Margaret Thanks for your thoughts about The Obesity Code.. It's on my reading list.
Sounds like the same advice my doc gave me. He says it's the insulin causing the problem. He recommends I limit carbs to 75g daily. I asked how about limiting to 50g? He said less is better - but harder for most people. He also told me not to eat more than 25g per meal. And - get 30g of fiber daily - with plenty of fluids. (Start slowly increasing fiber until your body adjusts to processing more fiber.) He suggested I add Metamucil twice a day for added fiber. I try getting fiber from other sources - but I'll use Metamucil to supplement when I remember.
This was my gastro doc. My last colonoscopy wasn't clear - because there was a sticky residue in my colon so he couldn't get a clean field to inspect. I have to do it again in a year. He suspects I'm not getting enough fiber and fluids. I think I get plenty of fluids - but I needed more fiber.
I don't graze. And I do fairly well during the day. I've had problems with binge eating. Late night, overwhelming urge to get out of bed and eat anything I can get my hands on. Mostly carbs. Mostly sweets.
I'm reading Brain Over Binge. Interesting idea about the cause of binging: the urge. (Duh!) But she goes more into why we have the urge and dealing with it. She has a podcast too.
In 2014 - I dropped 60 pounds (302 - 242). I started by counting calories - then went to 50g carbs daily. And I walked. I used a Fitbit and built up to 4-5 miles daily. I felt so good. I walked my first 5k. I got so inspired - I decided I was going to do more 5ks. I started training.., over-enthusiastically. Torn meniscus. Scope surgery. Downward spiral. Took the wind out of my sails - and I've been fighting my way back.
Onward.

Mary from MN: Have a great week. :flowerforyou:
Meg: You are not forgotten. Post as often as you can because we miss your comments.
Becca: Thanks for the hugs. Back atcha! (((HUGS)))
We're having a misty day so far. It isn't the sort of day that I want to walk the dog and I'm feeling a bit low on energy. I guess having the cast put on my broken finger took more out of me than I expected. Tiny break, tiny cast, minimal discomfort, NO pain--so why am I tired?

"Salt, Sugar, Fat" by Michael Moss is a great book to read for anyone having trouble with binging and weight loss.4

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! The company that sent the replacement tea towels have sent the SAME wrong ones AGAIN! So now I have 6 tea towels and only 2 are ones I ordered. I have emailed them again and may get another 3! 9 for the price of 3!!! How can people misread things so badly?
Carol - Oouuufff! That is some price for a few injections!
Had a good shopping trip. Bought local strawberries (eaten ) and three bunches of local asparagus (to be cooked tomorrow with sea bass and some to have cold for the next day for lunch) I am bursting with good veg. All very reasonably priced.
My elder son who is unemployed, and suffers often from severe anxiety and depression, has just failed a second interview for a job he was very hopeful for. He has another interview next week. He has had his iphone cut off. He''s on a temporary phone. I did pay a few months ago for his Internet to be reconnected. Can't help but worry. He is writing some articles for Airsoft magazines, but that's pocket money. His two rescued greyhounds are keeping him going.
Wish I could wave a magic wand for him.

Did an hour on the bosu today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a workout on the step. Then we have a Newcomer general meeting.
A guy who used to work for Vince is coming here later today. He's coming from PA to FL so he'll stop here. Right now I'm making him butterscotch spice cookies since I know the butterscotch chips won't melt in the FL sun. I also made an apple pie. Not from scratch -- Mrs. Smith's. Usually I don't do this, but I got it at such a good price and I really would like the room in my freezer.
katla - I'm glad you can type better
Alison - good girl! Like someone said "a tiger can't change his stripes"
Remember how we were talking about preferring our food to prepackaged? Well, because it was on a really good sale, I got one of the Mrs. Smith Apple Pies for Vince. I baked it this morning and decided I'd try some. Really, I didn't think it was all that great. I would much have preferred to have had one that I made. Talk about how our tastebuds change!
Jess just told me that her surgery is scheduled for the 12th. It seems to make the most sense for me to go from her place to my cousin in VA's place. This is going to be a real true test diet-wise. I'll be gone for something like 20 days. Usually, when we go away it's for a week or so and I many times take my own food so I can control it. But I don't think I'll be able to this time. Any hints?
dana - we have a pergola over the equipment pad for the pool. How can I explain it? There are wooden boards on the front (like you see on the top only this one is not only on the top but also in front so you don't see the equipment). Hung up on there I have a butterfly, angelfish, starfish, seaturtle and now I'll have the dragonfly there. Dave was one real cruel guy. So glad you got rid of him!
Becca - happy birthday
Meg - we could never forget you. Come in when you can
Leigh - I didn't realize that most homes in France don't have a/c. I know most in Switzerland don't. But I didn't realize that most in France don't.
Well, Vince's friend should be here soon so I'll post this now.

Making a fresh start, this month. Eat healthier. More fruits and vegetables. Plan and cook my own meals. Exercise daily. Slowly but surely get rid of excess baggage. Save, save, save.10

Barbie I read that book too. I thought it made a good case for trying to limit processed foods. The author of the Obesity Code also mentioned that book. Eating on the Wild Side also makes the argument how much of our food supply is manipulated to our taste rather than our health. I do believe knowledge is power. Learning more about food and how it comes to me helps me make better choices for my health.
Ginger the fiber helps to mitigate the insulin reaction that is why he is recommending the extra fiber. In the Obesity Code he recommended vinegar for the same reason. I know oil and vinegar would be better for me on my salads.
Mary were you the one who talked about adding apple cider vinegar to my ginger drink to help with inflammation.

Becca So happy to hear that your hubby is out of surgery and doing well. Can identify with the caretaker role and it can be demanding. Hoping he will heal up quickly!
Just finished 1 1/2 hours weeding. Seems like the weeds are winning this year but I'm determined in the the fight.
Margaret Interesting about the insulin. As I just was diagnosed with diabetes last week, or was it week before? Time flies! Anyhow, have been eating the diabetic diet plan of course and testing before and after meals. With my blood sugar in the correct range, my hunger is gone! I don't even need the snacks I plan for... Amazes me. Lost 5 lbs last week. Nothing since Saturday and have worked hard but it will come off as I add more exercise.
Ginger in Texas Oh the torn meniscus. Did that about 5 years ago walking my crazy alaskan malamute. The doctor did surgery and couldn't repair it, but he drilled holes in the bone somewhere as it can cause the meniscus to regrow! Then I went for cold laser therapy too and have never had another problem with it. It's frustrating when you cannot walk though, isn't it?!
Allie Your life will get better and you will feel peaceful and happy again. Keep hanging in there and recognizing the attempts to control you for what they are. Been there. He's playing the victim now- "poor me- no friends etc." He made his choices and needs to be held accountable for them.
Our spring is sure being cool but the flowers seem happy with the occasional sunshine. Pic of my hanging baskets attached. Is there anything cheerier than bright flowers?!! Have a great Tuesday everyone.

Dear friend, just imagine what chaos is going on in your body right now!!! The platelet's all heading toward your finger in a constant state of hemoglobin traffic jams! Much arguing is going on at who's responsible for what, so the big REST button has been pushed! Get the picture? It's a city underneath your skin, and any broken bones can make you tired. Listen to what your body is telling ya! Hugs!

Margaret- not that I remember. I do use apple cider vinegar for gut health and to keep sugar spikes low.
Katla - thanks! DGS's Baseball games, Road trip baseball tournament and exercise are going to keep me really busy but i'll be checking here as much as possible during the downtime.

Lanette Awesome job at the gym!
Ginger Thank you for sharing your story
NYKaren I had a tough day too so thanks for the quote. Hope tomorrow is better for you
Beth So sorry to hear about your husband
Barbiecat I'm going to get that book. That has me written all over it! Except the binging.
So today was good until 3 when I got a stressful text at work but when I think about it, no one died, the world isn't crumbling; I made it bigger. So now I am going to chill and enjoy my evening! Barbiecat's quote the 90 - 10% rule was perfect timing!
Did Leslie S this morning. Had my favorite salad for lunch:- Pineapple
- Cucumber
- Slivered almonds
- Dried cranberries
- Fresh cherries
- Pumpkin seeds
- Feta
Sweet potato veggie burgers and coleslaw for supper.

I didn't want to just disappear and have people wondering why I'm not here but I'm finding myself stretched for time to keep up. I've been juried into a big craft fair in November and panic is setting in. So wishing you all well in your journeys and perhaps we'll connect again in the future.8

A while back, like 20 pages ago, someone was talking about incessant itching. Well, I was on my neurologist's FB page and noticed this article. I thought if the itching was still a problem it could be if some help.
Becca your Annabelle is so cute!
I love all the pictures y'all share!
I didn't feel like a traditional dinner so I had a plate of raw veggies, hummus, boiled eggs and cracker. It tasted so good and satisfying just to snack.
Of course DH went to Burger King. He don't do vegetables.
I'm grateful to be feeling well again. Just to get out of the house and drive downtown!
Life is wonderful!
