I was once told something similar: having babies would "flush out" all the fat. But the person who told me that was a pre-teen trying to be supportive, so they get a pass.
Though, it's sad whoever taught her that.1 -

They also told me that if they drink alcohol with food they can eat more of the things diabetics shouldn't eat - high starch foods, high sugar foods, etc.
I am not diabetic but I am pretty sure those who are insulin dependent are told they should rarely ever drink, if at all.
Scary! The diabetic I knew who drank alcohol died at age 24.
Well she is mid-late 30s and she has already had to have her gums grafted because they were starting to pull away from her teeth . . . which is common among diabetics who don't take care of themselves.0 -

Trainers hate me too.6 -
After gaining some of the weight back that I lost... someone told me, good - you're face was too thin. That's not really daft in regards to weight loss, but daft to me, none the less.
Daft: After having lost 20+lbs, I stopped by a trainer offering free body fat percentage scans at my gym. The % was only 2% lower than what it was when I started losing weight. I asked him, do you have another machine - this can't be right? He goes, no it's definitely right - you probably aren't losing as much fat/weight as you think you are.. I argued and said I've also been heavy lifting, it's impossible. I finally demanded he use a different machine - I was right. Can you imagine if you had low self-esteem/confidence, but were feeling really proud of yourself at this point, and you met this person who basically told you - you haven't changed anything? Scary.

How curious.
Especially because I believe corn (the plant) in fact does only grow in the dark - ie at night. I was told this in connection with trying to grow it where I live - there's only enough sunshine for it in the middle of summer, but at these latitudes, there's very little darkness at that time of year, so while it's getting the energy, it doesn't have much time to actually put on the growth. You can grow it, but it's a gamble, if you get a bad summer it won't come to anything.
I wonder if that is connected or if it's just vague superstitious feeling about "creepy" things that "grow in the dark". I, too, am mystified about what you could actually eat with that rule.1 -

I saw an ad for it on facebook.
Was it Bragg's?
Bragg's is an ACV that also has "The Mother" in it. It's supposed to be organic, and natural hair gurus swear by it. My son found it was good for growing vinegar eels for a science project
I think vinegar is good for making dressings, but the science project for me was nope, nope, nope.....1 -

Vinegar eels make excellent fish food, especially for fry (baby fish).1 -
Friend swore to me they were unable to lose weight because of a "sluggish metabolism". That they were under their calories for the day, as they dug into a full size Applebee's sampler platter...2

My parents can be really cruel sometimes so my mom told me I should quit food for 10 days and start a water diet so then I'll look good0

I dont know if there's any scientific explanation for this but my mum's like I don't have proper flow during my periods because the fat around my belly obstructs it. Lol. I dont have PCOS or thyroid I think I've damaged my body in the past by overexercising and undereating and that's the only reason why my flow is so less!2

I totally read that as glow in the dark at first. If that were true, corn mazes would be really cool.11 -
I went to my chiropractor last night and when I walked in he was talking to his previous appointment about the "blood type diet." Pretty sure I rolled my eyes out loud. Then he began to ask me about my powerlifting, and he about lost his kitten when I told him I was currently on 50% carbs. He seriously asked me "What's the science behind that?" I thought, "You've got to be kidding me?!? You were just advocating the blood type diet to someone, and you want to know the 'science' behind mine?!?"
He's a really nice guy and a terrific chiropractor, but I won't be taking diet advice from him anytime soon.9 -
CafeRacer808 wrote: »CafeRacer808 wrote: »"Sugar is as addictive as heroin."
pertsonally i find this very true .... but i have also heard
SUGAR DOESNT MAKE YOU FAT .
Have you ever taken heroin? Have you ever spent time with people who are addicted and seen first hand what it does to them? Have you ever left your family, alienated your friends and committed a felony so you can get your sugar fix? Have you ever sold your car or your belongings so you can buy a cake?

My son is a heroin addict. His first sentence was 38 months in prison, second sentence he's currently serving is 1 year in jail followed by 6 months residential treatment, followed by 2 years probation. And he still relapsed while in the residential program within days of getting out of jail!! He has 15 felony convictions in three different counties all related to stealing to support his habit. He's lost his daughter, all his belongings, has former friends overdosing right and left (the guy across the street was found dead with the needle still in his arm), and my ex-husbands' entire family won't speak to him. I wouldn't compare heroin addiction to anything but pure hell.20

at first this thread had me cracking up, but now there's 6 pages of these "alternative facts" and i'm just losing faith in humanity
It is actually one of the reasons I stopped practicing Buddhism.
That isn't even a joke.

BIA devices are highly inaccurate. When I started at my current gym, they offered me an initial body assessment with BF% measurement. I asked how they took their measurements and she showed me one of the handheld BIA devices. I said no thanks. I have calipers and a MyoTape at home which I use to take monthly measurements, and although calipers still aren't 100% accurate (nothing but autopsy truly is), I trust the results a lot more than any BIA device.5 -
I had a friend tell me once , "you have been on a diet so many times, you think you would be good at it by now"2

Most BIA scanners are usually not much better than toys.
The fact is that things like time of day, hydration levels, when you last went to the bathroom, the last time you ate, the last time you exercised and even time of month (female) can affect the numbers of ANY body fat measurement.
The "trainer" is incompetent. If it helps then you can tell him I said so.
For what it is worth, a Bod Pod and DEXA scans are better than gym BIA devices, but hydrostatic weighing is the Gold Standard.
Some hospitals and gyms have trucks with dunk tanks that drive around every month or so if you do a Google search.
The easiest thing is just to do a waist measurement at the belly button with a cloth tape once a week, first thing in the morning after using the bathroom.
If your waist measurement isn't moving every few weeks then you may need to make adjustments.
@AnvilHead mentioned calipers which can also work but it can be tough to get an accurate measurement of the same site every time. Takes practice and experience.
And yeah, the only thing more accurate than hydrostatic weighing is an autopsy but that is a bit extreme...
