@MNLittleFinn I think your previously mentioned trail excursion will put you ahead of me. I'm doubling down tomorrow, resting Friday, and doing a total of 24-26 this weekend. You can kick my butt easily!1

So, this afternoon I got up from my desk at work and developed a sharp pain in the outside of my hip. It has not gone away. From my run this morning? It didn't hurt at the time..... damn it! Any advise from running hip injury people? Will I live?0

I'm just being kind of silly. I remember when I would see your mileage and always be in awe.... Can't believe I've gotten to the point where I'll be running similar mileage to you and the other big dogs.4 -
Oh no @amymoreorless! I am no expert but does it feel like a muscle issue or more in the bone/joint? If it is muscle maybe try some gentle stretching or foam rolling and see if that helps?
@_nikkiwolf_ - that boar looks mean! I know they have something similar in Arizona called a javelina that can be pretty bold and scary (the babies are adorable though).

I'm overly ambitious is all. I need to get through October, then my mileage is going to go WAY down for a couple months.0 -
After resting Monday, I did 3.0 easy run on Tuesday and a fun barefoot beach run of 1.5 miles after work today. At 91 and probably 97% humidity, that one should count extra! 16.77 of 45 so far.7
-
Elevation profile for Saturday's 29 mile run. Should be in the neighborhood of 4,500 feet of elevation or so

Well... can I still hang out with you awesome people if I am back to not being a runner? And probably will maintain benched status for a while.
PT guy at least got a kick out of me.... "how long has this been an issue?" "A while?" "K... one month... two?" "Ummm .... at least 5??" *pt guy starts laughing* "K... no judgement, I promise, just information gathering.... did you at least get to run your half marathon??" Yeah... I waited to go to doc till after, because I didn't want to run it against medical advice, so I waited to seek medical advice" *pt spits his water out laughing* "you might be a runner if.... it's ok, I caused myself some issues a while back with similar logic"
But... despite his empathy, I got put on a much less specific, but more inclusive "if it hurts, don't do it" type edict (this unfortunately definitely includes running). Both that, and the (not) spiffy new accessory below are in place at least pending MRI results. But, I'm guessing longer.
Just when I thought I was on track for a monthly mileage goal....
On strength training- I am possibly the opposite. I run (ran?) because I like food too much to handle weight without running. And sometimes because due to anxiety/attitude makes lifting a bit safer if I burn some of it off first. I LOVE lifting. I try and make room for both. I still was lifting while training for the half this spring, just not quite as often, not as lengthy of sessions, and being ok with not increasing weight as much. Last 2 months have been nearly nothing but lifting- due to trying to comply with instructions in hopes it would prevent picture above.5 -
@hanlonsk I'm sorry about thr injury, but that PT Srory is one of thr best things I have ever heard.0

For the Ultra Runners in the group some words of wisdom from one of my friends on the pros and cons of having Pacers and Crew. https://thwisp.wordpress.com/2017/08/09/choosing-a-pacer-and-crew-also-known-as-your-100-mile-caregivers/2
-
@hanlonsk - love your PT story and am hoping the fashionable 'boot' wrap is only temporary and that the MRI shows nothing important! Hang in there and you can definitely hang out with us for as long as it takes! Just ask @Elise4270 - she hung out with us all through her hip surgery and recovery and we still let her participate now3
-
Oh no @hanlonsk ! I'm glad you are being smart and listening to your PT though (and that he's chill af lol)
@MNLittleFinn you say your mileage will go down post October now.... haha!
@shanaber thanks for the article, will read when my brain is able to form cogent thoughts again
I did a lot of child chasing, lawn mowing and trail running today. I have an obscene amount of calories I still need to eat before close of business as a result and that sounds awful right now honestly

I'm new to the forum and to running (started in March this year at the age of 50). I've done a few parkruns (5k) and x2 10k's both a mix of run/walk. My aim is to try and get to run 5k without walking or at least not as much.
For the August challenge I'm going to aim for a low 50km (31miles). I'm using the c210k app.
6 Aug 3.15 km (1.95m)
9 Aug 3.71 km (2.30m)9
