I've got 3 also:
1. Hubby and I took the kiddo on our monthly 5K on Christmas eve. We actually had to stop a couple of times (rock in shoe, give kiddo snacks, and refilling her cup). Even with the stops, we still decreased our time from last month.
2. I indulged a bit with food over the holidays, in a perfectly reasonable manner and it didn't lead to a spiral of overeating and shame. I had a half a glass of wine on Christmas and Christmas eve, and a half of an oreo truffle on Christmas. Half was enough, I enjoyed the taste but didn't feel like I NEEDED any more, if that makes any sense.
3. My daughter bought me a t-shirt. It was an XL and it's too big. I wore 3X last year.27 -
I realized that my Christmas presents really said it all in terms of how different I am now.
- tons and tons of Clif bars. My husband filled my whole stocking with clif bars!
- a running outfit from my mother-in-law
- snow shoes
- hiking boots. They fit AND they're cute!!!! (I have HUGE feet so I have to wear men's, but I love "girly" colors so it's a hard life lol)
- snow tube
- yoga blocks

I also really enjoyed the Christmas holiday and ate what I wanted and didn't worry about the calories - and this spanned about a weeks time with all the festivities. However, I weighed myself the morning and am only up a couple of pounds (which I know is most likely water weight) and got right back on track this morning. In the past I would have avoided the scale like the plague and would not have gotten back on track so quickly. Last year I know my excuse was that I might as well wait until the 1st of the year to start the year fresh!10

I was actually planning to start researching all of that on Monday. The only one I've heard of is CRASH-B but I figure Los Angeles will have at least a couple of races (regattas?) I can jump into. Hoping to get on the water in the fall of 2017 as well!
The Concept2 website has a race calendar, as well as a most excellent training log. I'll stop high hijacking this thread now, but I'll start a rowing thread in Fitness to see if we can find anyone else!
There's an MFP rowing group already - join us there!0 -

Shame that my stomach/thighs won't join them . . .
If your bat wings are shrinking then so is the rest of you, well done x4 -
I'm new here but have been reading this message board every day since Nov. 17. (Since then I've lost 2 lbs, which is a great start, I think considering Thanksgiving, 4 birthdays, Christmas Eve dinner.) At said dinner last night, my 3-year-old niece figured out how to use her mom's phone and went around snapping our pics and SHOWING THEM TO US. OMG. I went into the bathroom, looked myself in the eye, and said, "You are a beautiful woman and are going to have such an adventure. It won't be long before you are posting NSVs like the ones you read: jeans fitting, ring fitting, skinny shadow, tying shoes, etc., etc. Now enjoy your wonderful evening." Before reading all your posts, I would have said something more like, "How can you be so disgusting?" Thank you everyone who posts here for being such inspirations. I hope I can join you soon in sharing some other NSVs. BTW, I'm reading posts backward, which is so much fun. I'm on page 235. I can see a post and think, "Don't worry, girl, in about 5 more pages you're going to feel much better." It's kind of like "Back to the Future." MERRY CHRISTMAS, to all.
YOUR NSV is that you turned what could have been a negative event into a positive one - 2lbs gone is a 2lb loss, well done x5 -

The dreaded bat wing. Bwahahaha. I get it. LOL and the stomach and thighs will too!0 -
My son gave me a hug the other day and said, "Mom, you're always pretty but, you're not as chubby anymore. You're a little chubby like me, but that's ok!" Love that little guy to pieces!14

One of daughters came home for Christmas - I have not seen her in a year- she lives in Utah... anyway, she came in the door and just looked at me for a second and then she said "mom......you are so little now" Let me put this in context: I am only 5'2 and she is nearly 6 ft tall. All weekend she kept staring at me and commenting how hard I have worked. It felt really good.

Children can say THE most adorable things sometimes (unless a teenager then they are just plain rude; I have two in the house now ).
Reminds me of something my youngest (who's three) said when hearing that I was losing weight and getting smaller; she burst into (very real) tears and cried that she "didn't want me shrinking into a baby!" as she liked me as I was . . . took ages to explain to her that I wouldn't regress into a baby, I'd just get thinner What a sweetie, apart from when she "flaps" my bat wings22 -

My daughter writes notes to me that say, "Mommy I love you because you are squishy." cutie pie8 -
Got 260 lbs / 129 kg squat for five reps, matching my estimated one-rep maximum of 303 lbs / 137.5 kg. It puts me in position to start breaking my own records immediately in the new year.32

but meanwhile it's snowing, and we get VERY slippery lawsuit-breeding type snow. so i went out there this morning with an industrial-grade dustpan i found in a forgotten closet.
third-world squat is a thing. a very comfortable thing.
I admire your tenacity, but go ahead and buy a shovel. Just tell them your old one broke; there are legit reasons to get shovels during winter

I've been waiting to be able to wear a pair of jeans I bought when I was thinner. Today, they fit great and I could comfortably wear them to run errands. However, I realized I don't like them anymore Now I've got to lose another jean size so I can buy trendier jeans.15

I've been reading this thread since I joined in January, but I thought I'd finally post. I've been so inspired by you all!
One of my biggest NSVs is that I finally kept my promise to myself -- that yearly "new year's resolution" that I had failed time and time again.
I was borderline obese last year this time. Now I'm at a healthy bmi. I've run ever faster 5ks (from 50 down to 37 minutes, trying for under 30 now), managed to stop falling over trying to do squats and lunges, lifted heavier and heavier weights, dropped 2 shirt sizes and 4 pants sizes, and finally had my doctor NOT give me the not-so-subtle "you should really lose weight" talk. In fact I was congratulated. Most importantly, I don't cry looking in the mirror anymore.
I'm only, say, 3/5 of the way through my journey, but it'll probably only be NSVs from now on. My most recent NSV (though it's a tad scale-related) is only weighing myself every few weeks the past couple months. I've let that dang thing control my mood for years. I'm healthy now, and never again do I want to judge my own worth based on a number again. I would never do that to someone else, so why do it to myself?
Anyway, congratulations to everyone on here for their amazing NSVs. You have no idea what an inspiration you all have been to me to create a healthy relationship with food and exercise.42 -
I got my first "you need to stop losing weight because you're small enough" comment. Woohoo. I still have a few pounds to go, but I'll take that compliment anyways.14

nope. i like the mcgyver thing or in my dad's definition of it 'you children. always have to be different.' the deep squat position actually was more comfortable than a shovel since i'd just done a whole perversely demanding 5x10 squat workout that day.
plus, if i were buying a shovel i'd have to drive to the store. i ain't driving nowhere until it's safe again. i've been biking thanks to my special super-badass studded bike tires, but even with studs the ground's very squirmy and unpredictable what with ruts and ice-chunks. you kind of have to ride like a stunt cyclist and be ready for anything, so i don't want to add something as unwieldy as that to my challenges.

I had a lovely christmas with family.
My mum looks and feels so much better after loosing 20Kg - She finally decided it could be done after she saw me loosing. She told me she had never expected my legs to shrink as much as they did/do and that she was majorly impressed with my will power to keep it up.
Best NSV; Telling dad off for not telling me he was going to go to the gym on the 27th. Had I known I'd brought my stuff and would have joined him. Now I had to wait to get home and go to the gym then - which I did. Dad had a huge laugh about it He islooking forward to going to the gym with me. He thinks I'll outperform him17 -
My hubby told me I have "twiggy arms" and my daughter told me I have a tiny butt....I have NEVER had a tiny butt:):):)16

I broke my ankle on the 25th if September. Today I finally managed to walk up and down the road without my walking stick.33

Stopped logging and enjoyed the last month or so of "fun" food but kept up my 4x/week lifting schedule. I noticed a week or so ago that I've been progressing like crazy in my lifting, then realized it's probably because I'm eating at a slight surplus now. So instead of berating myself for gaining a few pounds, I just reframed it as a bulk--I'm about to start cutting now
That change in how i think about the weight gain and inevitable need to lose again makes a huge difference.16 -

That's so great to read! I'm sure it won't be long before you're posting a few NSVs of your own here too, with that fabulous new mindset!18 -
made my own yogurt by pouring a gallon of milk into the crockpot and then sitting up until 3 am.
worth it though. i feel drunk with power.30 -
First triple digit free weight lift today! 100 lbs on the bench press. Now to clarify, I mean the 45 of the bar plus 55 in plates, but that does equal 100!22

i was standing in the pantry looking for something to mindlessly snack on when i realised 1) I didn't really want the block of chocolate there even though it is one of my biggest "treat" foods and 2) I can feel the bottom of my ribs! I managed to close the pantry door this time17
