What nobody tells you about losing weight

for me it's my personal challenge and that number is private....I was asked and answered but I don't want to answer that
If I were asked and didn't want to say a number I'd just say 'A lot....I don't use a scale'. As for me, I don't care if people ask. If I can motivate someone to lose weight then I'm all for it.6 -
That you'd go from being a bath-lover to a bath-hater - being in a bath gets more and more uncomfortable as you lose weight . . . it does mean saving lots of time though that would otherwise be wasted "soaking" in the tub6

Sometimes your brain does not believe that you have lost weight and is so stubborn about it that despite the scales and that 5 sizes too big shirt, it still makes people around you look bigger rather than admit that you are now smaller.12

I had no idea that I'll become comfortable talking about my weight loss, exercise and diet. In the past, I would try my best to avoid any topic involving the three.9

That you (could) literally become obsessed with everything related to fitness. Most of your conversations (that you enjoy) are related to what classes you and others have taken that were great, how much you are lifting, etc. Meeting over exercise (instead of lunch) is your norm..4

Seriously, WTH is with sitting now? My butt bone hurts and when I do certain exercises that I have to lay on my side for, my hips REALLY hurt.15

I love this so much and can completely relate.
I had an emotional moment yesterday while shopping. Even though I have been maintaining for years, knowing that I could fit into a small, super cute designer dress off the rack and I looked amazing in it made me tear up.
The experience made me think about all of those years when I was younger I sat on the sidelines watching my girlfriends buy cute clothes. While I had to settle for whatever fit or what was available in my size. It's my time now!!!!!

I had a couple big, not-so-healthy meals this weekend, something I haven't done in a year
I cannot believe that I just wasn't hungry the rest of the day. That's never happened to me before -- like, somehow, my body knew it had had enough calories and was like "Ehh, no ..." to any more food the rest of the day.
It's not just that your tastes changed (everything was actually gross) or that you can't eat as much during a meal ... It's like your system changes. Old me could eat a huge diner breakfast and at some point want something later on in the day. Not now. If you stick with this process long enough, I guess you can really change how the body works in really great ways.24 -

Lane Bryant has pretty clothes in the size 14-16 range. I don't know if you have those stores in the malls near you.
I recently found the Avenue. NY and Co larger sizes. I am short so Lane Bryant does not work for me anymore now that I lost weight. I also now low dress barn - regular side instead of plus. They have clothes that seem to fit my changing body type. The other option is to go into a consignment shop and try on many different styles and brands to find what fits your body. Found a lot of clothes at great prices for the in between size that I am.5 -
that even though you have been exercising regularly for 6 months some days you can't wait to exercise and some days you do everything you can to justify skipping exercise and that the drive comes from within to just do it!
that you don't loose the weight evenly. I have a lot to loose still but I have lost 56 and my pant size has gone from a tight 20 to a 16 (can pull of jeans done up so probably 14) but my top half I still wear the same 2x.15 -
I love the fact that getting dressed doesn't take very long now. I used to go through 3 or 4 outfits because "my bum looked big" or "these jeans are too tight". Now - everything fits like it is supposed to - job done!!

After you've lost 20lbs you're officially a certified trainer and are ready to take on clients. If you've lost 50lbs you can now make a transformation post daily with the worst possible picture of yourself compared to your current best!
Everyone thinks you have some magic pill in your back pocket that your hiding from them! once you start to put on muscle you're on steroids cause they've been working out for 2 weeks and don't look the same .. there you are grinding for 5 *kitten* years and now that you're progressing you're on steroids.
If you do a bulk cycle you instantly quit working out and everyone will ask you why you quit or make inappropriate comments about you gaining weight. You try to explain a bulk and they go back to you using steroids
I've seriously had these conversations with people in my office....35 -

Not falling like I used to a lot. And being able to easily get up off the floor if I got down there for some reason like hunting some item that rolled under the furniture.13

Notice the need to add some fat to my diet to keep things moving smoothly through my digestive track, but on the plus side, a pat of butter sure does taste good on the sweet potato.10

wow, what rude. where i've worked, people just kind of leave a polite little chunk of blank air, and then move on if i mention it. it's sort of funny to watch their brains take that tiny freefall.
i think that me being a woman they don't even register that a surprising amount of my flesh is muscle.

In a way there is You can order your friends in order of last login in. The ones that have not logged in for months are on the last page.
I do this monthly to get rid of friends that have stopped using MFP. I use a three months line there. Under that I count as potential long holidays and or people starting again in that timeframe.9 -

I can relate with so many of these posts. Here are my top ones: That my tastes could change and I would actually like vegetables more than pasta! That I would feel sick if I ate a meal the size I used to. That I could really lose weight by eating less and moving more. That girls at work who never spoke to me would suddenly become friendly (was it me or them or both?). That I would get by on less sleep and not feel tired all the time. I can relate with some of the other less pleasant things like the bed being uncomfortable, being cold all the time and having my breasts fall out of my bra when I bend over, lol. But really it's all a wonderful journey.23

That even when you fit into next size pants down you may not like the look as sometimes the muffin top is more evident until you lose a few more pounds.....but still great to be a size down21

No one told me that, even though I'm still a good 30lbs from a healthy weight and still have a fat belly, I'd WANT to wear closer-fitting clothing! I don't like my bulges being on show, but I dislike the look of baggy clothes even more now that I'm finally getting a visible waist again!
It's true what someone said above, about loose clothes making you look bigger. I used to hide behind baggy tops but now I don't want to. I wear old, loose clothing around the house because my cats will climb on me and ruin good things otherwise, but every time I get changed to leave the house and put on something slimmer fitting I feel like a different person.21 -

Agree with everything said here.
I used to wear my old, big, baggy clothes until they fell off me, and then wondered why nobody, including myself, noticed my weight loss. Way better to get clothes that fit, you feel so much more positive about the process (which, let's face it, can be discouraging at times). And it feels so GOOD to get into the next size down8 -

...that I'd wish I'd taken photos of my before self in less clothes so I could see the difference easier in before and after photos.24
