Allie I have been divorced. I felt like a failure. I believed then, and I believe now, that feeling as if I failed was natural and not altogether inaccurate. I am not so sure YOU have failed, however. You seem to have held steady, doing more than your fair share of holding the relationship together, while Tom's behavior has been reprehensible. For me, it was essential to forgive myself for failing, and to acknowledge that I was not the only one who failed, and also to recognize that failing at marriage is not the worst thing a person can do. It's an opportunity for growth. Be brave, be strong, be your own best friend! And hopefully someday you can forgive Tom, too. It's a great relief to go on to the next chapter. My ex and I are friends and co-grandparent extremely well together.
Katie Are you doing the Paleo AIP or some other anti-inflammatory plan? A friend from high school retired and implemented the Paleo AIP with astounding results. Her terrible rosacea cleared up, she lost 50 lbs, her sleep patterns normalized, her depression went away, her energy levels rose dramatically. It was nothing short of miraculous. Before and after pictures look like 2 different people. Maybe it was retirement, maybe the diet, I don't know, but it was incredible.
I have the day off work today. Yesterday was a bear. I will go to Jazzercise in a couple of hours and spend a portion of the day puttering in the garage and also getting organized for taxes. Later my partner and I are going to a movie and dinner.

Hi. My name is Michelle. I turn 50 this year. I've been on MFP for a long time. I am pretty active. I do strength training cycling and hiking. Pretty much at my goal weight. I just had a partial hysterectomy on Thursday so I'm sidelined for a while which I hate but I'm hoping I will feel better not having all the fibroid issues I was having.
I am married. 2 kids 19 and 25. And 5 dogs!!!!
Please feel free to add me as a friend. I love reading everyone's goals for the new year.
My big goal for this year is to complete a Reebok Spartan Trifecta. If you're not familiar they are obstacle course races. Like tough muddier. They have three different races of varying lengths and number of obstacles. I did my first in 2016. The shortest one which kicked my butt so doing all three is going to be a challenge of epic proportions at my age. But I'm going to train hard once I can start working out again. Having an empty nest for the first time. This gives me a focus. My first race is May 20.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday! Hoo-boy! 5:30 came early today! I had my alarm set for 5:00 so I could fit in a walk and my exercises...I got the walk in; the exercises will have to be done tonight (or at naptime, if I get everyone to sleep).

Janet- I was just thinking about Mia, yesterday, as I responded to a new member from Michigan (Mia was from the east side of the state). So glad she has recovered from surgery. Next time you talk to her, let her know we are thinking of her and sending good thoughts on her job search!
Pip- Yaassssssss! I am loving that Matrix machine! I have never been on one, but I love resistance machines like that! I also love the Black Eyed Peas music in the video. You and Kirby look adorable, as always
Allie- hugs to you as you navigate this time in life. Just thinking aloud; does your phone have a memo app or notes app? Mine does, and I use it to jot down notes to myself, grocery list, diary additions, etc. I find it much handier than a notepad.
Well, as I have been sitting, reading, and composing this post; I have had three calls from parents stating that their child(ren) won't be here due to illnesses. Happy, because that eases me into my schedule a bit; but not happy because they will probably be coming back this week with extra germs to share! Kids beginning to trickle in...I better scoot!

OMG ! I cant keep up with you lot and your wonderful posts! I weighed in this morning for my starting point (wished I hadn't!) also took measurements yesterday so I don't get hung up on what the scales are saying. Spinning tonight and again tomorrow but also booked in for a pick me up hair cut afterwards. If anyone would like to "friend" me I would love to hear from you and hopefully not loose you in the thread

Hello everyone! I'm new to this thread but excited to now be a part of it! I turned 50 this past year and want to work on staying young! I love the concept of having resolutions instead of goals. SO, my January resolutions are:
1. Log everything I eat, every day ... I love the comments about logging every lick, sip, bite, etc. That made me laugh.
2. Do something joyful each and every day. I have too many things on my plate and I tend to forget to stop and smell the roses! I need to start smelling the roses!
3. Find ways to do Random Acts of Kindness. I started doing more of this in 2016, but want to kick it up a notch for 2017.
My word for the month is Commitment. I want to commit to the resolutions I just created for myself.
Thank you to each and everyone of you who provide support and motivation on this message board!

I have a feeling this is going to be a winning strategy for me as well, as I love fresh veggies and today was so promising.

Motorcycles... I used to own and drive a Yamaha 600cc, my first DH had a Harley ( still has it!). I was very reckless and surprised I never crashed. I was on the bac of the Harley with my 18 month old between us and my 5 year old in front of DH two days before giving birth to my now 32 year old son! I shudder now thinking about haw dangerous that was....
Allie, you are strong and can get through this. Check in often for support, txt me when you can, visit and talk to friends, all as much as you can. We all love and support you.

Saw Oprah on CBS Morning show promoting WW and her new cookbook ....she says she lost 42 lbs in 2016. I decided then & there that MFP can help me do the same! I'm 62 yo and had quite a year in 2016 of 2 parent caretaking, selling home, complete renovation of my new urban style loft (it is beautiful, finally!), broken foot which is still sore preventing my dance exercise love, & emotional eating to help that nervous stomach ache.
I know TMI.
My point is I'm making a daily commitment "now" to be here daily and comment my gratitude and successes....and ask for support from new friends.
My daily gratitude: Thank you to my body, for being durable and support my frame. This is the beginning of taking care of you better. (...thanks Oprah)

Good morning ladies! For those of you that were interested in doing the 40 pounds lost by May 27 challengethis is what we're doing for the month of January.
1. Take the fitness test at the beginning of the month and at the end of the month.

Dr Katie - In YOUNGER NEXT YEAR they say that regular vigorous exercise, 6 days a week, for 45-60 mins a day is the best anti inflammatory drug there is. I have certainly found it so. I bought a heart monitor to ensure I get my heart rate up at least into the moderate zone for some of my exercise time. (I do in total 100 mins a day 6 days a week, but only some of that gets my heart rate right up). I have found almost all my aches and pains have disappeared. I am also supplementing with D3 drops, but I have no idea if that is helping. I don't eat much sugar, but then, I never have, so that can't be the difference. It is noticeable how much less pain I am in, especially at night. It used to be constant and debilitating.
Yoga today. That is my other day's exercise. It's great and I love the women there, some in their 80s, but it doesn't boost the calories by much. Sometimes I fit in something in the afternoon, or go out shopping. It's obviously good for flexibility, balance etc. I do those exercises every day as well in my regime. Balance and core strength are vital as we age.
Off to wash my hair and defrost the car!

So Am I! Depending on what the disability is you can modify any type of exercise. Even if it is sitting and using dumbbells. Or as simple as moving when you normally don't. Good luck!

One of our cars has a dead battery and the battery should still be under warranty. We need to charge it enough to start the car and take it into the battery dealer. I guess that will take up a chunk of our morning today.

I spent a week chipping the ice off our driveway. My knee is killing me as a result and woke up to glare ice completely covering our driveway and sidewalk. To say I am frustrated is putting it mildly.
DH is off to see if he can find any kitty liter and or more salt to put down. I had some but was ill prepared for how bad it is. Main road are fine because they are treated.

Cheri I just finished the salad which I made in your honor because I remember you like chop salad with lots of "stuff" on it. I have to say this was a delicious lunch today for about 200 calories. I am full and really enjoyed crunching.

Lenora, yes I throw the whole lemon in the blender, rind and all. Once blended you pour it through a strainer to remove the parts that didn't liquefy. My recipe, after straining, fills 3 16-oz Tervis Tumblers exactly. I pop the lids on and store in the fridge. The eating plan I downloaded suggests almond or cashew butter rather than peanut. I've bought an almond butter before that I like okay that doesn't need stirring or refrigeration.
Karen, I downloaded a free anti-inflammatory plan from Paleo Secret. They tried to up-sale me a bunch of services that I resisted. I haven't gone hard-core yet, but I'm working on my shopping list and menu. The biggest thing for me is going to be to give up my Spark, which has sucralose, and my powdered protein shakes.
Heather, I already do 60+ minutes of strength training with weights five days a week and 3 miles of walking 7 days a week. I think I get the exercise. I watched a video that I got from Michelle on strong knees that says the best thing to strengthen knees is to strengthen quads, calves, and glutes. I'm working on that, too. If this sugar thing doesn't work, I'm making an appt with the orthopedist for an evaluation and/or cortisone shots. Losing another 30 or 40 lbs would probably help, too.1 -
Margaret- I heard you got the rain! We got 6 inches of snow! It just doesn't stop. How are you doing on your challenge? Have you learned how to navigate the site. One of the things that I noticed is that sometimes you have to go it all the way to the bottom of the thread and click on view all discussions. Because, sometimes the Challenge or weigh in thread gets moved all the way down there. If you ever need any help let me know!

I do LOVE a great chopped salad! So glad you remembered and enjoyed yours. I actually have a salad made up and in the fridge waiting for dinner tonight with some leftover salmon! I must go shopping and up the fresh veggies in the fridge! I had 4oz of baby carrots for my morning snack! And without dipping them in something. Crunchy, chewy, carrot sweetness!

grandmallie - Wishing you peace and clarity as you navigate a difficult path. From what you've said here, you've tried hard to make it work with someone who wasn't trying.
KetoneKaren, Penny, Heather, et al - I am totally trying that veggie thing! I love the idea of having a set amount to munch on throughout the day. I don't love raw veggies, but a plate of carrots, tomatoes, peppers, snap peas, and cucumbers would be OK.
My riding is a conscious choice. Everything we do involves risk, and I do my best to mitigate that with training, practice, defensive driving, and good gear. I belong to a group of women motorcyclists that was established in 1941. Many of them have been riding longer than I've been alive, and given my age that's saying something! The group was founded to present a positive image of women in motorcycling, and they are a true sisterhood. The crash was just a dumb mistake on my part, on my way home from our annual convention, and it was a learning experience although it's one I hope not to repeat.
My new obsession is pecan butter. We had a bumper crop from our pecan trees this year, so I tried making nut butter and it is delicious. Have not had the nerve to look up the calorie content, though. It's something to use sparingly!

New to posting...New to all of this...Am committing to losing weight and exercising more this year. Thought posting here and staying active on this post would help me in my commitment.
My resolutions for January are:
tracking every food every day
exercising 3 days per week; 30 minutes per day
getting 8 hours of sleep per night
being purposeful about being kind everyday to everyone
on Feb. 1, reflect on January resolutions and make new ones for February

Allie - I know this must be a very difficult path. Little steps not giant leaps right now. You are being very proactive in the midst of the difficult challenge of still having to deal with Tom.
Yvonne - I tried a jar of nut butter. Loved it!.....Too much!. Just give me the jar and a spoon. Pecans are my favorite so I know it would be a red light food for me. Glad you are able to enjoy your pecans sensibly. Yum.
Margaret, Mary, and more - I'm sorry old man winter is being so grumpy up there. We are having highs in the 60s today. UGG! I just like the seasons to keep their true identities.

I just finished an hour and twenty minutes of weight resistance work, including crunches and squats and I am worn out. I know I only did the entire work out a couple of times on our three month trip and have only done parts here and there since we've been home. Well getting back at it regularly but I'll probably be a bit sore tomorrow.

Rainy icky day here, but I am headed to the gym and then off to figure out what to make from leftovers....I've got brussell sprouts and broccolli, we'll just have to see what i can do with that.
