What Other Factors (Besides Nutrition) Help You Succeed?

Maintenance was part of my original commitment to myself .. Logging calories in, weighing daily, getting 10,000 steps in and going for 8 hours sleep a night, drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Throwing out the unflattering don't fit anymore clothes. the change in lifestyle spilled into my consumption of just about everything- I have a job close to my home, I drive an electric car, and I cut my wardrobe down to less than 20% of quantity of items, but about 200% in quality of items.11

A sense of humor. It's a small thing, but when I started running being able to laugh at how ridiculous I probably look kept me from being overly apprehensive of judgement from others. In addition to that, silly memes and quotes like "Zombies Don't Eat Fast Food" keep my spirits and motivation up when I don't really want to run. (There's also some silly satisfaction in the knowledge that I now walk faster than my hubby. )10

For me, sleep.. Sleep was such a key factor to get things going.. 8 hours a night, even if that means I put myself to bed at 7:30...6

Learning to listen to my body.
Learning to feel good about myself NOW, because there will never be a day when any of us has finally reached "it" -- self love directs better choices, whereas better choices don't direct self love.

Giving up TV. Then sugar. Then any simple carbs. Then started logging everything. Walking dogs a good hike everyday. Gardening.4

Cooking instead of eating out, using less oil in cooking, finding exercise I enjoy, eating the food I want no matter if they're bad or not as long as I log it!3

CICO is really just not over eating....for me....and i walk and workout now on a regular basis....has to be like brushing your teeth....you just do it, everyday.....3

Taking the time to read and learn what needed to be done to be successful. It's not about fad diets, quick tricks, or restricting everything I love. The simplest approach works just fine, and I'm thankful for the many people who have shown me this.

I'm new. Third day. Trying to find right group. Looking for any suggestions. I've been working out 4-5 days a week,each day inludes 30-60 minutes of cardio, and 30 minutes of weight training. Started 2 months ago and weight was 207 lbs. I weighed yesterday and it was 207 lbs. Need to lose 50-60 lbs. Too much conflicting information to sort through! Any suggestions!!!0

for me, and I'm still a work in progress, it's learning to listen to my body and it's signals. no foods or drinks are off limits. however, if my body doesn't want it, then I won't eat it. not as easy as it sounds, but I sure as heck feel SO much better when I listen to my body. for me it's always going to be CI vs CO. if i try to restrict certain foods, it's going to be failure for me.5

I still don't "love" myself, but i don't hate myself anymore. I am very slowly learning to accept myself for who i am now, not who i think i should be.9

When I get home, I don't change into comfy clothes. I put on a pair of shorts that are slightly too tight for me. It's less comfortable to lounge on the couch this way and it keeps me from mindlessly snacking. It's a lot of fun to reach the point when those too-tight shorts start to get baggy11

Log, Log, Log... Move, Move, Move...
Not being a diet Nazi...allowing myself the occasional treat - a minibon, some chocolate, whatever - so long as I have done the exercise to earn the calories.
Not cutting out any particular nutrient - low carb is good - NO carbs ain't happening.
It's not a diet - it's eating like a "normal" person for the rest of my life. Since that doesn't come naturally, I will always have to pay attention - but, I can do it. Eventually, it will be a habit that I can't break.9 -
The biggest key to success for me was dedication. Keeping on it even when progress seemed slow. Not getting discouraged if I messed up and remembering I am not on a diet I am choosing to live a heathier happier life.5

Try some sleepy time tea and go to bed at a reasonable time and do not sleep too late in the day. And keep yourself busy doing the day. Also if none of those things help you can try lavender oil I have a friend who swears by the stuff some people do medication. Also stay off anything electronic one hour before bed. Another never eat a heavy meal before bed. Best of luck to you.

*Sad to say this but I had to become selfish. My focus the last 5 1/2 months has been on me.
*Cut negative people out of my life in 2 seconds without second guessing.
*Ingoring jealous people, comments, judgement about anything I was doing.
*Learned not to rely on anyone but myself (this mainly included workouts alone..gym alone etc)
*When I got in a funk I found a way to get out of it quickly. Stayed positive even when I didnt want to stay positive.
*Rewarded myself with big events I was unable to do at my highest weight. My final one will be skydiving.
*Forced myself in social settings to be positive, happy. I learned after doing this awhile it becomes natural.
*Encouraging others they can do it. This I found also kept me motivated.11 -

I keep it as simple as possible. Eat less and move more. Log everything. No restrictions, no fad diets, pills , cleanses or teas. I eat full fat, full calorie home cooked foods as often as possible and forgive myself when I can't. If I mess up, I move on. Just try to do better every day.
I may not be at my goal, but I'm closer than I was when I started. I have still lost almost 80 lbs from my heaviest and even though I have a ways to go I have to remember how far I have come. When I get discouraged I look at old pictures and remind myself that I KNOW how to do this! Don't sweat the small stuff!9 -
Exercise. I go walking in the woods and challenge myself to cut down my mile time or walk further than I usually do. I also started going to the gym to lift weights.
I can't get the weightloss rate I want through diet alone, so I have to exercise to supplement my deficit through calorie burning.
Changing my habits slowly, one at a time. Am I perfect? No. But I am better.6 -
I've been on LCHF diet for 20 wks. The weight is slow to come off, but I remain totally committed to the diet. The main reason is the results of my lab test taken at 14 wks. My doctor could not believe them. I think she was more excited than I was. I had been eating lots of saturated fat, very few carbs (under 20 grams a day) and moderate amounts of protein for over 3 months. My cholesterol was at an all time low, except HDL which was an all time high! I was no longer newly diabetic, or even pre-diabetic. My advice is to find a healthy diet and get some blood tests, the best incentive ever. Good luck.3

Not eating past 7 or 8 pm. Self discipline, balancing eating and working out, if you are plateauing , keep going!1

I lost 100 pounds by
- replacing soda/pop with water
- replacing extremely unhealthy foods with healthier
- Staying within my calorie goal of 1,700-2,000
- Using exercise as a time to actually have alone time and think
- Finding favorite things to do at the gym. Ex: I started to LOVE running and now I go running everyday just to clear my mind
- Finding 2 or 3 people to tell your weightloss progression to. DO NOT TELL A LOT OF PEOPLE it makes the whole thing feel like you HAVE to do it vs actually wanting to do it.
- Notice your progress and get EXCITED about it.
- Stay a bit more active during your day, so if you usually sit on the couch from 1-2, get up and take a little walk or something
- Be nice to yourself and rewards yourself with material things, not food. After I lost 60 pounds I promised myself a purse, so I saved up while losing weight and after my 60 pounds I got to buy this beautiful purse!!!!
