare until a few weeks earlier. She said she'd make room for them; as several people had change daycare's to her place. Come to find out, he was a pedophile (who had worked for his sister at a daycare that was closer to where we had lived at the time). I did not know it; but, about 3 days later, he got arrested for some things he had been doing to a child who was kin to him by marriage.
Wait until they reach puberty and start noticing girls ... their language really gets bad; and, they 'talk' about each other.
I remember when our DYS came home and he and DYGD were sitting on their back porch and she, for no reason, spit in his face. He got very mad at her and told her that 'nobody spit in his F-word face'; and, came home STILL mad. I asked him why he did not just pull her over his knee and spank her? He was afraid that his brother would get 'upset' with him. A few minutes later DOS called and apologized her what she had done. She had gone inside and admitted what she had done and what DYS had said to her. Verbatim. They spanked her twice; one for the spitting; the other for 'repeating' a bad word. DOS asked DYS why he had not pulled her over his knee and spanked her ... he said 'he was too upset' to do that. She had to come down and apologize to him.
I know when my granddaughters were going to a daycare, I'd come pick them up, never at the same time. I knew that DDnL#1 had been trying to potty train our DYGD and had asked that she be allowed to wear big girl panties during the waking hours. Twice I picked her up during nap time and she had on big girl panties UNDER a diaper (of course they were wet). I asked the owner 'if' training little girls was any different than training little girls and then questioned the wet panties being put on with a diaper over them? I thought she was going to go ballistic. She fired the girl on the spot. I was not trying to get anybody 'in trouble'; but she was supposed to be with the children in this older class; but, would bring her baby with her and sit in the office. Owner had already told her that she needed to put the baby in the baby room and be in the room with the toddlers as well; and not in the office for any reason.
I'm glad that I don't have any young children that have to be in a daycare center with a large number of children in attendance. After they got older and I was home, I'd go pick them up from school and they did not have to stay there anymore.

A little background on me. I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver last August and pre-diabetes. I was told if I didn't lose weight and change my life style I would be looking at a transplant in my near future. That was unacceptable to me. I have a husband that I love, a son who Im not ready to leave yet and a grandaughter who is every thing to me. I am only 54 and even tho I was acting and feeling like I was 80, I wanted to fight this with everything I had. I started at 272 and am now down to 185. Was wearing size 24 jeans now I wear 14. Better yet my liver enzymes are normal and my a1c is now a normal 5.4. I have taken up running, yoga and am starting kickboxing next week. I have never been this active in my whole life. I feel fantastic. I walked bloomsday in may which is a 12k, did a 5k the following weekend, have one more coming up in august and went ziplining. I couldnt do that last summer because I was over their weight limit. My life has changed soooo much over the last 9 months and I have to say that the best thing Ive ever done is join MFP. The support and acceptance that I have found here was the difference between succeeding and failing for me. Id like to think that maybe I could have done this by my self, but lets be honest....I couldnt do it before I found MFP. I like reading everyone elses stories and I cheer inside when someone has a good day, or achieved a goal. Its begining to feel like family and reading this thread with old friends and new seems so comforting and comfortable. Its a pleasure to meet you all and I hope to get to know you all better.

PAULINAyou are an inspiration. I have been feeling sorry for myself a lot lately and not responding or sharing, but after reading your post, I am back on track

Hi all,
I have emailed Penny, but I hope this will reach her. We have just heard that, because of our good times, we will be docking at Longyearbyen Main Pier at 9.00. This is different to the original plan. We should be off the boat around 9.15 and the first shuttle bus goes at 9.20. I hope this isn't going to mess things up for Penny.
Having an earlyish night so we are fit for tomorrow.
Excited.
Heather , nearly there.4 -
No email yet Heather, but I saw your post. No problem! As my husband always says: "This is Svalbard. Everything will work out fine."
See you at nineish!

Sure, it goes number of sets, number of reps, number of pounds. So it is warm-up sets of one set of each times five reps with 55 pounds/65 pounds/75 pounds. Then working sets of five sets times five reps with 85 pounds.
I hope this helps if it doesn't let me know. You can get the strong lift app on your phone which I use. Just Google StrongLifts.com
I have to share this picture of Shep with you because he thinks he is a kid...
Have a great day everyone!

Allison I know many professionals who would say that what you are enduring is abuse of the worst kind. I hope you are carrying out plans to become financially independent. Times are tough, but you should not have to beg to get your own earnings. Is there any way your part of joint expenses can go into the joint account and you keep the rest in your name? You earned it.1

Fancy your poocher is so cute!2

Mary I want to add my belated welcome back. It is so good to see you and Shep again. He has turned into quite the handsome young dog. Kettle bells are out for me until we figure out why the joints are so bad. I am going to PT and arm and hand strengthening is central to recovery. So I hope to be swinging again soon.

well went to the wake, paid my respects and came home...and am in my jammies....
long day and very very windy.. got the lawn done, but the wind was whipping sand and dirt and stuff all over the place...including my eyes...
Im sorta miffed at my daughter..
I did not raise either of my children to be anything but polite and courteous and respectful.. and I feel I have failed..Kyle's influence on Tracy and Taliah,I just dont know...
My Ex let them live for 108 a month in a 3 bedroom house and paid for everything except there groceries and personal stuff... they are both driving brand new cars..and after all the work I put into my dads house, now granted it isn't the Taj Mahal but I worked hard to get it clean.. and all I hear from both of them is they can't wait to find jobs that pay enough for them to get out of there.. Really? they have it made scott free almost.. They want a brand spanky new house or brand new apartment with all the bells and whistles, there whole family except for my son of course ,Is married with respectable jobs and a House... thats what they want .. they want a house... and they would love if when we move to Florida to just hand this one over to them... A No!!! we worked to hard for that.. they have a GED education and have not even tried to better themselves...What the heck is wrong with this generation that they expect everything handed to them.. we had to scrimp and save, and until I married Tom I did not own a house.. or a brand new car..I was in my late 30's.
I wish them luck, but I am just pretty peeved that for all the work that I did I get looked at like it wasn't enough...
ok enough of my spouting off... have a good night all..1 -
Barbie, can you contact Sylvia again and let us know how she is doing? Sure miss that wonderful lady.
I am with the rest of you and anxiously awaiting Heather's ship meeting up with Penny and then reading all the antics those two do.
Did a quick grocery trip today. I didn't want to have to bring to many things into the house. With parking in the driveway and having to carry sevI have got to get Charlie motivated to get out of his recliner. Some of the bags weigh low enough that he can meet me at the top of the stairs and take them in the kitchen and help me unload them. But his life is the recliner now. He did sing a little bit today along with a PBS show on the 50's music.
Got to go get the potatoes nuked pretty soon.

Sylvia hasn't logged onto MFP for the last two weeks....I sent her a personal message that she'll see when she logs on again...I miss her, too.

If I log... I lose.... this is the truth as I know it.
Hello, Ladies. Nice to see so many wonderful women over 50 supporting each other. I am 51 and hovering right at 250-251 - and pretty much DYING to drop below that.... lol.
So... here I am, counting calories, using the postal scale to weigh everything and becoming a gym-fanatic again.
I lost about a hundred pounds when I was in my low forties - which probably saved my life - but, when I started to feel SO much better, I lost the drive to continue. I managed to keep that weight off, for the most part, so thankfully, I don't have to start over from 367 pounds.
I was motivated to "get back on the wagon" when my Husband went to Physical Therapy to retrain his ankle after he broke it and had to sit in a wheelchair for several months. (I lost ten pounds just pushing him around, and hauling that stupid chair in and out of the car!) I figured if I was going to have to drive him to therapy three days a week, I could use the hour to go to the gym, myself - and to get stronger. Besides, I am a big motivator for him to do more - since I am going to the gym every day now, he has no excuse not to come with me, now that his PT is done.
Also, this year, when my company had it's Spring Get Active campaign, I was a Team Captain... and I felt I had to lead by example... let me tell you, 8000 steps a day is hard... but, after 6-8 weeks of doing it, it's becoming a habit.
So, I am all about staying with it and keeping on with the exercise. My first goal is to drop below 250 on that medical scale at the gym... then below 200. I haven't weighed below 200 since my Freshman Year in college - so that will be a huge deal for me.
I hope to spend some time here, motivating and being motivated. You are all AMAZING!
Cheers!5 -
HI.Ladies.Had a scare today.went to dr for a clearance for surgery. She said my liver enzmes were up.ordered a labs and ultrasound.Got the results.Have to change my diet and start an exercise program.Should go back to normal.

Jane: Good luck with your health. I hope you can get your liver enzymes to the healthy zone.0

Well I have a story like everyone. I started my healthy weight journey 4 years ago at 364 pounds. I was ill on meds for all kinds of things, and wheelchair bound. My journey is still progressing one step and moment at a time.0

Hello ladies: Went to the dentist today and have to go back in a couple of weeks. They found a small cavity under a previous filling so will have to remove it and put in a new one. Yuck!! Also went to PT this afternoon and I think my knees will be really sore tomorrow but glad that eventually they will be stronger and it will be easier to get on my horse. Have iced them and hope that will help. told to take ibuprofen if I need to. Have to go set up for the tea at church tomorrow morning. I think I have everything I need. Got fancy cocktail toothpicks and am making little fresh fruit skewers for it.
Larisa - Congrats on the new job.
Mary - Good to see you back!
Joyce - Glad Charlie is recovering well.
I think everyone here is almost as excited about Penny and Heather meeting as they are. Everyone take care, Sue in WA1
