Cheri - The prep is the worst part, I don't remember the procedure. Having a colonoscopy saved my life! I no longer have to have one every 6 months and I am grateful for that.
Been a busy week. Gearing up for Christmas in a toy store. I don't seem to have the patience that I used to and I'm not sure but I think people have got a whole lot ruder.
My daughter is determined to make me into the Queen of Hearts for our Halloween costume contest. I found a great dress and my sister is renovating it so that it fits a little better. "Off with their Heads!"
My DGD is also going to be Queen of Hearts. She will steal the show.
My cousin with the esophageal cancer is doing well but can't have visitors yet. He is my double cousin. We lived on farms about 2 miles from each other. He was always like an older brother to me until we got older. I still remember the first time he trusted me to ride his pride and joy, Bonnie. She was quite spirited.
My Aunt has broken her leg. She will be 87 on the 30th. Her daughter is having quite a time dealing with my wonderful, strong willed Aunt. I talked with my cousin for over half an hour and I think it helped her just to blow off steam.
I read all the posts about retiring. Hubby and I were just talking about that. He thinks I should take disability but that means our benefits would be gone. Also I would have to take the money from the deferred profit sharing and do something else with it instead of it continuing to grow. I will be talking to our accountant and seeing if he can give me some clarity on the subject. It's so hard to know what to do but I have to say that most days I think I could just not go to work.
DD has been very busy. Face painting, window painting and custom art pieces. Now she has been asked to bid on the painting of an installation piece for Canada's 150th birthday for our museum. So proud of her.
Our DOS turned 40. Wow! So hard to believe. He sounded very upbeat when we called to wish him Happy Birthday.
Trying to get back on track but today was a total wash. Tomorrow we have a friend's 70th birthday party and I will try to stay away from the goodies.
No alarm in the morning, snooze as long as I like.

Good Morning! Would like to be added to this group I fit the criteria...lol I'm Lady from East Coast. I have tried MFP 3 times. But, this is the most serious I've taken it. I'm at an all time high weight and got injured, of all places at the gym!! Ugh. So, I really need support to stay on track as I ease back into the gym and rely mostly on diet and not movement. Thank you.4

Charlene - I am so up myself at the moment with this moving business that I forgot to comment on your very moving post about your bling jeans. How I identify with that. I used to absolutely hate shopping and fall into a deep depression trying to buy trousers (pants). Every item was black. Nothing ever looked nice. I used to cry.
It was a revelation when I went into smaller sizes and I celebrated with purple jeans. Now I can wear almost anything provided it's not revealing skin. Leggings are still my friend, but I am wearing skirts, which I didn't for years. And a bit of a heel when I don't have to walk too far.
So, many, many congratulations on the bling jeans. :flowerforyou:
And to all the others who are getting into smaller sizes.
My estate agent rang just now to tell me they are having trouble getting it on Rightmove, because last week they changed the name of the company. Technical issues. Hope to be sorted by Monday. Grrrrrrrrrr. But gives us more time for sorting.
In the garage I have a big box containing my old theatrical stuff, including lots of small percussion instruments that I used in a show I wrote and directed.. If my DDIL doesn't want them I will donate them to the nursery school round the corner. There are dressing up hats as well that I used in my drama/writing/therapy classes. Sad to say goodbye to them as two were from a relative on my ex's side who was in Paris as a young governess in the Great Flood before WW1. She always drank her coffee black and sucked it through a sugar lump. Cousin Agnes was her name. I still have her "press", a large mahogany cupboard.
Must purge though. I will do what I advised Katla to do, take a photo and write down why it is important to me. I might just keep the one hat.
The sun is shining through the yellowing birch leaves outside my bedroom window. This morning a gang of longtailed tits did their gymnastics through the leaves while we were having our breakfast in bed.

Morning. Happy to have a day to reset and catch my breath. Cold, rainy days are just perfect for that, don't you think?
My goal of meal planning fell apart last week and I need to get motivated to plan, shop and prep or i'm going off the rails big time! My standard winning dishes are getting a little boring. I've got Brussels sprouts and butternut squash calling out to me to be inventive!
Big goals for the day, hit the gym and stock up at the library and oh yeah, clean the kitchen so I feel more excited to work in there.

Just ate a bowl of Southern Cornbread Dressing and Gravy for breakfast. Yum! I cooked a large oven stuffer last night and made the dressing and gravy. Practicing for Thanksgiving!

Good morning ladies, my name is Debbie Blackburn and I live in Birmingham, Alabama. I'm new to this kind of thing so please be patient with me. I'm a disabled american veteran of the united states navy and I'm currently going through a program at the VA hospital call "MOVE". It is a weight loss program for veterans and their families and the program coordinator recommended this website to me. Since I am 55 years young I decided to join your community. I hope you will accept me and if so I hope I can be somewhat of an inspiration to someone else. I do have a bit of a dilemma though. I am a right leg above the knee amputee who is wheelchair bound and very overweight due to steroids for my asthma weighing in at 333lbs. The good news is that I used to weigh 400lbs. I lost the previous weight going to a gym when I lived I Virginia Beach, Virginia. I no longer have that luxury. It's kind of funny, the program I am in is called "MOVE" but It's kind of hard to "MOVE" when your in a wheelchair....lol If you ladies know of someone successful in my position please send them my way. If not, then hopefully with your support, I will conquer this giant. I look forward to hearing from all of you soon. Best wishes to all of you on you journeys and may God bless all of you.6

Debbie in Alabama - welcome! We're glad you're here, and congratulations on your weight loss to date. It's an amazing triumph with the situation you're in. I have zero experience with your situation, so take it with a grain of salt when I say that the first thing you have to get rid of is thinking of it as "conquering a giant." Just conquer the next pound or five pounds or ten. Set small goals, because the big ones overwhelm us and push us toward our coping tool, which is food. Literally take it one day at a time--we tend to take it one month at a time, because of how this thread is framed, and that's very helpful too. I know there are chair-bound exercises that are available on the web, as other people have added links here, and I'm sure they can find them again.
Lady on the East Coast - welcome to you, too! Time to get creative with what you can do as well. Whatever your situation is, there's someone on the web who has been in the same situation and succeeded. Search for what you need wherever you can find it.
Y'all can do this--we've had some amazing success stories here, and you can be one of them. You'll find tons of support here for more than just weight loss, because these women in this group are amazing, one and all. Good luck!
Lenora - been reading about your struggles with your DDiL, and my only comment would be that your expectations of what you should get from her (respect) are what makes it so hard. You cannot change her--you can only change your own expectations of her. If you don't choose to do that, nothing else will change. While your feelings are what they are, and have their own validity for you, they don't make the situation any better. I'm struggling with similar items in my own life, and found that when I stop expecting people to be reasonable, I'm pleasantly surprised when they are, and willing to give them more space to be decent human beings. When I expect them to be decent and they can't rise to the occasion, it just makes me feel bad. They don't feel any different at all. Again, not saying you don't have the right to feel the way you do--just saying it's not going to change her.
OK, off my philosophy soapbox this morning, and on to my own life. Lively, chilly morning here in West Texas, and writing like mad about why we do the things we shouldn't and don't do the things we should. Feeling fallible, frivolous and other things that start with "F," that's...

Just popping in to say Hi to those who remember me from ages ago.
I'm doing okay and hope you are too, I'll have to look at a few back posts to catch up with you all.
I have reduced my working days from 4 days to 3, and I hope that I'll be able to drop in more often,
There's few names I remember Barbiecat of course Heather, AuntyBK and Exermom to name a few.
My weight has recently gone up a few pounds for some reason, so I am back to logging my food again! It's turning quite cold here, so I probably need to move more, and stop filling up on comfort food!

Hey all,
Shoulder recovery is going well. The physical therapist said I'm a "stellar patient" and "rock star" as 3 1/2 weeks after surgery I have regained my full range of motion. Thursday was a banner day because I was removed from the restriction of using my arm under it's own power and now can do REAL exercises. lol I'm up to 2 pounds with my weights (and to think I was bench pressing 160 before.... now I'm happy with 2 pounds! lol) I'm very diligent with my exercises and I think it shows. Hurts like heck sometimes and ice is still my best friend. I do get terribly tired sometimes and I have to remind myself that despite the tiny incisions it really was major surgery and my bone is still healing from having a big old screw put in it.
Yesterday was annual picture day. Here's a picture of my wonderful grandchildren. Ages 10 - 2. Next year we'll have 2 more in the picture! Hard to believe.

The fact that you've already brought your weight down is really important. For me, the plateaus are hard to break but if you keep looking at your food choices, you can find things to limit or cross off your regular meals. Overtime it will make a difference CICO
Any chance the local VA or Y would have exercise programs that would support your specific needs?

DB called my mom of 98 passed away last night. She was only in the hospital for a two days. When I saw her in September she did not know me. We still made the best of that visit.

Debbie - Welcome! You have done so well! There are many exercises you can do in a wheelchair and you can build up your strength through weights. I use dumbbells every day. If you Google it, it will come ........ Is your goal to get out of the wheelchair, or have you some other injury that makes that impossible?
We had a quick go at the loft this afternoon. We have some decisions to make about pictures etc. One large picture we bought when we lived at the seaside didn't look right in this rural house. It will probably be ok in Hove. DH has some quite expensive batiks that I've never liked, (not my colours), so we want them to go to a good home. Some others have decent frames and just need new pictures. Lots of decisions, but a definite car load for the dump.
Cooking Hairy Bikers Lamb Tagine for dinner. Yum.

Cheri, ((((HUGS!!!)))) I hope you feel better soon. As someone who has the blues with some regularity I sympathize a lot.
Re, I agree with all others who have said you have a lovely, warm voice.
About my boss. I didn't want to imply she's a bad boss (well, maybe I did that day, I was pretty p'od). She's actually smart, competent, funny, and warm--at least most of the time. But she's also got way too much on her plate, the company is growing and she's in a critical systems' building position. She's become very risk averse over time, which I understand, given her role. Our beauracracy is growing, and it needs to. IMO, bureaucracy should always be tempered with wisdom and compassion, and while she tries, things move so quickly that she doesn't always archive either. Also, I'm pretty creative, and I like to take more risks with my work than she likes to tolerate. And it doesn't feel like I fit that well anymore.
The fall pictures are lovely, and Mary, those grand babies are adorable! You and DH look so happy to be with them.
Katla, I hope your grandchild is out in the world by now! And I'm sorry your DD hurt you with her comment. My DD said horrible things to me late last spring. And she adores me. She regretted it later, and things are fine now.
DJ, thanks for the kick!!! I didn't manage to do what I wanted the day after my request--just got 15 minutes of PT in plus about 80 one-handed kettle bell swings with 20 lbs. Better than nothing...it's the working day issue-- I manage to work out most days, but this week wasn't good. I was back on track yesterday.
Joyce and Becca, I think it's wonderful that you both sing! I would love to be able to do so--if only because it can be such a joyful and emotional activity. And I love to hear how people use their voices differently.
I've been on a weight plateau for about a month now, and I'm trying to see it as an opportunity to get used to my smaller size before I go down more. Silver linings and all that. I also must be building muscle. Yesterday I used a 35 lb kettlebell for my swings (had tried before, but it was tough)!! Could only do 5 sets of 10, but I'm on my way.
Also went to pilates--my teacher is giving me increasingly challenging routines. Yesterday I did 2 prone pull-ups-- a little frightening. I was hanging horizontally in the air, about 30 inches above the bed (cadillac, for those who have done this type of pilates), with both feet on a swing, my hands on the bars above me. It took me a minute or so before I could actually put myself in that position! And then I had to pull my body up with my arms...
Yesterday's kettlebell workout, which I hope to do today, too (or something similar):
Swings: 5x10x35
Deadlifts: 4x10x50
Windmills: 1x3x15 (I can now do 3 on each side in good form, lol!)
Squats: 2x10x50
Military presses: 2x10x20 I consider 20 lbs a major accomplishment since my shoulders and arms are typically weak compared with my abs, glutes, quads, etc. I think the Windmills have helped. They're slow exercises that require me to stabilize the Kettlebell up in the air while I'm bending and rotating.
I'm going to visit my mom for a week on Thursday. She lives in Ecuador, which is a wonderful place. But it's hard to visit very often. I go every couple of years or so. As she gets older she asks me to come more often, and I worry about her. But it was her choice to move down there (3 flights each way), which I remind myself of when I start to feel guilty.
I can't take my kettlebells, alas. But I can take my exercise bands and TRX. And I can walk. There's a river near her home with some exercise stations along the path...pull up bars, step up places, etc. It's nice to exercise outside like that.

It was supposed to be my day to sleep in. Of course I woke up at 5:30 and couldn't get back to sleep! To further make life more interesting I've a reoccurance of corneal erosion. This time in both eyes and a lot more area is impacted. The OD put me on some steroid drops which is supposed to help repair the covering quickly. I think that the cpap is drying out my eyes so I went to get a different mask to try. Hopefully that will help. Who was it that said that aging is not for wimps?

Heather, when I started discarding all sorts of precious things from my past, it helped me that Jake was willing to sit and listen the the story attached to every item. It helped me cement the memories without having to keep the actual items. If your husband doesn't have the time and patience to listen to your stories, then tell them to us as you discard the items. When we began discarding, my best friend who had moved from 2,400 square feet to 900 square feet, said "Be ruthless". And she told me that she cried a lot but kept discarding.

I been up since 5 this morning! Just when I woke up. So I had the energy got busy clean house , laundry going!
Fixed a nice healthy breakfast. It has been encouraging my husband is eating what I been cooking. Low carbs low protein he has been enjoying the meals.
Going to take time to cook dinners for a few days out. That way I won't need to worry about it next week.
Heading into Boise with the family later today. My DD favorite place is to go to Barnes & Noble just to curl up and look at books. So that is the plan.

got my new chest strap, i'm ready to roll. kirby is off and today was to be the last outside run b4 the marathon. it's in the 40's so he doesn't wanna run outside, so we'll b doing a couple of hours on the treadmill at the gym instead2 -
Been for 2mile walk in the lovely Autumn sunshine we have today. Did Jessica Smith 15 min workout this morning followed by 15 min kettlebell routine (swings) with the 13 lb bell. Arms were sore after the last session hope that was a good thing, seem ok today.
Weight still not moving but trying not to get discouraged. Must admit keeping under calorie but not eating really healthy need to kick my b***t
Have another physio session Wednesday and an interesting phone chat about reading (what and how I read and how habits have changed over the years) it's part of an Open University project called Reading Communities: Linking Past and Present. I was interviewed when I attended a workshop here in Liverpool and they have asked me to contribute again, it will be done over the phone which will be a bit strange.
Thursday of to DDs in Birmingham, first time staying in their new house as they have only just got a bed for the spare room, at least I hope it's a bed as I used to sleep on an chairbed in their previous house. Will probably go over calories but they have a lovely park 2 mins away and a dog so weather permitting will walk a lot and probably do Pokemon hunting with grands

Thank you all for the warm welcome, support and great advice. It is much appreciated and accepted with an open heart. You are right Lisa in West Texas. I will break down my giant into smaller pieces and just take things one day at a time. Good suggestion NYKAREN I'm already in a program at the VA but I will check out the Y. Dear Heather UK, I appreciate the pat on the back. I do want to get out of my wheelchair. I need to loose a lot of weight first though. As long as my weight is not stable the VA will not keep making prosthetic legs for me. To all, I work out with an exercise band and I use vegetable cans as weights (before I empty them of coarse...lol) every day. I also turn on the music channel on the television to the contemporary christian music and dance in my wheelchair for half an hour every day. My arms are getting stronger and I lost 5lbs. in the last two weeks. You all have been an encouragement to me and I just pray I can do the same to you or someone else in return. Blessings to all.
