What nobody tells you about losing weight

The mental roller-coaster ride: How you can go from completely motivated and happy one second to feeling like the entire process is futile and you'll never be skinny enough the next second.
How frustrating it is when even your best friends and family try to sabotage your journey by convincing you that it doesn't matter or that you're not being healthy or that you need to eat a piece of cake...
My mother in law brought over a box of cupcakes because she "couldn't have them in her house" tonight. She told me she wasn't trying to be mean because she knows I'm calorie counting. But11 -

Sooooo, she wasn't Trying to be mean... she's just mean naturally?
Sheesh!
I hope you told her to throw those things away if she couldn't keep them in her house.

I didn't expect that I'd become even more suspicious of men romantically. Is this real? Would he even have talked to me 100 lbs ago? If I get sick again and put on weight, would he dump me?
And I just used to analyze men for controlling behavior...26 -
That you don't get a fright anymore, when you unexpectedly see yourself in a mirror, in a shop window.
That you can actually sit in work all day, without a stomach ache from clothes that are too tight.
That you don't mind wearing a wetsuit for watersports as you won't look like a beached whale.
So, so many things, but I suppose fopr me the major thing is that it has given me such a confidence boost.21 -

Some people do that...and that annoys me a lot.
I mean sometimes they do it to please but more to some people just don't realize that pleasing someone does mean that it can't be done against their will ! (I mean sometimes it looks like they'd like to force-feed you !)7 -

Be gracious. Say thank you. Dump the whole thing as soon as she turns her back. I don't like waste but we all need to learn how to throw away food instead of eating it just because it is there. I don't see "naturally" slim people eating stuff just because29 -

My kids and husband ate a few last night and there are a few chocolate ones left which I don't like anyway. Win. Ha.9 -

She is totally a naturally mean person. No lie. It's comical sometimes.17 -
Well I'm back at it again after gaining back 15 lbs that I had lost earlier this year BUT while I was at a lower weight I felt a lot better overall health-wise and that's not something that people really exaggerate. Most will say they like how they look but don't really stress how good they feel inside their own body. I want that feeling back!22

How you have to eat food to lose fat. It's harder than restricting calories!7

That I look so much like my brother! 50+ years and I never realized, until I'm the smaller one, how we actually DO look like siblings!28

How rejuvenating it can be, both literally and figuratively! Anyone feeling hesitant about even trying anymore to get fitter if they are in their 50s, 60s, etc might find this encouraging. I was experiencing nightly acid reflux, plantar fasciitis, and various other problems including just general fatigue and less flexibility. I attributed it to aging. But I have lost 37 pounds in 2016 and the acid reflux and plantar fasciitis seem to be pretty much gone. I have more energy and my body feels more limber. It actually makes me feel like my younger self and that is quite a gift to have given myself.55

I second that! I am 56 and have lost a similar amount of weight with similar results.19 -
I've had a few random acquaintances email/message me inappropriate things since I've lost weight. I've been the same person all along, and now that I've lost about 50 pounds they are being creeps! My partner has been by my side through "thick & thin" literally. I also just had to buy new trainers, and even the new ones seem too loose around the ankles! I still have about 20-30 pounds to lose before I'm in the healthy weight range too! Can't wait to see what happens with shoes and clothes then!15

That you end up with bags under your eyes - I'd always looked at my (thinner) siblings and thought that I'd got away with it. No. They were just padded out with fat.16

I never realized how prominent your tendons can be - my biceps, hamstrings and achille's tendons are actually "hard" to the touch! Who knew?
Also, never thought I would become such a fan of clothes shopping! I just love it, both at charity and retail shops. I used to hate clothes shopping, now I love fitting new clothes and trying different styles. Also adore wearing dresses or shorts now, which I never liked, even as a kid.
Lastly, I never realized how painful sleeping on the sides can be. My hip bones seem to hate me!
Do you ever sleep on your side, then feel between your ribs? That bone seems to tilt! So weird!!5 -

This just made me think about something: I am uncomfortable now a lot of the time: sitting on the train is torture, my mattress seems awful, etc.
I just realized: I am bony! WHAT?! Who knew this would be something to deal with regarding weight loss?!11 -
Those rings that were always too tight are just right now!16

Mine were enlarged for me by the jeweller when I put all this weight on a few years ago. Now they are too big and I'm afraid I'll lose them.9 -
Thanks for the motivation. I am just starting on my journey. I hope to lose a lot of weight so I've got a long way to go.7
