Does anyone watch Code Black on CBS???? It is an excellent medical drama, the best since ER was on. I need some one to help me understand last night's episode! The huge twist at the end just has to many meanings in my mind and I am not understanding it. I was going to re-watch it but deleted it off my DVR.
Most of you know we had our tiny master bath done last November. The poor guy thought he was done with us when he finished and we paid. Well last week our hot water heater went out. Also the float in the commode wasn't working right. So he fixed the float and for over $800 installed a new hot water heater. Well Charlie takes another shower and doesn't have enough hot water for shower. So he comes back out again and does something hoping it will help. Last night it went out again. So he comes today, makes another adjustment tells us to take another shower to see how it goes. Well our shower head is like most of all other shower heads and is a water saver. So he just turns on the faucet in the bath tub and gets cold water after 8 minutes. So the guy has to come out tomorrow. Poor guy, he isn't being paid all these times since this thing is a week old.
Our pianist at church is a such a super person, in talent, compassion and just life. She and her husband were the church's janitor and she the pianist. Plus she has MS. I never understood how she did it. Then he got dementia and it kept getting worse. So she dropped the janitor and tried to keep up the pianist. Luckily our organist is just as good as she is and takes over. Kenny was one of our best basses in the choir, even with dementia he still was a good choir member. As long as some one made sure he had the right page he sang just as well. When she finally couldn't take care of him at home and put him in a nursing home he started going down hill, falling a lot, not eating or sleeping. Yesterday he fell and they took him to ER and he had had a severe brain bleed. He is now in hospice care, not responding and I am afraid we will be loosing Kenny. I am sure heaven will be getting a wonderful bass to sing in it's choir. I hope he doesn't have to suffer long.
For those who have face book, you know it gives you the ability to see your memories. So every day now I am seeing my Mom die again. It was one day this week that we had to send her to ER and they did a CT scan and saw a broken hip and that the break was because of cancer. We were given a prognosis of 6 months but she died in 6 weeks. God was taking care of us in that my sister and I were going to be her care givers along with the senior center she was living. She had been there for about 5 years and a very favorite resident. You had to pay if you wanted any nursing care but they told us that they would provide any and all nursing care she needed free of care as long as she needed it. So my sister, with fibro and many ortho problems along with a terrible back and then me with my MS and bad back, were going to be those care givers. After she had her hip repair, she was sent to a wonderful rehab place and then would go to her apartment. One of the physicians assistants recommended a hospice before discharge for pain control. Well as soon as Mom got in her bed there in the hospice, her body started letting go. It was a very long 3 weeks for Mom to finally let go. I lost my love of God for a little bit until the provider that came and put the special IV line for her Morphine. Mom was so swollen that the Morphine they were giving her was just weeping out of her skin. The philosophy of this IV provider was Jeremiah 29:11 which was Mom's favorite Bible verse and her life verse. For those of you who want to and have a Bible, you can look it up. I am not here to preach it. But when I saw that verse on their flyer, I just lost it. I knew then that God had not ignored Mom and all her love for Him. We have to wait for God's time. Whoops, a little bit of preaching there. Anyway, being a nurse and a daughter was pretty hard for those weeks. But I couldn't have done it without hospice. And I guess God knew my sis and I couldn't do hospice in her apartment and that we needed to be cared for ourselves by the hospice staff. Hospice gave me such a different viewpoint of nursing. I wished I was going back to work after so I could practice that.
Wheeeeeew, where did all that come from? I guess Kenny being in hospice tonight and facebook giving me my memories. So far they are OK but I know what is coming. It's been 6 years now and I know Mom and Dad are together again with their daughter who died when she was 20 of cancer.
OK, enough for tonight, Joyce, Indiana0 -
Hi everyone! It has been a busy day and I'm tired. That alarm clock will sound off early for work so I am going to head for bed. I am thinking of you all and so excited about the wonderful choices many of you have been making and the great pictures you have been posting. My thoughts and prayers go out to those of you experiencing loss, pain, heartaches, bad weather, and uncertainty. I'm encouraged by your kindness, ideas, successes, humor, and ideas. I love that this is a safe place to share those moments of weakness and discouragement. Thanks for welcoming us newbies.

Did an hour of a body pump DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a step DVD.
After exercise, went to Bi-Lo to get things on sale then took our aluminum to the Humane Society. Came home and had something else to eat then went to volunteer at the Green Room. Afterwards went to Aldi. Had Newcomer bowling tonight.
Marcelyn - one of the things that I could never understand about WW was how something was "free". Everything, even celery, has some calories. but I still think that compared to a lot of other diets, they are the best.
Gloria - how trus that you can't outrun your fork
Rita - good girl tossing out those spiced jellies!
pip - loved rocky in his coat
Mary - prayers for your DIL. Update: so glad our prayers were answered.
Cheri - lovely pics. Thanks for sharing them
Re - yea for no more pre-diabetes. Good luck with the MRI. I didn't need to go to the gym today without makeup, for some reason I woke up early enough to put it on!
Joyce - I'm so sorry about your pianist

thanks so much Sherry. I am one of many here who can relate.
You all have been posting pics of hubbies. I will try to! I have one I wanted to post, I had labeled it contentment because it was of him and the cat and he looked so peaceful. But I can't find it. This one is him and oldest granddaughter of a couple of years ago. She is 15 now and a little more grown up. Ok, here goes
Ok, so I still didn't find the right one. This one is a pic of him and his grand daughters about 10 years ago. Then I put a pic up of the jeans quilt I made, a pic of our cat Melody and the last is one of the most precious pictures I have ever seen our oldest was quite young as you see. She is talking to her hamster. Well they aren't in the order I thought but I take it you all can figure out which one is my husbandand which one is a hamster.

Good morning, it is so inspiring reading all your posts. I am an early bird, usually up by 0500 and off to work by 0650 so this is a great way to start my day. My biggest challenge is logging everything I put in my mouth. I think I am an unconscious liar lol! And when I am already over my target, I figure what the heck. I am so committed to exercising but always struggle with the food part. I have been diagnosed with high cortisol which is common as you age but wow it makes weight loss harder. So I don't like to wine just want to put my reality out there. Thanks for reading my post and have fantabulous day!3

Morning all,
Thanks for the good wishes on the warehouse selling - no further word, of course... I had a nice, quiet day yesterday, got some cleaning done. Today, I think I've got enough energy to get back to work on the T-shirt quilt, so that's what I'm going to do... Katla, I'm sorry for the delays... Joyce, thinking about you as always.
Karen, your daughter and DH picture is wonderful.
And, since we're sharing DH pictures, here's me and mine, almost exactly eight years apart. In the first one, which is my favorite all-time picture of the two of us, we were dating, and it was at the Black & White Ball, the only ball I've ever attended, and tremendous fun. The second was recently, oddly enough at the same venue, different event, the annual Glitz Fashion Show here. Not fond of the second one, but it's mainly because I look so tired... I think he aged a bit better than I have, as well, but then, I'm nine years older. He's 39 and I'm 48 in the first pic.
Love y'all,

Karen - Beautiful - both of them. Your DH looks so young! Mine is 71. But he's young at heart.
Joyce - Lovely post from you. You write so movingly. ((((HUGS))))
Feels a bit odd today being at home when I was expecting to be up in London. I could easily have got there, but my friend was panicking about the snow forecast so she got a substitute. I will go on Feb 20th.
Dragged myself through my exercises this morning, but at least I did them, even if not exuberantly.
Our painter friend turned up as the sun is shining and he could see what still needed another coat. All done now.
I so wish I could post the new video of Bea, but I don't want to go through the Utube route. She is in her high chair and getting very excited about dancing to The Hall of the Mountain King. Cheers the heart. We are Skyping on Sunday at 11.30.
Re - Have you read Younger Next Year.? I have it on my Kindle. Not because you need it - you don't - but I have found it a wonderful confirmation of all the hard work I am putting in with the exercise. I can now visualise all the great things that are happening inside my body when I truly exert myself. The HRM has also spurred me on. Today, I'm afraid, I just went through the motions, but at least I showed up. I might get a knee support so I can do kettlebell swings again. My bad knee doesn't like them.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -
morning again ladies~
I indulged in a few things last night and my body is feeling it..wont be doing that again anytime soon...I was very proud of myself when I went shopping yesterday,, I did buy myself 3 kind bars ,but got mostly fruits and veggies for myself.. got stuff to make chili and pot roast for Tom..yep I am still cooking and cleaning and all that other stuff and keeping the peace. but will have to sit down and speak with him this weekend to see how he wants to proceed, again like I said if he starts putting up a fuss. then all bets are off.. I will do what I need to do to protect myself... working 8:30-5 today and we are jam packed solid.. so will just bring small things to snack on as my stomach is just not sitting right..4 -

Marni love the posters.
Melatonin is a hormone and I agree with the author since I am trying to regulate my hormones taking that is not necessarily the answer. Raising it naturally with tart cherry juice is what I am trying. I also use the essential oil chamomile to help relax me and I use it on my knee as an anti-inflammatory. I am trying to naturally lower my cortisol levels because I know they are high from where I am storing my fat. My knee does not help with this either. I am meditating again and I am finding that helpful too. Meditating is something the author also recommends.
Sherry love the minions poster.
Lisa you look so happy and gorgeous!

Hi, This is cat. I have only posted a couple times on this friendly thread. There are so many people on here I am having trouble keeping track. My update is that I am gaining a few pounds not losing. I know two times this week I was over my 1400/day cal. goal but one day by only 100 cals. I gave up yesterday after starting off breakfast with 2 Krispy Crème donuts on the office "Thursday donut day". I have restarted my exercise program with weight training and cardio (at this time I can only handle 20 minutes of multi-machine cardio at 120 cal per session.) I am going to keep counting the calories and logging as accurately as possible and keep moving it at the gym. I know I cannot give up. I have borderline high cholesterol and I am just tired of lugging around all this weight and not being able to wear cute clothes or tuck my shirts in.
I am single with no children by choice so I certainly have the time after work to hit the gym especially since my boyfriend does the cooking, cleaning and laundry However, I am the main bread winner which is OK for now. He is looking for a new job that is easier on his body than construction and remodeling and I am very supportive of his efforts.
I am able to play 9 holes of golf with a cart and my BF and I do that together in the warmer months. I was hoping to restart quilting but I am having trouble figuring out where in my smallish house I can put the sewing machine and all that goes with it. I joined 2 women's meet-up groups that I attend occasionally. It has been good meeting women my age to socialize with I am 56. Well, that is a bit about me. I am going to try to follow the posts more closely to learn about you all.
Best,

Thanks Margaret.. good info on the melatonin It's one of the few things I can take. DH loves it because he says his dreams are like watching a good movie every night. Hope your knee is feeling better soon.

Don't worry about keeping up. Read for inspiration and respond with something that is on your mind. I read this thread once or twice a day and the thoughts stay with me all day.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes for my DDnL. Nothing broken just feels beat up. She can't take pain pills because they make her sick so is on a muscle relaxer which is helping her to rest.
Sherry - sorry to hear about your accident. Two weeks is a long time! Thanks for the cartoons!
Gotu52- welcome to our group! Have you ever tried the Keto diet? It is a fat burning diet and gets rid of belly fat and really fast! My DH and I are getting ready to go Keto for 3 weeks in February. We are slowly cutting down on carbs and increasing our protein and fat intake now. When we were doing Keto earlier this spring we both dropped 7-9 lbs the first week and 4 lbs each week after for 4 weeks total. We ate a lot of eggs and bacon, steak, deep fried fish, ribs, ham, chicken and turkey! As much as we wanted. I usually ate 6oz of protein at every meal. Good bye cortisol!

msfanglet: You asked how we keep up with this thread. I stop in more than once a day most of the time. I respond only when I have something that I think/hope is supportive so I don't always comment to everyone. Sometimes I read and put in a smiley, star or heart to mark my place. This is a busy thread, and January is usually the busiest of all because so many people make a New Years Resolution to lose weight and somehow stumble into our wonderful group. Some people stay and others drift away. :flowerforyou:
Karen: Your daughter is gorgeous. I love the picture with her dad.
Lisa: I love the pics of you and your DH. Gorgeous!
I am not inclined to go to yoga today due to snow on the roads, so I'll ride the recumbent bike in the garage instead. Our weather forecast is a high of 34F and a low of 10F. It is currently 14F. I have an appointment for a hair cut and it is within walking distance. I plan to go. I can walk to the beauty shop from home but I may choose to drive. Well see.

Thanks gals for sharing. I joined a yoga class on Tues and Thursday. I've been doing a seniorcize aerobics class on MWF since Sept. Now I just need to get my sugar and carbs under control. I learn so much reading the posts and especially I don't feel like I'm fighting battles that are unique to me. That is such a good feeling. I'll try to write more about my life soon but wanted to say thanks to everyone for welcoming me and for sharing.
