...dirty word. Oops. But seriously, why so?
2) On a more serious note: @Stoshew71 would say that biomechanically, there is no jog. There is stand (both feet on the ground at the same time), there is walk (one foot off the ground at some point in the gait) and there is run (both feet off the ground at some point in the gait - even just for a millisecond!). There is no definition for "jog".
It's mainly a tongue-in-cheek thing for runners. Many of us despise being called "joggers".6 -
@9voice9 That awesome Pearl Izumi ad campaign of 10 years ago: we are not joggers. Then they had the "respect the run" social media campaign couple years later. They sure laid a claim to the anti-John Bingham (The Penguin) territory, didn't they? Too bad the shoes (Syncrofloat) for me didn't last much past 250 mi, though they were comfy.
My favorite ad was something like: If you want to see who the true runners are, take a peek outside during Mother Nature's next hissy fit.6 -

Just posted a little blurb about my injury/sickness and continuing recovery, over in my thread on marathon training....if anybody is interested in my infernal ramblings....LOL4

Real Goals: Stay healthy. Train well toward Boston. Run well at the USATF Masters 8K Championship in Virginia Beach.
Today's notes – I've been taking Monday as a rest day the last few weeks. This has been driven by Monday scheduling with volunteer work from 2 to 5, and dinner with my daughter at 6. Running would have to happen in the morning, and I typically want to sleep well after the weekend. Also, I had noticed a few weeks ago that I wasn't really recovered enough from hard weekends to run Monday morning comfortably. Monday evening would be okay for recovery, but doesn't work with my schedule.
But today, I had time in the morning without feeling pressured by the schedule. The weekend was fairly light by marathon training standards, and I felt pretty healthy. And the news is full of Winter Storm Stella, which is supposed to start up this evening and give us 11-22 inches (28-56 cm) of snow through Wednesday. That much snow could result in unplanned reductions in mileage run on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, and I could potentially lose some running miles to travel Friday through Sunday. So I got out and hit the road for a short run at 10:30.
The training plan says "easy plus 4 strides" today. I took a familiar 4.3 mile route around my neighborhood, adjusted to add a little distance, and tacked on the strides between fire hydrants on my street. That came out to 5 miles, which wasn't long enough to crunch my schedule or beat me up. Then I went about the rest of my day, and got back to my computer in the evening. As I write this, there are a few snow flakes in the air. I confidently expect I'll be shoveling my driveway in the morning.
The real puzzle is what I do tomorrow and Wednesday if the weather forecast turns out to be accurate. Oh, well. I have all morning tomorrow to look at what's happening and think about what I'll do about it.

Had it in me to run tonight. I figured since I wasn't miserably sick that I'd suck it up and go run, just in case I get worse tomorrow.
Lake effect snow warning tonight into tomorrow. Figures now that it's getting dark later, there's a lot of snow.4 -
I did a quick 2.5 miles on the treadmill tonight.

Planned rest day for me today due to a few things I needed to take care of after work. We're supposed to get a few inches of snow tonight, which is actually pretty much the only real accumulation we've had so far in 2017. Kind of strange that the most we're going to have of winter happened in December and March. For those of you in the Northeast - stay safe! Hope you all don't get the foot or two of snow that I've been hearing about. Tomorrow morning's run should be interesting, unless I decide to hit the gym (I don't mind the snow, but not sure how icy it will be).
@JessicaMcB Hmm, no gyms without childcare? I feel like that's a great business opportunity right there. Hope your non-running days this week go by fast.
@ereck44 Glad to hear of another horseracing fan I haven't kept up with it as much as I would like to since the start of the year but I need to get a move on it so I can pick my KD favorites
@dkabambe It's currently snowing here and you already have tan lines? I guess it's possible that the roles could be reversed next week as Ohio weather can change in an instant
@ariceroni Good luck on your 10 miler!
@KeepRunningFatboy Good to hear that you like the Columbus Marathon as I've heard mixed reviews. That's really neat that you're going for 50 states. My step dad has that same goal, which has resulted in my mom getting in a lot of states too. I've even tagged along to some of them and have completed marathons in 5 different states. I think he's at 20ish? Anyway, enjoy Maine!

Everyone in the NE : Hang on tight, Sounds like you are going to get slapped really hard with a winter storm. Ironically other than some cold days we have had a very mild winter with only about 40cm (16 in) of snow when we usually get at least 120cm (47in). Ours is that light fluffy stuff that you can sweep away with a broom. You are going to get that Heavy Wet Sloppy Miserable crap.0

@ddmom0811 Sorry to hear that. I hope your friend gets better soon.

Wind gusts on my run! Each time there was a huge gust I would think "I'm glad I'm not on my bike!"
Tomorrow it is supposed to be really cold (for Florida I mean) - 40 in the morning. Going to try the 10K Solar Run.
This is a website "for women over 50"... but I think it would be good for any age and it isn't that hard. It's basically push ups, planks and lunges/squats. That's what I always do + a lot more.

Was due to do 45 mins steady today, but was anything but.
I accidentally turned off pace announcements so ran by feel - attempting to hit 5:27/km which would be the faster pace I might go for on Sundays HM. I knew I had set out too fast for the first few km so tried to slow down, but of course slowed down too much. I eventually settled into what felt about right for the last couple of km.
Turns out Kms 2 and 3 were both sub-5 mins so even faster than I thought at the time, (though gives me confidence I could do a sub-25 5k!). The next couple were about 6mins and the last few varied between 5:10 and 5:44. Whilst I had wind (13mph) to contend with I don't even have elevation changes to use as an excuse as deliberately chose a relatively flat route
So, not exactly steady but turns out my average was 5:28/km so pretty spot on my aim - No idea how that happened!
Rest day tomorrow then another steady run Thursday so will try again and hopefully do a bit better!
2-Mar: 1k TM + 7.8k steady

3.03 miles today in 29:30 (9:45 min/mile). We didn't really get much snow (maybe a 1/2") but there was some ice on the roads, however I had on my trail shoes and they served me well. I ran two 1.5 mile intervals with just one short walk break halfway. It still felt harder than I would have liked, but I felt slightly better during those intervals than I did on Sunday.

Anyone know of any virtual races with bling?
I've done 8 HMs and only got bling for one of them, but I think I might like to get something as a memento for the 30 km I'm planning to do on my own soon.
Do you like pie? No, not that pie, the 3.14.... kind of pi.

You intentionally got my hopes up Stan. I thought we all were having pie! Maybe there pie at the finish line?
I aim to please.WhatMeRunning wrote: »Is it fitness pie?

'ey youse, this ain't Chicago! Or Jersey. Haha!!!
You ever hear za referred to as pie in the south? Confuses 'em!
Oh yeah. I very regularly walk into a pizza place down here in Alabama and they ask me want I want, and I answer, "I like to order a pie." They give me this blank stare for 5 seconds till I say, "a pizza pie".
@ddmom0811 I am so sorry about your friend and glad she will be OK.

Felt good when I woke up so I decided to try a 3 mile easy run today instead of the planned 1.5 miles. The cardio is there but the strength is maybe lacking and I walked a fair portion of it. Could also be mental. I'll know for sure by how I feel later, and especially tomorrow.
I'm going to go by feel and push my distance by aiming for 3 miles as my regular daily run distance, these 1.5 mile runs don't seem to be having nearly the impact I had expected in my planning. I don't know how long of a run I may attempt on Saturday, but I am not sure if I have 6-8 miles in me at the moment. Experience tells me I should be able to crank it out if my mind is right. I'll find out on Saturday, I guess!
3/4 - 3 miles
3/5 - 1.5 miles
3/6 - 1.5 miles
3/7 - 1.5 miles
3/8 - 1.5 miles
3/9 - 1.5 miles
3/10 - rest
3/11 - 3 hilly miles
3/12 - 1.5 zippy miles
3/13 - 1.5 hilly miles
3/14 - 3 easy miles
19.5 of 38 miles total

@ddmom0811 - Sorry to hear about your friend. That is scary!
@girlinahat- thanks for the tip on the wristband. I will try it. I have also heard that it can actually be a function of changes in your core body temp. A friend in my running group said that she puts on a tight spandex tank after a run and that always helps her form getting those episodes of post run Reynaud's (which i also sometimes get). i keep forgetting to try it though!
@KeepRunningFatboy - Your race schedule is wearing ME out! Sounds like a good one. I am particularly jealous of the Mount Desert marathon. My hubby and I visited Acadia last year and I told him that I would love to run that marathon. It was amazingly beautiful running there. Also, I will probably be hanging out at the Flying Pig this year. I originally thought I might run the half, but with my current hamstring situation, I will more than likely just be there cheering on friends and fellow runners. Maybe I will run into you (pun intended!).
Lats night I ran eight miles. It was a really nice run in the falling snow. First two miles and last two miles were a bit of a struggle. 4 middle miles felt great. I wanted to run on the flat bike path, but I decided to drive home before the snow started piling up, so I was resigned to my hilly neighborhood. I tried to keep it as flat as possible, but there were still a bit of ups and downs. 165 ft according to Garmin, so not that bad, but I definitely felt the difference on the hills. Hamstring is sore today, but I did my hamstring strengthening exercises this morning, as well as my stretches and a pretty good walk with the dog, so maybe I just need to rest it on some ice at my desk today. Fortunately I have a lot of office work today, so I won't be up and down all day like normal. I have evening PT today as well, so I should get some more strengthening exercises in and a short bike ride today.
Feeling a little better about where things are at, but still quite certain I will not be running the entire time at Boston. My husband asked me if the PT is helping. Yes, I think it is. Isn't it? I don't know anymore. It still hurts to run, but I guess I feel a lot better knowing that I am listening to the advice of a professional and not putting things in my own reckless hands.7 -

Oh man, trying to catch up here! I've still been sick, and so haven't been hitting my miles. Therefore, have been totally bummed and kinda not coming on here as much, lol. I have an immune deficiency that does make me prone to sinus infections, but this fall/winter season has been particularly bad. This cold that I got, immediately after my 2-week-long sinus infection, still hasn't gone away, which puts it at a week and 3 days now. Which means I've been sick now for the better part of a freaking month. I'm so over it. Made an appt with an ENT tomorrow, wondering if maybe my deviated septum has gotten worse (not sure if that can happen? lol), or maybe I'm getting polyps like my dad has? Hopefully there'll be something, otherwise I'll just chalk it up to really bad luck this season.
Sunday I managed 6 miles on the dreadmill, only 2 coughing bouts and 3 tissues used, lol. FINALLY got my Altra Lone Peaks on, did my first 2 miles in them. I've never run in zero drop shoes before, lowest I've done is 8mm, so I'm making sure I really ease into it. I was surprised though by how awesome they felt! No calf/achilles/etc discomfort or strain, during or after wearing them. After 2 miles, paused the dreadmill and swapped back into my regular shoes, but I'm feeling really good about how these shoes feel!
And I have been getting in the habit of weighing daily and tracking it in Libra. I'm definitely seeing the fluctuations where I expect them, like the morning after a Chinese food feast, lol. It will be nice to have some more data and really start seeing the trends over time. I still seem to be losing consistently though. I've noticed that once I really get consistent with weight lifting the weight kinda melts off. I've been getting lots of comments from people who are really noticing the change. I'm only 2lbs above my healthy BMI range now, and am just starting to see some faint bits of definition around my obliques/sides of my ab area. Woot!
I should be running today but I'm in Rockland County, NY and we are in the middle of a blizzard! Lol. Will at least do some shoveling and hopefully maybe a walk or something. Gahhh, I just want to runnnnn!!!6 -
bwahaha. Unless it's a group run - then I'm usually standing there looking grateful for the free break.5
