August 2017 Running Challenge

So because of this thread and the whole measurements spreadsheet this morning I had to confront the scale, which I've been avoiding.
It wasn't good. But then I've been eating as if I've been active without doing the active thing.
So I'm back to trying to take control AND I made myself go for a run (minimalist shoes, c25k week 2).
So thank you all.7 -

30 miles is incredible!1 -
30 miles is incredible!
lots of walking/hiking involved to be sure. It's the first half, minus about a mile and a half, of my October race. it's going to be a beast.... plan/hope is to be done in 8 hours5 -
My run today was absolutely brilliant!
It's finally cooled down - cloudy and 22°C/~70°F. No idea how long the weather will stay like this, so I decided to combine my planned long run with a bit of midweek mountain fun and run 20km in the mountains after work.
I took a nice and easy route without any too steep climbs. After about 6km, the way led me to a forest road where no cars go, and shortly after a saw a wild boar! Pretty cool, I was just disappointed that it ran away before I could take a photo. A few km later I saw another one, and that time I managed a (somewhat blurry) snapshot.
Well, after about 12km I turned a corner and saw a large pack of them, around 20! Alright then... It's not that I'm scared of boar in general (as long as they don't have young ones around to protect), but it's the first time I've seen more than one at a time. At that point I decided that turning back the way I came might be a wiser choice.
Going back the exact same way would have turned my planned 20km run into 24km. Since I'm still gradually building back distance, I wanted to avoid that, so I used a small trail to cut through the forest from one part of the serpentine road to anotherone further down. That turned 5km gentle slope into 1.4km which were a bit more "technical" - as in, the first 400m were really steep, with a loose surface where I slipped and skidded more than I walked. I was super slow (15min/km - for comparison the km before on the road was 6:30min and the next trail km was 7:30min), but since I ended up with 20.3km back at the car, it was exactly the right shortcut.
Oh, and I've finally managed to do one of those Relive videos
And this is the boar I managed to photograph:

@shanaber Nope, I'll take you up on that challenge. My ex called me a pirates dream because of the "sunken chest!" One more reason he's the ex.

You got this!!!0 -
@_nikkiwolf_ @PastorVincent I am jealous of your running locations. I miss living in Colorado. Or even San Diego. I did see some coyotes in a field the other day. We have them roaming around along with bobcats. Someone saw one on my running trail a week or so ago, but I haven't found anything but a bunnyzilla. :-)

Oh do not be, that is just the about a mile trail out to the road, and it has a wicked up hill. Most people around here skip it

Welcome to all new challenge members!
Also, welcome to all the newly qualified seamstresses we seem to have acquired with their slick tape-measuring skills.
@_nikkiwolf_ Your Relive video is much better than the one that gets generated for me. If I took photos on my early morning runs, the video would just pause while it shows a very dark and grainy image that resembles something taken from a CCTV camera. I should probably do that just for kicks and giggles.
Another day, another run...this time, during the midday sun. Gotta say this, to all of you guys that run in the daytime, you're all awesome, because this run was supposed to be easy but keeping my heart rate down was next to impossible in the heat. Average: 149 bpm. Not good.

It is so hard for me right now not to lace 'em up and go for a run. But I promised myself that I would take a full week to rest my calf, so I'm just enjoying reading about everyone else's running exploits and counting down the hours until I can get out there.4

Been out all day at StoryLand. My family and I rlenjoyed it greatly. No strength or kr30dc but ill5get my run in tomorrow. Suppose to be short intervals.2

8/1: 7 miles of Track Tuesday

8/3: 6.3 miles group run
8/4: Rest day
8/5: 6 miles
8/6: 16 miles
8/7: 6 miles group run + lift/strength
8/8: 7 miles Track Tuesday
8/9: 5 miles + lift/strength
68.3 miles of 250 goal miles
I set my alarm for 5:30 today, but instead I slept in until 6:15 and did my running laundry before work (it was too stinky to put on). I did my lifting/strength workout in the evening after work, followed by a 5 mile jaunt through the neighborhoods around my gym. It was a gorgeous evening -- low 80s, low humidity -- and all the side streets were so quiet you could already hear crickets chirping
But tomorrow's my big training day: 8 mile group run in the morning and TWO pub runs tomorrow night!! Doing 3 miles with each group, then 1 beer with each after11 -

@MNLittleFinn I think your previously mentioned trail excursion will put you ahead of me. I'm doubling down tomorrow, resting Friday, and doing a total of 24-26 this weekend. You can kick my butt easily!1

So, this afternoon I got up from my desk at work and developed a sharp pain in the outside of my hip. It has not gone away. From my run this morning? It didn't hurt at the time..... damn it! Any advise from running hip injury people? Will I live?0

I'm just being kind of silly. I remember when I would see your mileage and always be in awe.... Can't believe I've gotten to the point where I'll be running similar mileage to you and the other big dogs.4 -
Oh no @amymoreorless! I am no expert but does it feel like a muscle issue or more in the bone/joint? If it is muscle maybe try some gentle stretching or foam rolling and see if that helps?
@_nikkiwolf_ - that boar looks mean! I know they have something similar in Arizona called a javelina that can be pretty bold and scary (the babies are adorable though).

I'm overly ambitious is all. I need to get through October, then my mileage is going to go WAY down for a couple months.0
