Well today was my official weigh in and I was so frustrated I almost cried. Two days ago after not exercising I had lost 1 pound 8 ounces. Today after excersing the last couple days trying to tone up some, I had gained the weight back again. It wasn't even that strenous excercising. According to my HRM I only burned 200 calories. I know it's not supposed to be about the number on the scale but this is just so frustrating. I was so mad I took my scale and put it in my son's room and told him to hide it from me. I'm not weighing myself again until the end of February. :noway: I know the weight is coming off because I'm down another size in a certain style of jeans I buy at WalMart but it would be nice to see the numbers on the scale go down and stay down. I'm going to keep exercising because I really need to tone up but it's still just so stupid frustrating not to see the numbers go down.
Now that I've ranted I hope everyone else is doing well and having a good day. :flowerforyou:

:flowerforyou: Don't get too down. It took me a while after I got stuck to get that number going down again but it is happening, slowly but happening. When I started walking more and watching what I'm eating closer it started to creep in the right direction. :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: And oh yea drink your water and fluids. That helps too.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Just keep going. Its worth it in the long run.:drinker:0

Hi all you Fabulous Fifty Ladies
Hope everyone is having a great day. I am feeling so much better than I was. It is no fun feeling under the weather. The amazing thing is in the past when I would get sick  I would get really sick and need to see a doctor and get some medication. This time (touch wood) it was so different. I am sure the difference has been my new lifestyle changes. My body is happier and I couldn't be more pleased:happy:
This is my first day back fully on my exercise routine and it felt great. I worked out on my treadmill for 65 minutes, my stationary bike for 30 minutes, weight trained for over 20 minutes and did some jumping rope and dancing around for over another 10 minutes. Tomorrow I hope to get out on my snowshoes for a good workout. I really have missed them. Gotta get that darn scale moving again. I didn't gain anything while I was sick but I didn't lose either.
Remember ladies a little exercise goes a long way
Cheers and happy thoughts to all:drinker:0 -
Wow! 95+ minutes of cardio plus weights - in one session! That is fantastic. Apparently you ARE feeling better!
Unless I'm outside/playing, I get so bored exercising - you must have some kind of trick for sticking it out for such an extended period of time... ??
And I'm learning first hand what happens when I DONT push myself... the scale doesn't push itself, either.
Maybe I need to be hypnotized  like those people who are made to do crazy things onstage - only I would do jacks and lunges! :laugh:0 -

Thanks for the support...I had a good chuckle over your comment on being hypnotized:laugh:
We Fabulous Fifty Ladies need to stick together and keep each other motivated:flowerforyou:
I have no trick about sticking to the exercising other than turning on the television and channel surfing to pass the time. When the commercials are on I crank up the speed and jog as long as I can to get my heart rate up. No secrets or tricks just a deep desire to get healthy:bigsmile:  The darn scale that has been not moving too quickly downwards is motivating me to stick to it and work even harder. Although I am down another pound which is good because I hadn't lost anything in the last two weeks.
I got out on my snowshoes yesterday for an hour. It was wonderful even if it was hard going breaking trail in the fresh new foot of snow we got. Today I did my treadmill (65 minutes), my stationary bike (35 minutes), Biggest Loser Boot Camp (30 minutes) and some stretching. So much exercise to do and so little time:bigsmile:
Hope everyone is doing well. Keep trying ladies. Remember WE ARE WORTH IT
Cheers to all:drinker: :drinker:0 -
Hi Betty maybe the gain was from muscle , it weighs more than fat...congrats on the jeans ...hang in there...

Ladies, I don't know how you do it. I just can't seem to get the right mindset to exercise AND watch my calories. That being said, I did try out the Leslie Sansone Fast Walk dvd. I think I put in 20 minutes. I got 12 more minutes of exercise dacning to Bruce Springsteen during the SuperBowl's half-time show. At least I didnt' snack during the game. I'm heading up to bed now quickly before I get tempted to eat.
Have a good week everyone.

Thanks for the encouragement ladies. I tried on a pair of jeans I have in my closet that says they're a size 14 but I think they're miss labeled. I bought them from Wal Mart clearance on line. There's no way they could be a size 14 unless they're a 14 juniors because I wear a size 10 or 12 depending on the syle of jeans. These particular jeans fit more like a size 10 regular (no eased fit). Anyway, in the past I couldn't even get them up over my hips. Now not only can I get them over my hips but I can actually get them fastened. They're too tight though so back in the closet they go for a little while longer.
I'm not going to weigh again until February 27. My son hid my scale for me so I won't be tempted to weigh before then. I should get my Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies dvd this week then I bet I get past this plateau.
I hope everyone had a good weekend. Hang in there and keep going. Welcome Sumer_13. Glad to have you join us. :flowerforyou:

Hi all, I have to say I am at a terrible slump. I know this is a terrible time for me. I believe I get winter depression. I was suppose to workout today but, my husband found other things for us to do.
I hope I can get back on track with my exercise soon.
I am pretty good with my calorie intake. I did go over a little yesterday for the superbowl.
Glad to see so many ladies joining this thread.
Keep up the great work.

Happy February Ladies!!!
...well, yesterday was the day I was going to weigh and measure myself, but I got sidetracked, then was going to do it today and again got sidetracked...and, quite frankly, I'm not looking forward to doing either as I'm certain that my closet is shrinking my clothes :noway: ...I'm not ready to give up, but feel that if I see a gain in either pounds or inches, I will....
....it has to be the age thing, I walked 85 miles last month....plus doing weights and abs a minimum of 3 days/week....do I need to change things up a bit???? any suggestions would be most welcome....
...hang in there Kathy & Zaza....:flowerforyou:
...Betty, you can count your "closet find" as a non-scale victory...:drinker:
...maybe I just need to spend more time on this thread so I can learn y'alls secrets....:drinker:
...will check back in tomorrow....:flowerforyou:

Thank you "doglvr_75" for inviting me to join your thread of 50+Women. I am 58, live in Sunny Florida and love it! Orginally from Indiana.
I, too, get so frustrated at times. I'm going to keep pushing play though because the older I get, the more I gain around the middle! It's the hips and thighs I have the most trouble with.
Looking forward to meeting some very intereting people and I do enjoy all the message threads.....0 -
You're most welcome Floridagranny...:flowerforyou:
...hope you don't mind me asking, but is that you in the picture with the little cutie???? If it is, you look amazing....actually, we're all a pretty good looking bunch of mature ladies...:drinker:
vee0 -
Yep, that's me! But what you can't see are those thighs!!!
That's my grand daughter........ I have secretly become very attached to her!0 -

Congratulations to the new mothers-in-law to be! Hope you reach your goals before the big day.
I'm feeling and looking my age. Still can't get myself turned around. I lost my pre-Thanksgiving momentum and haven't gotten it back.
Great work ladies on all your exercise and eating discipline. Obviously it can be done.
Have a great day all.

ZAZA, yesterday I was like that....... needed to pick myself back up! Went to the closest and tried on a few clothes plus a bathing suit I want to wear on vacation the end of this month. Got me right back on track! Plus, I received a few encouraging emails from new friends here on this site!
You can do it! Keep pushing play............. :glasses:0 -
A bathing suit - wow you are brave! But there's a great motivator: VACATION!! (oh, and the bathing suit)
Also the weddings are certainly motivators - congrats everyone!
I am also getting married this October... both S2B and myself are trying to get healthy for the big day. At the rate we're going - it will take 10 months to lose these 13 lbs!! But the thought of looking like a sausage stuffed into a satin and pearl casing gives me the horrors
He bought me an MP3 player and (once I figure out how to use it) will make it my 'exercise buddy' for those days where nothing helps. We'll see how it goes... this board has also been such a great source of inspiration and motivation. Thanks everyone!
Have a great day!0 -
Good morning ladies!!!
...well, I did it...got the scale & tape measure out, and....scale says I gained 3 pounds, :grumble: but, on the bright side , I lost 5.5 inches....haven't quite figured out what the deal is yet, but I'll keep plugging along ..... think I'll be checking with my friend, google, today :glasses: to try and figure out the mystery of muscle vs fat....I also think I'll up my reps with the weights & crunches....chug some water :drinker: , and hit the dreadmill.....
....have a great day everyone!!!!
:flowerforyou:

...I'm back....did some research :glasses: and found out the following....while a pound is a pound whether fat or muscle, fat takes up 4 times more space than muscle...and ideal body fat % for females is 15 - 25%....
...anyway, just an fyi for y'all....
:flowerforyou:

...good evening...just making myself accountable today...not being a "thread hog" :noway:
...anyway walked 5.37 miles...(80 minutes)...and did 30 minutes of strength training...weights & crunches....took 110 minutes to burn 502 cals.....:grumble:
...tomorrow I'll just walk for 90 minutes and will probably burn more than 500....
..there...I put it in "writing" and hopefully I'll stick to it.....
Hope everyone had a good day....

you go girl!!!!! :flowerforyou:
i'm so NOT competitive but i'm thinking if you are burning all those calories, i can at least wheedle away 350... and actually went to the gym again today!! 3 days in a row - woo hoo!!
there's a new thread with a fantastic picture that shows the difference in size between 5 lbs. of fat and 5 lbs. of muscle. a well-known fact, but SEEING it was a revelation for me....and since the scale has NOT budged this week... it helped me find a new perspective on this whole endeavor: Inches are the New Pounds. Let's see how this works!
not sure how to put a link here but if anyone cares to view the post:

Hi ladies,
I FINALLY got to the gym today. It felt really good. I burned 525 calories. I hope to go again tomorrow.
I can't believe how hard it was for me to get going again. Boy, thank God for this site. I don't think I would ever have started again with out it.
Hope you all have a great week-end.

IHi everybody! I'm so glad to find other people my age on this site. This was my second day and i did alot better today that yesterday! Yesterday at work I was starving, even after eating snacks it was awful! Someone on here said it was because of the sugar I was eating, it was making me hungry. So I didn't eat the canned pineapple chunks with cottage cheese today , I ate an apple and it seemed to work! I never really noticed how long it takes to burn just a few calories! I never thought about it before, but when I recorded my walk and found out how little calories i burned I was amazed! Time to step up the activity!!0

I looked at your profile and it says you're an 18 year old female. I'm easily confused. Anyway welcome. I know what you mean about the calories. I'll be doing some type of exercise and look at my hrm watch and think "that's all I've burned so far!". Good luck to you.

Thanks Betty,
I glad I'm back. It was a long hard road. I just knew if I wanted to eat I would have to step up my exercise.
