Good morning all! Happy Monday! Well, I will start with an update on the trip to TX. As you know, the visit with DD and her DH and grandbaby Joaquin was absolute HEAVEN! We got the cleaning and repairs done, gave DD and SIL their first night out since the birth. Before they left for the movie, we all had dinner together. As we sat, ate and talked, DH and I were talking to the kids about DH's good luck with the convenience store lottery tickets. He bought a ticket our first night down there (he got lost while he was out exploring and a very kind police officer gave him directions back to DD's home) and he won $500! THEN, our last full day there, we went to visit his Aunt's grave (this is the Aunt who left us some $$ when she passed last year). We stopped at a convenience store close to the cemetery to get waters, as it was quite warm walking though the cemetery. Well, he bought another scratch off ticket and this time won (hold your hats) $1000! We gave the $1000 to the kids and they were speechless. They had just gotten the bill from the hospital for Joaquin's birth. DD had to stay an extra day, bc J wasn't latching on and feeding well, so the bill was about $2000 more than they had expected. It felt really good to have won that and to be able to help them out!
Now, the driving part of the trip was both wonderful and horrible! I did the majority of the driving (wonderful) the first day and DH slept the majority of the way. 12 hours, beautiful weather, my music playing, and the thrill of "going"! Day 2 was the day of storms. So some white knuckle moments and DH slept until we got into Dallas (then he woke up stiff, sore, and CRABBY!) On the drive back, DH was awake the majority of first day and complaining about the route. We went back through Oklahoma. Oklahoma...lots of farmland, lots of cows, and we were on a smaller highway that ran through towns (I believe one part of the highway was the historic Route 66). We spent the night in Joplin, MO, which is jut across the border. Day 2 started at 9:00am and I did the driving and DH slept almost the entire 12 hours! Hurrah! I have to say, of the states I drove through (INdiana, Illinois, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri) Missouri is by far my favorite as far as scenery. The bedrock that lines the highway was just stunning and trees/land were beginning to green up. And driving through a bit of the Ozarks was beautiful. Mind you, staying on one highway, I am aware I wasn't seeing the best of any state, I am sure. I won't judge or misjudge a state based on the scenery from the road. I would like to drive through Arkansas again, as I couldn't see much due to the storms. The time spent traveling through Illinois was the most boring for me. Flat farmland; nothing growing yet. I do have to say, that the Texans do everything "bigger" it seems. Their highway system was astounding throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth region! Not only expansive and a testament to all highway designers and builders everywhere, but the little decorative touches (little stars and detail on the buttresses) were appreciated by both DH and I. When DD took us to downtown Fort Worth to visit her office building, she also took us to a park that has these massive "umbrella" structures, that look like very artistic, large umbrellas that are able to fold upwards on windy days. They are there to shade a group of tables and chairs for people to sit and enjoy their lunch, talk, read, whatever. There is also a little water pad for kids/people to play in during certain times of the day; along with a waterfall feature near the tables. Very pretty and relaxing. I can see why she often has her lunch here.
Meg- So sorry to hear about Benny! Sending hugs to you for this loss and sending prayers, strength, and courage to you for everything you are going through with DH. Sending love, my friend!
Re- Good luck with your tests and your days in the pool at your mom's place sound divine!
Pip- Love the Airstream! I think the curtains will add a nice pop of color! Love the pattern of those curtains!
Beth- Hope you are on the mend and back to full strength soon!
Heather- Your spring walk sounds wonderful, and yes, I am sure the aches/fatigue from the walk is our bodies way of telling us to ease into our routine! Bea looks quite proud of herself! Rightfully so! Those first steps are monumental! Did you know that the average baby tries and fails to walk more than 400 times?! I think that should be our goal for ourselves; if a baby can keep falling/failing and getting up and trying again, why should we give up after just a few attempts at anything?! Go baby Bea! You got this, girl!
Lisa- Your glass painting is just beautiful! I am in awe at the creativity and talent on this site!
Ginger- Wow! Your art journal! Really very beautiful! Here I am content to just remember to journal every day! LOL! I feel like a slacker. I DO like the idea of index card art! I may steal that idea. Going to look up the challenge and see if I can find more details. It might be a good time to kick off a new habit or artistic outlet.
Penny- Have fun with your family/grandkids!
To all who have been abused- My heart aches for you and I sit in admiration of your strength and courage! Sending thoughts of love, comfort, kindness, and invisible "capes" to wear over your invisible armor; because you truly are Superwomen in overcoming adversity!
To all who are suffering with illness, injury to your selves or your spouses-Sending thoughts of healing to you all!
To the babies- Love and cuddles to Olivia, Mia, Bea, and all!
To the newbies- Welcome! Great group of ladies! Jump in, tell us your goals, feel free to vent or search for answers among us!
April goals:
Getting back on track! Walk daily! Follow high protein diet! 1 pound of veg a day! Water!
Well, there are more of you I wanted to respond to, but have run out of time. Kids are here and ready to play. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
Good morning everyone! I know on occasion we have hit on the subject of cellulite. Well the good news is cellulite does disappear as your body fat percentage goes down. No weird or expensive gimmicks! Just hard work! I am witnessing it disappearing. Working towards complete removal of it! Anyone else with similar observations?

Just had delivery of my new glossy black electric kettle and the switch has difficulty staying down. I can get it to work, but it doesn't want to stay down. Grrrrrrrrrr! Hate having to go to the bother of returning things via the post office. DH is out doing a big shop. Have to see what he thinks when he gets back. Botheration!
Having a delivery of a new garden parasol tomorrow. The old one broke.
Just made Spinach and Feta Pie. It's in the oven.

PS - I've ordered Pokemon decorations for Max's birthday cake. DH is shopping for supplies to make the chocolate fudge cake. It's the same one as I made for all their christenings. Wonderful recipe.

Naiomi: The photo is beautiful. What a lovely retreat.
Penny: I think you have an excellent insight about kids being happier with device free unscheduled time. The TV always seems to be on at my grandchildren's house. :grumble:
Lisa: I use liquid stevia as sweetener in my coffee. It has not caused any negative outcomes. It also doesn't make coffee very sweet. It is less bitter. I've gotten used to it and like it just fine. Stevia doesn't have any of the negative impacts that artficial sweeteners can cause.
Sarah, ON: The pest control company told us they're sending a crew of men from a tribe whose members are small in stature. I can't wait to see them--and get our mess fixed.
Pip: Getting your summer bike out is so optimistic, especially after the winter we've had. WTG!!!
Yoga this morning and I hope it is not cancelled. I rely on it! Friday's yoga was cancelled because the gym had no electricity. I was so disappointed. :ohwell:

Someone here lost their fur baby, I'm so sorry
Your baby is up there hangin out with our rocky5 -
I think we're keeping the kettle. You have to hold it down a bit, but it works on the second go now. At first it was on the fifth! It looks ver nice.
Katla - I hate it when people have the TV on all the time. It just seems so rude. Our grandchildren are limited to half an hour before bath time. Max likes to use the laptop for his computer programming course (at 5 !) and Edie likes to play the BBC children's games with me on my tablet. They do have the radio on quite a bit though at breakfast when I'm not there, but they know I'm allergic to artificial noise and always turn it off for me!!! I am grateful. I do like peace and quiet. They are very good about not having phones etc around while we are eating. My son often turns his off nowdays and then can't find it. DDIL sometimes leaves hers behind on purpose when she goes to the beach etc.

Good morning! Up early and got 3000 steps in and enjoyed breakfast reading 2 pages of news from my peeps here.
Will respond later, but for now wanted to say I am watching the day 1 presentation on the "Sweet Freedom" free series about sugar. This one was with Damon Gameau of "That Sugar Film" and "That Sugar Book" fame which helped start me down the low sugar path.
It was excellent. Other presenters are Jonathan Landsman (I've not heard of him), Ty Bollinger on the Sugar/Cancer connection, and JJ Virgin
Each day's presentations are available for a 24 hour period. I'm going to keep watching as I have time today. There are presentations today through the April 17th.

Wanted to share some art journal pages I created as part of an online course I took through bravegirlsclub.com The course was called Body Restoration and was 6 weeks long. It was trans-formative. Printable materials were provided along with videos for discussion and for creating your journal. I took this course several years ago but always have this journal visible and accessible!

Meg... so sorry ... you can rest in knowing that you gave Benny the best care possible!
Karen in VA ... Loved Olivia's nesting video!
Pip ... the airstream looks wonderful!
After a very rocky weekend ... things are picking up. My husband is in Cleveland and my Dad is chomping on the bit to be released from rehab! Last I heard they were waiting on paperwork and then heading home. DH says my dad's lost a lot of weight, but was moving around well. That's a blessing!
Older son is back at his place and has a full compliment of staff until next weekend. Working on that.
Younger son had an academic meltdown and didn't tell us until this weekend ... of course, because I needed more to worry about this weekend. It was really naive of us all to think he could go to college without any kind of academic plan when he didn't regularly attend high school for the last 2-1/2 years. Anyways, after a flurry of activity ... which he surprising initiated on his own, academic services is helping him get approval for accommodations that will allow him to make up the work he missed this semester due to migraines (he opened up his grades to me this weekend ... I really don't know how he's going to make up so many 0's but he's insistent that if given the opportunity he can ... so here's hoping he lands well in the next 2-1/2 weeks) Today, some of his professors are responding positively .... so happy dance on one leg for him going on.
Thank you for the well wishes with the knee ...Off to the orthopedic doctor in a moment ....

✔9. Digital Detox. Track daily timeouts.
• Carbs. It started with 2 mini choc bites. 10 carbs each. Then my brain turned to quest bars... those are 22 carbs each - but they're high in fiber too. (Now I remember why I quit buying those.) Still not too bad.
• Fiber. Missed my big veggie salad again - I'm still out of salad fixings. I substituted steamed veggies again. And - had 2 quest bars. Those go in the kSafe today. Putting them in timeout until they learn to leave me alone. ;-)
• Exercise. Didn't finish it. Total steps 2968 and 24 active Fitbit minutes.
• Digital Detox. I did timeouts but I slept with Netflix again. And... it was good.
Today is Monday - official weigh-in day. I lost 3 lbs officially!
SW 291.6
CW 280.8
Last Monday: 283.8
Today I "do it now". I plan to get my exercise done before 6pm. And - get more done in the house. Room-by-room - scan and do. And... work on meal planning.
And... today makes 100 days streak of tracking here in MFP.

kelly congrats on double winnings and how generous to turn over to your kids!
Beth is this a freshman kind of thing??, my daughter had the same melt down but in the first semester- she is righting the ship and doing better. Her roommate is leaving school for community college--I think this had an impact on my kid!! Anyway, glad your son is waking up and advocating for himself--this is what they must learn to do Even though on their own sweet time. Hope the ortho appt. is productive
Phew, glad my 6 hour drive is over-gonna relax and start some laundry--so nice to be back home!

Cheri - love your body restoration journal! What a great idea.
I'm down south of you and it's a bit gloomy here too. Cloudy. Expecting rain this week. Those April showers to make things grow.

Sarah: So sorry to hear about the flooding; I hope the water recedes soon and you aren't left with a horrible mess.
Penny: Have a great time with your grandkids!
Lisa: I will have to remember your description of the weasel; it was priceless. The peacock was gorgeous!
Beth: Hope you get relief for your knee soon.
Meg: Sorry to hear about Benny Beagle; the loss of a beloved furry friend is hard.
Janet: Glad that MIA is off oxygen.
Pip: The airstream looks great!
Naiomi: What a beautiful photo!
FourLynne62, Abhamilton, Diane from Michigan: Nice to have you in the group.
Until recently, most of my walking has been on a treadmill. Lately I have been making an effort to go for longer walks outside with friends three or four times a week. It makes a real difference, but makes it hard to return to the treadmill. Yesterday, I went with a friend to a tulip festival, held every year in one of the small towns on Lake Geneva. It is about two weeks early, but the flowers were stunningly beautiful. To my delight there was a pottery fair right beside the gardens, two of my favorite things in one place.
My youngest son wrote yesterday to say that he is coming for a week-long visit over the Easter break. I am delighted. It will be nice having one of the kids in the house.

Happy International Safety Pin Day!
Good grief, it's after 2 o'clock! It's been a Monday for sure.
Mary - I have a friend who is still, many years later, dealing with the consequences of Lyme Disease that was not identified and treated early. A lot of people have no idea how devastating the disease can be.
Sarah - Glad to hear the rain has sopped but sorry your basement sump pump couldn't quite keep you dry. I'm sure that cleanup will burn tons of calories!
Janet - What a beautiful picture of your granddaughter. I love her date's formal do-rag!
Lisa - I love the stained-glass painting. The colors are soothing and lovely.
Beth - Regarding your son's "needle in a haystack" major... I don't think degrees matter as much as they used to. Even people with degrees in fields that are in high demand have a hard time finding good work - the hard truth is that we no longer have enough jobs for every person who wants work to have one. So if the only point of the degree is to demonstrate the ability to commit to something and stick to it, they may as well study something they care about. My nephew is working on completing an art history degree.
abhamilton - Think of it this way: You lost [insert ex-husband's weight here}. It may hurt now, but perhaps one day you'll be able to celebrate it as another step in your journey.
Pip - The Airstream looks great! I'm saving photos of the pull-out dining room table as inspiration for our Casita restoration!
I missed you all over the weekend, but I had a great time exploring the Wendish Museum and Heritage Center with my friends. We haven't done that kind of thing enough lately, so we're already talking about the next "girls' road trip."
Looks like I got the hummingbird feeder out right on time for the scouts to find it this year - I'm regularly seeing hummingbirds on it.
Welcome to the newcomers, and good vibes to everyone who's been struggling.

Hey de hi de ho!
So tired of this rainy weather! The nudest in me is crawling out of her skin.... Mr Blue Sky come visit me! OK I shall stop my whining... LOL.
I seem to be a bit out of control eating wise. I have more green beans then I care to eat, no protein except peanut butter and eggs. Also have a loaf of the most multi grain bread ever. So many of my meals are French toast. I suppose having a slice of the bread and an egg over easy, is no different. I add some vanilla, a dash of milk, and voila' its suddenly more decadent. The multi grain bread is so dense, I put the browned French toast in the oven to bake it more.
I am hoping that I receive some fruit and veggies from the food bank tomorrow. On the amazing side, my husband was emailing my Navy son this weekend, and my son told us that he will send us some funds. Husband I know is quite proud, and wouldn't come right out and say we are struggling, but son took it upon himself to send an email saying funds were coming. We have raised quite an empathetic son.
Hugs to everyone!

Hi, I'm back, FATTER than ever!!!! New beginnings. Who, on this board still remember me?? I live north of Chicago, am 57, have teenagers and horses. Speaking of horses, I blame the year I spent in my chair after my previous horse broke all my ribs on one side. No more excuses. I'm taking a new approach. I've only been doing it right for 5 days and I am not weighing myself until May 1st. Even if I'd lost 10 pounds my new number would depress me so I don't want to see it right away!! I'll include a fat picture of me from this weekend. Maybe in a few weeks I'll have a better one.
