@lporter229 thanks! I ran a 14 mile last July but, somehow asking that extra tenth of a mile and knowing it's just getting longer made this one seems more significant0

I guess I should've specified my trees are always ARTIFICIAL Got all that done today, through a lot of back pain. So hopefully I'll feel good to run tomorrow.
@shanaber That sounds so mysterious about your heart I hope they figure it out. Be careful1 -
Date Distance Total To Goal (55)
2/1 3.0 Mi 3.0 52.0 Mi
2/2. Yoga
2/3. Rest
2/4. 5.0 Mi. 8.0. 47.0 Mi
First 5 miler since I got sick and it was a balmy 4 degrees out. Took forever to warm up and the ground was rock hard the whole time but it felt good. I am stiff and sore tight now but being in a cold hockey arena doesn't help. Tomorrow should be a 3 Mi but I am considering switching it with Monday and doing cross training and stretching instead.
Since I need to pull out my spare/new shoes as mine are almost dead, I ran up to Olympia Sports to see what they had. I picked up a pair of Asics GT 3000 and a pair of Asics GT 2000 and a new phone arm band. Because I got 2 pairs they were 25% off, can't beat it. They have a limited selection sometimes but I can't beat the deals when they have what I want.

@MNLittleFinn congrats on the PR, and the no-pain bonus!! We still have our (fake) tree up too. We hope to get it down tomorrow, but running comes first, naturally.
@katharmonic great run! I love seeing fresh snow. Glad to hear Stella is on the mend.
@NikolaosKey sorry you're going to miss your race.
@lporter229 congrats on an awesome race! I would sweat the short distance on your GPS. It's very tough for those satellite signals to get in a tunnel so that's just the way it goes. Too bad Strava doesn't let you adjust your distance like Garmin Connect will.
@shanaber sorry to about the Dr's visit. It must be frustrating to have them say it's "not normal" but not doing anything about it.
@ROBOTFOOD I *love* Cinnamon Toast Crunch! It's never moved me to sign up for another race though.
@garygse great race! Not a lot of people ahead of you.
@Ohhim that's hilarious that you practiced your jokes...on a treadmill! Nice pace job.
@MobyCarp that's pretty cool that your finish was key to a team championship! Very nice job! Driving on icy roads in the mountains worthy of being scared. I consider myself an experienced, very capable Minnesota winter driver but I damn near had to change my shorts last winter when I made the stupid decision to drive down Mt. Hood in Oregon when the night before we had freezing rain on the way up, changing to ice then snow overnight. Most scary driving incidents are over in a split second. This one lasted nearly an hour.

I slept in, had a nice breakfast, did dishes, and finally made it out to the trail at 1:30. My goal was 20 but the second loop ended at 18.3 and I was too tired, and too sore to go any further. Also the sun was starting to set. I had enough light for a short out & back to get another 1.7, but I used that as an excuse to quit anyway. Sore hips, sore hamstring, and a dull ache in both Achilles. It all surprised me as I figured two days off plus sleeping in would have made for a good run. No matter, I'll tack on the other 1.7 miles to tomorrows run.
I'm finding myself completely uninterested in the football game tomorrow. Maybe I'll clean the garage instead.

Thanks all for your kind words of condolence- you are such a lovely group . Ran a 22km, wanted to shoot for 30 but treadmill plus raging cold equals a suboptimal time on a 22 lol.

@Ohhim I love pacers like you - they really keep me going.
I had an unscheduled rest day yesterday so am increasing the miles today. Struggling to find my rhythm with running but I hope that by pushing through I will get there0 -
5/2 - 6 miles
Feb total - 13 miles2 -
Finally got out for my first run in two weeks, and in fact managed two easy runs today. Ran 6.6km to the cinema, watched Lego Batman (loved it!) then came back the direct route which worked out as 5.5km. Felt good to be running again finally, and even better that I was able to do those distances without feeling like I was going to keel over as I did in pretty much all my January runs due to persistent cold.
Hopefully this will kick start February into action and I can get somewhere near my goal despite the slow start.
01-Feb: 1.7km treadmill intervals [TM]
02-Feb: 3.4k treadmill [TM]
05-Feb: 6.6k + 5.5k easy5 -
Felt lazy/tired this morning so I didn't get my run in. I figure it's only a 3 mile day, so I can get my run in during the first half hour of Little Man's nap, then shovel the driveway.3

234 posts since I last checked in here... that's a testament to how well you are all doing, as much as it's a testament to how badly I've been doing. Well done for all of you who are smashing it
I'm not going to lie, this has been an awful week from start to finish. I've been ill, suffered extreme stress like nothing else I've ever experienced, was ill again, put myself in a stupid situation that could have ruined the best thing that's ever happened to me, and then decided that the way to cope with all of this was to go out and get so incredibly drunk. I've been eating badly too, as well as being unable to run because of being ill, and have basically done everything I shouldn't have to make it, and myself, worse.
I'm only saying this to hold myself accountable for what I've been doing, as I realised last night that it had to stop, so here I am admitting that everything has gone a bit off track. All I can say is thank goodness that this was a cutback week anyway, so it doesn't really matter that I've messed up. And actually, I've only missed one 4 mile run, as I never intended to do a long run this week because I had a 5 mile race today instead. But yesterday, I didn't think I'd make it out to the run this morning, I felt so awful.
Anyway, despite still feeling really rough and quite weak, I dragged my backside out of bed this morning to run for my team at their cross-country meet. I've never done XC before, and didn't think I had a good run in me, but I had read that only the first 3 women score points, and I know I'm not top 3 in the club anyway (the rest basically run to make up the numbers across the age ranges you have to include, and by getting a good score you can push others down the table). However, I went and decided to push myself to see what I could do. The course was incredibly wet and muddy, I went into a muddy puddle up to my hips at one point, but I managed to run the 2nd fastest 5 miles I've ever run, despite the hills (345ft elevation over 3 miles before you come back down the other side).
Overall, I came in 4th in the women's team, and it turns out that the information I had read was out of date and that the top 4 women now score, meaning I smashed a high score for my team! I was over 6 minutes ahead of the 5th place runner, so my being there really made a difference. Over the first 2 miles, I felt sick and shaky, but the more I pushed up the hills, the better I felt and by the time I got to the end, my breathing was harder than I've ever known it, but I was steaming past so many runners. It felt incredible, it's the best runner's high I've had in nearly a year
Suddenly, I feel so much better! The nausea and headache I've had since Monday have gone, I have got my appetite back (seriously, yesterday I ate 1 piece of toast and half a bowl of plain pasta and that's all I could manage, but that's more than I ate on Friday) and I actually feel like I could get up in the morning and go to work without crying, like I can actually sort myself out, like I'm actually able to get through all of this and that I can achieve anything.
Seriously, running is absolutely awesome

Sometime it's better to just hit the road instead of mulling over the target, then one kilometre becomes two then more and more...and now 10 km in one stretch does not seem a distant dream to me. I know one of these days I am going to cover it as well, may be not that fast at first but I will do it. Happy running to everyone and happy weekend!!

@louubelle16 I'm sorry you had such an awful week. Hugs! Sounds like the race was just what you needed, awesome job!!!0
-
@louubelle16 - Hugs to you. I think we have all been in a similar position at one time or another. Figuring out what you need to do to pull yourself up before it spirals out of control is a huge victory in itself. Add to that a fantastic run and it looks like things are heading in the right direction for you...congrats!!0

I only ran a 14 mile long run today. I met two friends from my running group and they were doing 14. I was debating if I should add on 6 solo for my 20 or swap it with next week. When they finished up, I was still feeling pretty strong and probably would not have had a problem knocking out another 6, but I also knew that after yesterday the legs could really use a rest and saving the 20 for next week would not really be a big deal. The decision was made when my friends said they were heading for coffee afterwards. Coffee with friends after a run is always the best decision!6

@louubelle16 - Well done for getting out there and smashing it! Sometimes the best runs are the ones you were dreading0

Daytona Beach was fun! I started out with the 10:18 pacing group and was hoping to finish in 2:15. I remembered that there was a big hill (the bridge over A1A) so I was hoping to get a lead so that on the bridge I would be with the pacer. I was feeling good and ended up getting way ahead of my pacing group. Then my stomach started churning around mile 6. Absolutely had to stop at port-a-potty and while in there (didn't time it, but probably 2-3mins) the group passed me. I thought eventually I would see them because of the sign she held up, but they were a distant blur. So I tried to just keep that pace or faster. But, I had trouble on the bridge both ways (you go over it - to the beach - then back over it again) and my pace was really slow. I kept stopping for water and would walk a bit.
But the best part was at mile 12 sign I turned it on and passed everyone. I guess that means I didn't push myself enough the rest of the way. Anyway, finished in 2:22 - so 4 minutes slower than last year. If I hadn't had that bathroom issue... oh well!
It was fun and the weather was nice. Legs are quite stiff right now though. Nap time.
2/1 - strength training
2/2 - 4.30 miles
2/3 - rest day
2/4 - cycling 34 miles
2/5 - Daytona HM - 2:22.01
Upcoming races
2/26/17 - Disney Princess HM Orlando

It was a slow chilly, snowy and hill filled run! This is better than any therapy one could pay for!!! Exactly what I needed!!
