What nobody tells you about losing weight

I find this rather ironic. I was looking at my goals for this year, and my financial ones are the only ones I am on track to achieve by the end of the year. I obviously need to spend more time at the gym, and less time on my excel spreadsheet!12 -

I do believe it is true that I am much colder now! I have to bundle up a lot more.7

Last night I was doing some house chores. We have a Dyson upright vacuum, and I'd just emptied the canister and left it in the kitchen while I went downstairs to switch out laundry. When I came back up, I had a bundle of sheets in one hand and rather than trying to bend over the bundle in my arms to pick up the canister, I basically did a walking lunge to pick it up and carry everything upstairs. No one told me I'd be integrating basic workout moves into my basic housework!36

My employer's health and wellness program is called "Fit for Life". This is wbat they're talking about4 -
- I'm freezing, like all the time
- If you have to dress professional like I do everyday, maintaining pants that fit can be a challenge lol
- Saying 'No' to peer pressure is harder than saying 'No' to food
- My husband, "I can feel your ribs", was the best compliment I think he's ever given me LOL I'm starting to see my bone structure in my face, collar bone, and my shoulders aren't as rounded. I forgot what I could look like, ha
- The more weight I lose the more I'm starting to feel like myself. This made me realize how much power my insecurity had on my life which is just not okay. I'm way more outgoing, a better person to my friends and fam, I take more risks at work, try new restaurants/movies/events, and pursuing new skills like web development.33 -

Stored body fat metabolizes into carbon dioxide and - wait for it - water!
NO WAY!!! Is that what it is?? Ive been wondering this for ages, some nights i have to get up 3 times to pee and its been annoying the hell out of me!9 -

I finally had a couple people at work tell me that I needed to go shopping because my pants were too baggy. (They are friends and they were good about it, so I wasn't offended). I went shopping this weekend and bought new pants (2 sizes down from what I was wearing). It is taking some time to get used to wearing pants that actually fit me23 -
That when your morbidly obese you won't see changes for a very very long time and then all of a sudden BAM you start looking subtly different.
I wear a medical alert bracelet, when I got it I could put one finger under it, now I can fit two.
My legs have shapes that make shaving more challenging.
My wrists look smaller.
Not enough to see in the mirror yet, but enough to notice when I look carefully. And it snuck up on me.48 -
I'm 16kg down, (about 35lb) and I was surprised at my arms, and wrists, so much smaller! I got a fitbit in March, and I went from only just fitting it to being 6 notches in!
What is driving me bonkers is the "you can stop now, you don't want to get too skinny" comments. I actually told someone the other day that was really offensive because I'm only half way to goal, and am still an unhealthy weight. I then reminded her she is comparing me to what I used to look like, not what a healthy weight is. She realised then why it was offensive.44 -
The "advice" you get from others. How they did it last time. What I should change. Unneeded concern. I still have a lot of weight to lose, no I'm not almost done. Conversations I expect to have only with close friends but acquaintances feel perfectly comfortable having.
Not being invisible. This is the uncomfortable one for me. You can kind of float through the world unnoticed when you are heavy. But now I find people talking to me, staring at me. I'm pretty quiet and keep to myself. It's hard.24 -

Yes! I've always had skinny legs, even when I was overweight. It's a trait that runs in my family. But now I can put both hands around the halfway point of my thigh and my fingers will touch! I saw a picture of me the other day and even I was shocked at how skinny they'd gotten. Not that I mind. Lol.8 -

I under the mirror part completely. I have lost 45lbs and 3 inches in my stomach. Even though I'm told by people they can tell, the mirror to me says a different story. Keep up the hard work!3 -

That's my stats as well. I'm an apple, so all my weight in my belly. I've lost three or four inches there, but I can't tell.
I will keep up the work, I want to see normal sizes for the first time in my life. I want to put my diabetes into remission. I want this to be the last time I lose a significant amount of weight.
You keep it up too @bpeterson1234! We can do this! Let's be success stories.

When you realise you can bend over and tie your shoes without holding your breath and nearly passing out.
Being able to shave your legs without feeling like a contortionist.
Being able to sleep once more throughout the entire night without snoring.
Being able to see your collarbone once again.22 -
I have another one, that I realised this morning. I was on the floor playing with my daughter, and when I needed to get up, I just stood up, no rolling onto all fours, finding a chair or table to help me up or anything like that, I just planted my feet and stood up (the kind of crosslegged way? make sense?). I didn't know I could do that till now lol39

I’m not 100% that this is entirely a result of weightloss, but I’ve developed new appreciation for different flavors. I now love to add hot sauce and sriracha to my foods, when before I never liked anything spicy. I also appreciate other foods more now than I did before changing my lifestyle. I’m curious if anyone else has experienced anything like this as an unexpected thing that happened with weightloss .22

I think that might be because you're more actively searching for ways to enliven the now limited amount of food you're eating. I'm actually watching a lot more cooking videos and doing more recipe research than I used to.9 -
This one may seem crazy, especially if you've never been THAT big, but armpits are called arm PITS because they're supposed to have a pit there? I was wondering why I was having such a tough time shaving and getting all of the hair. Huh...it dips in. When did that happen?21

No one tells you that if you're tall and more slender it's REALLY REALLY REALLLY REALLY hard to find clothes that fit. Like, insanely hard. My local stores have stopped carrying tall pants in any regular sizes (4-16) whatsoever. There's a petites section for short women. There's a juniors section for short women. While the womens' section is also for short women, you can make up for some of the lack of length by going up in size. But not so much in the regular department.
I wear a size 6 L now, and I really need that extra length.. but criminy heck is it hard to find.
I didn't look - are you from MN? I've lived around the country but only in MN have I heard "criminy heck".4 -

Me too. Colder and my bed isn't as comfortable. It's great though.
Today I sorted out my wardrobe and every single thing (some stuff is 20 years old!) fit or was way too big. It was a fantastic feeling!15 -

I'm really hoping for that to happen to me! I'm a 46HH UK sizing, because US sizing just didn't go up that big really. It's very hard to find bras that fit right. I'm usually wearing bras that are technically too small in the cups because I break the underwire ones too quickly.
I'd love to have small breasts when I'm done, I could actually buy cute bras.

That I would lose weight near my nose and my glasses would suddenly start falling down more! I'm not even close to goal! I've got to have them adjusted tomorrow so I'm not pushing them up every five minutes.14

You might size into a size that has cute styles. I still wear UK bras because I came to prefer them, and even in FF cups, I can find some pretty bras. I wear either a 30 FF or a 32 F. I started out in a in a 38K.2 -

That's fine too. I know as my band size goes down I'll be more likely to find cute bras. There aren't as many women with my size breasts and ribs as there are smaller sizes, so I get why styles are limited. Still sucks. As does paying $60 for a bra only to have the wire pop out two months later.
I'll also be happy to size down into a point where I can get sports bras. Even if the cups are too small, right now I haven't found *any* sports bras in a 46 band, even online in the plus size sections. I think the highest one seen is a 42 or 44.
I don't need one for support, the most I do is walk right now when my knee lets me, but underwires are just not comfortable all the time and the sweat means I have to wash them more often.
