@MNlittleFinn yeah! Until you are not on a rest day tomorrow ha ha thanks! Felt good this morning.
In the May thread wasn't someone talking about the Grandma's marathon on the June 17th? I was just reading this article at Kara Goucher will be there running the HM, but will be a featured speaker that weekend.

Newbie here. Just started back running in Dec after a brief 30 year hiatus. I have been running 3.5 miles three times a week after completing C25K, so I guess a reasonable goal for me is 50 miles for June. I just have to make it through the already unbearable NC heat and humidity.7
-
3 miles this morning, 2 of which were running. The 1 mile walking was spread out as warmup/breaks/cool down.
@cameronheel LOL at your brief 30 year hiatus. Sounds like you're doing great having completed C25K and are running 3 times a week.
@juliet3455 I like #9. I think I love exercise but hate training. I become miserable every time my running starts to resemble training. Oh well.4 -
@skippygirlsmom I'm running grandma's I'm totally stoked she's coming. She owns the CR for the half, so it's cool that she's coming back.2

@MNlittlefinn Duh I guess I didn't know the name of the race, I should have put two and two together huh? ! I just love her, I would be over the moon to hear her speak.1 -
Look what I got yesterday! This is really happening!

Just wondering here, who gives out a long sleeve tech shirt for a June race? LOL
Also, my bib has a tear-off portion at the bottom which is a coupon for a free adult beverage. Nice.7 -
I am in for 50 running KMs and at least 100 biking KMs . . . I know this is just a running challenge but I like to keep everything in one place6
-
@RespectTheKitty -So excited for you!!!! I predict that this will be the beginning of an uncontrollable habit for you! Good luck and have fun!
Also LOL at the long sleeve tech shirt. I think a lot of races started offering long sleeves as a draw to participants, but now that they all do it, it's just another shirt in the drawer. Personally, I would love to see races give out race singlets since that is usually what I end up wearing in a race. The only printed one I have is from my running group.
Oh, by the way, I just wanted to let everyone know....I will be running today!!!! (in case ya missed that )11 -

Close . . . I got a long sleeve tech shirt for Canandaigua Half on May 27. And I have several short sleeve tech shirts for races in September and October.1 -
Hi all!
Setting this month's goal as 140. Let's see if I actually hit a monthly target this time!
My next hm is on the 25th, the Bay of Fundy International Half Marathon (yes I needed my passport to register, lol) and I was scoping out the course/description on the website and I don't think I'll be PR'ing over my Tink HM time, lol. It says the elevation gain is around 800ft and includes this note:
Please note that the course is hilly and challenging
My first half was the Adirondack Half back in Sept, which my Garmin gave me around 300ft elevation gain for. Tink was only 36ft gain!
Sooo, yeah, not gonna lie, I'm a little bit intimidated by this race. It should be a beautiful course though, and looking at last year's results it has a pretty small field, so I will probably still place fairly decently. But yeah, the next couple weeks I think I'm going to be throwing in a bunch of hill training to get myself ready. Just as it's starting to get hotter too. Ugh.6 -
6/1 5miles 46:33min
I was struggling with whether to run or not given my hip pain... I ended up going. I feel like a cripple hobbling the first few minutes, but after about a mile I can ignore the pain and pick up the pace. I'm not sure my new sneakers are helping, but maybe I need to give it a few more runs.
On a more positive note, the clinic doctor put in a referral for physical therapy for a civilian dr. (Are PTs doctors?). So yeah for that! I should be able to get an appointment much sooner than going to the one on base. Hopefully the PT can sort out this pain and I can go back to running pain free again!4 -

I'm back in for June. Finished 11 miles over my 80 mile goal in May, so setting my June goal for 95 miles. In looking at my training schedule, that will be a stretch, but I want to push myself a little more this month.
Good luck everyone with your goals and races this month!5 -
I'm in for 100 KM this month, let's do this!2

Hello fellow runners!

A great start to the month where I ran and lifted heavy on the same day and still haven't been floored.
June Running Challenge
Goal: 100 km (4 time/week)
Ran: 6.6/100 km
1/6/17 Run 6.6 km+ walk 5 km + Weightlifting3 -
@respectthekitty woohoo you are so ready! I looked at the shirt and thought the same thing about the long sleeves. On our local running FB page a race director asked what people wanted 99% said singlets in place of a tee or long sleeve tech shirt.1

Day one of the month and off to a good start:
June Goal: 50mi

Others enter events for the additional Training Motivation from a hard date on a calendar.
Then there's some Lady in Australia who runs multiple HM distances in training just for the fun of it. ( she now has more HM distance fun run's than I have HM's ).
Mothers who are amazing and have amazing talented daughters. etc, etc.
We all fit into this group. No question is out of Bounds or Foolish.

In for 153.2 miles in June from a Treadmill Hater.3 -
@stoshew71 when Josh runs by it's usually only a siting and brief ha ha
@runtimer thanks for the link, we are running a 5K that night with Fleet Feet. They are getting all their stores to have a run, like 75 stores.0 -

@WhatMeRunning maybe I'll add that to my lineup for next year and relive that nightmare..i mean quality bonding time with my aunt. She used to live right by the plaza, now she lives in Lee's Summit. I was going to do the Stars and Stripes 5k in Lee's Summit to visit her, but decided to do the one in Wichita instead2

Hi, I'm new. Just started four days ago. The first two days I walked 4 miles and yesterday I did 5. I've cut an average of 2 minutes per mile each day.
Right now I'm walking but by the end of June, I want that to be running.
Goals:
1. 150 miles for the month
2. Running for at least half each workout by the end of the month (so 2.5 miles running/2.5 walking)
3. Lose 8 pounds/one clothing size
I go out in the evening so I'll update w/today's results later tonight.12 -
6/1 = Gym day; 3 miles on the treadmill and 40 minutes of strength training
6/2 =
6/3 =
What is it about running on the treadmill that makes my knees hurt? They don't bother me running on trails or the road. You would think that it would be the opposite...
(June miles to date) 3/150 (June goal miles)1 -

Welcome, @onlymuttix ! If you're not yet a runner, be sure to train smart to become one. At first, that means no more than 3 running days a week, and non-consecutive days. C25K is a popular program to take you from walking to running a 5K; I used a similar program to turn myself into a runner in 2011.
The key to becoming able to run farther and faster is, most days you don't do anything close to what you *can* do. You don't run as far as you can, you don't run as fast as you can. You increase distance very gradually, and work very hard to run slow enough that your training can progress. Then you let your inner speed demon out to play on race day.
Don't be intimidated by those of us who run 6 days a week for what seems like crazy long miles to a beginner. We all had to start from where you are, build very gradually, and learn to slow down in order to run farther.6 -
Rest day/closing in on taper madness for the day: checking the weather and realizing that in 2 days, I'll start seeing race day on the long range forecast on weather.com..... Accuweather has had it for a while, and NOAA won't have it for another few days, I think they only go out 10 days.... LOL2
