We inherited all of our good silver and we bought plates/silverware from Costco when we hosted for the holidays, but other than that, we have lots of plates/glasses/cups that are just 'cool'. When we first got together we had our camping chairs as our living room furniture, because that's all we had. We'd laugh at it, because whenever we went camping, we packed up our whole living room. She should just allow you to have a cupboard that you can fill with of your 'cool' stuff. haha2

In the beginning of relationship it used to upset me but we went for counseling and I have learnt to tell him what an a-hole he was and what he said that was hurtful (of course after the rant ). And during his rant I usually just walk away and don't take anything personally, he has learnt to apologize
I'm glad you have found a way to deflect the hurtful comments. Over the decades and through personal experience I have learned the immense power of words. If there is anything I have done worth worthwhile in my life it is learning to filter what I am about to say because it can never be recalled. To my detriment I haven't mastered the technique you described but it's never too late to begin right?1 -

Stay away from the "good towels" and, for goodness sake, don't sleep on the decorative pillows!5 -

It's probably best if you just sleep on the floor on a ripped towel.3

Congratulations! Feel free to join the chit chat. The topic of the hour seems to be decorative pillows...4 -

I, as a woman, can honestly say...I have no idea! I might get my girl card yanked for this, but I don't have decorative pillows, "good towels", fancy soap, etc. The closest thing I do have is the set of China from my mother that only gets used on holidays. It is a puzzle to me, too. Sorry, guys. Hopefully another wife can shed light...
Is there a guy's equivalent to decorative pillows??1 -
This is funny because people on reddit were telling stories about how their parents had an entire decorative room that they just kept perfect and no one was allowed to use. They just had it in case the queen came to visit or something. No, we don't do decorative pillows, towels, rooms, or care about unmatching dishes. But, I do want to do some upgrading on our actual couch cushions, get a new chair, and maybe some re-decorating. Things are very kid lived in right now. But, our kids are getting older.0

I have also known families who kept a room like that because it was the way the mom would have liked her whole house to be except children and life got in the way. Just having that one room allowed her a type of sanctuary and made her sanity possible. Different strokes for different folks I guess.1 -
We have three teenage boys in the house. If we had any decorative pillows they would probably be dirty and smell like sweat and feet by now.3

I can definitely understand it from the perspective of a room for adults and a room for kids. But, I would want to be able to do stuff in the room. But, I definitely understand wanting my own kid-free space. Definitely different strokes for different folks. I just personally like using my space, rather than displaying it, but that's just my personality. I have lots of things I would want to use that space for such as dancing and exercise. And no kid stuff. Edit to add: saying, "in case the queen came to visit" was their own words, not my words.1 -

My wife is off on an army training exercise and just sent me a picture of an ambush they were practicing - loads of smoke and gunfire etc. Do you think that's her way of telling me the house better be clean and tidy when she gets back...?6

There's always this "perfection" about the MIL which they try to pass on to the next generation. Didn't work with us, and we didn't have to endure it for very long either.1 -

The house is to be kept neat and tidy at all times and me wait on him after all he does work hard all day. Not to say he does not do the same for me at times because he does I am very spoiled. But, I get left A list every morning and everything on that list is to be done when he gets home unless I am not feeling well or something comes up and I just can't get it done. But I am very devoted to my husband and most of the time get everything done.
You don't get offended by said list?

My wife has a very strong personality. Me, I'm very diplomatic and polite. She is not and she is the kind of person you don't want to mess with becoz she will tear you apart. I kind of get a rise out of it.
Like when we bought the house and the neighbor gave me a hard time because I was parking on the street even though it was in front of my own fcuking house. I was shocked and I kind of stood back pensively when he said, "let's not make this a legal issue".
When she got home, I told her about it and she walked right across in rage to have a chat and I don't know what happened, the neighbor and his wife are now fleeing at the very sight of me or my wife ever since.

What was the go-go dancing like? Was this the first time you had ever danced that step? Was it an event or a club that featured that music? Just curious.....1 -

I was taking a class in burlesque and go-go dancing with a burlesque performer. Though, I expected more burlesque, it was more go-go dancing. And it was 1960's style go-go dancing. It wasn't my first time dancing in this style. But first actual class in this style. It was fun. And good exercise. And a friend was taking the class as well. It was a surprise and I hadn't seen her in a while. The class was in her area, where I used to live, but I moved.1
