Women who eat more than 1800 calories a day !!!!

Just read through most of this tread - such great information here.
I've weighed between 162-165 for MONTHS, but I've been netting usually less than 1200 calories. Now that I'm lifting heavy 4x a week - 2 days upper body, 2 days lower body - on top of teaching and taking barre and group fitness classes, I'm burning 600+ calories on a "less active" day. I'm working on eating more, but who knew it would be so hard. I haven't logged dinner yet since I don't know what I'll be having, but I've only netted 778 calories at the moment - with eating a cookie, snacks, breakfast, lunch...
It's a mind game to get past the numbers. Seeing MORE is hard. But, I went to a dietitian a week and a half ago who encouraged me to eat more and to count macros instead of calories.
I'm rambling, but this has been such a great thread for me. I want to lose another 20lbs or so, while lifting heavy and getting stronger. Rationally, I know I need food to do it!
I made small changes to add calories in the beginning. Olive oil instead of cooking spray, butter instead of butter spray, mixed nuts, peanut butter, sour cream on my fajitas little changes like that can add 200-300 calories without making you feel really full. Now, I have no trouble fitting in the extra food!
Something to consider. If your goal is 1700 calories per day. MFP's 1400 per day allowance plus 300 from exercise...you don't HAVE to eat 1700 per day every day. I've actually been taught a lesson from this. On a day you just don't feel very hungry you can eat 1500, because another day that week you may be ravenous and have trouble staying under 1900. You're still averaging out to 1700. I wouldn't make it a habit of coming in under too often. But I'm hungrier on days I lift and cardio tends to blunt my appetite. It all evens out. Just pay attention to your net calories.

Time for a bump up on this thread.2

Already posted but I shall post again LOL. I been eating 2600 a day for past 2 weeks and have not gained anything. I exercise 4-6 days a week for hour6

I'm up to a 2000-2300 cal/day range (aiming to slow my weightloss down to 1 pound/week). Apparently, being on your feet almost all day burns a lot of calories even if you aren't "exercising" a lot.5

So happy this got bumped again!! I've really struggled the last few months, and my weight crept back up to 148 (I'm 5'3). I'm between 1650-1750 on a cut and working out 5-6 days/week doing Jaime Eason's Live Fit program now. I'll go back to maintenance for a while after the program ends in January and that'll be around 1950-2050, I think.2

Idk of I count because yes I have lost 37 lbs eating well above 1800 but I'm also breastfeeding I see the biggest change in my face1

I just started a new weight gain plan from my dietitian and it seems to be 2300-2400 calories

I'm on around 2000 cals a day. Am currently 55 kilos and have lost 6 kilos since April. As well as walking at least 10,000 steps a day, I cycle for an hour 3 days a week, try to fit in 3 runs a week and a couple of sessions on the stationary bike. I love my food so fit in as much exercise as I can so I can eat what I want!0

I've been at maintenance for almost 4 yrs, I average 2000 calories a day - not bad for being 47yr and a petite 5ft 2/ 128lbs. . (I'm active and average 14k steps a day)7

I net at 1660. I am 43 years old, 5' 7" I weigh 183 lbs. I eat back ALL of my exercise calories so most days I am eating on average 2000 calories an still losing steadily. I jog for 25 mins 4 times a week and have recently introduced some strength training which seems to helping with body composition. Lost 49 lb up to now. Its took me a year and a half but its been worth the wait. I LOVE food and eat well everyday. I am never deprived as I include the foods I love in my calorie allowance. I am getting closer to maintenance now and feel as though I could do this for life. I have formed good habits and my relationship with food is a healthy one now as I used to comfort eat a lot. No pics, sorry I'm a bit shy but I have lost 8" off waist and 10" off hips.2

I am 5'7 134 and I eat anywhere from 2,200-2,400 a day and have maintained. I workout 5 days a week for just a little over an hour combining weights with cardio. I even throw in a two to three days a month where I indulge more and probably consume an exta 1,000. Before I found MFP I was eating around 1,900 cals a day and I always felt like crap, tired and worn down after my workouts. I can tell a HUGE difference in my energy levels and recovery now that I eat all my exercise cals back.

Would love some encouragement or pics of your progress ..... show us how eating your calories work !!
Petite lady over here. 20 years old and 5'2". I stick to a 20 BMI with a range of 108-114lbs. 110 is the UGW.
I've made extra efforts to walk and stay active the past few months, so I tend to average 2000+ calories over the week. Without extra effort, I still tend to hit 1700+ calories.
My short story: couch potato to health enthusiast. Food lover to......still a food lover xD
Long story: I've been overweight all my life and reached obesity by my mid-teens. Anytime I mentioned that I wanted to take the advice of my pediatrician and lose weight, friends and family rushed to ensure me that I was beautiful as I was, even though I NEVER hinted/said/felt I didn't like myself. I just wanted to take care of myself. It also didn't help that many women in my family are overweight themselves. I was very ignorant on matters of weight management, and I grew up eating as my mother did; moderation was NOT a thing.
One summer, something clicked. I didn't start bettering my health on any special day or event. I woke up one morning and took a long walk at a local park. For many mornings after, I walked for at least an hour before starting my day. I ate a little less, and weight loss ensued. Going to college made the process even easier. I didn't have temptations around, and I taught myself responsible eating habits. Before long, I learned to moderate my portions and control impulses to eat mindlessly. Now, I can finally be around food and not overeat out of habit.
I STILL start my day with exercise, even if it's just a five minute yoga practice. It's a familiar routine now. I get up, weigh in, get the blood flowing through my body, and then proceed with my day. It's the same no matter what my schedule is for the semester. If I have a 7am class, for example, I get up around 5am.
I personally recommend making health a habit. Even on days I'm not particularly hyped to exercise, I go through it anyways because it's all a part of my life now; it's like brushing my teeth. It feels weird to be a couch potato. I love living a life in motion too much now.
I also recommend making this something you're doing for YOU. I don't rely on others to compliment me or cheer me on. Indeed, I am happy to receive positive commentary, but even without them, I wouldn't stop living healthily. Prioritizing my health is something I do for me and me alone.6 -
@neldabg, your post above. I just want to say I am happy you have taken these steps now rather than later. I hope other young women will follow your advice. Too many of us older ladies have yoyoed throughout our lives.1

i do 5 days a week with 1900-2000cal and then 2 days of 1600 (on a H, M, L 7 day cycle) through Eat to Perform - focusing on performance - goal of 3 strength sessions a week
i'm currently 156 but lean (tend to get double takes when I get on the scale) - but would like to get down to 150lbs before the triathlon season starts again to improve my bike/run times0 -

Hi Ladies.
All of you seem to be under 200lbs and eating 1800-2500 calories. So, if I've started going to the gym 5 days a week, doing cardio and lifting, and weigh way more than 200lbs, you think I could eat at my BMR of 1800 calories? MFP suggested the regular 1200 when I wasn't working out, which I tried for a couple of weeks, but ended up binge eating a lot. I changed my 'goals' to lose 1.5lbs a week and entered lightly active and it gave me 1880 calories. I went to the gym today and I felt very different, lots of energy and felt 'happy', my mood was actually very positive...

Sounds like you are better eating that higher number anything you can eat at consistent and still lose is the way to go to be happy and healthy imo0 -
I'm 32 y/o, 5'1" and about 106 lbs, and maintain pretty well eating around 1600-1800 6 days a week, and giving myself Saturdays to just eat whatever and indulge. I run a lot though, every day, and lift 3 days a week too.0

Can I have some friends from here, please? Not sure who's actively still losing, but I would love to have some encouragement. That voice in my head tells me all the time to eat less eat less eat less.
I'm 5'10" 190ish pounds. I've lost thirty pounds since June, and my goal weight is around 165.

^^^^ This and make sure you get enough fats and protein to support your exercise. Concentrate on getting your carbs from the high fiber, low sugar carbs, so you are no so hungry.
All the best on your Journey.1 -

I'm 5'8, 202 as of today. My first goal is to reach 180 and not to yo-yo ever again. Hopefully i will have energy to achieve more intense training with this eating!
If you create a group, I'm definitely in.
Please feel free to add me, I need all the support I can. Most of my mfp contacts are starving them selves !
I sent you a friend add2 -
Hi all - so glad I found this thread. I'm 48 198lb and have been on a yo yo diet for most of my adult life - gaining and losing the same 10lbs every year. This year I want to change for good and have started working with a Personal Trainer twice a week who has told me I need to eat more (I was trying to lose on 1400 cals a day). She's increased my intake to 1800 a day which is scary - I can't believe I'm going to lose weight eating this much! Most days its a struggle to get to 1800 but I'm adding in an extra protein shake if I need to to get the right mix. It's early days - since start of January I've only lost 4lb but I'm feeling amazing with loads more energy and have lost a lot of the bloating that I used to have. Please add me as I'd love to have and give support to anyone on a similar journey.1

I'm 36, 5'2, 155lbs. Trying to lose 25 or so. I go to a cardio boxing class 3x per week and will be starting the Strong Curves beginner routine 3x per week as well. Once the weather warms up, I'll add C25K on the lifting days as well.
My TDEE is around 1950 and my plan is to eat between 1600-1750 to lose. Please add me as a friend if you have/had similar stats. Great thread, thanks!0 -
I'm 34, 5'3" and 149lbs - focusing on performance, so no real weight goal and an endurance triathlete (half-ironmen/ironmen). I take it 2100-2400 a day on a cycle - set protein of 130g a day; carbs and fats vary depending - I've lost 10lbs since November doing this1
