    @skippygirlsmom - Happy Birthday!

@PastorVincent - You are definitely a real runner even if you only use 1 pair of shoes

To add to the shoe debate I have 2 pairs that I rotate between but I just started doing that when I began half training. I do have a third pair new in their box but I am waiting until my current ones get a little more up there in miles before adding them into the rotation.

8/1 - 6 mile hot lunch run/2 mile dreadmill run before lifting
    8/2 - 11 mile run w/RRR track workout: 1600/1200/800/400/400m ladder w/800/600/400/200/200m recovery jogs
    8/3 - 4 mile slow recovery run
    8/4 - 9 mile LT tempo run: miles 5-8 @ ~LTHR
    8/5 - 4 mile slow recovery run
8/6 - 16 mile long run - another distance PR!
8/7 - wonderful rainy REST day!
    8/8 - 8 mile general aerobic run
    8/9 - 9.5 mile run w/RRR track workout: 2x2400m (times - 12:02 & 11:42)

    August Total: 69.5/225
979.1 miles/2,017 miles - goal for the year

Last night was RRR summer track workout, and I needed 9 miles. So I ran about 4.3 miles before hitting the group at the track and starting the workout. Last night was long intervals, which I think I kinda like. It was 2x2400m with 800m recovery jog in between the two. They said to push slightly faster than current 5k pace. I couldn't remember what that was exactly, lol (just looked it up, it was 7:46 avg in last month's 5k), but I knew I didn't want to kill myself, since I'd already run almost 4.5 miles and still needed to get myself home. Ended up keeping the first interval at around 7:55ish I think, according to my watch, and the second interval around 7:45-7:50ish. My times were somewhere around 12:02min for the 1st interval and 11:42min for the 2nd. The really good news though is my HR info. For both of those intervals I was actually in Zone 3 the whole time, basically hitting around what I think my LT HR is towards the end of each interval. And again, this is after having already run a chunk of miles. This means that I think my pace is still improving, as my 5k pace should be faster based on last night's data. So that's exciting.

In other news, provided the rest of my week goes to plan, after the first 0.4 of a mile on Sunday's run I will have hit 1,000 miles for the year so far! I did the math, and if I can get ALL of my planned mileage in between now and my marathon on November 19th (fat chance, I know, but one can dream!) I will need 153 miles from then until the end of the year to get 2,017 miles in 2017. We'll see how it goes, but hopefully I make it!

@Dcorrick ugh, BT headphones. I'm still not convinced they're worth it at this point. I've been through two pairs so far, where the battery just ended up going kaput and stopped holding a charge, after about a month. I have a new pair, in a different brand, currently still sitting at home in their box. One of these days I'll break them out, charge them up, and give them a chance, lol.
    [/quote]

The headphones aren't just for the music. I use Spotify's "running" feature to give me a playlist at a certain beats per minute (right now, 165; thinking I'll move up) to maintain my pace. Also MapMyRun gives me updates on the intervals, etc. I have a pair for the gym bag and a pair for running, and have been fairly lucky so far.

That being said, I'm not sure I could do miles without some music in my head. It drowns out most of the OTHER things that usually populate my head. And I tried wired ones: failing while flailing.

    August Goal: 60 miles

    8/1: 4 miles
    8/2: 3.1 miles
    8/3: 2.2 miles
    8/5: kr30dc day 1
    8/6: 5.4 miles; kr30dc day 2
    8/7: 3.1 miles; kr30dc day 3
    8/8: 2.7 miles; kr30dc day 4
    8/9: 3.1 miles; kr30dc day 5
    8/10: kr30dc day 6

    23.6/60 miles completed

I was too tired to post last night so I'm posting this morning. I did the kr30dc today too. Mondays through Fridays I do yoga in the morning and that is when I've been doing the kr30dc. I may switch that next week and do it later after my runs. I won't be able to do it if I do a lunch run though so who knows.

My run last night ended up being pretty good. It started out kind of sucky. It was still too hot and I've been stressed about some other stuff lately and I was just not feeling it when I started. But as the run went on I got more into the zone and I was really glad I did it. Today will definitely be a rest day. I've been trying to decide which days I want to run. Right now I am on a 4 days per week run schedule. I do my "long" runs on Sunday and then either run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I kind of have been playing it by ear and just watching the weather or if I have too many things scheduled and deciding that way which days I'll run. It was hot yesterday, but we are supposed to hit 100 for the next few days plus I have to go with my husband this afternoon for a doctor appointment and I could end up missing today so I ran yesterday instead of today. I guess it doesn't really matter which days I run. But I kind of don't like having 3 non-running days in a row. Who ever thought I would be whining because I don't get to run every day? I am really trying to learn to be more flexible with my schedule, but honestly that annoys me.

@hanlonsk Sorry about your injury, but your PT story was pretty funny.

@zdyb23456 Congrats on the HM PR.

@amymoreorless Hip pain sucks. I hope you feel better soon.

    @skippygirlsmom Happy Birthday!

@seanevan10 I never know quite what to do about shoes. Right now I just have 1 pair at a time that I run in. I know I should go to a running store and get fitted, but I live out in the boonies and I don't even know where the closest running store is. I imagine there are some in Ft. Worth, but that is 95 miles away. And there could be a running store in Abilene, but still that is 60 miles away. I usually order shoes online. The only store that sells shoes here is Wal-Mart, and aside from house shoes or the occasional flip-flops for the lake, I don't buy shoes there.

@Irontri7 Canbor makes a great set for less than $40 and their customer service is fantastic.

The pair I have now are these from Senso, which look very similar to those.

FWIW, the Senso ones I have now are pretty great sound-wise. I'd recommend them to anyone, they just don't work for me and my misshapen ears.

Those are the ones I was going to recommend, so I got nothin'. My standard is "cheap on Amazon," and these met that standard. I wear glasses, and don't have an issue, and I've found that they twist to fit into my ears. The problem I had this morning was with my other pair, which has always been less good at getting/staying paired.

I'm in for 80. I have my first 5K ever on Labor Day and my goal is to complete it in less than 29 minutes.

    8/1: 3.5
    8/3: 3.5
    8/4: 2.7
    8/5: 6.1
    8/7: 2.7
    8/8: 3.5
    8/9: 4.3

welcome. You've got some great consistency going there.

Thanks. Another 4.3 in the can this morning. 30 miles down, 50 to go! Right on track so far.

Rest day tomorrow before long run Saturday and another rest day on Sunday. I think I've been fighting a very minor case of plantar fasciitis (from moving heavy objects while wearing flip flops, of all things!) and I'm very much looking forward to giving it a rest.

I've decided to run a 'trial' 5k on my 8/23 run to get an idea of my pacing for the Labor Day 5k. Since it's pretty low risk, I'm going to see if I can test how aggressive I can be on race day. I'm planning to try and run mile 1 at 9:00, drop back to 9:15 for the next 1.7 miles, and give it whatever I have left in the tank for the last 800m. These numbers are a bit extreme for me as I run easy at 10'40" and threshold in the mid-9's (over 3.5 miles). We'll see what happens but I'm definitely going to ease off if needed to avoid injury so close to the race date.

I'm madly busy getting ready for a weekend away or I'd succumb to my OCD and enter the cm/in conversions for everyone that hasn't done it that's been bugging me.

One of us was bound to do it!

Ha! @orphia and @Elise4270! I keep going in when I have a minute and aligning the numbers so they all have the same decimal places and spacing! I finally had to close it and just not look at it :)

@_nikkiwolf_ yeah for a “brilliant” run!! Nice piggy!

@seanevan10 that’s just wrong – good reason he’s an ex. Happy early birthday! Go August!

@amymoreorless any time my hip hurts it has to do with weak hip flexors. I do exercises to make them feel better and that usually works. I’m forever doing clamshells.

@hanlonsk I hate that, feel better soon.

@pastorvincent my company says no way to the google docs and I don’t have a laptop at home so I can’t add my pretty picture to the spreadsheet

@kristinegift those darn bowels. BTW how is the job?

@cburke8909 wow that is so beautiful

    @zdyb23456 super job!

Thanks @girlinahat I can’t believe I’m that first age either ha ha

Great job @mobycarp your medal looks more like a challenge coin and considering the race I would say that is what it is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenge_coin

Thanks for the much appreciated Birthday wishes!

@MobyCarp congrats on another great race, hope the niggles go away. Played some soccer with both boys today. I may get to be the assistant coach for his team this fall. Going to need cleats to protect my feet.

srsly? and you call yourself a runner?

I always thought the equation for how many running shoes you should have was the same as the rule for bikes - n+1 where n=the number currently owned.

No I do not, but others like @MobyCarp insist that I am

so how many of you change out shoes for your runs? When did you start that? Early on? or when you were running many more miles?

I'm sorry to say that I have more workout and running shoes than I have cute shoes. Sigh. Then again, I've always had different shoes for different jobs.

    BLUE TOOTH HEADSETS

I have spent $1000s on them now. I have tried sets from $10 up to almost $200 a pair. I plan to do a youtube round up of them, but SO FAR to date, the ONLY set that still currently works for me are the Plantronics Backbeat ( http://amzn.to/2vq365G ). I have tried JayBird, JLabs, and many others. They all failed in one respect or another.

So far the Plantronics have stayed in my ears and survived over a month of hard use. That is a flippen record for me. Not joking.

I have the Jaybird X3s. They're decent but I'm not sure they're anything special (though I love the fact that they are totally sweat resistant). I'll get the Backbeats once I'm ready for a new pair - I like the open ear design better. Not only for awareness on the roads but also because they fit my awkward ears better than bud style headphones do.
