Was planning on taking today off, but it was 64 degree outside and the legs felt fine so I couldn't pass on it. Since my marathon last year I've only done 6+ miles a handful of times before shutting down with some minor strains last December. Actually felt pretty strong on this run and had to keep dialing it back to stay in my lower HR training zones.6 -
My day started at 3:30a.m. and we were on the river fishing by5:30. I'm sorry to report that the 5 sun perch and the catfish that I caught did not win us the *bass* tournament. Lol!
I made it to the track this evening, promising myself I'd go easy. A long day. 85 degrees. Those 6 miles were tough! BUT! I managed to do them in 1:11.!!! Previous fastest for 6 miles was 1:14! Don't know how this happened.
So 16 miles total for August so far!10 -
Wk 7.31.17 - 8.6.17
M - 8.6 - Had to finish with a prime number for July. 241 miles total.
T - 9.2 m. - Wasn't motivated, didn't want to run. Did it anyhow.
W - 9.9 m.
T -
F - 10 m.
S - 20 m. !!!

Total - # miles. Goal is 60 miles this week.

@wandavaughn great job on the 6 miles
@respectthekitty we all have those days, you'll get it tomorrow0 -
I would like to crash the party! I have been missing running so maybe I can live vicariously through yall for a while. I am down to walking ( or maybe waddling, but I refuse to believe that) for the time being due to pregnancy.
I set a goal of walking 20 miles in august.
8/5 - 1.89 miles13 -

@4legsRbetterthan2 - I have to wonder if your screen name is a subtle reference to being pregnant, or perhaps a George Orwell reference.
Vicarious life spectators are welcome here. Soon enough, you'll be in training for the stroller division of races. I've seen some pretty determined new parents running with strollers, and often wonder if there will be pictures for the new baby to roll his/her eyes at in 15 or 16 years.2 -

RACE REPORT
So we got there 90 minutes early by mistake. Well not really. The directions looked confusing on the web, and the address they listed was for the middle of nowhere, so we left early to give time to find the place. The first problem we hit was a classic car show in town so the roads I was expecting to use were all closed and there were cars parked everywhere making driving a bit more treacherous than it needed to be. Trusty old Garmin Windshield mounted GPS got us through it and we made it to the race way early.
We had registered late so I was figuring we would not get a shirt, but when we arrived they had shirts for us AND were giving out shirts to people who were just registering. So that was cool. The shirt is bright orange, so probably never wear it.
Eventually, we gather at the start line and they handed out glow necklaces for everyone to wear since we are starting AFTER sunset. They also lit parts of the course with Tiki torches so that was cool. Although it did make passing people a bit more treacherous and exciting.
I had a very poor start, was just too crowded. In fact, I spent the entire 5k passing people, which shows how far back I started. There was no chip time, just gun time, so that really hurt my chances to place. I ended up 5th in my age group, but I do not know by how much yet. Once they post the times I will know more. For now I am telling myself 3rd place was in reach had they done chip time, or had I started further up in the pack.
I ended up averaging an 8:01 pace which is not really representative of how hard I ran because much of the second mile my pace was under seven as I was trying to make up time on a long straight gradual downhill stretch. It was not enough to beat my time from the 5k this morning though. Of course, Howl at the Moon 5k had four times the number of hills (well four times the elevation at least) AND my watch read 3.14 miles vs the 3.01 miles of the 5k this morning. RunKeeper is calling my 25:11 of this evening's race a 5K PR, because it is not counting the 3.01 mile 5k I ran this AM as a 5K race. I decided I agree with it and will hold 25:11 as a PR until I beat it which I am sure I can.
I will withhold judgment on if I could have placed with a better start until I see the official results, but I do know I could have shaved at least a minute if not two off that time had I started better. It was just way too crowded for the start lane that we had.
What is cool is even a couple months ago I thought I might be peaking as a runner and was a little depressed by it. Yet I hit multiple PRs this summer, so perhaps there is a bit more speed I can get before age catches up to me. Time will tell I guess.

@RespectTheKitty - you might want to check this out. There are physiological reasons why you feel exhausted running during your TOM. Hang in there - your next run will likely feel better!!

@PastorVincent - great job after the 5k this morning! Next time I guess you will just need to line up near the front, especially when you are there early. Let everyone else try to pass you instead1

@MobyCarp - the name predates the kiddo. Started with my real name but decided I wanted something more anonymous. I was running on a trail that I frequently ride my horse on and had my dogs with me. Of coarse the dogs were running in circles around me and I was thinking to myself that I was probably "running" the same pace as my horse walks the trail, and it just became my new name.5

August Goal: Not die while ramping up running mileage and technicality during 100K training
Nominal mileage goal: 250 miles
Today's notes: today's run was a weird one for me. It wasn't thr distance, 5 miles, or anything like that. It was how I felt. The whole run i felt tired and sluggish. Then, when I finished and checked my stats, I was amazed. Average pace was 9:02 and average HR was 149. I was not expecting that! I was sure that I was going to end up with 11min miles and a HR in the 160s.....
.....thus might have something to do with my training load this week, it was pretty heavy and I was worn out from it, but apparently my body is adapting...
Have a Runderful day everyone!
