Chris in Salt Lake: Welcome to a great group. I hope you'll become a regular participant. Regarding self-sabotage, let the past be the past and don't dwell on it unless you discover what the trigger was that tripped you up. Let each new day become a success. Count your calories and move more. "Every day is a new day with no mistakes in it yet." Anne of Green Gables
Michele: I don't accept friend requests from anyone other than the ladies I've met here. I think there are people who troll, and I'm not interested in Trolls. :noway:
Gloria: The sun is bright orange here this morning and the air looks like brown fog. It is actually full of smoke. This seems to be the year of fires in the western half of N America.
(((Kelly))): Exhaustion is not good for anyone. It sounds like you're on the brink if not over the line. I hope you'll be able to ease back on the workload enough to get some needed rest. Can your DH take a turn at cooking now and then?
Lisa: Everyone has their own circadian rhythm. I'm a person who needs sleep. My best sex time is mid-morning after a good night's sleep & coffee. DH likes early morning when I'm still trying to sleep. I'm not very pleasant if I'm too tired, unfortunately.
Barbie: I hope your walk is good. Our air is brown with smoke and outdoor exercise doesn't seem like a great idea right now. This particular huge and hideous fire was started by 2 boys playing with fire in the tinder-dry woods. They started the fire in Oregon, but it his now burning on both sides of the river.
Mary: I see that your rig got an ouchie at the gas station. I hope it is easily repaired. . :flowerforyou:
Cheri: We have dear friends in Florida, too. They live in The Villages, which is pretty much in the middle. They've been fortunate in past storms. I hope this will be true for them again.
Peach: Sending prayers for your son that he is not led into unhealthy addictions. :flowerforyou:
Regarding Instant Pot: We are VERY tempted. We've used a slow cooker for years, but replaced our original after it gave us and our guests all food poisoning.
Have a safe day.

I listen to NPR on my way to work every morning, and this morning, just as I was pulling into campus, they were talking about the fires on the gorge. It just got to me. I sat in my car and cried for a few minutes. Starting again right now. I know it will all recover, but I am so incredibly sad. And the ash. So much ash everywhere. My lunch hiking partner and I have suspended our lunch hikes until the air clears.

So, on a happier note. I "lost" 1.5 pounds in the last week. I know I didn't really lose that much fat/weight in one week, but it is about time that I started to show some real losses on the scale, after half a pound a week for the last forever. I felt like celebrating this morning and was tempted to order a vente latte, but I thought better of it, and got a vente americano with cream instead. That saves me about 100 calories!
The kiddos started back to school today. They were both pretty excited.
Yesterday was a non-running day, so I did a very easy 30 minutes on the stationary rowing machine and then . . . wait for it . . . did strength training in the weight room for 20-30 minutes! It wasn't so bad. I rewarded myself with a mini 5 minute yoga workout at the end. Working on my balance.
Much love to all.

The damage was just the outside skin so it should be an easy fix! I was not driving I swear! I did ask my DH to practice before we left but I don't know he's like any of your DH's... but now he wishes he would have!3

Mary - so glad you've arrived (sort of) safely.
Dana - Lovely photo of the grandchildren.
Made a fab curry with the left over guinea fowl and DH has some pieces to put in his cricket rolls tomorrow. I then chucked the remains in the IP with some veg and made stock. I have no room in either of my freezers, so we will have to eat soup soon.
My friend is coming for lunch tomorrow and everything is prepared. That's the way I like it. The house is clean as the cleaner came today. So, all I've got to do is lay the table and cut up salad. And remember to get stuff out of the freezer before I go to bed.
Starters - Homemade hummus and smoky eggplant dip. (Babaganoush) Wraps.
Main - Greek meatballs, tzatsiki, salad. Bought grilled artichokes. Sun blushed tomatoes. Garlic and rosemary focaccia.
Dessert - Homemade plum icecream with plum puree.
I will have very little bread, if any and just a spoonful of dips. I will have a teaspoon of my friend's ice cream. That probably means it will be soup for dinner, if DH doesn't mind, with left overs.
I have a bottle of Chilean Chardonnay in the fridge for my friend. I will have one small glass. (One and a half units)
Before she arrives I will do my usual exercises and wash my hair. I will wear the same clothes I wore to the bbq last Friday - dark blue summer pants and a long sleeved white tee shirt. Silver Indian jewellery. I love getting my face on and looking nice. I have been looking a miserable, coughing mess this week - (one day I stayed in my pyjamas) I let my hair get greasy. :noway: It will feel like a new start. But I am still coughing.
Like all of you I am watching the news on the hurricane.
Carol - I am so sorry to hear of your son's problems. Unfortunately we can't do it for them. I still worry about my elder son.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Felicia, Congrats on the strength training and weight loss. I did it yesterday for the first time. I a bought a book of exercises and started with the routine called "Getting your body back". Sounded about right o me. Taking it easy to start off as I'm new to exercising. Hopefully if I keep doing it I'll get in the routine. Sorry to hear about the fires. I would be upset too. ((HUGS))
Terry in VT4 -
Thank you ladies for your kind words and thoughtful advice. All is well today. I am working out my anxiety and restlessness with some much needed cleaning. Been letting some things go way too long. Another confession - I'm up 7 pounds over the summer. So back at it. Today does seem like a changing point.

Terry wrote: Michele, I suggest when you go to the shower you bring along a talisman in your pocket. It can be anything. I use them to help me focus on what is important. I don't use it as a mystical item. (A talisman is an object which is believed to contain certain magical properties which would provide good luck for the possessor and possibly offer protection from evil or harm.)
I like carrying or wearing a visual reminder that I am not alone and my family surrounds me. When I did my exams to earn my university degree (at 48 yrs old) I wore earrings that my sister and I share (we mail them to each other at Christmas time as we bought them together at the Montana State Fair years ago!) and a ring my Auntie gave me, and a necklace my mother gave me. I felt surrounded by their love and encouragement while in the stressful test environment. While I know these items are not alive and have no special powers, they reminded me of LOVE which is alive and does have amazing power! So Michele, is there anything you can take to the shower to remind you to show LOVE to everyone, even the unlovable?
Felicia- well done on doing a weights workout and also dropping some weight. I was so nervous the first time I went into the MALE DOMINATED weights room. We have two large rooms at my gym, one has the weights in it, the other has treadmills, bikes, rowing machines and step machines. I stayed in the "girls" part of the gym for ages until finally the gym owner set up a weights programme for me and took me and my daughter around to various machines and showed us the proper form and gave us a written list to check off and write down how heavy and how many times to do it. Now I have been working out for a year and three months and I don't need anyone to hold my hand, I don't need a paper to check off, I know how the machines work and I am not intimidated by the Big Guns that I work out with. LOL. I actually LOVE all the testosterone hormones floating around in that room and the guys have a nickname for me: they call me Wonder Woman, because of my workout t-shirt featuring WW. LOL. I have grown in confidence by lifting weights and facing my fears! (Big fear-old woman gets laughed out of gym)
Machka, you have been through a lot of Stress! Good on you for staying so active and quite understand if you're not in the mood! Staying alive and healthy is our number one priority, which is why I study diet, longevity, herbs, alternative treatments (acupuncture, Tesla light therapy, grounding) prayer, hormones and human growth hormones. So much to learn about running our bodies, the fuel our bodies run best on, the changes they go through, things that break it down and stress it...I am going to list my top ten books on here one day, but I am always reading and learning more. Just finished Dr. Mercola's latest book Fat For Fuel. It explained the science of low carb and carb cycling. Fascinating. Has inspired me to try low carb again.
After my run yesterday, and a touch of tummy bug, I weighed in at 126.4 this morning. YAYE! I am very close to my first goal which is to weigh no more than 125lbs. I still want to be closer to 120 but good things take time. I am very tempted to fast today, so that tomorrow I will look upon the magic number on the scales. I will see how strong my will power and hormone drives are today... PS, I always wear a two piece mainly because one pieces are so darned hard to get into. LOL

Chris is Utah, in my experience in my own life, self sabatage is from lack of confidence in myself. I know I have lost befor and gained it all and more back so what makes this time any different. Good luck. You are in the right place for support on this and many other subjects! We don't usually talk about sex but I think that single comfortable with each other here.
I have my annual neurologist appointment soon. They called me yesterday and said she would not be in the office next week when appointment is scheduled. So we rescheduled it for Friday. Then they called this morning and said she won't be in the office Friday! Make up your mind lady. So it is rescheduled for tomorrow. My sister's birthday is today and we usually get together and have lunch. But with my diet right now, it needs to be postponed for a week. So we are going to goshopping tomorrow. She has a long list of places she wants to shop at so we will use her van so she can have her mobility scooter. She can be a handful at times but she is my only sister and I love her. She is very opinionated and doesn't see it at all. Also rather a 'know it all' when it comes to medical problems and child care. But I love her and love our time together.

Oh, Gloria in WA, you are so right. I'd like for my son to have more friends but I am difficult and very watchful after his 1 year in public school. When I taught, I just hoped the students would have a pencil.
Chris in SLC Hello! Here are some things I do-maybe they would help you. I drink before eating---you know, Crystal Light or zero calorie water things. Clear your kitchen of the bad things-Doritoes and chocolate call my name. If you have foods you just love, eat crumbs or use a tiny spoon and stop eating as soon as you have the taste. AND THEN start over ASAP-the next meal or day.5 -
Lisa no possibility of me ever being an alcoholic there were too many of them in my family. I can have an open bottle of wine in my fridge for months - I don't drink it for effect but taste with a meal. When I have a couple of drinks at a family gathering my daughters think I am hilarious I've been known to throw popcorn at people.
No ash on the cars today but still smike blotting out the sun. Extremely humid yesterday and today - my most
unfavorite weather. I would never last where it is humid all the time.
Lovely, lovely peace and quiet. I will savor it until 3:45.
Think I'll run to the Y and get a workout in.
I forgot to take pictures on Saturday but had a wonderful day with my family and the weather was absolutely glorious!

Bummer! Are you doing keto? Just wondering because of your name...0 -
To all those of you dealing with smoke from fires, I feel for you! My parents, brother and family and sister and family all live in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana and they have had a huge fire sweeping down on them for days and days. I've visited during a fire and it made me so ill to breathe smoky air. I just coughed and had bad sinus and runny eyes. Horrible! And for those of you in flooding, I have one brother in Texas and he has been sending me videos and updates on the flooding. I feel for those poor people too. Counting my blessings here in NZ even though it is raining and cold at the moment... Wendy3

Terry--Those are very pretty earrings.
Janet--Beautiful and very Christmas like.
Toni--Hugs
Lenora--I am so sorry about the baby. I understand how hard this can be as I lost our baby and never was able to have another one. So the children we have our 1 mine and 5 his. We have been married long enough and they were young enough that we call them ours. But I know that empty feeling from not having one of our own. Sending prayers and hugs for all of you.
Dana--Beautiful grandchildren.
Mary--Happy you made it and that pole looks like it jumped out in front of you.
Been working a lot this week and looks like most of next week some extra shifts. We are a 24\7dept and since I am supervisor when someone calls in I have to step up and one of my people is in the hospital for her back. Gotta love it everytime I think the overtime is going to go down something happens.
Spending prayers for all those in the storms and fires. So many things going on. Take care.
Blessings, Vicki Grand Island, NE4 -
Wendy Not doing keto any more, but I do keep net daily carb intake between 60g and 100g, mostly from nonstarchy vegetables, berries, and dairy. I don't eat many grains/cereals/starchy veggies/pasta/bread/etc any more. When I do, it gives me heartburn. Mary does keto. Several of us here are low carbers, but not keto.

Mary glad you made it safely.0

So far pretty good on my meager goals for the week and I am feeling good about it. I just wanted to share this fabulous treat I just found- yasso greek yogurt bars. 80 calories. Delicious creamy chocolate. I can't believe it. I am working hard this week and am going to log in with my hopefully new weight on Sunday! Lady Di0

Just catching up. You ladies are fast and furious with your posts.
Update: PR is starting to get Irma. MIL has been out of power since noon and the worst hasn't hit yet. With hurricanes and fires I thought for something different I'd show you winter in VT last year. Hahahaha.
Chris: I can relate to sabotaging yourself. For me I believed that who I was was a fat person so when I started to lose I felt I was losing who I was. Crazy huh? I still struggle but because I've started to replace that self talk with something different, I'm starting to have a different belief about myself. I took what I learned when my husband left and I had to replace those taps running in my head of my ex's terrible words about me into positive words about me. It was very hard but it can be done. Hope you find what works for you.
To those dealing with the fires. Please take care as breathing that smoke isn't good for your health.
Terry (in VT watching the storm)

Ladies - I want to thank all of you for your kind words. I'm still subject to crying spells when I think about 'how happy they were when she got a positive pregnancy test; only to have it shot down when they did not find a heartbeat'. I wrote her an email; hopefully, that was the right thing to do. I just don't know what or how my DYS will take this. I'm guessing he spent today with her; but, he might have gone out to the lake to be alone so he could possibly 'cry' without her seeing him doing so. That would be the way he'd probably handle it. He is so 'private' and doesn't want anyone to 'know their business'. They had told maybe a handful of their friends and his bosses. It has been a long and grueling process. They have both gone through extensive genetic testing. Her fallopian tubes are almost totally blocked and the possibility of having a baby naturally are close to nil. I'm sure that before she could start back in it, her HCG levels will have to get back to Zero. She had told me, that she would do it all over again, maybe; but, the cost is way on up there. They are also getting to the age that a lot of 'specialists' don't consider them as 'good candidates'. I just hope that this does not affect their marriage. Will is so crazy 'in love with her' and I think he was a might bit 'insulted' after losing the last one and telling him she wasn't the kind of wife she should be (to be able to procreate like the Bible says). I'm not sure how well DYS will handle the 'crying' and 'depression' that I am sure will probably come along this time - since it was her last egg they had gathered.
I wasn't thinking when I asked if they 'were going to try IVF again'. Hope he doesn't think I was being selfish or insensitive. I did not mean it to sound that way. I don't understand what all she had to go through but she showed me all the shots she had to take to create extra eggs and the shot she was taking to try to keep her from miscarrying. DYS would give it to her in her butt and it made huge knots. The ones before, she had to give them to herself 5x a day. This time they went in an 'scratched' the inside of her uterus so that it would have a better chance to implant to it. She said that was the worst thing she had ever been through. The nurses told her that she did very well, unlike most women, she did not scream, cry, or curse. I'll only talk about it with you; I can't bear to think of the right words to say to either of them. They had made pictures of the start of the procedure through the implant. The OB had given them so much hope that it looked good. She could point out the head and the body on the picture of the fertilized egg.
Sorry, I can't see and my nose is running.
Michele - I hope that all goes well for you, Jess, and Denise and that Maria will get a bad case of laryngitis.
Lenora4 -

Lenora Sad to hear of the loss of your unborn grandbaby. Thinking of you and your family.
Mary Boo about running out of gas and then the boo boo on your rig from the pump guards. Hrmph! Glad you made it safely there.
Irma Hope everyone in her path comes through safely. The TV footage is astounding already.
Beth This is the Instant Pot Duo 6 qt 7-in-1 that I have. I am making yogurt in it right now. I love my Instant Pot. I have an extra liner (I got the ceramic one) and a few other pots and gadgets that fit inside it for steaming, pot-in-pot dishes, eggs, cheesecake.
Toni (((Hugs)))
Kelly My old friend, now over 90, used to say "this one's on the house" when she didn't want to be intimate with her husband. I love her sense of humor. They have had a 70 year love affair and are an inspiration to all that know them. I am sure she "just said no" sometimes, too. I'd say jump his bones in the morning so he'll let you go to sleep at night.
Terry and Janet Talented ladies! I love the ornaments and the jewelry.
Chris I can gain 5 lbs in a week, too. My sympathies.
Dana Those grandkids are so stinkin' cute!
Gloria So glad for you school has started and you get some golden silence.
Karen in Virginia, whose 11 year old grandson says the first 2 days of school were "horrid"

Swam a mile and did kick sets. Took "pool-ates" class. Walked to gym (1.4 miles). Must admit weather was beautiful tho, walking is again an exercise possibility.
Some family drama with BiL and niece, and as often happens I just want to wring BiL's neck. MiL feels obligated, and she will inevitably need my help ... and BiL manages to shift responsibilities. I love my niece, but because I have no children of my own, BiL has always acted like I should be at his beck and call when he's 'busy'. My niece is pretty seriously disabled, so 'helping out' is always a major commitment in time, energy and spirit.
And she now lives 3 hours away, so what he's really asking is that I spend a weekend most every month to go down and help her. ( so, I'll have to go with MiL on her month to help, then go with DH on his month to help, and then do my own month). I noticed he mentioned he "just went" so maybe we could arrange monthly visits from each of us but doesn't mention when he or his ex wife will be going again to help. I had been planning on my own to make one trip out there with DH this fall (niece just moved out on her own and started college) but am angered by this. He knows DH won't go without me, he knows MiL will ask me to go with her on her turn and he knows I can't drive so how I'm supposed to get there... argh. I get along so well with MiL, SiL & her husband and daughters so I count myself lucky. But BiL infuriates me.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Laters, be well!
