I'm getting upper arm and calf definition! eta- I've still got quite a bit of fat on me, so seeing this is encouraging me to know when that fat is gone, I'm going to look fit and strong!20

My heart rate is lower. When I started losing weight back in March, 5 minutes on the eliptical would have my heart rate at 150. Now, 70lbs lighter and much fitter, after 15-20 minutes, it's at 118. That seems like a win.27

I have been at this for 5 months now, down just about 40 lbs. Other than my mother (who is always hyper sensitive about my weight) I have not had anyone make a comment. Yesterday FIVE different people (in different situations!) made comments about how good I am looking!28

while driving to the gym this morning at 4 dark-early, I wished that I would feel this strong for the rest of my life. which reminded me to remind all you young people on this journey: KEEP PUSHIN NOW! You will blink and be 52....don't wait. The time is now.36

Yes, you will!
I started getting active while obese, a dozen years before losing weight. I was - if I may momentarily be immodest - completely stunned by how strong & muscled I looked once thin, even at 60 years old!20 -
All A''s at midterm! Plus getting right back into running after being sick!29

I'm still pretty new to this myself, but I've found my body warms up but my ears and hands do not. So an ear covering headband or hat and gloves - I've seen them at sporting goods stores and in TJ Maxx/Marshalls in moisture-wicking fabric. Otherwise just longer pants and long-sleeved shirts. I've been wearing the race shirt I got from the 5K I ran. I think I'm going to have to treadmill if it gets much colder.
Thanks for the advice -- I did just find both a headband and a wool cap with fleece lining so one or both will help keeping my ears warm on those frosty days. The forecast for Saturday keeps changing from rain, to just cloudy and now I'm hearing the temps may be higher 50s. It's going to be fun being out there.
Love the fall weather, but may have to move my activity indoors too as it gets colder. Really hate the treadmill, but would hate slipping on ice even more.6 -

You're going to love it! And look for local running groups where you live - check MeetUp, specialized running stores - you'll make some new friends fast! Our clubs have pop-up 5ks, weeknight free-runs, happy hour runs that end at restaurants. . . .
Any suggestions on what to wear when the forecast is for high 40s-low 50s?
My rule of thumb is dress how you would when the weather is 10 degrees warmer but you are not running. Like for 40-50's I'd run with a long sleeve shirt and longish tights. If I wasn't running, I'd wear that for 50-60 degree weather. For 30-40 degree runs, I's add a light jacket or pullover, like I would when out at 50-60 degrees but not running. Make sense?
Thanks Jen! That makes perfect sense and I will take that into consideration when I wake up on Saturday and see what the temp is out there.3 -
Eight months ago I would get out of breath from climbing the stairs in my house There are only about 10 stairs! This week I've run a 7K without stopping once and I loved it. Then today the PT had me doing hex deadlifts using 60kgs!! That's about 130 lbs!! Flipping heck! Frigging awesome!!!33

My most recent NSV is that I cut 1:10 off my mile time in two days. From 14:02 to 12:52. I was pretty proud of that. Now to get down to under 10:0021

I just planned my summer VK (Sturgis! here I come!) and got the motivation to kick back into gear. I knew the first thing I had to do was hit this post to hear all the great things. I've been reading now for four hours (oops... don't tell my boss) and i KNOW that I can get back on track.
My temporary NSV that made me realize that I need to get going again-- my bf made a comment that I only weigh 140lbs. (reality: 165lbs honest; 155 if you ask my DL). I want to hit that weight to show him that I CAN!200 consecutive days of logging today! I love the way it makes me feel in control of my food intake, which is not something I have felt before.Micheller1210 wrote: »I haven't posted in awhile, but since April, I'm down two pant sizes. ....oh yeah!I lost 1.7 lbs since monday. Managed to resist coffee cake in the break room yesterday and croissants in the break room today. Why oh why do people insist on bringing that stuff in EVERY.....SINGLE....DAY???!!!!12 -
I wore tights! I have never believed in tights - I thought they were always awful because I looked awful in them.
But this morning I grabbed a pair that my daughter left at my place, pulled them on and got on with my workout in my garage. When I come inside I thought I'd look in the mirror....and I wasn't horrified at what I saw. I was even admiring how my quads and calves are looking.23 -
Today I finished C25k Week 5 Day 3. The 20 minute run. I don't think I have ever run 20 minutes without stopping before. And I have always hated running, but I am honestly enjoying the C25k app24

I was told by the sales girl at Victoria's Secret I have big boobs for such a tiny person. Me! Called tiny!!! And yup...still a 36DD.20

I realized today that I haven't eaten anything from the candy dish at work since March... (it doesn't fit my macros)28

Bought a new sweater yesterday...size "L", after wearing mostly XLs and 2XLs the past few years. Wore it today...my secretary said it looked too big around the waist. Can't get my mind around the idea of possibly buying an "M" the next time...24

\o/ as someone who 'never' ever ever ever runs, i totally get what this means.
i did a gp visit yesterday. i've got a clicky s.i. going on that i don't like the feel of. but anyway . . . last time she saw me was over two years ago, when i needed her signature on a 'learn to lift' class because of rheumatoid arthritis.
they weighed me that day. i weighed myself yesterday. two and a half years apart, and i weigh almost exactly the same, from 60.9 kilos then to 61.3 kilos now. meanwhile today i can bench 85 pounds, deadlift 165 if i really have to, squat 105 or so and press 65 when i'm healthy enough . . . all for 3 - 5 reps.
eta: i guess that's a 'scale' victory except i don't really see it as one, since i grew all that strength without changing the scale.

Today I fit into some jeggings that haven't fit me since 2013.15

Really silly, but.... my trainers are dirty! Like actually used, worn in, dirty. I've had them for a couple of years in my bedroom, looking beautiful and pristine and clean and very clearly never used. Now they're a tribute to all the hard work I'm putting in, the mud, the scratches, and probably the stink35

Yesterday - coworker passed me then stopped "Hey D - yeah man, you're losin' some weight!! I can see it!"
Today getting coffee - another coworker: "Darin - wow, man, you're getting thin!"

Getting into a 14 pant with no W because I started in what should have been a 22w but I decided to diet instaed of buying the 22w.17

I've had a Twix bar in my desk for over a month and have not longer have a strong desire to eat it. I originally bought it thinking I'd have it there if I needed to celebrate something or wanted a quick fix. Been realizing lately that 1) I don't need to celebrate with food... or at least not with candy, and 2) a quick fix is much more likely to be the apple or clementine I carry in my bag.18

Today on my lunch walk, I added in some sprints. I managed to run about 1/4 of the time I spent walking. This is huge because I have always hated running, haven't really done any running in 20 years. I have a goal to actually run a 7k next September, so I am slowly adding the running in. I hadn't planned on adding any running in until I got below 200 pounds. I saw someone else mention they were running 5k and they were over 200 pounds. I figured that meant I probably could too and I was just making excuses up. Go me!24

Great advice on here. For high 40s/low 50s, I wouldn't even need gloves or a hat, but it depends on how warm you get (and how used to the cold you are). I live in Vermont, so I've gone out running in as cold as 15 degrees last January! I wore a long sleeve shirt, a fleece, sweat pants, a scarf, hat and mittens (they warm up your hands better). And I was fine! I went running last night when it was in the 30s and I wore leggings, long sleeve shirt, hat, and gloves. My arms got a bit cold toward the end, but I wouldn't have wanted to wear anything more.
All this to say, remember what you wear when you run and what the temp is. You will find out what works for you People around here like saying that there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.
Thank you too! I will definitely make note of what works and what temp it was. I just walked an hour in the rain this morning, and it was fun because what I was wearing kept me warm and dry. Let's hope whatever I wear tomorrow keeps me comfortable and I can have a fun run.3 -
I went out today without lunch Stupid of me but I didn't have time as had to get to the next city 40 miles away for a hospital appointment. Anyway, I got to the appointment early so did a bit of shopping beforehand and I ended up with a load of junk food - impulse purchases as I was hungry, namely a bag of mini-biscuits (15 packs in the bag) plus multi-packs of chocolate (7 large bars).
The NSV is that I did not eat ANY of them. I got home with the packs all intact. They are still intact now and my children were highly amused at my tale of going from shop to shop buying this stuff because I really wanted it but then not eating it. They think that I'm mad (little do they know!).16 -
Today our HR person stopped me and asked me what I was doing to lose so much weight! I"m at thirty pounds lots and I feel/feel like I look exactly the same. It's nice to get some recognition. Yesterday, a co-worker told me I was "melting away". Gotta say, it's getting to my head a little bit.16

I do the same thing! Especially when I see something new I want to try. Sometimes I corner the kids when they have one so I can try a bite to see if a whole piece will be "worth" the calories.2 -
The boy I married 32 years ago drove all the way to my office on a friday in heavy traffic to bring me a new pair of gym shoes he thought I would "dig". If I could explain what a phenom this was....you would not believe me. I think he likes what's happening to this bod.41
